This is an absolutely beautiful book. From the cover, the endpapers and everything in between. It’s filled with bright and colourful illustrations of every flower included, some of which are from the far flung corners of the world. For each flower we are given the common and Latin names, but the special bit we are given is the growing and blooming behaviours of each flower, along with any historical or regional beliefs about any powers the flower is thought to hold. Then the author very cleverly likens all or part of that information to our behaviours as humans. This book is both thought provoking and beautiful and I loved it. I highly recommend it and I think it would make a wonderful gift. My thanks to the author, the publisher and to LoveBooksTours for gifting me this book. I am leaving this review of my own volition.
It takes us on a wonderful, colourful journey around the world and shows us some of the flowers that can be found - their meanings - and in some cases, how they defy what we understand about growing plants.
Each double page has a short piece about the flower of choice, giving us some information and history, and the most beautiful illustrationof the flowers in bloom.
I found this fascinating as along with some of our own well known favourites, there are also some amazing exotic flowers shown and it was lovely to see these and learn a big about them too.
I am not a massive gardener myself, but still thought this book was beautiful and recognised many of the flowers listed. I also think this would make a really gorgeous gift for anyone interested in flowers or gardens.
This was really easy to read and one that I know I'll keep coming back to time and again.
This was one gorgeous, uplifting and engaging read all about flowers and what they would like to teach us! It’s easy to forget that flowers are actually living things, they are alive just like us humans! Do they have thoughts and feelings? Why not! Let your imagination run free and when you see a flower in your path, stop and take a look! You never know what its presence might mean and what it might like to teach you!
The book focuses on sixty different types of flowers from all over the globe and the lessons that they would like to pass on to us about life, love, adversity, hope and much more!
The cover and the art inside are absolutely stunning and guaranteed to raise a smile and a positive attitude! Try reading a random page every morning and let the positive vibes kick off your day!
This is an absolutely stunning book, both in writing and illustration. I was draw to it from the moment I saw the cover, with the vivid and standout drawings. I really enjoyed that the colour and detail of the drawings was carried through the rest of the book as well. I was really able to enjoy and connect with the flowers being spoken about due to the excellent illustrations surrounding each section. I loved the unique nature of this book. It went about connecting us to with the plants and flowers of the world. Whether beautiful or lesser desired, the flowers were show in a light to show the appreciation of the flower, it’s properties and maybe even something you didn’t know it could do. I like the way this book was laid out and the way is shared information, making it easy to read, but made you stop and think. Overall excellent read and a beautiful you’ll regret not buying.
This is a very cute little book that would make a lovely gift. The cover is gorgeous and on each page there is a beautiful illustration and a little passage providing insight into the species. It's one of those books that you can pick up and have a flick through if you want a little boost. The flowers are unusual and interesting. I haven't decided on my favourite yet- I'll come back later to let you know! There's not much in the way of text, I would call it a coffee table book and for me (as a biologist) I wanted a lot more. But it serves it's purpose and definitely has its place in the gift book niche. Its difficult to give a star rating for this kind of book really, so 4 for attractiveness!
The Wisdom of Flowers is a beautiful little book. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and they really add so much to this book. I found the information about the flowers to be absolutely fascinating. I don’t know much about flowers or gardening myself but the combination of beautiful illustrations and engaging words really drew me in. I think this is a must read for any lover of flowers.
Thank you to @LoveBookTours for the gifted copy of this book and letting me be part of the tour. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.
Growing up around flowers as my Dad has always had an allotment, growing both show flowers and wild flowers. This was a book I was only to happy to review. This is a beautiful hardback book. I've been out on walks with my son and grandkids and we took the book with us, and the grandkids have loved looking for some of the flowers that are in the book. This book has been an interesting read, that I've read at different times. This would be a beautiful gift for anyone that loves flowers and the outdoors.
This was a birthday present and it is a lovely gift with beautiful illustrations, but some truly bonkers anthropomorphism which stretched credulity at times - do bees really love certain flowers for their sense of fun?!
I've actually seen a jade vine flower (at an indoor rainforest centre in the UK). We were told at the time it doesn't flower often, but not quite how special it was - I now feel so privileged!
This book is stunning! From the gorgeous illustrations to the informative and beautiful words I loved this book. It sits pride of place on my bookshelf.
It got me thinking about my favourite flower and what it means to me. I love daffodils because to me they symbolise hope, a new start, the light at the end of the tunnel and cheerfulness (they are great to see after a long cold winter).
3.75 stars. Beautiful illustrations, basic intruductions to flowers with little assumptive wisdom such as "Be yourself", "Be bold", or "Everything has its time". A bit basic but sweet. Ideal as a present, The illustrations are work of art.
I haven't read non-fiction in a while, but I love flowers so was drawn to this. I really enjoyed learning about different flowers while seeing certain characteristics of theirs being compared to life. It's a beautiful book!
Beautiful illustrations. Some of the life lessons seemed to be a stretch for the flower, but still a great idea for a book, and quite a few international plants I would never learn about.
The Wisdom of Wildflowers is one of the prettiest books I own. Stunning illustrations, beautifully printed and presented, snippets of wisdom correlate to each flower with a lesson you might glean from it in your own life. This was a gift and I’d highly recommend gifting it to someone who enjoys both flowers—and easy takeaways.
Exquisite book with beautiful art work of 60 unusual flowers and their characteristics and how they can relate to us. Would make a nice gift for a flower lover.
As an avid gardener, this was a must read. I view every flower as a beautiful gift, so I enjoyed the passages and illustrations. Flowers bring me peace and joy. I continue be awed by their beauty. My garden in my sanctuary and this book was what I needed this cold January, because it’s too frigid to be outside.
awesome short book, quick to the point, love the wisdom sprinkled in!! and the paintings of the flowers are very beautiful, just a cute little book! will re-read and share with friends and family
