Rate this book

This book is probably my favorite in the series by far!

Sometimes in such fast-paced stories it can be hard to jump from one character you just seemed to fall in love with, to a new character you just met, but here you've already met Gwyneth and Logan if you've read "Journey to the Highlands".

This book almost seems like three stories in one. First Gwyneth and Logan meet and ...(this shouldn't be a spoiler if you've read the previous book) rescue Caralyn's girls and take them up to Grant keep, then they have another adventure trying to avenge the death of Gwyneth's family and finally they make it back to the Ramsay clan for more action that I don't want to spoil.

At first I found Logan too pushy, especially considering what Gwyneth went through in the the first few pages of the book. I think Keira Montclair was trying to show Gwyneth developing from her prickly independent self into someone who could admit she was in love, but a couple times I found Gwyneth immature.

Other than that I loved the characters and fairly quickly after their group broke off from Robbie's group you begin to see their dynamic change as they start to work together. It's fun to see character mesh and work well together, so that their relationship is more solid than just the romance part; which is fun!

Speaking of it was nice to see some variety in the sex scenes to be honest! Up till this point I felt like all the Grant and Ramsay boys shared notes in bed!

This is a shorter novel, but I felt like there were a couple opportunities missed to flesh out some details, but over all I loved it recommend it!

I do love this series, and although this one can be a stand alone, I would advise reading the others first.

This was a good an entertaining read. Steam level is moderate. Strong heroine for the most part, but I found that the author weakened her a bit about half way through.

Regardless, I still liked the h and the H is likable as well but nothing really spectacular.

If you read the previous book, be forewarned, the author repeats the ending of that in the beginning of this one, but from the perspective of Logan and Gweneth. I saw some reviewers complain about this, but I personally liked it. The repeating occurs only for about the first 20% of the book.

What I disliked the most about the book had to do with a secondary character, and it truly didn't bother me so much that I put the book down. One of the antagonists, Iona was just way too over the top, meaning she is too stereotypical evil. I am not a fan of antagonists being evil due to being crazy, unless the writer really developes the character so that it becomes believable. Here it was not done. But in all honesty I personally was able to overlook it possibly because Iona was not the main antagonist and only shown a few scant times. She was however a character in previous books of the series, yet I still feel her character was flat.

I plan on continuing the series, I am partial to Keira Montclair because she was the first romance author I ever read. ("Rescued by a Highlander", the 1st book in this series, and so far the best).

Logan and Gwyneth's story

When I first began this ebook, I read the introduction by Keira explaining why part of Logan's story was the same as in Quade's story. I love that she thought of including that part of Quade's story rather than trying to give the reader the same information using a different scenario. It made perfect sense, and in my opinion, enhanced the continuity. I would recommend not only this wonderful book, but the entire series. You really begin to understand each character, their depth really inspires believability and connection between the reader and the characters. I don't want to spoil the story for future readers, but I will say that I just couldn't put the book down. Actually, I was addicted by the first book in the series, and each of the following books have been equally as intriguing and well written. If you love the beauty of Scotland, Romance but not overly explicit love scenes, strong willed , often stubborn characters, but human enough to have flaws that need to be dealt with or overcome, you should really enjoy reading about Clan Grant and their extended family. I love when an author allows other characters of interest have their own story. Reading Logan and Gwyneth's story has been a delight! Can't wait to read book six!!!

Highland Sparks...what an appropriate name for this story.

Highland Sparks is this author's best in my eyes to date. I have followed this series since its inception. Every time I think this is the best yet, Ms. Montclair out does herself. I am an honest reviewer so if I give a story a 5 star it is because, in my opinion, it is well deserved. As it is with Logan and Gwyneth's story.

Logan Ramsay and Gwyneth of the Cunninghams were fantastic characters. For me there were never any lulls in the story. Their story grasped my attention from the very beginning and never let me go. I truly love when a story can do that to me.

Their banter was terrific and so entertaining. I laughed out loud numerous times throughout. The passionate love scenes were perfect for my taste too. The storyline drew me in page after page. I loved the fact that the other characters from the previous books were incorporated into it too.

A terrific read. I received this as a gift. I will say, if you love Highlanders, then pick this up. You will enjoy it. The whole series is wonderful. I am anxious for the next story in this series.

Awesome Read!!

This was my favorite highlander series. Love the romance, adventure, and story lines. Each book just continued from the one before. Couldn't wait to read each one to see what happened to the next family member. I loved all the endings as well. I highly recommend this series if you love handsome, strong, honorable, Highlanders who will do anything for the love of their life.

I have truly enjoyed this series from the first book to this book they all tell a different story and different things happen this is a series I would recommend to anyone who enjoys historical romances but beware some of these books are not for the weak so if you are weak don't read... don't take that as I am trying to offend someone it's just some of the books deal with rape and extreme abuse.

Nice

This was a good one. I love the strength of Gwyneth but her stubbornness some times made me want to slap her. But she turned out to be amazing. Logan loyal as ever, his patient for her was amazing. Beautiful book.

Great Scottish Highlands novel

Love this story and the people in it. The heroine is a lass who defies convention by wearing leggings and tunic instead of skirts. She is an expert archer but struggles with some female conventions. Loved the love story.

Another awesome novel

The only thing I dislike about these novels is once you start reading, you can't put them down. I've read 5 so far and can't wait to start the next one.

Fun read!

My favorite one of the lot-I am to see more of Gwynth and Logan as medieval spies. What a funny twist on the same ole' brawny mean in kilts theme.

I LOVE Gwyneth and Logan! There were a lot of dark themes in this book, but I like that it overlaps with the previous book and fills in some gaps. I love the chemistry between the two, but I especially love that Gwyneth is a strong female lead. I love that Logan supports her and isn't intimidated or threatened by her strength and instead respects the boundaries she draws.

I’ve read other books in this series so maybe that’s why this felt so familiar, but I still enjoyed it. I liked that Gwyneth was different. She was raised by a man with two brothers, and she was more of a tomboy than woman.

But she was still vulnerable despite her blister, and Logan took a liking to her upon first sight. He was immediately drawn to her and knew pretty much from their first meeting that she would be his.

The style keeps improving and I'm glad.
I didn't like all the inner turmoil when she was facing the villain, but I could relate to it.
And we're back to the twist at the end... which I didn't appreciate at all, like I didn't with the ones in the previous books.
At least in this case it had a different meaning because it gave the heroine the opportunity to a great act of courage and it gave the hero much needed perspective on what happens when it's a dear one in danger.

I have read all of KM's books and am so pleased that she was tamer then in her last read. The author is forced to overlap her story in order to paint a complete tale and I agree with her. That means some of the dialog and scenes you've read from the previous book is there again. I liked this idea because if I had picked up this book first it works as a stand alone. Some old villains are back in this book and they are still up to their wicked ways.

This also is a milder book than the books previous and while I appreciate the lack of viciousness I missed some of the drama she has brought fourth in the past. I know you just can't please me. Her last book was too violent, IMO, and here I am complaining about this book not having enough. It is a nice story and Lily, Ashlyn, and Gracie are so dear to my heart after reading all of their torment. One of my favorite parts was on their journey back to the Grants keep.

Logan is snuggled up with little Gracie for the night, while Gwyneth is with Ashlyn. Part way through the night Ashlyn appears in front of Logan. She is a popsicle and wants to cuddle in. Next thing you know Gwyneth gives up being stubbornness and all of them are all under his plaid. It is such an adorable image to have these 3 terrified woman under the protection of Logan Ramsey. He is such a tiger ladies and not too proud to admit when a lady has a better shot than him. He is gentle with her and encourages Gwyneth to overcome her father and brothers murderer.

Thank you KM for putting this in Kindle format for all of us to enjoy. I hope to read many more of your books yet to come. This read does have love scenes and I liked the originality of there locations. Logan made a nice H. I really have liked all her H. The villain wasn't as prominent as in the other books. Usually the villain has his moment to do his dastardly deeds (and he did) it just wasn't as much of a focus as in her other books. I appreciated the fact we got time to spend with the couple together more than in the last book and happy to see all her old characters. Enjoy!

Highland Sparks by Keira Montclair
Clan Grant Series Book Five
Logan Ramsay had become a bit of a wanderer after his nephew and niece had become ill. When he couldn't be in control...he left. On one of his excursions to help locate Robbie Grant after the Battle of Largs, he found the perfect woman. Now he just had to convince her he was her perfect man.

Gwyneth of the Cunningham had been raised around men. She couldn't work needlepoint, but she could beat the pants off any man when it came to archery. She preferred the clothes of a warrior and she had one mission in life—revenge on the man who killed her father and brother.

I had read the Highlander Clan series first and Logan and Gwyneth were often a part of those books. It was wonderful to finally read their story and see how it all began for them. And what a great story it was!

another enjoyable installment

Logan and Gwyneth...I admit the entire time I was reading about Robbie and Caralyn I kept wondering, "But what about Logan", since I've loved him since Quade and Brenna's wonderful story. I'm so glad Logan found someone to love and who loves him. But unlike our other heroines, I got tired of Gwyneth's constant whining and self involvement. Perhaps I shouldn't have read them one after another, because I did get tired of her. Even at the very end she is still wrapped up in herself as she wonders if Logan lied to her about their secret profession...

Ah well, not everyone is made of tough stuff even though being tough is supposedly what attracted Logan in the first place...I guess everyone's definition of tough is different and that's what makes us all unique.

Another good piece for Ms. Montclair.

I would actually give this an extra half a star if I could. I did not have the same passionate response to this book as I have had to the others in the series. There was nothing wrong with it. In fact the main characters were downright great. I guess I found the plot rather underwhelming overall. Also, the fact that the focus totally shifted in the last 4th was a negative for me. Build up for the big face off only to sort of have a throw away moment that wrapped it up to then introduce a new, different threat out of seemingly nowhere was a confusing choice. Still worth the read for the characters, but the weakest to date in what has so far been a strong series.

Book Five in Clan Grant series

Two more of the fantastic characters brought to life by Keira Montclair have set the pages on fire! Logan and Gwyneth are two of the strongest people in Scotland. With Logan's Clan behind him, and Gwyneth's fire for revenge over the murder of her father and eldest brother...they create an unbreakable bond as they serve and protect for their King and Country.

As always, the folk on the pages are bigger than life. I found myself laughing, gasping, crying, and praying for all to be well.

Don't you just LOVE when a book can fold you inside and keep you safe to the end???

This book lost me when she couldn't kill the man that killed her family and kidnapped her and planned to sell her into slavery. She was ordered to kill the man by her boss. She demanded she be allowed to do it over and over, but couldn't do it? Ridiculous, if not then let the hero do it before other people are hurt. Instead we let the story continue on and on as she tries to find her courage. Ugh. Not for me and the ending for the villain felt very contrived.

unexpected surprise

After reading all 5 books I began to wonder by the 5th book what the Author would do to make the next one different. That was a nice touch having Gwyneth &Grant working toward the same goal. I will not be more specific so I will not spoil this for the new reader. Good series.

Gwnyth turned out to be much better than I originally thought. True she was a shrew for the first half of the book but she soon allowed some of her walls to be knocked down. Logan was really likable. too. Lots of adventure, likable characters and some decent intimate scenes.

Despite my initial thoughts, this one held my interest.

4 stars for story and narration.
