Jocelyn Hayes and her two younger sisters have inherited the family farm in Honey River Canyon, Montana Territory, after their parents perished in a blizzard. Fast forward to 1877, five and half years later, Josie is no longer seventeen going on eighteen, trying to survive. At twenty-three, beautiful, vivacious, and independent, she has learned to succeed. She has a strong desire to expand Cherry Crossing into the horse farm Pa had always envisioned, but one man stands in the way, Jacob Hunter. Infuriated, Josie hopes to change his mind, but can she fight a man she finds so infuriatingly attractive?
Jake Hunter arrives from Philadelphia, running from things in his past, shaking his faith. After inheriting his grandfather’s trading post, the mayor’s mansion, and remaining town plots in Honey River Canyon, maybe a fresh start is exactly what he needs. He instantly clashes with Miss Jocelyn Hayes, the belligerent beauty who accuses him of swindling her out of the horse he purchases. Although he never met his grandfather, a man of honor, Jake is no swindler, but convincing Josie otherwise proves challenging and complicated.
When a cattle baron’s son turns up dead, fingers point to Jake, and now he must prove his innocence, win Josie’s heart, live up to his grandfather’s legacy, and carve out a place for himself within the community. In a rock and a hard place, he finds he can’t do any of it without his faith in God.

Jake and Josie's story had everything I want in a historical western romance and then some. The story came steeped in faith, had suspense, some humor, lots of action, and kept me turning the pages. I couldn't put it down.
Just when I thought I had things figured out, there were some surprises to keep me thinking. There was constant action and I loved Josie's spunk and take charge attitude. She also showed great compassion and cared for her two sisters as a tight-knit family.
Can't wait to read the next ones. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed this story with romance, mystery, and some inspirational moments. The characters are interesting and the story line good. Do enjoy the way the main characters meet over a horse that both claim they own; she'd made a deal for the horse and he bought the horse not knowing she made a deal to buy it. So much to going on that I was really interested in reading this story and findimpnf out how it ended.
The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming action story full of drama, misunderstanding, murder, false accusations, faith and romance. This is Jocelyn ("Josie") Hayes and Jacob ("Jake") Hunter's story, and the character development is excellent. Josie and her two sisters inherited the family farm in Honey Canyon, Montana when their parents died in a blizzard. Jake had inherited his farm, along with other properties, upon the death of his grandfather. Josie and Jake each had ideas about the development of their respective farms, ideas which sometimes did not go over well with the other, including a disagreement about the ownership of a certain horse. Will the couple, with God's help, ever be able to realize the other one may just be what they need? Will they be able to work together to accomplish a common goal? Be sure and read this wonderful story to find out; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
This is a great start to a new series! Jake has moved to claim his inheritance from a grandfather he never knew. Josie's home at Cherry Crossing has been home for years, and now she's ready to build on her father's dream, until Jake buys her horse in what she's sure is a swindle. When she first meets him, she calls him a swindler, and then later realizes just how wrong she is. However, every time they meet, she opens her mouth before thinking, and insults him further. Jake is attracted to Josie, though he thinks of her as being belligerent. Will they be able to truly get to know each other, or will first impressions last?
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
This is a delightful book, filled with action, drama, humor, romance and faith. Even though they get off to a bad start, I loved the way Jake and Josie's romance progresses. I also loved the description of their clothing and surroundings that still gives you a visual, without spending too much time on the details. The characters are well rounded and likable and the plot was great. I look forward to reading the rest of this series and highly recommend this book.
What a delightful historical romance! Set in Honey River Canyon, in Montana Territory, the scenery is beautiful and makes one want to live there (unfortunately, there is no such place). Strong-minded and determined female characters forge a path of making a successful farm/horse farm, while equally as strong men help the Hayes women at their farm and work to make the town a better place. The faith of both the hero and heroine help them through difficult times. This was a wonderful Christian romance! This book was given to me and the opinions expressed here are my own.
This is the first book in the Montana Meadows books and it's wonderful. The characters are well developed and the storyline is really good. This is the story of Josie and Jake and it really takes some twists and turns. The book kept my interest and I wanted to keep reading it till I finished it. I highly recommend this book. I was given a copy of the book but the review is my own opinion.
I enjoyed reading this story and I'm looking forward to the other books. Josie and Jake have a complicated relationship, but it makes for a great story.
I loved this story and could hardly put it down! Great characters and plot. Characters came alive on the pages. Great story for those who enjoy reading historical romance. And I’m looking forward to the other books of this series. I received a copy of this book but all opinions are mine.
Great book! I love Cherry Crossing and the sisters that live there. This book has adventure, romance and action. Such a fun read. So many great characters, keeps the reader fully engaged and trying to figure out how the story will end. If book one is and indication to the rest of the series then readers will be begging for the next book!
Jocelyn and Jake’s story. Things in the Wild West don’t always go the way they should. Strangers can’t always be trusted. Jocelyn lives with her sisters on the family farm and works hard at home and in her community at the children’s home. Jake has come to Montana to live in this Grandfather’s home after his passing and seeing how he feels about living in the West. This story is ensconced with wonderful characters, romance, and filled with faith! You won’t want to put it down.
I must admit, I am an old softy for “Old Westerns”. This book had me at, “Miss Jocelyn Hayes the belligerent beauty”, in the book’s description, because I love a good story about women with backbone and spunk! Author, Lisa Prysock, did not disappoint! The story is easy to read and sets you in the Montana Territory right away. I was immediately transported back to 1877 in the western town of Honey River Canyon. The scenes are majestic and the story of three young girls, who just entered “Adulthood”, take on managing a beautiful ranch left to them by their late parents. The fun begins with a horse, an agreement that was broken and a very handsome man. Jocelyn (Josie) became my new best friend as I read… I rooted for her in every way! She made me giggle most times in the way she reacted. I fell in love with the townsfolk (They are a hoot) and the town itself. The greatest thrill for me as I read each chapter were the quotes they began with. Lisa Prysock really made that a true gem for me, I hadn’t seen that in other books I read and the quotes were always so fitting per chapter. Of course, every book needs some action…again the author delivers with excitement and suspense. In the midst of trials and troubles sometimes we are praying and cannot understand why God doesn’t seem to be listening. I love how this is illustrated in the book because it is something we all deal with throughout our lives. There are so many truths throughout the book. Although a fictional story, so much we can learn in our own lives. You will want to read this! It is series which is so cool, because you will become attached to the characters in this book. I can hardly wait to move on to the next book in the Montana Meadow series. OH! And there is a little surprise in the Author notes at the end of the book. I really love when authors become personal and share with their readers special things related to the story. NO PEEKING, just read till the end and the Author notes too. I squealed with joy.
It is 1877 and the Hayes sisters have suffered the loss of their parents in a blizzard and Jocelyn (Josie), the oldest, is trying to realize their father's dream for the farm the three girls inherited - he wanted to breed horses along with maintaining the cherry orchard. Josie had been saving for a stallion that the owner had promised her if she could come up with the money by the agreed upon date. However, one day before the date, he sold the horse to Jacob Hunter, a new arrival to town who sees the move west as a chance for a fresh start away from his past. Jacob has inherited his grandfather's considerable holdings in the town - land, a mansion, a trading post - and he is being courted by others in the town to run for the mayorship which became vacant when his grandfather died. Jacob also stands between Josie and her dream, but that does not stop him from asking her to the town's dance. Chad Martin, the son of a wealthy cattle rancher, has been courting Josie and he intends to run for mayor, too. Josie is furious with Jacob for buying "her horse" and wants him to sell the horse to her. He refuses, but in spite of her anger, she finds Jacob very attractive. Amidst gold mining, church missions, and land/power grabs, Josie and her sisters rely on their faith in God to help them navigate life without their parents. Will Josie find true love? And what happens when Jacob is suddenly accused of murder? Oh, and BONUS: Author Lisa Prysock gives her recipe for cherry scones at the end!
The sisters Jocelyn Jacqueline and Jillian inherited their father's farm. Their dream was to make it into a horse farm. They worked hard to save money to buy horses. Unfortunately, someone bought the horse Josie had made an agreement to purchase. Jake Hunter had inherited his grandfather's mansion. He found Josie to be a bit of a Spitfire but he loved her spunk. Each of the sisters look to be married and each had their own individual pursuits. Trouble and mystery comes to Cherry Crossing. Would they ever be the same? Do any of the Marry? Does Josie acquire her horse? Read this charming tale of faith, mystery, death, and romance, you will not be disappointed. I received this book as a gift and all words are strictly my own.
5 stars all day long! What a wonderful blessing this story is! It does start out a little slow, but quickly starts to reel you in and you don’t want to stop reading it. Filled with human emotions so great. References to Bible versus are before each chapter and relates to what’s in that chapter. This story is full of stubbornness. Sass, orphans, nuns, runaway children, murder, wrongly accused, a very sneaky but very old way of capturing the bad guys, and a Mayor race! A little bit of everything makes this a wonderful book to this series! There is so much here for future books that Ms Prysock could write on. Can’t wait
I wanted to read something historical with romance and faith/Christian values. Cherry Crossing by Lisa M. Prysock was a lovely choice for that! I really enjoyed the connection between Josie and Jake. I was pleasantly surprised by the mystery/suspense in the story. I loved the setting and the author did a nice job with the descriptions. I felt transported back to Montana Territory in 1877. This book just checked all the boxes I was looking for: historical, sweet romance, faith/inspiration, and western. I will read more in this series.
I purchased this book and am sharing my honest review; this is not influenced in any way.
This is a sweet adventurous and exciting mail order bride tale. Helen is a debutant and her father apprehended for cooking the books and stealing money. Helen has now lost everything snd their home being repossessed. She answers and advertisement from a deputy in the west. Upon arriving she is put off immediately and shortly there after realizes he is not what he represented himself to be. She meets Jake and sparks fly almost immediately. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

This book was recommended by a friend and I enjoyed it. Three sisters in Montana Territory, worked their farm, raised horses and had a wonderful orchard their father had started. The cherries sounded delicious and the recipe at the end was a nice addition. There’s a bit of mystery, a fun event and a lot of goodness throughout the book. This story can be read by anyone.
What a beautiful story. Filled with scripture, quotes, so much to name. Loved the story of faith, trials, surprises and how to move forward in life when lost comes for someone. Thank you Lisa Prysock for another splendid book. Can't wait for the next one. Bravo!!!
I have to say this is really a cute little story, that's the only reason I kept reading it. It certainly is more suited for teenaged girls than adults though. I did enjoy the scriptures at the beginning of each chapter, even though I got a bit impatient at the juvenileish (I don't think this is a word - just seemed appropriate) writing.
I received this book from Lisa Prysock as a gift! What a well written story of adventure, tragedy, independent women, full of inspiration, faith, courage, and of course love. Great story with excellent characters and enjoyable plot. Highly recommend this book for all to enjoy!! ❤️❤️
Wonderful historical western. This story offers faith, adventure, mystery, romance, and humor. What else do you need? How about a well written plot and well developed characters? Yes, this story has those too. Loved this story (obviously), and recommend it highly!!
I don't think I have read anything by this author before, but liked this one well enough that I want to read more, especially the other two in this series. Historical novel, but with suspense. Great plot and characters
This book was a very fun read! Love that it’s set in 1877! Like a movie in my mind! The best of all, the beautiful black stallion that brought them together! Beautiful book. Sweet and clean Christian themes. Romance and danger mixed in.
I enjoyed this book! The story was captivating! There some unexpected twists in the plot. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I recommend reading this book!
What an awesome, sweetly romantic, heart felt story! I smiled throughout the book! The characters, places, circumstances - I could see them all in my mind!
