He's the new sheriff. She's back for family business. Will they get the chance to see if the spark is real or will a ruthless killer get to them first?
Royce King, Ex-Military Police, auto shop owner, and newly appointed Sheriff of Rexville, has a serious problem, he doesn't want the job.
Make that two problems.
ATF agent Briar Nilson returns to Rexville to take care of her father's estate only to discover his death wasn't accidental. Briar's not letting someone in her hometown get away with murder.
Royce has no intention of allowing the sexy ATF agent to run roughshod over his town.
Briar remembers Royce. The older boy who gave her the nickname she hated and the object of her inconvenient secret crush.
But she's going to need his cooperation if she's going to track down her father's killer.
It's a battle of wills they're both determined to win--as long as someone else doesn't kill them first.
I love a good romantic suspense book with a kick@** heroine. After the death of her father, ATF Agent Briar returns to her sllepy hometown of Rexville. Together with Royce, the newly appointed sheriff, they are quickly embroiled in a mystery involving an outlaw MC. With bullets flying, the action is non stop and Royce's admiration of Briar's capability was refreshing. The beginning of the book was a little confusing with the immediate introduction to various characters. However, once settled in, I fell in love with Briar, Royce, his family and fellow members of King Security. The spots of humor was an added bonus.
I enjoyed this story. It started off with a heck of a hook, and just got better as the story went on. I really enjoyed this book, and will be keeping an eye out for the next one in the series as well as other books by Pepper Bordeaux.
5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.
4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.
3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.
2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.
1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

This is book one in The Kings of Rexville, Secret's and lies Series and it is Royce and Briar's story and omg it is definitely a must read. Royce is retired from the U.S. Army and back in his hometown and opening a security business with his brother and close friend's who he trusted only to get a call from his sister saying that he has been appointed as the new sheriff which is something that he didn't apply for and definitely doesn't want as he has enough on his plate at.the moment. Briar is a ATF agent it at the moment she is on her way to Rexville to find out when and how her father died and why she wasn't informed. Royce and Briar knew each other from year's ago and also used to have a crush on each other and as they work together to find out what is going on in Rexville the chemistry between them starts to become stronger but danger is just around the corner watching and waiting to strike and they will all need to get out alive if they are ever going to get a chance of being together and having a happy ending. There are twists and turns along with danger, betrayal, suspense, kidnapping, caring, hope, love and some difficult situations that needs to be taken care of and that is what makes this book a real page turner and so addictive and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I enjoyed the prequel and was anxious to read the first book. It did not disappoint.
Royce is the MC in this one and he has, without his knowledge, been appointed the sheriff of Rexville. He does not want the job. And things have suddenly gotten very busy in quiet little Rexville. On top of all the mayhem he’s falling for the ATF agent in town, a blast from his past.
The relationship storyline is a fun one where the woman gets to be as kickass as the man for a change. AND, the man respects that! The crime storyline is a bit confusing and there’s a lot left unanswered which appears to be something which will continue in the next book and likely has a connection to the prequel.
I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book.
I just loved Royce and Briar, he is not happy about becoming interim sheriff, she isn't happy to be back in town after leaving when she was 17 and neither expected to see each other again. Sparks fly from the get go between these two and when bullets start flying the skills they have both honed over the years kick in and they make the perfect team to not only during danger but when just the two of them. This has the perfect mix of danger, a bit of a second chance as well as laughter and great characters that I can't wait to learn more about in the next book!.

This is a well written book with a cast of strong characters centering on Rogue and Briar. He's the sheriff who doesn't want to be and she is an ATF agent who's looking to find her father's killer. They make a great team working together even as they fight the chemistry between them. I loved this book and reading their story.

Fall of a King is the first book in the Kings of Rexville, Secret and Lies series. Royce King is back in town starting a security business with his brother and close friends. Briar is an ATF agent and back in town because her father has died and she wasn't informed! There were twists and turns along the way, but overall this was a fantastic story!! Very well written with that perfect pacing that will hook you and not let go!!
King met his match or did he already meet her years ago? The story had so much suspense and action that it kept you reading & laughing out loud. The sizzle was hot & the independent woman strong enough to match him. Absolutely loved reading this & enjoyed unrevealing the suspense & the love. Looking forward to the next!.

Small town romance, throwing in some second chance, suspense and a bit of action Fall of a King was an overall decent read. At under 200 pages it was a quick, afternoon worth read with a new to me author. I loved how Royce and Briar were both agents of the law, ex military and just overall bada$$es in general! I will be checking out more of the Rexville crew for sure.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author did a fantastic job melding humour and suspense with a a good helping of steam.
I loved the characters Briar and Royce as they raced to solve the crime. Their ability to work to each other’s strengths was beautiful while fighting their growing attraction to one another.
Fall of a King by Pepper Bordeaux is a good, and enjoyable small town military romantic suspense/thriller read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story has men who love strong female characters.

This book started pretty slow and had some slow moments throughout. The saving factor for it was that when stuff happened, it happened in spades, with bullets flying, and everything in between. So much so that I am interested in the reading next book.
