The year is 1814 and Grey St. James has escaped from Napoleon's prison on the rocky isle of Mont St. Michel. Desperate and dangerous, he is a far cry from the rakish nobleman who had broken hearts in Regency London.

In a chateau high above the romantic Loire River, Natalya Beauvisage is writing her second novel. At 26, she is beautiful but hardly marriageable and that suits her, for she plans to devote herself to her career as a novelist. The men in Natalya's books do her bidding but when a dark, threatening stranger appears at the chateau and holds her at knife-point, she discovers a potently attractive real man who is completely beyond her control.

Grey needs to escape from France and Natalya longs to return to America at a time when war made sea passage perilous, so they form an unlikely alliance. Dangerous adventures await them as they journey together, attempting first to elude Napoleon's henchmen and then to travel on to London, where Grey must confront shocking changes in his life.

As they grow closer, Natalya is caught up in a passionate fantasy that surpasses any she could imagine. But Grey's heart is imprisoned by dark secrets, and not until he has delivered her to her Philadelphia home does that mystery begin to unravel...

A regency romance of the first order. It starts out in France, moves to England, and ends in America. First published in 1990 under the title Natalya. It was revised in 2011 and published under the tile Her Dangerous Viscount. It had a pleasant story line and two strong characters in the main roles. A captured English Viscount, who was a Navy Captain, a beautiful American maiden who is living in France with family and this is in 1814. England is at war with France and the United States. The maiden wishes to return to America and the escaped hero wishes to get out of France and back to England. The join forces and escape. But once there circumstances compel the hero to go to America to right a wrong against him. He takes the maiden with him and returns her to her family. After the obligatory sex scenes they end up married. All and all a pleasant read.

I got the book from Amazon thru kindlebuffet.com.

I rated the book at 4 stars and would read other offerings by this writer. This book is part of the Rakes & Rebels series.

The story line goes that Grey escapes from prison in France while the war with Napoleon is going on. Meets Natalya at her uncles house, and while her uncle owes his family a favor, she travels with him to help him escape France back to England. That's about as far as I got in the book. Per my Kindle, I was about 40% through the book when I deleted it. I had extreme problems reading the book to that point even. Trying to believe in my mind that any female would have taken her actions was beyond even my imagination. Plus, once she got to England, he immediately dropped her and left her to her own devices. This after swearing on his life to her uncle that he'd keep her safe and watch over her? I just couldn't keep reading. I've read other books in written by this author and enjoyed them, this one, I just couldn't do it. However, I will continue to try other books written by her.

TSTL heroine, did not finish reading

I went from a very good book about a 27-year-old heroine to this book about a 26-year-old heroine and the differences could not be more dramatic. Natalya is supposed to be a mature, independent woman, but she has all the maturity and independence of a typical 14-year-old ninny. In short, she's too stupid to live. The hero deliberately refrains from informing this ninny that he's married, even though his wife has run off. Sure, it's not a proud admission, but it would be honest. I will say, of the two characters, Grey is the one I'd prefer to meet. Natalya would tempt me to violence. I quit reading at around the 50% mark. Clean editing gives this book points in its favor.

Love and War

Natalya and Grey are thrown together during the tumultuous days of the French Revolution. The air around them sang with tension from the minute they met. Natalya, a budding author of romance novels who knows nothing of love herself and doesn't believe it truly exists fights her attraction to Grey with all that is within her before she even learns that he is already married, albeit to a woman he hates. When they make good their escape from war torn France and arrive in England, he discovers that his wife has disappeared with another man and has also stolen the extensive jewelry collection that has belonged to his family for over 200 years. Hearing that his younger brother was killed fighting Napoleon, he vows to follow his despicable wife to Philadelphia to regain possession of the jewels. Since he has promised to see that Natalya is safely returned to her home in Philadelphia, they sail together on his ship to America. What follows once they arrive in Philadelphia is a delicious tale of love, deceit, disguise, deception, attempted murder, and passion that will not be denied. An altogether thrilling story of history intertwined with fictional characters and the re-appearance of so many of the characters from the previous books in this series.

Historical romance set in France, England and then Philadelphia which makes for a road trip plot mixed with some mystery and death threats.
We find ourselves in France, 1814 and Lord Grey St. James has escaped from prison and torture to his father's French noble friends, the Beauvisage family. Natalya Beauvisage decides to return home to America, but it is near impossible with the wars going on between France, England and America. Lord Grey convinces Natalya that he can get them out of France and make it to America because he has connections and his own boat. There are lots of little adventures along the way but the last part of the romance happens in America with an estranged insane wife, death threats and a disappointing younger brother. Not all family relationships are terrible in this story, after all Natalya's family is close as well as being smart kind folks, its the St.James family that is rubbish awful cold folks.
Epic romance like people used to write before cellphones were invented. Not a fluff story.

What a way to end "The Beauvisage Family" series! It was a delightful read and I really enjoyed Natalya and Grey's story. I liked the fact that Natalya had decided to carve out a life for herself instead of marrying "young" as ladies do in that time period. Of course, in the present time, Natalya is still young at 26 when she does finally marry! LOL. I also love how the Beauvisage men actually loved these independent women.
Note: It is suggested to read the whole Rakes & Rebels series (The Beauvisage and The Raveneau Families) in chronological order because they do intertwine at times. I started out that way but could not continue after the first few books since I became a little lost in trying to keep all the characters and family members in order. I decided to finish the Beauvisage Family first and now will pick up with the Raveneau's where I left off. This is my preference only. The whole series is a joy to read so far and I hope you enjoy it as well.

I was pleasantly surprised. Wright saved the best for last. The heroine, Natalya, and hero, Gray, felt mature, in control of their desires and responses and honest. I guess age makes a difference. One of the best components of the book was the differing antagonists for each setting. In France, they faced one problem, in England they had to resolve another and finally in Philadelphia, they took care of the main foil. Every setting had it's purpose to the story- France was the connection, England was desire and Philadelphia was the love. I especially enjoyed the lack of famous characters making an appearance and silliness of trying to place fake characters in real historical plots. Instead, the war of 1812 served as backdrop to a sweet love story. Overall, great read and touching closing to the Beauvisage family's story

***3.5 stars, rounded up to 4***
It took some time for me to get into this book. The pacing was a bit slow initially but once we got the ball rolling the story came together beautifully. I enjoyed both Grey and Talya learning that love doesn’t have to result in you losing yourself but with the right person it adds to your life. The ending was a little muddled with the scheming and conspiring by a certain character but it was quickly resolved so that was good. I do wish we saw more of our main characters together in their relationship. They, especially Natalya, spent so much time “disliking” each other’s, it felt like we didn’t get enough time to see them happy and in love.
Overall a fairly good book, loved our FMC! She was strong, witty, funny and willing to admit when she was wrong. Grey was also delightful.

I mostly listened to this book on Audible, however did read some also. I enjoyed the narration, so that may have added to my enjoyment of of this book.
While I have read this entire series this summer, for the first time, I must say that this is one of my favorite of the series. I enjoyed the story and all of the characters— especially the reappearance and tying together of so many of the previous characters and places! I was happy to see the series make its way back to America also!
I’m off to begin the next book!

HER DANGEROUS VISCOUNT; (Rakes and Rebels) is another terrific read ! I listened to this on Audible as I worked on art pieces. The beauty of this series is the depth of love between the protagonists. Natalia and Grey are perfect for each other. Their story has an unusual twist that carries through the tale. Due to the twist being kept from our heroine I deducted one star, I think it should have been revealed prior.

The adventures were more dangerous than the Viscount

I am sure the escape from France to England would have been more dangerous than it was portrayed but it was a good story showing other parts of the world. Life in America must have been a little easier for the young ladies with less restrictions.

Great historical love story

I loved this story, I love the way you put the characters together. I have known women who married for money and greed. My brothers first wife married about 20 men during the Korean War. We had a horse and she sold it too. Of course she committed adultry as my brother never divorced her for about 10 years.

plunging head first…

Natalya has written a book. She is twenty-six and considered a spinster. She has been in France for six years, not by choice but as a result of Napoleon’s war. She wants to go home to America. When a chance presents itself she plunges forward taking the opportunity.

Interesting

I liked this romance novel. It wasn't as predictable as most. The main characters were exciting and fun to get to know. There were some surprises which I thought made a good story. One thing I didn't like was that all of the women were exceptionally beautiful, which is not very realistic.

I’m tired.

I’m tired of books making every single woman an attitude of a modern women, especially a series of books. I’m tired of books set in the turn of the nineteenth century having all their characters use first names. Also, she mentions that Jane Austen authored her books, which wasn’t published until several years after this.

Marvelous. A splendid culmination of loving family members

I enjoyed this book so much. I have all the others Ms Wright has written, & it doesn't disappoint in the least. To have so many characters' lives remembered from previous books was such a treat. I look forward to more. Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Ms Alvie Hoffmann

Wonderful love story

I loved that I could not wait to continue reading this book. The character development was incremental so there was always something new to learn about the characters almost up to the last page.

Outspoken

This book was quite enjoyable to read and read from one adventure to another for every chapter, it seems. As a celebrated female author, she was on the mark with her comments. Poor man never stood a chance.
