We are all in exile from something or somewhere. But how do we find our way home if we don’t know what home is?
The city of Capston should have been safe under the protective dome of New Inland. Yet, random explosions have the city on edge.
Mayor Phil Fox couldn’t keep Capston safe. But Phil’s failure is new mayor Steven Reekan’s opportunity. If he can bring the terrorists to justice, he’ll prove to the other New Inland mayors that this son of a metalworker belongs in the High Council.
Steven’s success can’t come fast enough for Robbie Sheppard and the Sheppard Family Inn. Raising two younger brothers while struggling to keep his late parents’ business alive— it’s almost too much. Until the terror arrives at his door.
Outside, Lieutenant Paolo Desantos has a lot to prove to the Free City of Motherland, and even more to his father, the fanatical Colonel of the armed forces. Paolo will fulfill his destiny, no matter the cost.
Exiles takes place in a world of class struggles, crime syndicates, rogue states, and folk tales. Sometimes the real world can be deceiving.
Obtained my copy of the book at an Author event a week ago today and finished reading it last night. This book has many characters which are so well developed that you can't help but want to know more about each of them. I became genuinely interested in their lives! I also feel like I need to go back and re-read the book because, as the plot revealed itself and I learned more about the connections between the characters, I feel certain that there were a few dots that I didn't connect along the way!
My final thoughts are on the world created by the author. Earth's progression to the domed cities was presented in a way that made it believable. There seemed to be constant juxtapositions in the world the author created. Old fashioned cobble stones and pillory vs. the technology used to scan and track movement of citizens, women always preparing the meals in the home yet men in the secretary/admin roles in the offices. I was constantly trying to gauge if, despite the circumstances that led to the domed cities, progress was being made or mankind was reverting to "old ways". I was fully engaged in the world the author created. I couldn't help myself!
I very much enjoyed this book and am now impatiently waiting for the book two!!
Started slow, but picked up after the first 1/3rd of the book. Interesting cast of characters, great character building. Looking forward to picking up the second book of the series.
