“mmm… even when facing death…”
song yuhang grabbed her hand, deepening the kiss tinted with a romantic blood-red hue.
“so what?” her voice was low and hoarse, muffled amid their intertwined lips and teeth.
“even in death, i want to die with you.”
MARVELOUS. this was essentially an enemies-to-lovers romance between a medical examiner and a police detective. the beginning of their romance (the enemies phase… and tentative allies phase…) actually had me tweaking out, it was so good and so hot. genuinely some of the best tension and flirting i’ve ever read like, wow, that was so good. the two characters were really neat as well - i’m a sucker for the abrasive ice queen trope and it was done well! there was even two found families in this and i really enjoyed all of the character dynamics and even cared for a bunch of the side characters. one grievance i have with a lot of danmei and baihe is that if it's danmei - there's not a lot of well-written female characters or there's just a lot of hate and then, it's the other way for baihe as well. this doesn't have shit like that and it's honestly just realistic... bad and good people all around... well-written characters of all sexes. it also had a really interesting and immersive plot, i’m not usually that big of a fan of reading crime thrillers but, i really liked this one. i got highkey addicted because of the plot and then ended up finishing half of it in one day!
this isn’t a perfect five-stars because, even though their tension was really good, the actual romance was good? but i wasn’t obsessed with it. still really good though! the plot was very solid and really addicting but around the 70% point, there was some um, plot decisions made that i wasn’t that big of a fan of. there was one trope i didn’t enjoy but, it served for killer angst that made tear up, so i guess it served its purpose but? also… to be honest… there wasn’t any smut in this and i didn’t really need any but, the smut that did exist was so random ass with weird metaphors and vague details that it could’ve just been removed… but that’s just a minor detail. the translation was good, but, i feel like it lowkey deteriorated a little at the end... no hate to the translator, i really appreciate that they translated this. BUT.
PLEASE READ THIS. underrated and especially since it’s a baihe - i literally discovered this from a random tiktok and was like damn, this synopsis sounds neat. i will probably be checking out this author’s other works as well! (also, the manhua of this has killer art so mmm….)
