This might just be the worst book I've ever read. It is very badly written with terrible spelling and grammar, tense changes and stream of consciousness writing with no punctuation. It has many of the things that I hate in a book - a cheating H, a h with BBS and a h that has unprotected sex with a man without discussing birth control or safety despite knowing that he has had multiple sex partners. The sex scenes literally made me cringe and when Shadow made Mary wear pink kitten ears, a collar with a bell and a butt plug tail, crawl around on the floor and beg for his "cream", I was OUT.

It's books like this that make me wish that we could give negative stars on GR.

When they were younger Jay Kelley and Mary James were each others everything, unfortunately Jay was young and made a mistake that had Mary walking out of his life. Five years later Mary is back and Jay is now known as Shadow, President of the Devil's House MC. There are threats swirling around his club but when Mary reenters his life he is intent on never letting her go again. Can Mary trust Shadow again?

I liked the idea of this but way to kinky for me. The characters are great and thought overall entertaining. Checking out more from this series.

My rating: 2 1/2 stars

What I liked: I liked the drama that came with the ow wanting Shadow/Jay(H). I’m glad the ow got what she deserved along with the crazy guy.

What I didn’t like: I was enjoying this at first even with the errors but then it went downhill. I didn’t like how Mary(h) went to find out who called her name when she knew the crazy guy was after her….and of course she forgot her gun (insert eye rolling). Also, Jay/Shadow putting a tracking device in Mary’s arm without her consent was not cool. I mean they already took care of the bad guy so why do that. Lastly, what happened to being mad at him. She went from being mad to having sex with him in a blink of an eye lol.

***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: h gets a message asking her to meet the H at the MC. h shows up and sees the H getting a bj. She runs and asks her friend who is also a part of the MC to take her away from there. H tries to stop her but no luck. h goes away and stays away for 5 years. She goes back home because she was attacked by a co-worker and he is still at large. When home she goes out and H spots her talking to the friend that is a club brother. H talks to the brother and goes to the h’s place. H and h get back together. H and h get into a couple of arguments (the club woman and seeing him at the strip club for a meeting). When the crazy co-worker kills a stripper, h moves into the clubhouse. The crazy co-worker finds her and with the help from the ow(sweet butt) kidnaps the h, while the H is handling club business. Ow gets mad because the crazy co-worker said he would kill the h and because he doesn’t she kills him. She shoots the h because she wants the H (she drugged the H and was the one who texted the h and gave the H a bj five years ago). The H and his brothers find the h, kill the ow and they get their HEA.

Descriptive Sex: Yes

Final thoughts: This was a rough read for me. Maybe I will try the next book but it definitely won’t be anytime soon.

The stalker trope is a tried and true one, but it’s really hard to put a new twist on it. This book followed the same, familiar pattern and didn’t seem to have anything to say about it or any new insight beyond “stalker =bad guy”. This is the main reason I didn’t give the book that fifth star. I did like how the stalker storyline ended So no fifth star.
As far as the love story went, I really enjoyed it. I liked the main characters, Shadow, MMC, and Mary, FMC, and I thought they were a good match, particularly with their dynamic with the d/s overtones. And they were definitely a match in the bedroom with both of them being enthusiastic about Pet Play. The name Kitten takes on a whole new vibe, lemme tell ya. But it was fun even if Pet Play isn’t your yum. The emotional aspect seemed honest and real, and that’s so important. I love a good First Love, Second Chance story and this definitely qualified.
Book is NOT SAFE because of cheating .
Heat is EXPLICIT and involves PET PLAY.
TRIGGERS include graphic violence, stalking, discussion of ultimate self-harm, and language.
TROPES include Club Ho-Ho-Ho Drama, First Love, Second Chance, Kink, Hot for Teacher, Club Prez, High School Sweethearts, Alpha Male.

It was okay. There were a lot of spelling mistakes though, and parts of the plot felt rushed.

The book begins with Mary supposedly seeing Shadow/Jay getting a blow ** from one of the club women. It fasts forward five years and Mary is living miles away from Jay and the club, but she’s still in love with Jay, and he is love with her. When Mary is attacked by an ex boyfriend she runs to her old town to hide, and Jay vows that she’ll be his. There are a few hiccups along the way as Mary has major trust issues. Unsurprisingly.

I did enjoy it but the danger after a really good build up, fizzled out. There’s way too many spelling mistakes, and incorrect words used. A couple of plot holes spoil it as well. It would have been nice to know if Lenny who is also in the Mc is in love with Mary, or if he just cares about her. I didn’t like Mary’s friends either. They know she’s in danger, they know she’s been injured but still drag her out clubbing!

So yes I enjoyed it, but nowhere near Patch’s book.

Glad I stumbled upon this book. It was actually a pretty enjoyable read. There was enough drama and conflict to keep things interesting. Probably my favorite aspect of the book was Mary trying to resolve her doubts about being able to live within the MC lifestyle. Rarely do these MC romances delve into this issue in a substantive way, so it was refreshing that the author tackled it. I wasn’t really on board with the “kitten” stuff, but other than that, a solid read.

New to me author

This was a new to me author and I will be reading the next in the series. There were a few wording errors ,but nothing that took away from the story. I enjoyed this book, and while it was fairly MC life tame, still had some of the storylines MC lovers will like. I would recommend giving it a try.

This is a new to me kink, not a hard core one just a bit surprising. I liked how OTT Jay was over his kitten, I also liked that she didn’t accept his „cheating“ (there was a good reason/excuse so it’s not unforgivable) and left him, he deserved the heart ache. I felt for Mary and like that she has hesitation on the club life, made her more realistic.

It was fine

I read this because I read the other Cevils club books. Never checked the dates but I. Assuming this was early in Mhairis career. I thought Kitten was immature the entire way through and jumped to conclusions rather than ket the guy explain. But Jay was dumb enough to let her. Lots of typos so would suggest a proofreader or editor.

The story was cheesy, the dialogue was stilted and spelling and grammar were somewhat distracting but what can I say, it was a guilty pleasure and I enjoyed it.
Some violence and references to brutal murders.
Probably won't continue series because the author says future books will be mega-angsty and sounds like HEAs could be up in the air.
But I don't regret reading it.

Ok

The story is a bit patchy, and there are quite a few grammatical errors that distracted from the story.

Not bad overall. I'm sure the stories will get better as the author grows in confidence.

So, so BAAAD. Poor writing, poor English, poor grammar, poor punctuation, and absolutely not believable. Example: he's 25, she ran 5 years ago, he was so heartbroken that he has not 1 single time had sex since then. Did I mention she left him when he was 20? Natural libido anyone?

Couple second chance

Second chance at love. A love that never left their souls. Club girl drama mixed with a crazy stalker ex but not a lot of triggers.

The couple: Jay/Shadow and Mary

Romance trope: MC
Series: The Devil's House MC
Length: 152 pages

Plot: Mary and Jay had a relationship in high school, and one day, she gets a text to meet him at the MC (which he was going to prospect for). She does and walks in on him getting some...attention from another girl. She runs off and runs away. The story starts five years later, when she is attacked by a stalker. She goes back to her hometown to stay with a friend and runs into Jay - now known as Shadow. He's been pining for her (mostly) and when she comes back he wants to set things right and protect her from her stalker.

Commentary: I found the pet play weird, not from a kink standpoint, because that's a matter of whatever makes you happy, but from a timeline standpoint:
When Jay first showed interest in Dom pet play, I wasn't sure I could do it. I felt embarrassed, especially the crawling. But the first time I saw how aroused it made him, it only heightened my arousal. I came to love it, crave it. The ownership over my body. The control. And his body, God, he was gorgeous.

They were in high school. I'm not saying it's not possible, just that it's more unlikely and a little strange how detailed and extensive their experience is. Guess they weren't in any extra-curriculars or clubs because they seemed to have a lot of extra time!
But also, I was irritated with Jay, of course, because he was like "why did you run away"after she caught him with another girl. He told her that of course he wasn't really having sex with the other girl (just a BJ!) and he was drugged and thought it was her - the usual; but how on earth was she supposed to know that? And the way he kept calling her friend a b!tch was annoying. At least they did solve the mystery of what happened that night.
Mostly, I think this could be a good story, with some editing. Without it, the story didn't flow that well and the dialogue was a little weird - stilted in places, and choppy.

Grammar/formatting: needed another run through with an editor/proofreader, badly

Next book in the series: Play With Me (The Devil's House, MC #2 ) Fuse: Biker Romance
