Some guys are just undateable.

Look, I’m all for romance novels, but life doesn’t always work out like it does in a book. Friends don’t usually turn into lovers, fake dates don’t often become more, and billionaires rarely have carved abs. I’m not a negative Nelly; I’m just a realist. As a friend and a co-worker to Gavin Sexy Pants Clements, I fit firmly in the

“undateable category.” When he asks me to be his pretend date for his sister’s engagement party, I’m positive there’s no way this night will lead to a happy ending. But I’m his friend, so I say yes.

Then I learn the secret to how friends can become lovers…

NOTE: Gavin and Savannah’s romance first appeared as a short story in Instant Attraction, a free collection that was offered in September 2019. Their love story has been updated, expanded and added to the Happy Endings world! I hope you enjoy their novella!

wow that was... forgettable.
H and h have been working together for a couple years. For some reason H never noticed Savannah in 'that way' for the 6 months before he starts dating some other chick who has no sense of humour.
The H gets dumped by the humourless woman just before the story starts.
But he needs a date to a wedding and doesn't want his mother setting him up with anyone. So he asks Savannah to pose as his girlfriend...
The H does feel puzzled that he never realized before what a great catch Savannah is.
Savannah on the other hand, has been secretly crushing on his stupid ass since they first met.
Why didn't she say anything then? Well I can understand why not, if he shows no signs of interest.
Nothing really happens except the stupid H finally opens his eyes and we get an HEA.
I liked that he feels bad he didn't notice Savannah before, but it bothered me that he worked with her for 6 months and ends up dating a woman who is Savannah's opposite. AND... he doesn't have the intelligence to dump her first, but gets dumped instead. So how many more years would the doofus have kept dating the ex before he realized he didn't even like her?

Not bad, but it was barely a short story. It’s a “novella”, but I just didn’t feel the friendship with yearning for love, it moved too quickly to get a bead on the characters and their feelings for one another. It felt like more telling than showing. Again, not bad and fake-dating is one of my favorite tropes, but it moved WAY to fast, from first fake-date to proposal.

2, it needed more meat on its bones, stars.

Short But Sweet.

Everyone loves a happy ending! And this sweet romance has a great HEA. They go from friends, to fake dating then real dating quickly, but when you know…you know.

This is purely a standalone novella in the Happy Endings series and best read before Book Two, as one of the besties will be in that story.

Undateable- A Lauren Blakely Novella

This is a very short 60 page novella, a fluffy and angst free easy read in an hour or so. Gavin is looking for a fake date to take to his sister’s engagement party, just to keep his Mum off his back and setting him up with girls from her neighbourhood. In the IPA over a few beers with his best male friend Eddie and he’s telling him his problem. In walks Gavin’s Co-worker and best female buddy Savannah, they’ve worked together for over 2 years. There ya go, says Eddie, ask Savannah. I’m being half a star too generous here but hey, it’s a nice sunny Monday morning.

This is a quick read even by a novella’s standards but if it went any longer at the rate it did I probably would have DNF’d it.

Problem for me was, it’s too quick with no depth to the storyline and thus the relationship between the male and female characters. They have worked together for years but because he’s been broken up with his girlfriend for a couple of months he hadn’t ‘noticed’ his colleague. With the GF out of the way, and with the suggestion they fake date to his sisters engagement party to get his mother off his back, it’s all of a sudden goo-goo eyes. Seemed more like she was close by, and low hanging fruit rather than any real connection. And Savannah was happy to take him under whatever circumstances since she’d crushed on him forever.

Gets a star because there was a happy ending.

This was short, but sweet. I liked both of the main characters, their friendship, and the glimpse into the history of their friendship.

Just keep in mind, it’s a novella so don’t expect a more in depth romance since it wraps up pretty quickly. It’s not insta love, but pretty close to it since we have more of tell vs a show of why they fall for each other.

I would still recommend it since it was a quick, lighthearted, and fun read. I’d recommend catching it on sale since it’s a novella.

This is an cute novella in the Happy Endings series. It is very short, about two friends who become lovers. Because it was so short, it didn't have as much character development as I usually like, but it was enough to like the couple. It gets 4 stars from me.

Gavin and Savannah were likable, and I liked that they worked on becoming better friends for a while before having sex. They were attracted to each other, but thought they shouldn't act on it until they knew each other better -- because they didn't want to risk it turning into a short fling. They both wanted a long term relationship, and were smart enough not to rush it.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

My shortest book to date! Wow. If I thought the last story was quick then I hadn’t read a book that was like a children’s length. There is a such thing as too quick, and this one took the cake. What could have been a longer story, gets compacted into 46 pages. I was disappointed in that aspect. Lauren pretty much skims over the whole building of the relationship and goes straight to love and marriage. It felt too final for me and I wanted Savannah and Gavin’s relationship to be a gradual climb towards love. They fell too sudden and quickly, I wanted to read more of what fueled that. I do appreciate the to the point, no bullshit thoughts they expressed though. There was no games being played, no trying to prove anything, except Savannah in the first half. There was also no ill feelings about love and avoiding it. They just realized they liked each other later on in life, except Savannah who just re-opened her emotions to seeing Gavin in a romantic way. I’m giving this a 4 because again, the concept and story was good but it falls short to the 5 because of length and the way their relationship was written. Everything was too quick, sudden and didn’t feel believable. It felt like Lauren was just trying to get a quick story in about these characters we come across in passing throughout the “Happy Endings” series and kind of a disappointing way to end the series actually. I feel like this was it from this world, unless Lauren wants to explore Eddie’s woes.

I adore Ms. Blakely’s words.

Straight into the story, no messing around.

Gavin’s tiramisu loving Mother is intent on match making, as they’re prone to be. Manager at Glass Slipper Records, recently dumped, she’s intent on setting him up.

“I need the steel covering to protect myself, lest he realizes I once wanted more from him.”

Savannah’s a co-worker, running PR for a few acts. Over her own little crush on Gavin, she believes she’s undateable herself. They’re just friends after all.

“The butcher is knocking up Savannah on their wedding night. Go, meat man!”

Throw in best friend Eddie, for some inappropriate comic relief. Savannah’s own mother’s match making push is evident.😂

Lots of easy banter, a fake date with a sweet guy who needs a break, creates a fun novella. Short and engaging read.

What a fun and delicious quick listen this novella is. Lauren has the unique gift to create such a interesting and sexy story in just over an hour long. Savannah and Gavin are coworkers who go on a “fake date” just to eventually realize there is more to them than just coworkers. I loved how Savannah secretly was into Gavin, but did not pursue, just maintained a fun friendship. (A recipe for any great foundation in a relationship I think.) He is “Undateable”. But when Gavin asked her to accompany him as his fake date to an event, their intense chemistry starts to crackle. They decided to go on some dates for a while to see if the chemistry stays.
Brooke Bloomingdale did a fantastic job voicing Savannah’s open, friendly, and cheerful personality. Evan Parker has such an infectious upbeat personality throughout that fits Gavin perfectly.

Undateable is a fun contemporary romance by Lauren Blakely. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Blakely has given readers a well-written book filled with lovable characters. This book is written in first person, with alternating point of view, not my favorite format but the author makes it work in this story. Gavin's mother is attempting to fix him up and marry him off. Trying to keep from being forced into a date his mother sets up he asks co-worker and friend Savannah to be his fake date to his sister's engagement party. I love the dialog and humor in this book. Undateable is book 1.5 of the Happy Endings Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

Undateable is a fun novella that hits the spot for anyone who enjoys friends to lovers. Gavin and Savannah are coworkers/friends, so when he needs to take a date to his sister’s engagement party, taking her as his fake girlfriend seems like the perfect solution to keep his mother from trying to set him up. Not wanting to rush in or be the rebound, they build their friendship until the sparks fly. At just over an hour, this story is short and sweet with the great banter we know and love from Lauren Blakely. Evan Parker and Brook Bloomingdale bring the story to life with plenty of humor and heat. Lauren loves audio and it shows with every book!

Poor storytelling.
95% of this book was pure narration where the author simply tells the reader an droning monologue rather than shows any action. The premise starts out with some sense of realism (at least as much as can be said for a romance) but then degenerates to eyeroll-inducing fantasy. And the main male protagonist both acts and sounds like a shallow caricature taken from a teen girl's diary.
I almost gave this 2 stars because the writing was at least coherent enough that I was able to get through to the end but I partially rate on re-readability and I plan to never suffer through this again.

Undateable by Lauren Blakely is a fun short story about Gavin and Savannah. This fun and witty story of two people who slowly realize that their forever love is right in front of them is written so well. I’ve always loved Lauren Blakely’s writing style. Her characters are fun, witty, passionate, and have lots of love to give to family and friends. Brooke Bloomingdale and Evan Parker bring this fun, witty, and slow-burn to life. Both of these narrators are super talented with aural expertise. Loved it!!

Undateable is a novella in the Happy Endings series by Lauren Blakely.

This is such a fun, flirty, and adorable story! Gavin needs a date. Savannah agrees to be his date. Two friends going to one party isn’t a big deal. Except, he sees her in a different light and she knows he isn’t ready for real dates. Friend-zoned it is. Friend dates. Friend touches. Friends flirting the line of something more…

I loved it! I enjoy short and sweet. Short and delicious. And this is just that.

After Gavin’s girlfriend dumped him for another guy, he’s been avoiding getting involved, but now his mother is plotting another set up for his sister’s engagement party and he has to stop her at all costs.
Savannah has worked with Gavin for years now and, despite her crush on him, they’ve always been friends and when he needs a date to a party, she agrees to be his pretend girlfriend to keep his mother at bay.
Always love Ms. Blakely’s short stories. Whether it’s a prequel or a short about an incidental couple, they never disappoint and sometimes they make for that short read one needs between heavy books. I really enjoyed Gavin and Savannah’s path to find their own HEA and highly recommend it.

Best fake date ever

For a novella, this is the person to write it.

Finding love is hard anyway, finding its with your best friend well that just gets better like the cherry on top.

For Gavin his fake date turned into more when he realized that his best friend and future was there all along. Savanah has crushed on him for so long but being friends and working together is complex. Hanging out with Gavin is never a chore but when love is in the air.

Cute friendzone novelette

Gavin and Savannah are friends and coworkers. When his mother attempts to set him up with somebody he asks Savannah to be his fake date but he is surprised by how not-fake it feels. A version of this story was published in an anthology previously. It's a no-angst quick read with some sexual content, not very graphic.

Un-Dating

What happens when you secretly like your best friend more than just friend? Why ..... you watch them date someone else, watch them break up and then go on a fake date. A short and sweet novela with no cheating or cliffhanger and you get the beginning of a happy ever after. Enjoy 🤓

This one is cute. But it exudes a novella vibe, if you know what I mean. Like a little bit character sketch and a snippet of backstory here and there. Even the steamy scene is almost fade to black. If Lauren Blakely’s goal here is to whet our appetite with the rest of the series, this sure got me curious.

This was cute and had potential to be so much more, but ultimately just cut short for me. I felt like the story for the characters could have been a little more detailed and their HEA just felt rushed and awkward to me. I just would have preferred their story be it’s own full book instead of a novella.

The usual novella stuff you can expect from Lauren Blakely. It exists, but there was really no need for it. To be fair, I have read worst from her and this one, although pretty much random, had its cute moments even though I thought the setup was weird like... I thought they were friends already??? But I guess otherwise there would have been even less of a plot lmao.

Short lovable story

A friendly fake date turns into a real feelings. Co-workers turn friendship into more in this short story in this series. I'm looking forward to more in this series.

Sweet and Cute

I love when a guy realizes that his best friend is the one for him. I was so happy that they kept building on their friendship before going to the next step. Friends always make the best livers in my opinion! Spicy was there but not a lot but still a great read!

I definitely wish this book was a little longer. But I honestly enjoyed the book. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time I was reading it. I only took me like an hour to read the entire thing. Maybe less. It’s a good book, if you read it. You would be doing yourself a favor.
