Captivating and Realistic

Interesting and compelling main and supporting characters wrapped in a high-energy, intense spy thriller (that covered topics like gender equality, patriotism, romance and politics) - set against a backdrop of high seas, family expectations, treason or fidelity. Highly recommend. A riveting read.

Espionage is in the air and the Pacific's waves rebel as the Kai, a Chinese intel gathering ship, nearly collides with an American destroyer, the USS Mitscher, in an effort to snatch Rodham Dalton from the sea in Michael Dean's BLUE DRAGON. Li Chan, a Third Department operative, is on a mission, under the watchful eye of her father, Col. Kueng Chan, a dedicated experienced solidier who will allow nothing to subvert their task to get Li and Rod to the Florida coast.

Emotions are at war in this sea-going thriller as Li tries to earn respect from the crew of the Kai while handling Rod, guided by her father's steeled discipline and emotionless mystique. Her Eastern upbringing collides with her Western training as she begins to develop a guarded relationship with Rod, knowing they are destined to become 'husband and wife' once they settle in Florida.

I've given you a little background in this fast-paced thrilling edge-of-your-seat page-turner but I will say no more other than this...you will not be disappointed as you read through BLUE DRAGON to its heart-stopping conclusion. I wonder if Mr. Dean has a sequel in mind, I hope so.

BLUE DRAGON's front and back covers are very eye-appealing. I like the feel of its matt finish. The back cover blurb is also easy to read. Mike Dean's font choice and spacing make the book easy to read. A great read should be fun and not a chore. Thanks Mike and please do keep writing, you have a winner here.

Michael's "Blue Dragon" delivers an exhilarating maritime adventure that balances action with heart. This spy thriller introduces us to a beautiful Chinese agent on her crucial first mission and the rugged American sailor she must work with, creating immediate tension as they navigate dangerous waters—both literally and figuratively.
The story excels in its fast-paced action sequences, particularly the explosive sea battles between Chinese and American naval forces. As the protagonists flee from one imperiled vessel to another, the stakes continually escalate while they work to expose a deadly plot against America.
What makes "Blue Dragon" stand out is its accessibility—the author includes just enough nautical terminology to create authenticity without overwhelming readers unfamiliar with maritime language. The narrative also provides fascinating glimpses into Chinese culture alongside detailed depictions of shipboard life in both navies.
Despite the international conflict serving as backdrop, at its core this is a compelling story about connection across boundaries—a clean romance that develops organically amidst the chaos. The character development remains strong throughout, exploring their motivations and emotional journeys while keeping the plot moving forward.
For readers seeking a thrilling maritime adventure with cultural depth and genuine heart, "Blue Dragon" delivers on all fronts.

J. Fifer said this better than I can in her review on Amazon.
Blue Dragon is a powerfully written action/romance novel about a Chinese spy, Li, and an American “traitor”, Rod. The characters are so vivid and well-drawn that as the story builds, so does my rapport with them. The dialogue is authentic; the action stimulating. Because of the author’s vast maritime knowledge, detailed descriptions, and military terminology, I easily transitioned into the seascape getting not only a glimpse of life aboard a seafaring vessel, but also the feeling that I was truly voyaging along.
Blue Dragon is the kind of novel where I sit down to read a chapter and find myself several chapters later not willing to leave the characters or situation. The end left me hungry for Li and Rod’s next adventure…perfect way to end a novel. Highly recommended.
