The plot of this book was amazing. There were so many twists and turns that even I did not expect. I love vampire books and instantly fell in love with this. There were some grammatical mistakes and the ending was not that satisfactory. This is a great book to read if you like Crave, Twilight, or any other vampire book.

Technically this is a DNF as I've not read the last few chapters, but honestly I won't be buying this book.

Triggers for rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, death, blood, possessive relationships, slut shaming, toxic relationships. Probably more but those were the worst.

I read this on Wattpad, and the last handful of chapters are not there as part of the authors agreement with their publisher.

Honestly, this book was a wild ride. The overall premise was good, with the idea of vampires and other supernatural creatures making their way to the forefront of society and vampires taking over and turning humans into chattel.

However, the book has been severely let down in the way it was written and the main character of the book. Claire is not like other humans (cliche much). She's defiant and willing to argue against her vampire overlords. But she's so whiny and horrible. There were many times were I wanted her to die so I didn't have to continue reading it anymore.

The relationship between her and Nicklaus was almost instalove due to the "beloved" pairing of them, and it was really badly done. The relationship between them wasn't believable and I could see where so many elements of this book was going. The only thing I'm not 100% on was why Claire was so special. I thought jt was going to be something to do with her lineage and maybe a storyline where it turns out that she wasn't fully human but from one of the "twists" in the book it looks like that's not the case.

I had hoped the published version would have been polished over with an editor but from some of the reviews on here, I really don't think that's the case.

Additionally, Claire is constantly labelling other women as sluts because of how they dress or because of the fact they think someone's attractive. But it's okay for her to label every guy she seems as drop dead gorgeous and fantasise about them. It was hypocritical and honestly one of the main things about her that I really couldn't stand.

umm

I’m all about dark but this was too much too soon. Not to mention the girl was an idiot, she was not brave she was foolish, she made the most horrific choices and it made me want to shake some sense into her. Do not recommend

I liked this book because it came fresh from Wattpad. It’s a fun read with terrible, abusive male leads and horrible, atrocious grammar. Don’t go into this expecting a quality read…but you will leave having a pretty good time.

Where to begin? I really loved this fresh take on the much retold vampire love story. I loved the primary characters, and their journey from beginning to end. King Nicolas is a fantastic. I loved how he evolved but still remained true to himself. The same can be said about his queen. There are some secondary players that I found hilarious and intriguing, and would be interested in reading their stories. That said, I have to agree with many of the reviews that I have seen, the editing is non existent, which is sad, because it took away so much from the pleasure of just immersing yourself in the story. I am an elementary school teacher and the itch to grab my pen and start correcting grammatical errors, subject/verb agreements, consistent and correct tense use was overwhelming. I am glad I was reading on my Kindle, because if I had a paperback, I would have been liberal with the red pen. I hope that if Sondreen J continues this series, that this is address. That said, I would encourage you to try and see past the need for an editor, the story is worth it.

Too much

Plot was good, however, if you are using profanities don't replace letters with asterisks it's childish especially when the main characters are having descriptive sex. Also, story was a little too wordy and dragged on when it was unnecessary and there were spelling and grammar errors.

Okay so, I read this with a partner about two months ago and we both hated it, though she rated it a three out of five this is my review- look for Sarah Kenklin’s for a nicer one lol.

Also I’m sorry this ended up being so long.

( ._.)
/<🧋 here’s a snack.

With that being said, I had to do a lot of research for this review, so I went to the authors Wattpad, and even her website. I say this to say, I feel like I deserve this rant.

I hated this book so much- and I honestly think that this review would be too long if I said everything that I hated about it so I’ll just put why I took off every star and sum it up.

Before I will say the things that I liked:
1. I LOVED Mecca. She was written very beautifully.

2. The whole idea of the awakening- and the vampires coming from the shadows and taking over the wild. An even darker part of me liked how they recoded the entire thing I, though that was hilarious and petty.

3. The overall storyline was very well paced- I basically flew through the book. I do still believe that it could have been like two hundred pages shorter though.

4 And I mean, atleast she wrote a book right? I’ll give any author that much. ESPECIALLY self publishers, that really takes blood sweat and tears.

That’s all I have to say about things that I enjoyed. Now, onto why I hated it.

-1 star for punctuation and grammar. Definitely needed a beta reader or professional editor. I also think that it was really ironic that the author thought using asterisks to censor curse words would do something- because she then goes on to write out really explicit grape and humping scenes. ‘Twasn’t a fan.

-1 this book needed a full page of trigger warnings. Within the first five chapters you are introduced to a whirlwind of abuse, sexual abuse, and pedo behavior( I will get into that later).

- 1 because I said ‘So Vampire Diaries?’ like three too many times.

-1 For Claire. She was insufferable. Though I gave her a ton of lenience, she is technically a child in a world full of over emotional adult men who pretend they know what they are doing.

-1 for the boarder-line Pedo behavior and abuse. Other than the fact that I thought we left 18 year olds dating ancient men in 2013, It said at one point that Nicklaus saw her file and knew that she was his beloved as soon as he saw her picture, which was crazy to me because then I had a flash back of him slinging her around on that stage. Then the little bit where Jadis was given to that one king as a child but they still hump like rabbits??

And Xander and her mom??

Also -1000 for grape for shock value still being a trope because what were those humping scenes?? I’m not a grape victim so I may be reaching, but there’s no way in HELL, beloved or not, you are going to let someone slam into you like that after having been graped and abused for YEARS afterwards, EVER even, not like a week later (and that’s if I’m even getting the timing right it really could have been like three days).

-1 I hated how POC were treated through out the entire series (From what I’ve seen so far), and is one of the biggest reasons why I absolutely will not be staying around to read any of her other books. As a black person I feel like the author either hates herself or other black people.

The POC women are deemed as plot villains. And I say plot villains because they are only villains to further the plot. Mecca, (also, ain’t that name a bit insensitive?) for example.

Mecca was literally tortured for the better part of a century by Claire’s bf, TOLD CLAIRE THIS, and Claire was like ‘Damn that’s tuff…..’ then pulled the betrayed card when Mecca tried to kill her for becoming a Vamp??

Also the others usually act the way they do because they are trying to survive??

King Cyrus from what I’ve seen told his black counter part she was going to be queen (From what I’ve seen, I only skimmed I was too angry to actually read.) just to be like sike. And I know Aubrey or whatever ended up being his Beloved, but he didn’t even tell her (the commander and his ex, I can’t be asked to go find her name again), she had to find out through the grape vine and I mean, who wouldn’t be mad??

And the Lycan queen literally was at war, why would she be nice to Claire? Or Embry for that matter?

And a personal gripe I have, why are the kings of Asia, Africa, and South America Caucasian?

I cant be asked to remember the rest just go and look at the casting the author has on wattpad it’s ridiculous.

- Don’t even get me started on Baretta. She sucks! Fu*ks! And fights! You better not forget that! Because she certainly won’t let you, promise.

-10000000000000000000 because she gets pregnant. That actually hurt my soul. I was like “poor baby.” Referring to Claire AND the baby(ies?).

And I know that that is a lot more than five stars, the math definitely is not mathing but I don’t care. I got angry while writing this. Don’t read this book if you are looking for a serious book. Let alone the series.

The story was overall entertaining.

I really enjoyed the characters, and the story itself, however, a proof reader is definitely needed. There were some autocorrected words and the punctuation was a bit off.

4/5 ⭐️

The plot was amazing. However, the characters got together too fast. They got together at the half mark point. I personally like the banter cause that’s the entertaining stuff. After they got together it was boring for a good 4-5 chapters. Nonetheless, the plot twists at near the end makes it worth the read. I can’t believe this book is free on wattpad. Honestly, it’s one of the best books there. Nonetheless, I don’t really like the ending. It was kind of abrupt and I wish we were given a proper ending. Though I must say, the author is extremely talented and this book is really good! I definitely recommend it!

Grammar

The book overall was well done, I loved the characters and the plot twists. The issue for me is the lack of editing, there is a multitude of spelling and grammatical errors throughout the book. I first found this book on wattpad and fell in love with it so when I saw the author published it I had to get it, but the same errors that were on wattpad remained here. The book other than that is very well done I just wish someone would have proof read this instead of publishing it and fixing the errors

had high hopes that were dashed early on

The story started out so great, though it was really, really rough to read with the horrors that happened. So I’m thinking this girl with all the trauma she endured and hatred she rightfully had was going to be totally badass but not even 15% of the way in she’s like, so he’s enslaved and murdered my race, murdered a girl in front of me to teach me a lesson…wow, isn’t he hot! Seriously? She is so guilty that this girl died and he rendered her frozen while telling her it’s her fault and that’s not what she sees when she looks at him? Yep, I had to stop reading because it was kind of disgusting. I really wish someone had left this review so I hadn’t had the misfortune of reading any of this book.

Awesome storyline..

Awesome storyline & I really enjoyed it. Although there are a few spelling mistakes & grammatical errors, but those become negligible once you get the grip on the storyline

It’s a DNF for me so no rating..since the last chapters were not available.
For me it wasn’t worth it to pay the money to find the rest of the story. I imagine they lived Happily for eternity and park it like that!

The storyline was good-but would have been better if an editor was hired, at the very least- maybe even rewritten by someone with some actual skill. I’m only giving it a 3-star for the story line.

I was extremely disappointed with the terrible writing style, annoyed by the excessive grammatical errors, horrible formatting, improper of use of punctuation and so on. The world building needs a major makeover, the characters were okay, but the author did a terrible job with them. The descriptiveness of people, places, and things lacked almost entirely. There was no showing, just poor telling. This story was all over the place. Like the terrible “first draft” of an amateur.

At first I felt like I was reading through the eyes of a young adult somewhat mature but traumatized. Fair enough given her upbringing. Then Claire seemed to get more and more childish. Like is this a cartoon script?? A music video portraying a messed up brat? Then I felt confused with her personality as a whole because one minute she is all sexually mature, then the next she’s is all “gosh this and gosh that”. She didn’t come across as “fit to be queen” at all. She sounded like a troubled, uneducated 13 year old. She had absolutely no queen traits.

And wtf is with the asterisks? Why is she cursing one minute then oh goshing in the same sentence? It’s like this writer just wrote what she was thinking and didn’t pay attention to the actual writing.

Even the “about the author” section was awful. It sounded so made up, almost fraudulent, and she tried way to her hard to boast about her writing/characters which wasn’t true at all. This section alone made me
Feel like I was being scammed! She claimed she has touched millions of hearts - how? This book was terribly written

I think this is by far the longest review I have ever wrote. I’m a seasoned vampire fan, so I felt the need to point all this out … really this should be 2 star ONLY because the story had potential

Good read

This book reads really quick and it is a page turner. My only issue is that there are a lot of errors with the wrong words being used in many places. For example in one spot the correct word should have been nose but was replaced with noise. I think the author must have been using autocorrect when writing the story and didn’t correct the mistakes before publishing.
