This is book one of the Shifting Mates series and the main character is Aria Harvey, who has just moved to Ayersville to live with her dad, after her mother’s death and has to start her final year of high school in a new town. She is used to the hustle and bustle of a large city, but the town and the countryside are beginning to grow on her, even if her dad has some serious rules and a curfew for her, due to perceived dangers in the surrounding forest at night. She has a few weeks to get used to the town before school starts and meets Aiden, the son of the local Mayor of the town. On her first day of school, she has a run in with a boy called Clyde on her ride to school, and while he seemed interested in her to start, he changed opinions pretty quickly once he knew who her father was! Her father, as far as she knows is a boring accountant, but she will soon find out his secrets as well as many on town towards the end of the book. When she gets to school, Clyde and a girl he is with, Vanessa, shoulder check her and knock her to the floor! She makes friends with a shy girl called Laura and her friend Noah, who helps her out and shows her around to her classes.
Noah wants her help coaching the basketball team after school and she forgets to phone her dad, making him worry where she is. Clyde acts like a total bully and Aiden comes to her defence and a huge scrap starts. She is sent for Laurel and then the nurse and gets to see the aftermath. The nurse, Aurora, has her room decorated somewhat like a hippy, but with lots of natural substances to be used to calm and heal. A bit weird, but it makes sense a bit later on. Aiden takes Aria for a few friendly sorts of dates and on one they visit the local festival and she sees a young boy wander off into the forest and chases after him to keep him safe. This is when she discovers a huge secret most of the town are hiding. There are lycanthropes, or wolf shifters to us common people, and there have been two rival packs fighting for the town, for generations. The Dusk Fall, who are as dark as night with stockier builds and heavy fur covered in ink, and the others who are lithe and nimble, with shorter tufts of fur sticking out. It seems Aria has gotten herself stuck right in the middle of this argument and her father is blamed for the death of the town’s previous leader, even though he tried to save him. His past won’t let the people here forgive or forget what he was.
A wolf shifter tries to attack Aria when she is with others looking for Halloween costumes and at first she thinks it is one of them messing about with a costume. When she is forced to run out the back of the store in fright, it soon gets serious, but she is helped by someone else in wolf form. The way she can stop Aiden and Clyde being at each other’s throats, stopping them in mid step, is apparently a power she unknowingly has. Some of the witches in town, Aurora the school nurse and Laura’s Aunt Dia, who runs the library, know of the destiny she could be fulfilling and it will only bring good for the town, but she is in danger if others find out about her and her in demand powers. The wolf that attacked her has not been identified and she refuses to live in fear. She and her father and friends, set a trap for that person, knowing they can be revealed as a wolf by certain things and use it to their benefit. Her father places himself back into his old role to protect her and keep her safe, but she also has two strong wolves, Clyde and Aiden, to look out for her as well! Some of the blurb events haven’t happened as yet in this first book of the series and I look forward to seeing Aria grow into this new role that destiny has for her and who might be her main love interest. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Who is the Mystery Attacker ? . . .

This story is pretty much just introducing characters and setting the stage for what’s to come, especially since these are high school students.

Clyde is apparently a bully, but he is still attractive to Aria Harvey. Fortunately, she stood up for herself rather than let him push her around. When he comes to her rescue in the woods, does she feel indebted to him? Can he identify the wolf who attacked her and injured her?

Then things get more complicated when another alpha from a rival pack also takes an interest in her. Is he after something special that she can provide?

There is something odd going on. Aria is just learning about the wolves. Her father is a Hunter of supernaturals. But he never told her about witches and werewolves. And Aria has a secret too, which she is not even aware of yet. How will all of this come together? And what is coming soon that will open Aria’s eyes to her new reality? Grab this exciting story and begin the journey into a whole new way of life.

Aria Harvey knew that her life would drastically change when she went to live with her father and she would have to start her senior year at a new high school, but she could have never prepared herself for the secrets she would soon uncover. Then there are two boys that show an interest in her. Clyde just makes her angry, he’s an arrogant bully who seemed nice enough until he found out who her father is and Aiden the mayor’s son who laughs at her jokes and wants to be her friend. Unfortunately, asking too many questions and discovering that werewolves, or lycanthropes as she is informed is preferred, actually do exist could be deadly.
I think the characters in this book are fascinating, well written and that they’re very actions and reactions keep a reader engrossed. Some bullying, violence and unexpected twists in the plot kept me on the edge of my seat. I recommend this book to fans of this genre, and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

This starts ( what I hope to be ), Aria, Clyde and Aiden’s story. Things are not as they seem and Aria’s father has some strange demands of Aria and what she can and cannot do in town and the surrounding forest. Add in 2 hot males either vying for her attention or hateful glances from the other female in their lives and Aria figures out there’s definitely something different about them and the town, and she’s going to figure it out or die trying, literally. Nice slow burn of relationship’s possibilities: duo or trio ? At the end of book one it looks like Duo, you’ll have to read it to see who she ends up with ( for now). Minimal sexual contact ( kisses), lots of fighting and near death experiences. Good start to world building and backstory. 4⭐️‘s

After finishing this book, I am looking forward to read the entire series, as it can only be good if this is the standard.
It is both funny and has a lot of twists, that keeps you captured until the last page.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

poor editing

The book has a great story but so many unnecessary words and lack of proper paragraphs makes it very boring and tiring to read

Aria is relatively new in town. After her mother passed away in the city, she goes to live with her father in a little rural town full of mysteries and secrets. She meets Aiden, the son of the local mayor, and on her way to school, Clyde who does not like Aiden at all. When Clyde learns who her father is, he distances himself from her, to her dismay because, for her, her father is the very best.
What a beginning to a promising series.
This author definitively has the gift to, not only write a great story; She can also, virtually transport the reader to where the action takes place as well as make it so the reader fully experiences the beauty of the area described in the book, the raw emotions displayed and/or felt by the main characters, and the special bond between father and daughter.
This masterfully gripping written tale has adventure, love, action, fights, and many twists and turns that makes it a page-turner deserving a 5 Stars rating. I look forward to reading the sequel.
The only negative point is that the title does not fit as there is no mate and the two alpha-types are not damaged.
