Great insights from an amazing and inspirational leader and writer. It's a pocket book that works magic at lunch to stir your ideas how to lead and equip others better. I liked a lot of great ideas from this book, some of them:
- "Nothing of significance was every achieved by an individual acting alone. Look below the surface and you will find that all seemingly solo acts are really team efforts." (p.3)
- take time to equip your people and they will multiply your leaders.
- "Good leaders deliberately seek out and find potential leaders. Great leaders not only find them, but transform them into other great leaders. They have an ability to recognize ability and a strategy for finding leaders who make it happen. That's what takes their organizations to the next level." (p.55)

This book is pretty good. Lots of solid ideas that are easy to apply. I really liked how Maxwell illustrated the different steps to take for empowering leaders around the organization. He explicitly teaches how to be supportive.

Deducting 2 stars because there is a lot of repeated mentions from Maxwell’s other works. For example, Maxwell uses the aircraft carrier metaphor again to illustrate the vitality of teamwork and how everyone should do a role with precision. It’s a good metaphor applied from his previous book, Teamwork 101.

If you are a leader and interested in learning about leadership, mentoring, helping your team grow, or just growing in general, John Maxwell's books are a must. This one is no exception. As leaders it's our responsibility to equip those we lead, and as he always does, John takes the topic, uses quotes, anecdotes, and statistics and not just makes a compelling argument (which he does) but inspires you to help equip those you lead.

Finished as book 7 of the 101 Collection! 4.5 stars, rounded down. Honestly not as applicable as some of the other books in this collection for me, but I can tell that it’s definitely going to be one I appreciate more as my leadership opportunities grow :D

Personally, I think if you're going to read a leadership book from John Maxwell start with Developing the Leader Within You, Developing the Leaders Around You or the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Whilst there isn't necessarily anything wrong with Equipping 101, I believe Maxwell has written more educational and deeper books on equipping leaders than this.

It's a lil book that's full of nuggets, you literally can finish this so quick. I love John Maxwell & all his leadership books, it's relatable & you can tell that he writes it in light of Gods word like unity & teamwork. Leadership & servanthood & so on & so forth.

This is my second book by John Maxwell. Similar to my review of Mentoring 101, I was taken aback that this book had nothing in particular that is distinctively Christian which makes it odd given how it's promoted so much among Christian circles. Other than Maxwell stating that he was a successful pastor in the book with the largest church in his denominiation, there's nothing explicitly Christian or Biblically driven here. I find that especially odd since his occupation was ministry when he first made a name for himself in leadership. The book has a story about how when he was a pastor he told his staff that the goal of the church is to grow to one thousand or else they will be losing their job. This is the kind of business CEO model of ministry that Phil Johnson in the 2013 Shepherd's Conference preached against, with their pragmatically short sighted goal post. No doubt Maxwell is an ambitious man but I wonder how healthy it would be to implement his principles for the ministry. Any good principle on equipping (which he calls the training of leaders) found in the book is rather simple and common sense. The book also has a lot of repeating materials from Mentoring 101. I don't plan on reading a third book by Maxwell anytime soon.

This is the fourth book I have read by John Maxwell and have learned something from all, this particular one to me focuses so much on team work and how important it is. He states how you can not find one "act of genuine significance in the history of mankind" that was done alone. His writing is so powerful, educational, and motivational. I own 4 of the What Every Leader Needs to Know series and have now read all. I would love to keep reading them and strongly suggest them to other readers. There are so many things you can learn from these books specifically this one to me about your skills in team work and personally and how to make them better.

Another great little book from Maxwell on "equipping" or training leaders. I love how maxwell consistently teaches his readers to focus on adding value to other people. His message is always "other" centered instead of "self" centered. This book follows that same theme in that its all about finding, developing and leading other leaders on your team. Among other things Maxwell covers: How to invest in your team, What a potential leader looks like, and How to enlarge or add value to others. I recommend this book along with all the others from the 101 Series for leaders.

Taught me that if I don't give people the means to succeed then they just won't; this meant I need to give more tools and be less stingy about how I do things. Written in his usual style ... Mr. Maxwell's ideas concerning the topic of "equipping" or training are presented with both humor and thought provoking anecdotes. This makes for an extremely easy read and the stories are easy relate to. Lots of good definitions and useful directives.
