Brendan Murray is Maelstrom defined. I knew Brendan would have a dark and stormy journey to a hard-earned HEA in the third book in the Red Door series by Dyan Layne. This unconventional, age-gap romance is equally sexy and unpredictable. What a plot twist! Maelstrom is a total binge read. The Red Door series of books are all interconnected standalones. I would recommend reading the first two books first, in order to understand the family and friends dynamics. One-click worthy.

I loved Brendan...the cousin that takes on the responsibility of his cousins, who feels he is unworthy of love, but loves Katelyn deeply and wholeheartedly.
Katelyn, a young, but very mature young woman who has captured the attention of Brendan, and loves him with everything she has. The man who gives her butterflies with every kiss and every touch.

Wow! Dyan Layne continues to deliver her best with Maelstrom. The title couldn't be more perfect; I felt like I was in a storm reading this book. This is the story of Brendan and Katelyn and, as always, Ms. Layne brings the heat and it is scorching at The Red Door. There were twists and turns in this book that I never saw coming and kept me on the edge of my seat.
It's a standalone, but I can't recommend enough to read the first two books in the series, Serenity and Affinity, to get to meet and know this cast. I loved watching the evolution of the characters we've already met and those we've yet to meet.
I love the way this author writes, and I'm already looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend her. If you're a "cover" person, which I am, just take a look at these. They are absolutely some of my favorites of all time.

The Red Door series is back with the story of Brendan! We got to know Brendan as a really closed-off person, not interested in pursuing. happiness and a HEA! His interests portrayed in the previous books were all about working, hanging out with his family, and fu**king!
Enters Maelstrom! Enters Katelyn!
She came out of nowhere and brought light in the darkness that was his life. Their relationship was kind of taboo (age gap), but the chemistry between them did not let them keep away from each other.
What an amazing read that was! Brendan really surprised me with how perfectly perfect he was, he really upgraded from how he came off in the other books!
With that being said, I would have like to see some more character and story development. I don't want to give any spoilers, but i would have loved to see more on how his past family experiences shaped him into who he became, or how the "suspense" part of the story was resolved. I found that many parts of the story were left somewhat all over the place!
Other than that, a veeery enjoyable read!

Maelstrom was fantastic! I loved Katelyn and Brendan, even when Brendan was being stupid 🤣. The two meet by chance and anonymously and end up finding their way to each other throughout some crazy circumstances. But that’s not all! Once they find their way to their happily ever after, it’s not necessarily easy to keep. There’s a lot of drama, mistakes and love. The steam level is turned way up in this book and I loved it! I have read Serenity in this series so I was already familiar with the family, however, you don’t need to read any of the previous books in the series in order to read this one. But I promise you, you will want to!!

This is another phenomenally written and captivating book by Author Dyan Layne! Brendan and Katelyn’s story leaves you emotionally raw after cycling through every emotion possible! I absolutely love that we get see what’s going on with characters from the previous books, and hopefully future books!
If you love dark contemporary romances, characters that own their sexuality, marvelous storylines, epic world building, and incredibly complex characters, then this book and series is absolutely, 100% for you! I consider it a Must Read and cannot wait for the next book!

I have been waiting for Brendan's story & it was everything and more.
He captured me from the first page to the last.
His love, his tortured soul, his ability to always help others before himself makes him so lovable that all the other messed stuff in his life you want to just make it all go away.
I love his alpha ways when it comes Katelyn. He knows he wants her and he when he gets her, he is direct yet gentle.
He makes you melt at his words and actions with her.
Katelyn & Brendan's chemistry is magically hot!
This story is full of love, sex, twists, suspense and surprises you won't see coming.
I loved it all!
Brendan is my favorite book boyfriend in this series.

I AM UNDONE. I don’t even know what is happening in my brain right now. My thoughts are all over the place and I’m so completely, unbelievably obsessed. This series, The Red Door series, truly threw me for a loop. I was absolutely unprepared for what Dyan Layne would bring to the table with Serenity but now? We’re on book three and I’m sitting here thinking…how does it just keep getting better and better? These books are sexy and passionate but also intriguing and complex. We get to taste a bit of everything as we sample each of these delicious men and their equally compelling partners.
To say I was excited about Brendan’s book would have been a gross understatement. I knew he was dark and mysterious but I had no idea just how low he was. He carries so much weight on his shoulders throughout this entire novel. He is passionate but afraid to open up and allow himself to feel his feelings. Katie is eighteen. If you know me at all you know I am ALL ABOUT an age gap. This fit my every desire. She’s young, naive, and oh-so innocent. Gah! Dyan had me eating out of the palm of her hand. This was delicious!! (How many times have I used that word already? LOL). So here we have a thirty two year old sex club owner and an innocent eighteen year old college student who meet and share a kiss in a park one night without even exchanging names. It is a true ‘love at first sight’ story and I cannot even TELL you how much I love those! Ladies I was ON THE FLOOR. This book was perfect! I will say it again: PERFECTION.
There is also a lot that happens in this novel. Maybe I was too preoccupied with the sex scenes in the last book, but I had no idea just how intense things were getting with “she know shall not be named”. Oh man…this book took a crazy turn in the middle and I almost got sick. I lost track of what was happening because I was feeling so many things. I won’t spoil anything for you but get ready, I’m serious, you are not prepared for this book. The chemistry, the love (from everyone not just between our main couple), the tears and pain! I cannot praise Dyan Layne enough for writing this series. It is the best, sex-positive, delicious series I’ve ever read and I need more asap. 5 stars as always!!

Who knew all it would take for the owner of the biggest erotic club this side of the Mississippi to finally fall would be a little Irish folklore and a chance encounter with a sweet young woman.
Kaitlyn literally runs into Brendan and inexplicably share an earth shattering kiss considering Brendan’s background, this was a little hard to believe but hey I’m buying the folklore stuff. I usually despise 18 yr old virgins, but Kaitlyn was written with enough wisdom to be believable as the love of 32 year old Brendan’s life. Besides the 14 yr age difference, the getting pregnant on the very first time and the weird conclusion to the wicked witch Salena, this book still has enough interesting characters to keep you interested. I wanted Cameron to be involved but since that didn’t happen, please give that boy a book. Dillon is next and I hope we had the last of the 18yr olds.

Since I first read this series, I have wanted Brendon's story, and he and Katelyn did not disappoint! I loved seeing the one that usually guides his family finally be the one that needed a little help. The turmoil and conflict of the characters kept me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath. Yet, there is something so profoundly beautiful about this series. The characters' emotions, vulnerability, and deep connection that each couple and the group share make this a series you'll remember and return to for years to come.

I was very happily surprised about Brendan. To see more of his tender side, to get to know how much he cared so deeply for the members in his family. It was beautiful to be in his mind. I felt at times he was so overwhelmed with feelings. He was very empathetic. He would hug someone a little longer by remembering the things that maybe that person has went through, kissed their a cheek a bit longer remembering that person’s strength. He was so much more than the intense sex club owner.
Maelstrom is a thrilling story that was both the light side and dark side of love that resulted from one magical night. A night that comforted Brendan who is plagued with guilt and a villain who isn’t messing around.
Katelyn practically threw fairy dust on Brendan, as soon as they meet, they are wrapped up with one another, and POOF gone. It was a night they both held on to, and when they meet again to truly make things work, it has to be more than just that moment. I appreciated the work they both put into the relationship, and the age gap added to the sexiness. I love that with her, he LOVED. He didn’t just fuck. He connected, he was all eyes, staring into her soul and wanted her to stare back into his. I am telling you this one scene was gorgeous. Brendan not only knows how to be kinky, but with her he wants to love on all her buttons! (You feel me?)
The author is vivid. You will feel, you swear the characters are with you. They are so real that you could feel Brendan’s stare or his arms wrapped around you, or hear Katelyn’s laugh or see her smile. Scene after scene, I could feel the heartbreak and healing.

And we are back to "The Red Door Series" and let me tell you this series keeps getting better and better.
This story is full of turmoils, it's raw, it's sexy, it's forbidden, it's everything I was expecting and so much more.
Brendan is one of the characters I adored from Serenity (book #1). I new his story was going to amazing but Dyan Layne took it to a different level. This character had so many internal conflicts, battling his past decisions, feeling guilty and just living in the dark.
When Brendan met Katelyn he saw a light and for the very first time in a long time he dare to dream.
Katelyn showed him that love was beyond all expectations. Their journey was a test in all aspects and I loved every single part of their story.
Like in all of Dyan's books there is always a message there, and for me is that: Love is Love regardless of everything else.
So this story for me was incredible, the plot was perfection and the characters amazing!!!
I highly recommend this series!

Where do I begin... I was provided this ARC and let me tell you, it was absolutely brilliant. I haven’t read the previous books in the series and now I have to get back to the beginning because I need to know how the other characters got to be where they are right now.

Age gap relationship, can’t always fight the feelings even when you want too. Sexy, steamy, complicated and beautiful truly a beautiful story. Katelyn and Brendan story was a roller coaster I enjoyed so much. I took my time enjoying this book and highly recommend the whole series. You can read this book as a standalone.

This is my first Dyan Layne read. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I started following Layne on Instagram and she's a sweetheart. I heard about her books from different bookstagrammers... so I had to read this one. Plus I heard it was an AGE GAP romance and you all know how I am with those😉
Let me start by saying this book is soooo beautiful... 💖
This is a new author to me and going into it I had no idea what the story was about so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this.
I loved this book. I loved Brendan & Katelyn! The chemistry between them is so strong and powerful that I felt each moment Layne wrote. The heartfelt scenes and the twists just gripped me and had me devouring page after page.
I loved their story so much because we don't read only about the bad stuff that happened but about the good ones too...They learned how to fall in love for the very first time and be sweet and funny and argue about silly things like all the new couples do...
At some point we got pretty HAWT...!
Because let me tell you when they were ready for the next step... the sex scenes... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 whew! On fire! Brendan is hot hot hot.
These two together were amazing. I really enjoyed how they interacted with one another, we see a different side of them...and that was pretty cool!
I could go on and on about Maelstrom but I don't want to give much away here, because this is a story that deserves to be read.
I highly recommend this book. Go buy it! I have a feeling you’ll fall in love with these characters as much as I did! ❤

Brendan Murray intrigued me from the moment he was introduced in Affinity (Book1). Everything about him screams Dominant Alpha, from his take charge attitude to the fact that he provides instruction for erotic practices at The Red Door. But little hints were dropped here and there throughout book 1 and 2 that lets the reader know there is so much more to Brendan. Behind all that muscle and tattoo there’s a story.
Maelstrom is that story!
Being the oldest Brendan carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Family is everything to him even though he doesn’t believe he will ever have anything close to what his cousins have.
And then a beautiful girl kisses him in the park on Midsummer's Eve and turns his world upside down!
I loved getting in Brendan’s head and finding out his story. His darkness makes him incredibly sexy, it also makes him vulnerable but he hides it, (which is one of my favorite things about him) or tries to hide it. The people who love him and know can see past the facade he’s created.
Like Katelyn. (who by the way is young but incredibly strong and I love that about Dyan’s heroine’s.)
Falling in love is a game changer. Everything Brendan swore wasn’t in the cards for him was happening. It was perfect until it wasn’t…

Oh, Dyan... I knew you had a good one in store for Brendan, but damn. I probably kept giggling like a schoolgirl throughout this book. Except when you ripped out my heart, you know. But I have a feeling I haven't seen anything yet. You're going to ruin me. I know it.
If there's one person who deserved a happily ever after it was Brendan. This man. This man put everyone first, everything first except himself. He loves SO hard. He deserved to be loved just as hard.
I'm so glad Katelyn caught his eye and gave him the chance he needed. They're so perfect for each other.

Having read Serenity and Affinity I've been looking so forward to more of the Red Door series! From the moment i found out about this third installment i couldn't wait to get into it! I picked it up and got back into this world as soon as i could. I so enjoyed this third book!
Katelyn and Brendan's journey pulled me in right from their memorable first meeting! I really liked how i wasn't sure what all was going to happen in their story. I so enjoyed the chemistry between these two!
With Maelstrom, Ms.Layne has created such a good read that'll be sure to get your attention quickly!

This book took me by surprise. It’s full of twist and turns that you don’t expect. Amazing chemistry mixed with hard decisions. They both try to fight it but can’t. Brendon and Katelyn’s story was definitely amazing to read. Once I started it I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend. Can be read as a standalone but definitely would read the first two books. Characters from the other books are in here and to fully understand I recommend reading the books in order. Highly recommend this series. Was amazing. Can’t wait for the next book.

This was an amazing story and beautifully told by Dyan Layne. I was already in love with this world since the first book, Serenity, and now I am even more solidified in my love after reading about Brendan and Katie. Without a doubt Ms. Layne is one of my top 5 authors (with her at number 1). You will not regret any of the time you spend in the world of Kyan, Dillon, Jesse, Brendan, Taylor, and the rest of the guys from Venery as well as their lovely partners (Linnea, Chloe, and Katie, so far...).

I’m obsessed with this series! This one was so much fun that I couldn’t put it down! I loved the characters and story! For me personally, Brendan got a little aggressive for my taste, but overall I really enjoyed it was will stick with the rest of the series!
I definitely recommend this for fans of spicy romance!

Afterwards, Brendan comes back, gives her a mind blowing orgasm, then leaves her cold

Katelyn, naïve when it comes to sex, Brendan helps her to explore her sexual wants and needs, and he discovers that she likes the things that he does to her
But through all this, Salena is out to exact vengeance against Brendan and his family, through any means necessary, and she’ll use everything at her disposal to do so
Brendan and Katelyn share a magical night together, where she gives Brendan her virginity, and she has no regrets in doing so.
Katelyn then makes a trip home to see her family, where she is faced with an inquisition from her overbearing and judgemental mother and her aunts about Brendan. When Brendan comes to visit it all comes to ahead.
Then during a routine doctors visit, Katelyn discovers that she is pregnant, swearing Chloe to secrecy.
Brendan makes plans to propose to Katelyn, but it all comes to ahead when Salena turns up dead and Brendan is charged with her murder. Faced with the prospect of going to prison, he brakes it off with Katelyn. Brendan faces backlash from both Chloe and Matt, he knows he has his family regardless of his f@#k up.
Katelyn goes home to her family, where she continues to suffer at the hands of her mother and her aunts judgement. Katelyn, finally having enough, she stands up to her aunts, with the support of her father.
Brendan gets a reprieve, after his cousins had done some further digging, finding out the depths of Selena’s treachery, and the lengths she went to weave her web of lies and the manipulation that ensued. When the charges are finally dropped, Brendan goes to seek out Katelyn, only to discover that she is gone. When he goes to confront her aunt on her whereabouts, he encounters Cameron, who tells Brendan that Katelyn is pregnant, shocked and hurt that she didn’t tell him, but more so that she sought comfort with him. Cameron boldly tells Brendan on his plans with Katelyn, but Brendan isn’t having a bar of it
Brendan then seeks out Katelyn, and there reunion is bittersweet, he is overjoyed at her being pregnant with his child, even though he thought he would never get his chance an happiness, in love and life, and then he takes her home, to there home
Then Brendan finds the perfect moment to propose to Katelyn, and she accepts
There wedding magical, with there family and friends by there side
There life complete with there son Declan, there life incredibly full, because he finally dared to dream
There story is of new beginnings, finding ones self and confronting the past. Every character was delectable, desirable and down right soul piercing. This circle of family and friends is so close and tight nit nothing could break them apart.
Those s€x scenes in and out of the bedroom were downright erotic, the language and dirty talk was filthy and such a turn on, dark, provocative, naughty, twisted, forbidden, emotional , wrong, intense, captivating, deliciously wicked, dirty, hot, steamy, passionate, possessive, powerful, wet, dominating and ferociously wild.
Such a roller coaster of emotions, a page turner, fast paced you literally will not be able to put it down. This author clearly knows how to write, a very well written story with our favourite characters, exploring dark and intense themes that will have you saying what the f@#$. Readers will be ensnared from the get go and it will have you coming back for more. And if you thought this author was done, she is not, so hold on as we anticipate what book four will bring us!
