As an evangelical Christian, I've read MANY devotionals. A Catholic friend usually gets me the Little Black Book for Lent, but this year her Bible study was going through this devotional. Fr. Mark Toups' ARRR method -- acknowledge, relate, receive, and respond, was new to me. It was a little out of my comfort zone. I don't usually "imagine" myself in scenes and then "listen" for what Jesus might say to me. I prefer lots of scripture commentary and background information, but doing some imaginative reading wasn't terrible. My own Bible study group is reading Dane Ortlund's, Gentle and Lowly, which echoes some of this Lenten devotional's same thoughts (in a more academic context), so they were nice complements to each other.
