Beautiful and adorable, that's Thor and Cassian. A romantic and exciting story embedded with a mysterious detective story involving the shifters.
The relationship is a little bit of everything, but I especially like the later part when it comes to the mating bond. This part is very lovely and really a bit unique, not sure if it really is, but I felt it was special.
The banter is perfect, there is plenty to laugh about. Unfortunately there's also a lot to cry about, I'm not sure if the dark part should have been so dark.
In any case, I like Thor and Cas so much, I'd like to cuddle them to death.

Kissing Thor became something I was determined to master. Every time I wrung a new moan or sigh from him, I took my time memorizing how to make it happen again, and again, and again. 💞🦔💞

Cas was different. The way he looked at me made me want to take charge, to hold him close, protect him, take care of his needs, his pleasure, all of it. I wanted to lay claim to Cas, and the way he looked at me said he wanted that too. 💞🦔💞

My only complaint, the book takes its time, but the ending feels half assed. Don't know what to make of it. Did they forget the epilogue here?

This had some enjoyable and cute parts, but also had some issues that bogged it down for me. With some editing, I think the story could have really shined more.

Things I liked:

The shifter family dynamic struggles: I liked reading about the shifter society and their rituals and expectations and such. I wish that had been explored more, especially after the weirdness at Thanksgiving.

Shifter science: There was some neat bits of actual science included in here for the shifters. It’s not something I see very often, which made it pretty unique. It was written at a level where it was science-y without being overbearing.

Shifter myths: This was neat as well - the myths and old fairytale type books that Thor was researching. The balance of this with the science blended well together for some intriguing background.

I would have liked both the science parts and mythology parts to be more expanded on though - these were very interesting world building (and important to plot!) and I felt like they got buried under other things.

Things I had problems with:

Would you please, please stop fucking: Once they mated, it felt like all they ever did was fuck. Constantly. Interesting conversations - like about important myths! - were interrupted in favor of banging. It also felt like the story leaned on making the sex stand in for emotional connection, and that didn’t quite work for me.

There was too much going on: By the end, there were so many threads going on that it felt really scattered as the story tried to address and wrap them all up. A mystery, family, romantic relationship, the friends, etc. Just so much.

The strangest plot thread(?) was that Cas played hockey. It didn’t matter, at all. It could have been any sport. It could have been any scholarship lost. It felt…yeah, just noise to me.

There was dual family drama/struggles, which again, could have been great for developing deeper connection, but ended up feeling glossed over a bit. Especially in favor of sex.

Time transitions were not well delineated: A small thing, but I got confused by sudden, not well marked time and location jumps. It was just another distraction from my reading immersion. Section breaks would have solved this.

Weird dated pop culture references: I will admit this tends to be one of my personal pet peeves, and may not bother others as much. There are strangely added pop culture references throughout the book, and rarely do they add to the story.

There’s a reference to the Brady Bunch (which aired in 1969, I googled it because all I know about it is that it was a tv show), to some comedian in the 90’s (unnamed? no idea what that was), I think a reference to The Good Place (have never seen it, but someone told me that’s what it was), Stephen King’s Misery, and then…A Christmas Carole. ???pls

These were extremely distracting for me, especially because I did not understand them (I am not even that babby? but 1970 is olden times now i am sorry to tell you)

Editing, typos, etc: This needed significant editing, both for length/meandering plot, and for the high number of typos/errors. Apparently some of these were fixed in the KU file, so that’s a good start.

Overall, while this had potential, it feels a bit more like a rough draft to me. With some refocusing on the more important plot threads, it would really showcase the authors talent.

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. All the opinions are my own.

MM Romance
Roommates/Fated Mates
3.5 Stars ⭐️

The author’s last name is fitting for this book because it was a bit strange at times. Previous reviews mention this book needing editing and I assume it was updated because besides the meandering plot that made things a bit drawn out, there were no spelling typos or huge grammar issues. Because of the length I did take breaks while reading this but I kept coming back because I really loved the main couple, Cassian and Thor. I also liked how different this was compared to other fated mate books because these two took the time needed to figure out if they wanted to be mates for life. It was all very mature instead of the usual love at first sight, bite my neck, vibe most have.

So, Thor is from a family of shifters but their inner beast is called a fauna and it comes about when you’re of a certain age but Thor’s never appeared and his family makes him feel like he’s broken because of it. His dad makes him research the old scriptures/lore for anything that can make it appear or why his genetics failed but besides doing that he’s also a busy college student. Thor doesn’t want to be tied to his family forever so he decides to get a roommate to squirrel the money away to leave after graduation. He rents out a room to a hockey player named Cassian who had some scandal happen last year and is just trying to get by. These two become really good friends and their relationship gradually turns into more. They hit some roadblocks along the way but they’re it for each other.

I liked that this book showed how their relationship progressed from roommates to friends to more and we saw every stage of it. It really helped me care about both characters and they were together for most of the book instead of just being together at the very end. I really enjoyed being a part of their journey and seeing both of them grow as characters but also accept each other unconditionally. Once Cas gets on board with the fated mate aspect, this book becomes quite steamy and I loved how Thor’s true alpha nature came out.

There is a mystery woven through this book and it brought secondary characters into it that I really liked. Leda is Thor’s friend and she also works in a lab studying shifter dynamics and I found all the shifter info pretty fascinating at times because it’s stuff that is never discussed in other books. Then we have Cassian’s friend Lucy who I liked as well. She was a really good friend to Cas and I just really liked her.

But this wasn’t perfect. The mystery woven through this book is quite predictable since only one name is ever mentioned. There were some storylines that kind of fizzled out like the situation with Benson and that’s not an acceptable thing to let him get away with. It should have had more resolution. Also, Thor’s dad has a big role in this book but that storyline also dissipated and this book ended so abruptly it made my head spin. I thought I had more book because it was only 90% when it ended but the rest was snippets of this author’s other books. I think this was done because this is a newer author and if this hadn’t been such an abrupt ending, I wouldn’t have cared much because it was a long book. This is minor but I have no idea why Cassian was a hockey player because it had no effect on the plot one way or the other. It was just kind of a random choice and made me wonder if it was a ploy to try to reel in more readers because most of us MM readers are whores for hockey players. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But despite my issues, I enjoyed Cassian and Thor as a couple, they just made this book sing and it made me forgive this author for the abrupt ending and the fizzled plot points. If I had rated this a few days ago when I finished I’d have probably rounded down to 3 stars but after the shit I’ve read this weekend, I realize now how much I actually enjoyed this book, how unique it felt etc and I’m giving a generous 4 stars. 💗

Also, I didn’t see this cover before I started this book and I’m thankful for that because it’s a bit off putting. Just a bit. 🤣

"I could tell the first time we touched,” I told him, rolling my hips to press against his hot body. “I felt it again, every time you came home from practice—sweaty,” I grabbed his ass, squeezing tight. “Glowing.” Beautiful. “I felt it when you carried me home from that awful party. Felt it when I kissed you. I knew.”

I absolutely adored Cas and Thor, I just know Im going to think of them often.
Cas took his bi awakening perfectly and explored things (alone) before trying with Thor.

"So, I decided to take my ass for a solo flight before I invited anyone else into the cockpit" 🤭

I loved how They took the mating bond SO serious and took their time to fall in love. They snuggled weeks before even kissing. AND OMG tingly asf when they did mate.

Multiple times, Cas cleans or takes off Thors' glasses when he sleeps. I CANT TAKE THE SWEETNESS. my ovaries exploded!!! If you wear glasses, you know.

The mystery of who was murdering/kidnapping the shifters was obvious, BUT the reasoning why I didn't expect. Pretty juicy.
Thors family can suck a fart. I felt bad for his dad, tho. Damn the ending was brutal.
There is an SA TW. Thor gets kidnapped and is forced to give a cup of cum to a scientist.

I really love the cover.
I didn't like the time jumps.

Spoilers on Thors Fuana

" I filled my camera roll with stupidly cute hedgehog pics. My favorite by far was one where I put Thor in a mug and pretended to take a sip for a selfie. His little face looked so grouchy in the picture that I immediately made it the lock screen background on my phone."
I WANT THAT PICTURE!

“Am I dying?” Thor clucked, looking at the bite. “Don’t be so dramatic.” “That’s rich, coming from the guy who spent forty-eight hours as a hedgehog because he was a little embarrassed."

Time of stoppage, 21%

I cannot get past the editing issues and the fact that the story really does not make much sense. I mean, come on, Thor is scared of his shadow yet he breaks into a morgue?

This one also had the same weird shifter world where each person had a different animal (or fauna) like the walrus shifter story. I hated the way the walrus was treated and seeing what Thor went through did not help me with wanting to read this at all.

What a breath of fresh air this paranormal romance is

Well, that was a cool and unusual way to write a shifter paranormal-based story.

I loved the take on how shifters got their second form and that it wasn't a case of this family is X type, this lot were Y. Instead, each person's unique form usually appears around the time they hit puberty.

Poor Thor's never did and he's been treated like a bit of a spare part ever since. When he meets Cassian though, his life takes an unexpected turn as they slow burn their way from friendship to boyfriends.

Of course, there's complications, Cas is human for one and has now idea there's such a thing as shifters or that he's Thor's mate.

Cas thinks he's straight, until he slowly comes to appreciate that not only does he find Thor attractive, but he likes doing things for him, like cooking and vegging on the couch together.

He also likes it when Thor kisses him and his whole bisexual awakening happens with a bang.

These two were the cutest together, and also pretty steamy. They're college age but it never feels like it's two immature young men, instead both of them have had experiences which have given them a heavier outlook on life.

The mystery element of this book is also done well and, while I'd clocked the ultimate "bad guy" fairly early on, the reasons for the scheming eluded me right until the end.

I do think that there needed to be more of a wrap up with what happens to one of the plot lines but it's possible there may be more in book two.

My only real niggle over the book as a whole is that I feel it needed better formatting.

At times there should have been much clearer scene breaks so it was obvious the action had moved on elsewhere or that time had passed without it being made obvious.

Otherwise I very much enjoyed my visit to this particular world.

Cute with an interesting shifter perspective. The mystery and the villain were a bit too obvious. Plus the second part of the book dragged for me a bit instead of picking up pace. The MCs were likable but suffered from a slight case of miscommunication here and there. Overall, I liked the writing style and would possibly read this author's future efforts.

this isn’t bad. however it needed editing. 400 pages is a lot for this. it focused a lot on useless things and (way too much) sex. the shifter thing was fun and we could’ve explored it more. there were a lot of things that needed more time, like the useless hockey career, and there were definitely some things left unresolved

Wildly entertaining and adorable. It does suffer from some pacing issues and minor unresolved family bullshit but the story doesn’t suffer for it. I really enjoyed this and caught myself smirking a lot. Cassian and Thor are just to lovable, so even though this isn’t perfect, it gets such a high rating cuz it was just all around a good time :)

One thing I’d like to note about myself now though, is I actually struggle a bit with the whole “alpha” thing in shifter romances (which, how do you avoid if you enjoy shifter romance) due to how psychotic the right wing extremist men have become with calling themselves Alphas and kind, non-bigoted men Betas. Barf.

3.5 stars, happily rounded up. This book is very fun, and I had a very good time reading it. I was offered an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I very much enjoyed the author's book A Walrus and a Gentleman, and read the sneak peek of this book at the back of that one and have been eagerly anticipating this story.

The tone here is different from that book, a little lighter, a bit more wacky, and of course we have the mystery element, but I was definitely in the mood for what this story provided. The caretaking between the MCs is really lovely. The number of times Cas gently removed Thor's glasses from his face when he'd fallen asleep . . . * chef's kiss *

I also really appreciated the self-enforced slow down where they decide to keep things

I laughed out loud more than once, but especially at the morning after the night before . . . I knew where it was going, but when it finally happened, I was so delighted at how it played out.

Also appreciated seeing both Cas and Thor's families and how differently they have been treated, which informs their personalities so much. The characters really shone in these home for the holidays scenes.

I think a lot of the push/pull of the emotion can be chalked up to college students, which mostly felt true to life--emotions run high and Cas is discovering lots of new stuff all at once. I do wish that the story had been streamlined a bit; it did seem to be overlong in sections, and was probably trying to do too many things. I think a lot of the pop culture references, which truly ran the gamut, could mostly have been cut and nothing much would be lost.

That being said, I had a blast reading this and will definitely be picking up the next book from this author.

Hot boys denying their feelings for each other as they live in close proximity? Yes, please. Said hot boys giving in and exploring each other in every possible way? HELL YES. Cas and Thor make for an adorable pairing, and I loved everything about their interactions together. Add in an intriguing plot, cool shifting abilities, and likeable side characters, and you've got a story I'm happy to recommend.

I tried to make it last but I just couldn’t seem to put it down every time I picked it up… I can’t wait for more from this series and this world.

Loved the concept, but was slightly disappointed with the execution.

There was so much going on with this story that I had a hard time really settling into it. Poor Cassian is thrust into this completely foreign world in the most abrupt way possible. Thor is drowning under his father’s expectations and I felt genuinely bad for him. It would be incredibly difficult to be born into a shifter family and not have your own fauna. Instead of his father accepting that his son is just different, he sets out to “fix” him. I hated that for Thor. Poor guy just wanted to be a writer. It was lovely to see him find someone in Cassian: a friend, then more.

Cassian, still reeling from a dumb past mistake, is working hard to get his life back on track. Once he discovers he’s attracted to Thor, he begins his own journey of self-discovery that was a refreshing take on the bi-awakening trope. He didn’t freak; he just examined who he was and adjusted his perspective. His friend Lucy was a wonderful secondary character in a lot of ways. While Thor came off as standoffish at times, even a little rude, Cassian was a sweetheart from the start. I really enjoyed his character.

There was a very intriguing mystery to solve through the book. I enjoyed following along and trying my best guess to solve it on my own. Time did seem to jump a bit here and there and the missing time was a little disorienting. However, this was already a chunky book and trimming some words was probably a wise idea. Overall, I found this book to be sweet, steamy and interesting. This author certainly has a different style and I find it oddly comforting how they inject warmth into characters who come off cold at times. A solid 3.75 stars rounded up to 4 for me.

Light, fun and funny - with a side of weird, mangled corpses!

CW:

In spite of some really uneven pacing and dubious developments I enjoyed this book a lot.

The characters were both well-developed and I thought they were just darlings. They must be protected at all costs. Cas in particular is such a sweet caretaker, cooking for Thor, easing him out of his shell and making sure he's ok at every step of their journey.

I really appreciated that this was an easy sexual awakening but done without them needing to rush into having penetrative sex straight away to "make it real" or for Cas to "confirm he's bi". No, they already had a real relationship, and taking the time to feel comfortable in that was lovely.

Sexually, I liked the reversal of the expected roles, and it was nice to see Thor come out of his shell and become the alpha in their dynamic, and for Cas to accept that he also likes being cared for even though he's used to being a provider.

There were interesting hints and mentions of the lore of shifters through myths and stories which I'd have liked to see more of. Same goes with the shifter family rituals and scientific aspects, very intriguing but not enough there. I think the worldbuilding had promise but wasn't fully utilised.

My main issue with this book is that the pacing was really uneven. It was slow at first (which I loved) and then really ramped up, which isn't always a bad thing but it didn't fit here.

There were a couple other things that I didn't like at all. It's a testament to the rest of the book that I still rated this so highly.

~ 180 personality shift where timid, anxious Thor tries to be a big ol' bad guy (this kind of fails but it still felt like a big ask).
~ how did ? And I'm assuming that ? It was probably left vague to keep this book from being too dark, but it left me with a lot of questions (such as: did I accidentally skip a chapter? *scrolls through Kindle*), and then I was pretty upset anyway when it was revealed/hinted at.
~ I was a bit uncomfortable with how
 ~ WTF happened to
~ You're telling me that that dickhead Benson just got away with ??? The whole hockey plotline was kinda superfluous and only served to make me angry that .
~ The villain was so obvious and, sure, , but it felt pretty anticlimactic.
 ~ Ends pretty abruptly.

In spite of this (fairly long) list of annoyances, this was a fun book, with engaging characters and a romance that I quite liked. I was planning to read book 2 but the reviews have me questioning so I might sit on it a bit and come back to it later.

I loved this book! I was engaged immediately and couldn't put it down.

What I loved:

The characters.
Cas and Thor were immediately very real to me. They had personality and felt three dimensional from the start. And I loved them, I was routing for them from moment one. I had a perfect picture of both of them in my head and they were consistently loveable throughout the book.

The shifter lore.
I really loved the way the shifter society worked in this one. And the way shifters themselves worked. I love that everyone in a family presents as a different fauna (their shifter form), and that it seems to be tied to the personality of the person.

Cas' bi-crisis.
This was handled SOOO well. So often I see someone having a super freak out and losing their absolute mind when they have a sexuality crisis. But Cas' crisis wasn't too angsty. It suited the book perfectly. There was some angst and confusion, but it didn't become this huge overblown thing. He comes out and it freaks him out. But it doesn't ruin his life for a while before he can move on. I also liked the added bit with Cas figuring out that he's not the alpha of their relationship and what that means to him. I liked that he embraced it and experimented instead of totally freaking out. It was a nice change to see someone open to exploring their sexuality instead of being afraid of it.

Stereotype subversion.
I love love love love LOVEEEEEEEE to the ends of the earth that Thor is the alpha in their relationship. Since he's the skinny nerd. And that they state that no one knows if their an alpha in a relationship until they get into one. I got the impression that while Thor is the Alpha between him and Cas, he could very well not have been in a relationship with someone else. I love this. People's sexuality being fluid and changing from partner to partner. I also loved that even though Thor was the alpha in the relationship, they still don't even let that define them and they switch in bed. And Cas (as the big tough hockey player) doesn't end up being alpha. And that doesn't BOTHER him at all. He's like: no, it's cool, this is what I want. And I just. I die for subversion of stereotypes and tropes so I loved this a LOT.

Thor's fauna crisis.
Thor not having a fauna and not fitting in with his family was sooo relatable I almost cried. I absolutely adore that even once he gets his fauna he doesn't feel like he fits because it's not a predator like the rest of his family. Absolutely 1000% relatable. Even after you are an adult and feel like you should fit in with your family, still feeling like that outsider... SO GOOD. And so well done in this story. I just wanted to hug him and tell him I understood.

Sex scenes.
The smut in this book is marvellous. It's loving, even during the more desperate "I need you now" type scenes. There is so much love between these two... it's just... I love it. You can feel it on the page, how much they care about each other, and the way they're drawn to each other. And it doesn't take a zillion years to get to the get together. I really thought the timing on the get together was PERFECT. I was just starting to feel like I wanted to strangle them both. ;) But the smut is great. There were a very few instances where some phrasing was used that took me out of the scene a little... just descriptions that didn't make sense for the position etc. But they were very few.

Things that weren't my favourite:

Cas' storyline got lost.
I really felt like the story Cas walked into this book with kind of disappeared. He ends up rooming with Thor because he lost his full ride (based on his hockey scholarship) and needs to earn it back, so he's entirely focused on that. And he's worried about not being able to help or support his down-on-their-luck family. I was really interested in seeing where this went because I love Cas as a character and felt for him. But these plots kind of disappeared. There are some references to him attending hockey practice. Every once in a blue moon he vaguely worries about his family... but he doesn't have a focus on any of these things. He gets very caught up in Thor. But coming into the book we got the impression that these things were his whole life. So I did miss more focus on Cas in the book, outside of his sexual crisis and relationship with Thor (which I loved).

Pacing.
I won't get too into this, but the pacing was wonky sometimes. There were times when suddenly, within the same chapter, we would jump ahead weeks. A chapter break would have made it feel less strange... and times when we skipped over scenes with brief "we did this and left" type sentences... where I would have liked to see the rest of the scene play out. It wasn't super distracting, just every once in a while there would be a strange time jump that made me feel a little out of place in the story.

Bad guy reveal.
I had guessed the bad guy pretty early on in the book. But I'm fine with it because Cas and Thor's developing relationship was plenty to keep me busy. AND despite guessing the bad guy really early, I didn't know his motivations until the end. The reveal was great and I loved it.

Note on spelling/grammar/punctuation.
There were a lot of spelling/grammatical/punctuation issues in the version I read. However, it was an ARC copy and I understand there was another thorough edit done before the final copy was released.

Trigger warning: sexual assault.
This wasn't something that bothered me, but some people may have a hard time with the sexual assault in this book. It wasn't graphic, it's a cut away scene. But Thor does deal with the fallout for a while... and it effects his intimacy with Cas. I thought it was very well handled and gave me enough to make me feel for Thor without being too disturbing or hard to read.

All that being said: I LOVED THIS!!!! I would read more of these two in a SECOND, and I really hope this may possibly become a series... I can see them attracting more trouble, or going looking for it. ;)

Well, well... I don't know what to say or how to rate the book. *sigh*

I truly enjoyed Thor and Cas' relationship, but there were several glaring problems with the whole story. "Might Quill" requires an editor or a team of dedicated individuals to highlight all problematic content.

Things I liked:
♢ Thor and Cas - both separately and together. They had their ups and downs, but were able to communicate to overcome some problems.
♢ shifter dynamics - the concept of fauna was intriguing. I just wish the author dedicated some more pages to expand the lore or describe the dynamics.

Things that need some more loving:
♦ timeline - don't get me started on it - I had to re-read several times to see what's going on. I think that words like "days," "weeks," or "months" were just put there without thinking about it.
♦ simple mistakes - ok, I'm not such a petty person, but after spotting another one, I was getting annoyed. And I don't mean grammar or spelling. It was more like: Cas went into the tub, and then suddenly he was in the shower, and so on.
♦ the speed of the relationship - it started so suddenly and fast. I felt like the author wanted them together and didn't bother with writing the boring stuff.

Overall, it wasn't a bad book, but our time for reading is limited, so there are definitely better choices. I pre-ordered the second book (I love both the title and the cover) and I hope it'll be better than this one.

This was cute… a little out there, but still super cute. Cas and Thor were adorable together and their dynamic was everything. I absolutely loved that they had the whole nerd/jock trope going on, but then fell into non-stereotypical alpha male shifter roles. The ending was a little out there and this really needed an editor, as there were errors throughout, but overall I enjoyed it.

Neat concept but the execution was a hot hot mess.

I grabbed this book because I wanted to read the second because the cover is beautiful. I still am, despite this being yet another 2023 fail.

There is some serious editing that needs to happen. It needed to be about 200 pages shorter.

Also, I’m not sure why authors give away to the reader who done it in a who done it book, but when I’ve figured out exactly what’s happening with who at 20% while the characters act like oblivious idiots through the rest of the book… it makes me not want to read. But I did. For days. I’m not really sure why, I guess there were parts of the plot I wanted to see completed. But by the end I was too distracted by how messy the writing is.

Attempting the second and if it’s just as bad, shelving this author.

4.5

I don't know quite where to start since I basically spent the last day reading this book and still feel like I'm in there. It's chonky! Though the last 10% is promo for other books so that makes it a little less intimidating.

Cassian and Thor were just perfect! They communicated they dated, and they had a solid friendship behind them. There were so many lovely moments between them that their romance felt like a natural progression. Even with a mating bond, it was made clear to Cassian that he had to be 100% sure before they committed to anything.

The sexuality crisis was so cute and well done. There wasn't a big unnecessary freak-out, more of a scientific exploration and honestly, it was pretty funny.

The cover does give a little too much away, so Thor isn't really much of a surprise but it was so well done that I didn't mind it.

I'm rating this at 4.5 because there are a few absolutely minor issues with the writing - transitions that were a little hasty or abrupt or the wrong words used. To me, it felt like there either had to be some trimming or extend it to 2 books, there's enough material there for it. The ending was a tad short for me but my overall enjoyment of the book gives it a high rating because I really was hooked throughout and the book will stay with me for a while.

For an unusual shifter story that does occasionally get a bit icky, Mighty Quill is perfect.

Wolf shifters? Borrrrrring.
Panther shifters? So yesterday!
Hedgehog shifter! YES PLEASE! 🦔

I adored this action-packed, fun-filled paranormal mystery romance!

TBH, my favourite moments were definitely when Cas was taking pictures of hedgehog-Thor in a teacup/washing him with a toothbrush in the sink. 😂

I mainly read this because I was desperate to read the sequel, Dress the Neck Becomingly, but I had such a fun time I'm so glad I didn't skip it.

Thor is adorably dorky, Cas is adorably protective & I had a great time following their blossoming romance, which had plenty of realistic conflict.

With laugh-out-loud moments, kick-ass side characters, and swoon-worthy steam, this isn't one to miss. 💕💕💕

I don't know what's with me and shifters books lately, I mean, usually not my jam. But kinda fancy that right now, so I got this one on KU.

Good world building, the sciency bits related to shifters' biology were cool and well dosed. Cute little hedgehog moments. Nice seeing some bigger shifters' culture and family traditions.

Terrible regarding all the rest. The writing is passable, mediocre I mean. Not much depth. But the characters? Flat. Their issues together or separately are barely touched on. Boring sex, sadly. Nothing makes me disappointed in a book like a bad sex scene.
Their relationship is built on nothing. Lust, a short friendship, nothing that gets to be emotionally intense or involving.
The mystery case was so ridiculous and obvious it's not worth mentioning.
Not a win for me I'm afraid.

So long x

I really liked the love story and I found the relationship between the protagonists enchanting. In addition, the dual POVs were well incorporated and enriching.

In addition to the romance, there is also a subplot in the book that was supposed to add some suspense. Unfortunately, I have to say that it was rather boring. Furthermore, it was integrated rather poorly into the main plot, which made the whole reading experience a bit worse.

Overall I liked this one. At places it did feel like the story started dragging but I liked the characters and Thor's fauna form. A couple of freak out moments from Cas, so thankful for Lucy. M/M, F/F, A loving family, an annoying family. Shifter experiment mystery, with a predictable bad guy. The hedgehog and cuddle moments were sweet.

I was offered an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.

I really enjoyed the ride this book takes you on. It also has one of my favorite tropes - acts of service! So many sweet gestures between these MC's (flowers, custom keys, cupcakes, you name it). Cas is your typical "straight" college guy who is looking for an apartment and comes across an ad Thor has placed. I loved reading the journey from roommates to mates, it includes weekly dinners, candle buying, a lot of longing looks and cute nicknames. I also appreciated how Cas took his time to explore himself to find yes, he really was in love with his male roommate. This book also has mystery afoot. The MC's accidently come across a shifter who looks like a zombie and realize something dangerous is happening in the shifter community and they are thrust into finding out what is going on. Overall, I highly recommend this book and if you're looking for some sweet romance and a little hedgehog love then this is it for you.

Very sweet opposites attract shifter fic showcasing Emmaline Strange’s writing talent. Thor is from a shifter family but lacks the ability to shift, the proverbial black sheep, if you will. Cassian, a popular jock with a heart of gold, stumbles into being his roommate and sexual tension ensues. There’s a mystery in the background that felt unsatisfying to me (hence the 4 stars), but overall loved the story and I can I just say that is was also very hot. Like mad dirty in places, always appreciate that. There were definitely some copy-editing issues, but I didn’t mind so much. Strange is a great author and I hope we see a lot more of her work.

All the fluff

I am going to gush about this book for such a long time to anyone who will listen. I loved it. The two Mc were just adorable. The mystery going on throughout was engaging (I totally guessed the bad person from the beginning but it didn’t spoil it). Was just the tonic after my last dark read. Loved the world building and the way shifters develop here.
There are some spelling / grammar mistakes throughout but I’m not a grammar nazi and it wasn’t hard to work out what it was meant to be so it didn’t bother me.
