Who can find a virtuous woman? This is an age-old question that can both inspire and intimidate. The saintly sister described in Proverbs 31 is nothing short of an ideal wife and mother, a valued contributor to society, and a tireless proponent of all that is good and right. In viewing these qualities as a goal, women can often fall prey to this passage’s common feelings of discouragement and inadequacy. Many women are left to wonder, Who could possibly embody such a perfect specimen of womanhood?
With Hebrew, humor, and reassurance, author Tamara Uzelac Hall injects a much-needed dose of reality into women’s interpretation of this section of scripture with this all of us are virtuous. This book teaches how to embrace the unique and impactful role you already play and will help you discover a truth that will change the way you view your no matter your progress on the path, thou art already a virtuous woman!
Listen to the audio, I loved it. I love that she teaches the Hebrew meanings of words in the scriptures, helps things make so much sense and brings clarity.
I listened to the audio book and really enjoyed this deep study of Proverbs 31. I highly recommend it; there were so many great insights particularly relating to the Hebrew meanings of words.
I loved this deep dive into proverbs 31! I loved how she made it apply to anyone but also focused on women: their strengths and their stories in the scriptures. The text was more causal and rambling then I expected it to be but that made it an easy, flowing read. I would have preferred a more serious, textbook approach but her personal stories are touching and do add to the meaning of each verse.
If you want an in-depth study of the Proverb of the virtuous woman, look no further! Each chapter dissects each verse of the famous scripture with so much detail that you wish there was more. There are even a few blank pages to jot down notes if that’s your thing. Tammy does an amazing job with connecting each verse to our everyday circumstances and helps us to see how amazing we are as women doing the Lord’s work. Far Above Rubies will have you chuckling and wiping a few escaping tears while energizing your spirit. This is a must-read if you’re feeling in need of a boost to your spirituality or just your mood in general. I cannot give this book enough praise.
I wasn't in the mood to read this book at first since I had just finished a different book on scripture and religion. However, I needed to read it for book club. As I read, I went from skimming to critiquing to pondering, and more. I had never before considered this proverb as a allegory, but once the idea was suggested, it opened up a much deeper way to study the words.
Tammy was a bit self deprecating at times and I wanted her to talk about grace much sooner than she introduced it, but overall it was well done. Her explanations of Hebrew and her personal stories make the words sink deep into your soul as you ponder how you can better commit to Christ and serve others as He would.
This is one of my favorites. It dives deeply into the parable of a virtuous woman. A parable that has left so many women feeling like they aren't enough. Or leave them killing themselves, trying to be what it depicts. But she explains that it isn't about a marriage between a man and a woman, but between a woman and the Savior. That clarification and so many others change everything. This book was so uplifting and encouraging. I loved IT!!!
Fascinating look at Proverbs 31. It can be read as an allegorical story of covenant keepers as the virtuous woman, and Christ as the husband. I thought the author occasionally stretched the meaning a little to make her point, but overall loved it and learned much about the gospel and my relationship with the Savior.
This is an excellent book about proverbs 31 - a virtuous woman. It is really hard to understand and identify with the woman described in these verses, but the author does a superb job of defining what has verse is trying to say and how women can achieve these characteristics. I will use this as a study guide every time I read that chapter of scripture!
This was well researched and an interesting perspective on the proverb. I wish I would have read it slowly without rushing to get it ready in one day for book club - I think I would have liked it more if I could have taken my time. And the author was really sweet and video called into our book club, so I always appreciate an author who goes above and beyond.
Powerful book about the divine nature of women, based on Proverbs 31. This scripture has always seemed to describe a state of perfection not attainable by mortal women. But apparently I've completely misunderstood what this scripture means. The symbolism is profound and beautiful. I learned so much.
An in depth look at Proverbs 31. There is a lot of insight here even though sometimes I feel like the symbolism might be a stretch. But, overall, a very positive and encouraging look at the proverb of the Virtuous Woman.
A good friend brought this book to me - I love when friends do that! I had never heard of the author before, but apparently she has presented at "Time out for Women". I love her sense of humor, but I love her teachings even more. She breaks down the proverb about "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies" (Proverbs 31:10-31). I absolutely loved her findings and her insights. It gave me a whole new perspective on these scriptures found in the Bible that are definitely worth a deeper more expanded study.
I loved this book. The chapters were short and digestible. I loved the stories throughout that showed application and principles. I zoomed through the book quickly and now I want to go back through it again and marinate in the thoughts.
Absolutely a gem 💎 of a book!!! Highly recommend for those who want to be educated and entertained all while learning how these scriptures can apply to you personally. Loved it!!!!
I love the insight Tammy bring to the scriptures! The examples she gives are relevant to us today. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, and I will be buying the book as well.
Such a fantastic and refreshing view/translation of Proverbs 31. The author can be a bit self deprecating at times but the message is beautiful and well laid out.
I LOVED this book. It goes through Proverbs 31 and breaks down the true meaning of a virtuous woman. Beautiful deeper meaning when going back to the original Hebrew. I enjoyed the personal stories the author shared.
