This book definitely found a darker place as jealousies are revealed in what is causing Rowen’s memory loss and mood swings. Surviving in Everton takes us on the roller coaster of emotions that she feels as she puzzles out what happened in the last 10 years that took her away from her friends and family.
The guys work together to get everything figured out.
The relationships are complicated and the heat is hot in this book. I love seeing Rowen play the brat so well, and explore her sensual side. It was also fun to see how much the guys adore her. There are powers that are also growing, and it was interesting to see how that impacted their relationships.
Triggers: Spanking, child neglect, Daddy kink
There is a really fun HEA for Rowen and the boys as this is a duet. I can’t wait to read more of Quinn’s story !
WOMAN! YOU DID IT AGAIN! I laughed, I cried, I had to wipe my gooey heart up off the floor and I loved it. Surviving In Everton picks up immediately where Returning to Everton left off (you know, that major cliffhanger) and throat punched me all over again. But we got answers! And solutions! I don’t want to give too much away, but YES, I was so satisfied with how things were resolved. This book is emotional, but Scarlett really brought the heat. Declan, Hudson, Ayden, Nate and Kayden are still sexy and supportive and all around wonderful (in and out of bed). I don’t even know if I have a favorite anymore. Except maybe West ;) I thoroughly enjoyed getting more Violet and Logan in this book, honestly some of their scenes are my absolute favorite. They are so cute and I can’t wait to see them grow into their own stories. I know this isn’t goodbye to Rowe and the guys and I look forward to picking up with them again soon!
My LAWHD!!!! The ending of the last book was cruel, and this book picks up right where the last one left off, with Rowe getting some horrible news. If you were worried that the news would be a downer on this book and destroy the heartwarming, happy, and funny vibes that were in the last book, fret no more because that is not the case. While it does have moments of being sad and serious it absolutely has all of the joy that you expect from reading the first book. I loved this duet and I am so excited to read the next duet especially because it features Quinn.
Love this world and all the characters. Can not wait for Quinn and her story, but most of all I hope to see a RH with Violet and definitely Logan in there.
I laughed I cried I raged. This book took a lot of emotional turns and left me wiping my face. I loved it so much and I can't wait to read Quin's story.
Well. There’s a lot of good and just a teeny bit of not so good. This is covering both duets. Just a head’s up. DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT ANY SPOILERS. ✋🏼🛑✋🏼🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I always appreciate a good solid duet or trio of books. I respect an author than can release all at once so that her anxious readers are able to read the stories! Some of yall have no idea how anxiety can affect reading. Cliffys without another book to read? 💩 🤮
The story and characters were fun to read. Although at times it felt like way too many men and never enough time fleshing out the deeper character bonds. I got enough to see the whole picture. I think the twins got the least amount of depth.
I loved the kids and their sweet friendship. Loved the parents and their kids relationships too. While everything was made to be a bit too perfect between kid and parent, I was ok w less drama on that side. Ya know?
And Rowen’s bff Quinn, who was almost cartoonish in her spastic craziness was still a good addition. I look forward to her books for sure. Their relationship was cute. And their antics made me laugh. But. Hope she calms down a bit bc I am not certain I can read two books full of her spastic nature. Then again, who am I kidding? I will read the hell out of her books. 🤦🏻♀️😂
I actually liked the crazy ass-bad girl, BB. She was fun to read. I liked that she couldn’t run over Rowan and the guys all hated her. She was easy to hate. 😂 I appreciated she was made to be a hot girl but that her insides made her so unappetizing to Rowen’s guys. Also glad she never hooked up w any. I would have put the book down over that. #catface 🐱
I also loved that the guys waited for her and never had girlfriends or got married. Some folks hate insta love books but this wasn’t like that. You get the history early on and parts unfold quickly. Since they had all been bffs for so long, they had plenty of sweet stories from the past. To me, it was nice to see they loved her and weren’t angry or bitter or mean towards her. After all the crap she had gone thru for ten years, Rowan deserved that.
I am SO GLAD there was no bullying from the men towards Rowan. So sick of that trope. Thanks to their past together the way to all unfolded worked for me.
There is a magic cancer aspect that unfolds. If that bothers you, know that it is fully resolved. As a cancer survivor I could see where the story was headed in the first book. But again, you do have a beautiful resolution of that part.
The sex scenes by book two got a bit repetitive almost like the author was sick of writing them and copy and pasted each time. But hey, it was still good. 😂
The adding on of two dominant men in the bedroom was odd to me. Felt like she was checking sex boxes for variety to hit every freak book out there. Normally that can work but it felt forced for me.
Maybe I just didn’t want a punishment spanker in the mix.
Nate, was our resident punishment spanker and hot headed, angry boy. And she had to call him SIR in the bedroom. I am not into men who “punish” their women for disobedience before sex. But I will still read the books. In this situation, after she had been spell drugged and dominated by an asshole husband, it was icky. Just. Yuck. Nate was already a short fuse dude. Why make him be the punishment spanker too? It didn’t work for me.
Declan 🥵was a Dom and she had to call him SIR or freakin DADDY in the bedroom. Belch. But at least that worked for me. Meaning-that he was a Dom. But the daddy shit? Ergh.
Not yucking any yum for yall but when you mix parents, young kids and this sort of daddy kink? Welp. It just didn’t vibe for me. But if you dig that then you have it in spades. It just gave me the heebee jeebees🤮
Again. All of that was kept in the bedroom. So the kids didn’t know or hear.
One last thing before we go. The ending was way too abrupt. For real. Engaged. And poof. End of story. On to quinn. It felt like someone stopped the movie before the ending at the theater and said, ok everyone go home.
So the teeny not so good was just my personal tastes. Which is why I still gave both books 4 stars. I don’t remove stars bc of a personal opinion on a topic. Not fair to the authors. Esp bc this WILL appeal to others!
Overall it was an awesome story and duet of books. Highly recommend!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was between giving this duology 2 or 3 stars, I ended up choosing 3 because in the end the characters (although sometimes annoying) were pretty sweet. However there were definitely issues that could’ve made this a 2 star series.
**SPOILERS**
Book one introduced up to newly widowed Rowen and her 5 year old daughter, Violet. There is a lot of back and forth phone calls between Rowan and her best friend Quinn. Rowan has been confused about what to do now that her husband is gone, but Quinn helps to convince her to MOVE BACK HOME, to her hometown of Everton. Apparently everyone in Everton uses magic, and Rowan was living in a “norm city” a.k.a. a city where people don’t have magic, like her deceased husband. Rowan is convinced that moving back to Everton is a good idea, and teaching her daughter in a magic town would be good for her. But she’s anxious about returning home and seeing her “guys” - her best childhood friends, Hudson, Nate, the twins, and eventually Declan who is renting her his huge house since he and his son live with the guys.
I really didn’t like how this book portrayed magic. It was so “slight” and small it was as if it wasn’t there at all. The book reads almost exactly like a contemporary RH WITHOUT the magic elements - the magic “towns” are never explained. The reason why some people gave magic and others dont isn’t explained, it’s just so random!
In Surviving Everton (Everton Ever After Book 2), the book open with Rowan having just discovered that she has a magical brain tumor caused by her norm husband DRUGGING her with potion laced tea for TEN YEARS!!! The continuous potion using caused a build up of too much magic in Rowan, thus giving her a tumor which made her lose her memory AND could prove fatal!! The guys are determined to keep this from happening and they go on a “mission” to figure out WHAT TYPE OF POTION, and WHO MADE IT so that they can create a counter-potion to cure Rowan.
Ugh! Brittney was terrible, she was terrible as Rowan’s arch nemesis (as in, her character was written quite poorly) AND it was beyond OBVIOUS THAT SHE WAS THE BAD PERSON WHO MADE THE POTION THAT ROWAN’S HUSBAND USED TO CONTROL AND MAKE HER LOVE HIM!!! Sadly there was absolutely no “mystery” and it was horribly predictable! Another slightly annoying thing: I liked violet’s character, BUT she literally uses the word mommy EVERY time she speaks. Sorry even my kids didn’t drop in mommy everytime they spoke to me, even at that age.
Overall it’s an okay book. Easy to read, sweet, with some steam, and nicely written (if not a bit bland) characters.
Do any of you remember the TV show Bewitched? You know the one I’m talking about, the one with our sweet stay at home mom Samantha and her cute little daughter Tabitha?
Rowen and Violet from the Everton Ever After series remind me of Samantha and Tabitha both with their magical abilities, and sweet mother daughter dynamic they have going on. There is also the oh so relatable down to earth feel of the story. Rowen and Violet will grow on you instantly and you’ll be hooked once you meet the amazing men that come back into her life.
That being said… I need to warn you…. Prepare yourself ladies, you’ll be fanning yourselves after getting a taste of the 🔥🔥🔥🔥 that exists between and each and every one of Rowen and her guys! Scarlett took it to a whole new level in this one, I didn’t think it could get any hotter, but boy oh boy was I proven wrong.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s discuss. 😍
Surviving in Everton picks up right where Returning to Everton left off with our major mic drop plot twist that may or may not have had some of us throwing our reading devices. 🤷♀️
Fret not my friends, Scarlett will skillfully distract you with the undeniably adorable dynamic that is Logan and Violet… Guys…these two grew on me soooo much. I love these littles and what they bring to the story. They have this undeniable bond that really sucks you in. I’m SUPER intrigued to see where things go.
Then there’s Quinn and the unconditional support she offer Rowen all while navigating her own life. We are introduced to the mysterious West, who I need to learn so much more about.
Lastly, we cannot forget the developing relationships between Rowen, Hudson, Nate, Ayden, Kayden, and Declan all while unraveling a mystery. There really is just SO much that happens in this book! While Rowen and the guys are given a Happily for now, the story is just getting started. This book sets so many different plots into motion and I'm so excited to see how it all plays out!
If you haven’t already you really need to jump on board and dive into Returning to Everton and Surviving in Everton by Scarlett Phillips.
I didn’t think it was possible, but I may have enjoyed this book more than the first one! I know, call me crazy but there was just so much going on and Rowen and her guys were just moving right along with their relationship. It all just came so easy to them and that made everything so enjoyable, there wasn’t any bickering or jealousy and any doubts or fears the guys may have had, Rowen was sure to let them know that she was there for them all. I’m so glad that the magical tumor was taken care of, I don’t think I would have been able to stand waiting for another book to come out and figure out what happens. I’m so glad that it all worked out because I think I would have had a panic attack if they didn’t. Rowen didn’t deserve what happened to her with Harris and I’m glad the guys all acknowledged that, put her to ease and the helped figure out how to help her get better. They never once questioned if this was going to be worth it. Then with Violet, I learned things about her that I didn’t expect, they were shocking to me. I mean, I should have seen that coming and I guess I did have my suspicions so I can’t wait to read more about her. The guys relationship with her is beautiful, I think though that my favorite part for her is he very end. I don’t want to ruin it in my review so you must go read it but it’s so freaking sweet, I think my heart might have melted some. I was really worried for Rowen; she had so much going on with her that I also worried about the guys and how everyone was going cope with what was happening. Heck, I had a hard time coping lol. The guys took it in stride, and they made her the center of everything, they didn’t shy away when she lashed out or really started to have mood swings. They stuck by her and showed her that there wasn’t anything that was going to make them give up on her. I know I will be thinking about this book for a few days, talk about a serious book hangover but totally worth it. Can’t wait to see more from Rowe and her guys, I know that there must be more to come. Can’t wait for Quinn either, I knew there was something going on there with West!
Rowen's story continues after that doozy of a cliffhanger that we were left with at the end of Book 1. She has a lot to deal with picking up where it ended. Her life hangs in the balance, and it is a race against time to find the cure. I am so jealous of how the guys in Rowen's life surround her with their devotion. She is one lucky leading lady. I finally get to fulfill my playhouse fantasy vicariously through Rowen, and it did not disappoint! Like I said in my Book 1 review: magic playhouse. Everybody needs one! ;) There is some good humor sprinkled here and there that had me giggling to myself, and the steam gets fairly steamy. Nate's personality really stood out to me in this book as the growly alpha of the group, yet he may surprise you with his sweetness. Ayden and Kayden are the ornery ones of the bunch. Declan's accent speaks for itself, and Hudson is the sweet provider/protector of the group. Violet tries to steal the show with her sweet and sassy self. Logan gets some air time in this book too, and I hope we see a future story about Violet and Logan all grown up someday soon. And West! Oh West, I'm aching for your story with Quinn!! Keep writing the stories, Scarlett, and I'll keep reading them!
🦋Amazing/Hot/Funny/Emotions It was a very bumpy ride.
🦋We started the book in the same place book 1 ended. We get to navigate all of the emotion with Rowen. How she try to be strong for her daughter even when she is breaking down in silence.
🦋Violet is very mature for her age and is so in tune with everything that is happening with her mother. She just want to be there for her and make it easy for her.
🦋love Violet so much and Logan they are so sweet and they gave us something sweet and funny when the story was hard and heavy. It was an amazing balance.
🦋We get the perfect amount of plot/twist/secrets/turns/betrayal/sex/steam/emotions/love. It was perfect.
🦋Quinn story line and development gave us something to look foward and it was very intriguing. I can't wait to read about her.
🦋I love Quinn so fucking much she is the best friend any woman would want to have.
🦋Rowen has a lot of things that she didn't have the control. They are really stresing her out so she seek for the guys to help her feel in control.
🦋The guys were amazing with here. They were there for here searching and helping her to get better. It was really interesting to see the dynamic between them and Rowen since the were practically living together.
🦋The sex scenes OMFG they were HOT AF.
🦋I felt a lot of emotions with this book I got to conect with Rowen in a deeper level and she and Violet got me crying a lot. I love when books make me cry, angry or happy. Is so amazing when Authors writen in a way that you feel that everything is real and you can relate with the characters.
Book 2 starts where book one left off. We get questions answered and a couple for later books, too.
The 5 guys do what they can to not only find out what happened to Rowe, but teach and love Vi. Logan is right there for Vi, just like four of the MCs were for Rowe growing up. We learn secrets they all have been keeping, including the kids. We get lots of sexy time lol... Quinn is here too supporting and helping again too. We know her husband had been spelling her from book one and this book focuses on dealing with that. Who helped Harris? What did they use? What did it do to her? Will it have lasting effects? Can they reverse it before its to late? It also builds the relationship between all eight(5 guys two kids and Rowe). I love the fact the kids are not treated like they are after thoughts and that they play important parts in the story. Quinn and some hot hunks she has a thing for pop up, help out, and lead us to the next book hoping they stop beating around the preverbal bush.
Omg! This book was amazing! So cute and heart warming! First, I love the kids! Logan and violet were so adorable, intelligent, and mature for there age and I loved them!
The book ends on a very happy ending! Which I wanted so badly. The characters were well developed and made adult decisions to fix the problems they were facing. They did it together as a family.
I did catch quite a few errors and typos, but this shouldn’t stop you from reading this book!
The harem of males: Hudson, Declan, Nate, Ayden, and Kayden! 🔥🔥🔥 so sexy, yummy, and caring towards Rowan!
Sexiness: 4.5 out 5 - Holy moly Nate and Dec! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the setting, the magic, and wonder the author made in this book, in this small town. I really wished this was a real place to be honest.
I kinda want more of this cute family, but the author mentions at the end of this book Quinn gets her story.
At the end of the last book Rowen finds out that the long term magic use her husband was doing caused a brain tumor to grow on her frontal lobe. Surviving Everton picks up where the last book left off by having the readers wait with bated breath while the doctors conduct tests to see if the tumor is curable. The guys don’t just stand back and wait for an answer though. Together they work at hunting down the person responsible for hurting Rowen and refuse to admit defeat until they do. Though that is a simplistic version of the story (I didn’t want to give away any spoilers!), we mustn’t forget Quinn and West or Logan and Violet. All add to the story in their own way and honestly, I was reading it to find out about their stories just as much as I was Rowans. Great duet if you’re looking for over protective males who treat their woman like the center of the universe. I would consider this a sweet series though the guys can be a little bit naughty 🤭.
Surviving Everton is book two in the Everton Ever After series by Scarlett Philips. This story picks up right where the first book left off.
💜 sweet single mother FMC 💜 multiple sexy men 💜 mysterious magic 💜 🌶🌶🌶spice
Rowen has to figure out what she is going to do. What will she do with the news the doctor just dropped in her lap? What does that mean for her relationships with her men? What does that mean for Violet? Will she be able to bet this and be happy? Will she be able to beat this? Will this change her forever? So many questions to figure out. Sometimes it just takes a village to make things work and solve the problems that we face.
This is a sweet ending to the issues that Rowen faces. I really enjoyed everything that each of the characters bring to the table in this story. I can’t wait to pick up the next book to see what happens with Quinn.
Such a wonderful story!! Book 2 in the Everton Ever After series picks up after right after the cliffhanger from Book 1 with an emotional start that follows the emotional rollercoaster of the story.
I loved the balance of light hearted humor, a bit of mystery, and guys so sweet that you swoon throughout.
Surviving in Everton was a perfect mix of everything for me. Sometimes a light hearted read is everything and this definitely is one of my top 10 series for 2021!
Told in multiple POV from more than just Rowe and her men, there is something so amazing about seeing things from a totally unique perspective. Violet and Logan are so cute and kind, and funny as all kids are.
This book picks up where book one ended, with our FMC getting a serious medical magical diagnosis. I was glad despite the seriousness of it, It was dealt with with a light touch which didn't take away from the light read feel that I had enjoyed in book one.
There were a couple of things that weren't answered in this one which I was a bit disappointed by as this was the end of their story, though I believe they will be appearing in future books so I don't know whether these things will be answered.
I really liked Nate in book one but he seemed more angry than alpha in this one. I think despite them being friends for years they seemed to lack the cohesion I like to see as a harem. Hopefully they will grow as a unit as the story develops. It's hard to get to know everyone and give them appropriate time in two books whilst focusing on the FMC and the storyline.
I really liked the addition of West as a character and I can't wait to see more of him and Quinn. They were one of the highlights of this book for me.
This could have been a five star read for me, I'm pretty good at suspending belief but the kids just read way too old beyond their years to me. Book one I gave a bit more leeway with this but it was just pushed too much in this one. I know there was a lot of emphasis on it to try and make it believable but I couldn't get behind it.
Surviving in Everton by Scarlett Philips is part 2 of Rowen’s story and after the cliffhanger in part 1 I jumped right in. This is another sweet and funny RH romance luckily with a less “ohhh no” ending. Book 2 starts off right after the first one and we start to unravel everything that Rowen has learned at the doctors and what this means. The 6 adults work together to not only figure out what happened but how they can help and teach Violet. Secrets are revealed, mysteries are resolved, kids are included and there is even time for some spice. On top of all that we get a build up to the next duet, Quinn and her RH of men. I loved the book and it only made me ready for the next one! I highly recommend this to anyone interested. Awesome read to the author Thank You!
This book continues on from where we find out about what happened to rowen when she was married to Lord dufuss, I didn't expect the mystery to the how and why to be so obvious but not obvious if that makes sense.
Hudson, ayden, kayden, declan omg i dunno which one of them 4 I would like the most I mean dammm can I have them all
Violet and logan omg what an adorable pair of little ones and logan makes my heart melt the way he is with violet.
Sad to see this is the end but I'm. Hoping for a future book on what happens with logan and violet after they have grown up
This is book 2 and it’s a duology so no waiting around for the next one! It picks up where the first book left off. Rowe is learning about what Harris truly did to her during their relationship and who helped him. This book is very emotional. I have almost cried and laughed out loud a couple of times. We also get a little tiny bit of West. I promise you that it’s enough that you will be dying to know if we get a book that is all about him! The only thing that I was not completely enthusiastic about is there is a bit of a Daddy kink. (YKINMK). It wasn’t too much for me and I definitely didn’t hesitate to keep reading. This book is hot and HEA. I loved it and highly recommend.
This is book 2 of a duet and must be read in order.
The cliffhanger from the first book left my jaw on the floor. Luckily, the characters quickly find a way to move on. The character development in this book continues, as it turns out to be a key part of the trials the FMC faces. The development even from the side characters is quite critical towards the resolution. I really loved how we could see hints of how things were working towards the end.
Rowen’s HEA was amazing. It tied up so much from her past and her present. And I’m so glad we got hints towards Quinn’s books!
Story 📖: 5/5! Heat 🔥: 5/5- lots of yummy steamy scenes!
Good for the Soul I loooved this book. The love between Rowen and her men is just good for my soul. And I love the other characters in the book just as much. Quinn is the crazy best friend we all need. And the kids, Violet and Logan, stole the show more than once. I want to move to Everton and become a part of this amazing little town. This book had me feeling all the feels. Who would have thought a 5 year old could shred me. If your looking for an RH with a protective group of men, some mystery, lots of loaves and just lots of love and steam, you’ve come to the right duet 🥰🔥
We pick up right where book 1 ended and I swear my heart stopped when Rowan gets the news from the doctor. The guys reaction is heartbreaking, you can tell they all really love her and Violet. They all work on finding the counter spell Rowan needs. I swear these guys are so dang dreamy. I wish I had my own of each of the guys 😂 We also get to find out Rowans daughter has an extra special power!! Violet is just the cutest kid and she is so sweet!! The spice in this book is top notch 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Woo Boy!!! The ending of this book couldnt be more perfect. This series needs all the stars! If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for!! Go now and read it!!!!
This adorable RH story captured my heart from the start. The guys and Rowe fit together very easily as well as vi and Logan. It was interesting getting to see more magical variations of the characters and more explanation on what they can and cannot do with magic.
There was a lot of relationship development in book 2 but still a lot more to explore and I’m excited to get that after Quinn’s books.
Quinn is one of my all time favorite characters and I can’t wait to read her story next. I was hoping she would be with west from the time he was first introduced in this book. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed she gets her own RH too.
This book does start right after where book 1 ended. So if you haven't read book 1 it is a must to read that before picking this one up. Now that they know what the husband did to Rowe they are in a race against the clock to find the person helping him and to try and reverse the damage. But other things also come to the surfice like jealousy. Love how Rowe is searching for her true self and there is certainly darker themes here. Also a bit spanking and daddy kink but I liked that as it's not taking you away from the story. This book is part 2 of a duet but the story doesn't end as we'll see Quinn's story next. Can't wait for it.
Philips pulled out all the stops to finish this duet. She was able to pull you into her world and make you really feel for her characters. Unfortunately, we as the reader had to make it through some tough conversations and work our way through how we felt when we discovered some unsettling news.
I'd also like to point out that... I knew who it was all along!
There were a few things that I felt might be considered plot holes but considering there are more books in the series I am hoping they get tied up in future books.
“It’s so sad to let the guys go but the ending is worth the lost. So many things happened in this conclusion that I’m not even sure where to start. If the first book was a rollercoaster this second part was like a tsunami. Rowen and her men were absolutely perfect. We had secrets, mystery and some hurtful/jealous moments but everything happens for a reason and this wasn’t the exception. Back to Violent and Logan, please don’t hate me but can they please be together when grow up? Like please please lol. So now the heat, I’m not so into Daddy kinks and the whole BDSM thing so I didn’t enjoy it at all but aside from that them together was so H*T! Can’t wait for Quinn’s story!!”
Okay, this book was refreshing after reading a lot of dark themed books. Besides, I liked the small town setting with magic.
The reason I haven't given this 5 stars is because I felt the sexy scenes could have been better and some of them were really cringy. A scene towards the end, probably the author was going for something funny and that didn't hit right, was just weird. Also, I am disappointed we don't learn what happens to Emma. I hope that's addressed in Quinn's story. Also, the ending scene before the epilogue. The guys asked Violet, but they didn't ask Logan? (Not giving away spoilers, of course)
