One Week #2

Fue un miércoles

Rate this book

Am I disappointed? Yes. First half of the book was good it’s the second half that just ruined it for me. It was rushed and the whole suspense as to why both Courtney and Kyle stopped talking was a big disappointment. I was hoping for something more….. than what happened lmao.

Kyle and Courtney in College were cute ngl 🥺

Opposites attract/enemies to friends to lovers/second chance tropey trope candy from Whitney G was just the palate cleanser I needed today.
Slow burn, banter and double-entendre galore between a cocky hero and a hard as nails heroine, On A Wednesday was sweet with spicy bites, some angsty moments, predictable and fast paced—maybe too fast, rushed even, in terms of conflict resolution.

This was a satisfying and entertaining short read, told in dual POV with present and past chapters in pure Whitney G fashion.
I felt a tiny bit disappointed about the conflict that initiated Courtney and Kyle's decision to go separate ways and also the reason for their break-up but I enjoyed the build up of their friendship and their shift from friends to lovers SO MUCH that I just kept on reading, eager to see them reunited and happy.

There is just something about an unrepentant—supposedly— manwhore intent on getting the one thing he's not supposed to have. Kyle's persistence doubled to his legendary swager was too powerful even for career driven Courtney! I LOVED that the author used romance movies as the medium to get them closer. This was such a sweet addition!

All in all, a sweet, sexy and fun romance bite.

In her long awaited “One Week” series, Whitney G. pairs up a the fiercely focused Courtney Johnson and the devilish soon to turn pro long receiver Kyle Stanton for a romance that traverses past and present and scratches any enemies to lovers with witty and sizzling banter itch you might have.

Kyle has made it his mission to enjoy college and all the perks that come with being an elite athlete, especially one who is guaranteed to be a first round draft pick for the NFL. But when he starts his senior year, he realizes that most people want something from him at the same time that he gets the opportunity to spend time with the one woman who wants nothing to do with him.

And when it comes to Courtney, Kyle is all in. The extremes he goes to, to get her to spend time with him and woo her are wacky, adorable and swoony. He’s an endearing, cocky alpha male who never gave up on his one true love. While she tried her best to ignore him or put him in his place, she was truly successful because deep down, she was just as gone for him as he was.

Their story is fast pace. It goes back and forth from present to past, the latter showing us how the met, moved from enemies to friends to lovers.

On a Wednesday is book #2 of the One Week series by Whitney G.. It’s a contemporary romance told from both points of view, with a happy ending. Tropes: enemies to lovers | second chance

On a Wednesday was a lot of fun. I had a blast reading Kyle’s story. I loved getting Kyle and Courtney’s college past, but I felt like the present was really rushed.

3.5 stars. ONCE Again we have a dramatic villain who is the main reason why this couple can't be together. The miscommunication trope is a bit stretched here and it was frustrating. Overall, still entertaining.

A total downer. Guess I’ve moved on from the time in life where I appreciated WG books. Or. It’s not me but the book.

While Whitney’s signature writing with back and forth texting and emailing is fun to read, it isn’t that fun or interesting anymore. It’s wayy too much noise without any music.

The h and H meet in college. The h is an ex-cheerleader and now majoring in journalism. So that’s her promotion from being a college slut to some level of nerd. The H is a popular campus athlete about to be drafted to make his millions.

Years later the h is now engaged to another guy and the H finds out and decides to get his girl back. I lost interest several times and both the MCs hadn’t matured in their years apart. There’s constant bickering when they’re both the same age and she’s a cheerleader to his football player.

My insensitivity and crude trigger was when the h says that her fiancé won’t finish what he’d start so she’d run to the bathroom and grab equipment to get herself off. Uhhhh no.

I don’t care for reading happy fidelity between two characters who’ve literally slept their life away on campus. Totally not safe!!!

Kyle and Courtney met in college, he played football and she was a cheerleader. Kyle is destined to have a promising future in the NFL and is most likely going to be drafted at the end of his last year in college. Courtney has dreams of being a sports journalist and all of her focus is on that goal, especially in her last year of college.

When Courtney is assigned the job of doing a one on one interview with Kyle, she is reluctant at first. Cocky, arrogant footballers who sleep around and lap up all the hype around them are just not her thing. However, she also wants to do well in the task assigned to her. Therefore she agrees to meet up with him on a Wednesday evening for as many as it takes to get her final thesis perfect.

Courtney was not expecting to actually enjoy spending time with Kyle and did not expect to fall in love with him. However, their different career dreams is eventually what pulls them apart. They both move on with their lives and have no contact for a long time. Years later, Courtney is now back in the US and is shocked to bump into Kyle at a private party being thrown for her. All those old feelings from years ago come rushing back to them both and she is second guessing everything about her life as it is now.

Kyle is determined to prove to Courtney that taking a second chance on love with him is worth it. And it begins with meeting up every week on a Wednesday.

This is the second story in the One Week series. It jumps back into the then and now. A fun second chance romance.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Courtney Johnson had her life plan decided well for the next 10 years that is, so when at college she is assigned Kyle Stanton to write her thesis on she is less than impressed, this NFL bound aloof well known player. She has little choice other than to go along with it, she remembers the first day she met him her freshman year when he clean knocked her on her bum. His reputation is legendary and she has no intention to be added to his notches. But as time moves along she sees someone beyond the face he shows to his public and as much as she tries to fight her feelings they are undeniable, however Courtney is due to start her internship in London and he’s about to join the NFL, long distance is the only way to keep them together but after they have a fight and all contact is lost. It’s her 28th birthday and the man she had never ever been able to get over is there to claim his prize but he may be too late, will she give him a chance or will she choose another path away from Kyle?

Kyle Stanton was living every little boys dream as a football star heading for the super leagues. He has a reputation with the ladies and is the campus playboy, girls only want him for one thing and that’s is upcoming status and wealth. Courtney is nothing like the girls he is used to but she hates him after he stood her up during freshman year. It appears that the heavens were looking out for him when Courtney is the one assigned to him for her thesis, what happens next is friendship and a pact that when they both turned 28 he is back to make good on what they agreed all those years ago. Only he may be too late, will he get a second chance with the love of his life or has the love boat already set sail?

Great read, although I’m not a fan of the swapping of time lines I still enjoyed their journey and them finally getting a second chance. This story had me hooked from the first chapter. 4.5 Super stars.

Oh my gosh! I absolutely LOVED this book! It’s got all the things that I adore, fun, flirty characters with sharp banter and sizzling chemistry that I can actually feel throughout the story. But most importantly, it has the greatest type of hero.

Pitt, Penn State set aside hundreds of beds for students who might get COVID-19 | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Kyle is an any woman, anytime and place type of college football star but when he finally gets an “in” with Courtney, he is in one hundred percent. I couldn’t get enough of his methods of trying to persuade her to date him. He’s alpha to the core and I fell in love with his wacky ways and pushy methods immediately.

Courtney was more than capable of handling Kyle and his over inflated ego. She was always quick to put him in his place except she was never quite able to do so. He just rolled right over whatever put down she came back at him with. It made for some hilarious reading.

This had a fast pace, never slowing or bogging down. This couple takes steamy to a whole new level and secondary characters that were fun to revisit back in the day, as well as currently. Overall, a great read that left me smiling.

I wanted to like this book so badly because I loved the first book in this series, but it just did not work for me. The characters had no chemistry and the plot just felt meh. Kyle came off as very immature and I just felt like this book could have been way better. I almost DNF because I got bored halfway through.

Why oh why miss G. Why would you do that me? I generally start with a short summary but I just can't I am so upset right now. I love Whitney G.'s book. I was very excited about it. Yay! Will get to read a cheating free monogamous couple with a HEA. But no. She crushed all my hope. I generally pick Whitney G.'s book blindly but maybe after this I feel like have to be a bit cautious.

As said in blurb, boy meets girl, girl hate the playboy and now when she is not give him any attention he wants her and so does girl because of course he is gorgeous. So they turn from enemy to friends to lover. Now after college they both have different way to go. Four years of long distance and then forever. Atleast that was there plan until they had a stupid fight and then just stopped speaking to each other for like 16 months or so
So far we have this cliched plot and story line and I am more than okay with it. In fact I like them. What happens next that fucks with my mind

I am so sad right now. To me it was not even HFN because if he can just go sleep with OWs, yes multiple, after this petty fight then they are not my forever couple. This was so like Ross cheating on Rachel and keep repeating 'we were on a break'.

***TRIGGER AND SAFETY***
CHEAT: For me, YES (to know why read my above rant)
OM/OW DRAMA: Yes

Anyways this spoiled my mood but if you guys want to give it try, please do and lemme know how you feel about the book in the comment

3.5 stars!

This is the long-awaited second book in the One Week series, following on from On a Tuesday, which I absolutely loved. This is the story of Kyle – the hilarious, manwhoring best friend of Connor (hero from On a Tuesday), and his story is fun, unexpected and sexy with a nice amount of heart.

Like his best friend, Kyle is an NFL superstar, but his personal life is pretty much non-existent, and his relationship with the media and his ‘fans’ is tumultuous at best. His life takes an interesting turn when a random social media comment sparks memories of the girl he fell for in his senior year of college. He and Courtney remained close after graduating, but had a massive falling out a little over a year ago and they haven’t spoken since, leaving a gaping hole in his life. Kyle decides to jump on the opportunity and fly across the country to see her, but ends up gatecrashing what actually turns out to be her engagement party. Awkward! But not all is as it seems, and the chemistry in their brief encounter sets the scene before we travel back in time to where it all began.

As a college student, Kyle is a wildly entertaining hero, with a well deserved reputation as a cocky playboy who never takes anything seriously. But a run-in with devoted student, Courtney, has him all hot and bothered, unable to think of anything except the one girl who seems immune to his charms.

Courtney had a bad experience with Kyle during their freshman year, and she has tried her best to ignore the cocky, manwhoring playboy ever since. But she’s in her senior year of a journalism major when she is tasked with writing about the sports star for her thesis project, and she is horrified.

Kyle is thrilled to have an excuse to spend time with the girl he has been secretly crushing on, so they set up weekly meetings ‘On a Wednesday’, those soon spilling over into the rest of the week as Kyle pretty much inserts himself into Courtney’s life, and the two of them become friends. It’s a fun friendship, full of teasing, and Kyle working hard to drag Courtney out of her shell. And underneath it all is a raging attraction that Courtney does her best to ignore, trying to keep things strictly in the friend zone… until Kyle douses that idea completely.

Friends can handle their friends going out on dates with other people.”
“Then we need to call this little arrangement something else.” He suddenly presses his lips against mine, ending my argument with ease.

Kyle and Courtney are a lot of fun together, with great chemistry. They never really define what they are, they just go along with it, and it’s all very playful and sexy. They both know that their time together is coming to an end - Kyle is headed straight into the NFL after graduation, and Courtney is heading to London to further her studies – but that doesn’t stop feelings from developing, and when they part, they promise to remain friends and come back together when Courtney returns to the US in four years.

During the story of their college years, the story jumps back and forward in time, and it continues to skip forward during their time apart. We get to see glimpses of them struggling with the distance and the changes to their relationship, and we get to see their vicious falling out, leaving them both so angry, and Courtney devastated. And then we’re back to the present, watching a lovesick and determined Kyle fight to win back the only girl he’s ever loved.

“I want you back, and I don’t know any other way to make that clear. And I don’t know why I’ve waited all this time to tell you how I feel.”

It’s a fun read, mostly because of Kyle’s wicked sense of humor and his ‘no fucks given’ attitude when it came to getting Courtney back. Seriously, the man has no shame, and there is nothing he won’t do, which makes him a really entertaining romantic hero. And though Courtney is initially wary, she is understandably powerless to resist the force that is Kyle.

“I’ve never loved anyone else the way I love you,” he said. “Never.”

I love a second-chance-romance, and I was hoping this book would hit me in the feels just as much as its predecessor did, but after all of the build-up, I thought that the part of the story that takes place after their college years all felt a bit rushed. It seemed more like a highlight reel, as we got to see the big moments, without any of the lead-up or resulting fall out. It was more just glimpses into their lives. And while I appreciated that it helped keep the storyline moving, it all happened very quickly, and I would have liked to see a bit more of that time in their story so that the emotion really had time to develop.

But the book ends well, satisfying on all fronts as Kyle and Courtney sort their lives out and find their way back to each other.

3.5 stars.

I absolutely loved On a Tuesday but this one just didn't live up to me.

I wasn’t a fan of the constant flashback. I also think the book spent way to much time in the past and not enough in the present. And I hate saying this but the characters weren’t that interesting too.

Unfortunately, this was a meh read for me.

Fun cute read

This was such a fun read for me. I loved working up to why things fell apart for Kyle & Courtney. The back and forth from past to present worked really well in this story. I also loved getting a glimpse of Grayson again. I LOVE Whitney G's books and this didn't disappoint. Highly recommended.

Definitely didn’t expect to finish reading so quick, but I was hooked from start to finish! This book was an easy light-hearted read that had me smiling throughout with all the banter that I love so much in a Whitney G. book. I loved everything about the chemistry between Kyle and Courtney and enjoyed reading the journey of their budding friendship, falling out and second chance! My heart clenched multiple times and I’ll even admit that I shed some tears while reading, but it was all worth it in the end. I’m excited for what’s next in this series!
