When I was reading this I rated this a 2. Which is something I rarely do since I haven’t finished reading the book. Well, since I finished with the book, it is still a 2. Honestly I just felt like this should’ve stayed on wattpad. On some parts it felt that it was heavily influenced by 2015 one direction fan fics. I didn’t like how fast paced their romance was evolving. I understand that the author is known for writing face paced stories. But come on now, you just met this girl and knew her for a month and now had sex with her?!?!There was barely any relationship development that lead to that stage. The “barely development” was first them going to the bookstore to buy Twilight and reading it together, to having sleepover with “secret” glances, to her running away to the treehouse and him finding her, to him telling the girl they should get away from town for a few days. The book had me in a chokehold. I honestly didn’t like the way it was written but I wanted to finish it since I was almost done. I didn’t like Trinity’s personality was basically made up of “I hate secrets or whatever but it’s also bc I’m depressed”. She hid from her mother that she had a bf, her mother only knew since she caught her in the act. The mother had someone courting her, a sign that the mother is moving on since the dad/husband’s death four years ago. Trinity gets upset that she kept this secret and is saying you aren’t the mother I used to know blah blah. Honestly, I hated how she treated her mother painting her to be like the bad guy. Trinity ran off with Leo which made the mother get worried. Trinity comes back and is met with a worried mother and the mother said, your father would be disappointed in you, we didn’t teach you how to lie and stuff. Trinity gets mad and saying that the mom is disrespectful, when have you ever been a mom to me, you just leave me etc etc. I found her really irritating. Her character is basically “I’m not like other girls.” DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON when she found out about her bf actually being a celebrity. THE WAY SHE ACTED WAS SO DRAMATIC AND FOR WHAT😐.
TBH the “smut” scenes were mediocre at best. There wasn’t a lot. Some of the scenes that were being described was really cringey. Personality of the main characters in my opinion were meh and was bland. A lot of their personality came from being depressed or whatnot. I don’t see how people rated this a 5. Just save your time and skip on this. If you are a wattpad expert and know how stories are written and the language that is being used. Then yes, you are correct this is exactly how this story is formatted. Cringey and too much going on at once. After writing this review I contemplated on changing the 2 into a 1.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was just depressing, come on I get your dad died and your unsocial but come on, you don’t change in 10 seconds for a guy even if he buys you a whole library!!!!! But I really didn’t like this book the writing style was boring and the plot was super dull. Sorry but I couldn’t finish I DNFed on page 212 I couldn’t give it anymore I really tried I really did. I had really high expectations.
you know when you finish a book so fast people think it’s because you liked it? that’s usually true to me, but holy shit this book was like hell to me and i needed to get out of the other side asap the writing on it is terrible it’s like the author was a wattpad writer (the bad kind) like a year ago i dont recommend. the only tolerable characters were amelia and simba
I have to say this is probably the worst book I’ve read in my entire life. The plot jumped around and the way the characters was terrible. I do my best to finish all the books I start but this physically hurt to read. By the end I was just skimming because I wanted it to be over so bad.
Listen… I really wanted to like this book. The premise was cute but things moved wayyy too fast. It’s almost like it was written as a fanfic and that is NOT a compliment. Ugh. I really tried. Really really. Not my cup of tea. I got about 80% in before I quit so I really tried.
when i first heard of identity, i was so excited to read it! and once i got my hands on it, i was so happy and started it right away. i adored this story so much. leo and trin were so wholesome. this story is more than just a romance and i loved that so much. it deals with serious issues that are not talked about enough. these characters went through some rough things in their past and they learned to overcome those things and learn to love and live to the absolute fullest. the whole plot line of the heroine ,trinity, who hates music falling in love with a rockstar but she doesn’t know he’s a rockstar was so fun and entertaining!!! i also absolutely adored the relationship between the siblings. they were so cute🥹. anyways, i loved this book so much and a huge thank you to alexia for sending me an ARC of her book and being the sweetest ever. 🤍 i hope everyone reads and loves this book🥰
tropes: famous/ non famous trope rockstar romance small town (check tws)
Oh my God. I still get the same feeling as when I read it on Wattpad. This book means so much to me. I remember I started reading lexis story with the famous actors and then she started identity❤️ I still remember when it had 10k reads and everyday, same time I was waiting for her to post a chapter. The cliffhangers ohmyGod. Everyday I was excited to wake up and wait until 6pm for me so I can read it. I love everything. The names, the characters, the writing, everything. I’m super excited to get it as a paperback and even more for the next books. I know at one point she started posting chapters from the next book on Wattpad and I feel lucky I read them straight when they were posted. And as Greek of course I loved the ending. Thank you Lexi again for this masterpiece<3
ROMANCE BOOKS NEED NOT BE 500 PAGES LONGI died dead while completing it
I have been eyeing this book for more than 1.5 years now, so, I picked it up in my maybe slumping era💀
I think I would have adored this book if the characters were adults instead of 18-19 year old. I was craving a book where MMC spoiles FMC rotten, but it didn't hit hard because they were teenagers, but he did spoil her a lot, like gifting her fav car to ask her out, or giving her a whole ass library, expensive dinner date.
Trinity and Leonidas said so much I love yous to each other within the span of 2 months, which I haven't even said in 20 years of my life. They being all lovey-dovey got on my nerves badly. It was so insta lust + insta love that I was contemplating my life choices. It would be 2 stars if I wasn't reading The Wicked King side by side🤣 Also, they had sex while Leonidas' siblings were in the room (they were drunk and passed out but brotha ewww). Leonidas acted jealous when they were not in the relationship, and it was so cringe. The author also has no sense of timeline. It was annoying.
I love love love Elijah. I need his book asap. I literally slammed my palm to my forehead when the twist was revealed. One dead parent and another being hated is seriously not my cup of tea. You know we don't even get to know Trinity's parents' names in the whole book, who play such an important role in the plotline (if one exists). Trinity treated her mother so badly. I felt bad for the poor woman who had to keep up with such a shitty daughter. Trinity's whole personality revolved around being sad and depressed.
As a Directioner, the bad management of Times Three was hitting home. These poor kids had to record several albums while touring the world all around the year and it was literally so painful to read. And Amelia developing an eating disorder was a knife to the heart because Zayn also developed the eating order while he was in the band😭😭😭
1) Characters made me mad. All of them. They’re like all so naive and stupid.
2) Leo was so fckng cringy. Like I get the author’s intention, trying to make him a funny, chill, moody guy but that went terribly. Literally made him the opposite of attractive, funny, and all.
3) The relationship between the MCs (Leo and Trinity) was simply horrible. It was all so sudden and so “what the fuck is happening.” They were randomly with “I love you” and whatnot.
4) Trinity is a selfish btch. She thinks she has it the worst because her father died. Bro yeah, we know, you’ve mentioned it in every single chapter. Also, it seems like she only cares about her boyfriend; she’s like “oh Amelia and Elijah are my besties, I love them, I miss them” but then she only focuses on Leo. In other words, she was not there for them. She basically acknowledged Amelia’s ED and did nada to show support of whatever, always running upstairs to Leo.
5) Mother-Daughter relationship was so weird and odd. I just had to say that. One day they were fighting, “you’re a disgrace, your father would be disappointed;” next day it’s, “you’re so strong, your father would be so proud.” Pick a side. Everything was so weird with them fr.
6) The plot was just a complete dump of unorganized ideas. Okay, so, her father died this and that. Suddenly, in the middle of the concert, there were shooters. No one died. The shooters were the one who killed her father ___ years ago. Suddenly, her boyfriend, Leo, witnessed the murder of her father. Man. What is this. So sudden everything.
7) Writing style was so bad. Looked like an unedited draft from Wattpad..
1/5 tbh. good plot but writing was very cringe and feels like it was written by a 14 year old on wattpad. Plot was sometimes all over the place. Only finished it bc i finish a book i start.
cant finish, this was so bad. the characters were ok except the main character was dreadful. the main character was so annoying and all she talked about was how she hated music. I get it but at the same time when someone asks you to say a fun fact ab urself you DONT say "I hate music" insane. She falls for a guy after like 2 days and there is no way she all of a sudden isnt bothered by his singing. like girl bffr. the writing felt like I was writing a fiction prompt from my 8th grade English class and I did not feel like this story flowed whatsoever. it reminds me of a 2016 wattpad story that was written by a 12 year old. I came from tiktok and this time im super disappointed in this book. It was childish, the execution of it was bad and choppy. I REALLY wanted to like it but unfortunately I hated it and its one of my few DNF. I cant stress it enough, don't read this book. setting urself up for failure.
4.5 ⭐️ - the chokehold this book had on me during the pandemic was insane 😭 so to say i was super excited to receive an *** is an UNDERSTATEMENT 🙏 - i read this book first on wattpad and the nostalgia i had re-reading literally put me in my feels; it still stayed true to original story but all the little edits here and there made it 10x better 🫶 - anyways this book is basically about trinity, a small town girl who has recently lost her father, and leonidas, the lead singer in a band called x3. to complicate things further trin has sworn off music since the passing of her father, leaving her absolutely clueless too who leo & his siblings are. this is there chance of being 'normal' teenages, i mean whats the worst that can happen? 👀😶 - now onto what i loved... 1. the mental health rep!!! i really appreciate how well certain scenes in this book were written and how nothing was glossed over (it was also a PAINFUL reading experience, everything trin & leo went through I FELT 🥲) 2. TRIN & LEO!!!!! (duh.) these two are literal soulmates and you can't convince me otherwise! 3. the bond the triplets share 🫶 4. SIMBA 🥹 - okay so to make a long story short, this book NEEDS to be your next read!!!!! trinity is such a complex character that i feel everyone can relate to on a deeper level, and leo just deserves everyones love 😭🤍 - please check tw before reading!! - tropes: rockstar romance secret identity small town famous boy/non-famous girl - *disclaimer: arc provided for an honest review*
(read til chapter 40/60, very small spoiler in text so don't read if you're not into that)
It's just not that good. I just saw it was published per chapter at first, which I figure makes a lot of sense. It reads like a chapter-a-week-story. It has no logical story line. Every single chapter something bad happens and then the next chapter it's fixed. Way too many things happen without a logical reason for it. And still everything feels entirely predictable. The storyline is very staccato.
Also, I could not relate to the characters that much. The mom had no character build, she used to be lovely and halfway through suddenly she suddenly becomes a bitch. Trinity obviously has a trauma which sucks for her and her mom but why does she ignore her best friend for FOUR years but will make friends with the new neighbours within a week? (***SLIGHT SPOILER IN NEXT SENTENCE) Also, when the best friend was in the bedroom screaming at the rock star and even TOUCHING him while he was in bed with Trinity, it just seemed so fake to me. That situation in Trins bedroom was such a weird place for the friend to act that way and even to get handsy, I think it's so weird no-one in the book acknowledged that.
If I had read it per chapter I probably would have liked it a lot more because the storyline would not have been as important. And of course the scenario of star-meets-girl-next-door is cool, I can understand why others would like it. But unfortunately it's not for me.
4.5 ⭐️ Wow. Emotional roller coaster. This book had a beautiful love story, healing, personal growth, SUSPENSE. Like what. I read this in 5 hours and could not stop.
I want to precedent this by saying that I’ve never read anything by this author before, but that I was completely floored after reading it. I haven’t connected with a book this intensely in a really long time.
Trinity, the girl who had it all. The popularity, the friends, the perfect family. All of that changed in the matter of a second. Now, she’s a shell of the person she used to be. She despises social interaction, feeling more comfortable in the walls of her bedroom with the only people she can tolerate—the ones in the books she reads. Until she meets her new neighbor… and he brings about a bit of light in her, summoning her out of the darkness she’s blanketed herself in for a long time, making her question everything.
Leo, the closet rockstar. He’s struggling, unable to write new music because of all the stress in his life. Which brings them to the middle of nowhere. He’s reluctant about being there, bitter because it came to this, until he meets the hot neighbor whose pain, that no one else sees, draws him to her… because it’s something he knows and hides all too well.
The mental health representation in this book is outstanding. The topics discussed within this book are heavy and triggering, so please do your research before reading. Both characters are broken in a way that neither of them can navigate, living in a darkness that no one else seems to understand. But through their mental health struggles and deep-seeded agony, they’re drawn to each other, providing a sort of light for each other that makes them want to be better, to live.
I read this book in one sitting. Started at around 8 pm one night and was unable to put it down until I finished it, which happened to be around 4:30 am. That’s what Identity does to you. It pulls you into the darkness, into the secrets and lies, captivating you with the anguish of the story and desire for these characters to pull through and survive the hardest time in their life, wondering what could possibly happen next.
I can not recommend this book enough. I don’t have words to describe just how much I think everyone needs to read this book. As someone who also struggles with mental health issues, I’ve never felt more called out in a book, but in the best way. Please read this book, have a good cry, and thank me later.
Identity is a beautifully written story about two broken kids finding happiness and life in each other. Leonidas and Trinity are wonderful for each other and while they both fight their demons daily, they learn to find the sun even in the darkest of days, and cherish the moments of sunshine. Leo and Trinity’s love is unlike no other. It’s messy, heartbreaking at times, butterfly igniting, and above all real. Identity shows the side of love that is not commonly discussed in romance novels. Love isn’t always fun and games, and Identity perfectly captures that and explains the not so pretty side of relationships, while still making The mental health awareness in this book was utterly unique. While both characters struggle with trauma and mental health issues, they learn how to deal with it, and grow as people in the process. The love these characters have for each other will make you swoon. They went through hard times, but found themselves again in each other.
Lexi, I am so proud of how far you have come as a writer. To say I am astonished by how much you have grown in the past year is an understatement. A year ago people were reading this book on Wattpad, and now it’s a self published book and even more people can experience Leonidas and Trinity’s love story. When you become a New York Times bestselling author, remember your roots and all the people who have adored and supported you from the start (and me!) Remember no matter hard life gets, to keep rocking on.
As soon as this appeared on my Kindle I immediately started reading and I couldn’t put it down! A huge thanks to the author, Alexia, for sending me an early copy!
This story follows Trinity as she is grieving the death of a loved one, and Leonidas, a famous rockstar who moves to Trinity’s small town. Trinity used to love music, but in the face of her grief she can’t stand to hear a single melody. She has no idea that Leonidas is a famous rockstar, yet she finds herself falling for him anyway.
Trinity’s character is so strong and relatable, I immediately loved her from the beginning. Leonidas stole my heart right away. He’s everything you could want in a book boyfriend. Their story is beautiful and at times so emotional. The two of them are both battling with their own demons, but they begin to fight them together.
The author did such a beautiful job of portraying mental illness in this book and shows you that you matter, and you are not alone. Identity is one of my favorite reads of the year thus far, and one you surely do not want to miss! Be sure to preorder Identity, out June 13!
I feel awful about this, I'm not usually one to leave bad reviews. This was a DNF for me and i NEVER DNF. I absolutely hated this book solely because of the aggravatingly annoying main character. The idea and the plot have the potential to be a really great romcom. I know so many people who loved this book, so I'm likely the problem here. I have never hated a character like I hate Trinity. She was wayyyyy too emotional for me and such a pick me girl. In the span of one page she would experience extreme happiness, immense sadness, and pure anger. I couldn't keep up with her volatile emotions and her constant pity parties. Every time I picked up this book, I would force myself to read one chapter and it would put me in a bad mood for days. I finally DTF'ed at 50% because reading should be making me happy and not irate. If you are a someone who hates emotional main characters, perhaps skip this book.
2.5 ⭐️ i feel like there were many things in this book that were unecessary and didn’t add anything to the story. I cringed at some parts and the book was so long and for what 😐
I heard of this book from bookstgram and it caught my attention because of that one part of Leo taking Trinity to a bookshop. This book feels like a thirteen year old wrote it on wattpad and called it a masterpiece.
First of all, the characters are boring. A girl who hates music because her father died and "SINGS TO HER" when he was still alive. When you think about it, the reason is so weak. Why would you distance yourself from music? When you go to a supermaket, you hear music. When you ride a cab, the radio is on. The concept of her disliking music because it was a "bond you shared with your father" is too boring that I don't even care.
Leonidas is a brat. He's the reason why I DNF'd this book. If you could only see the annotations on my book about his personality and his attitude. I described him as a walking red flag. He's just so frustrating and annoying, knowing that he's the main character in the story. There are "Bad Boy Tropes", and there are just legit as*holes. He's just not likable IMO.
Secondly, the plot is weak. The triplets are in a band with "millions of views on their youtube". Leo (one of the twins) is in charge of the writing. He has no motivation to write which means the downfall of the band. Their controlling father sends them to a small town for a few months so that Leo can write new songs. I mean the other two siblings are just going to sit there and let their sibling to do all the writing? I know they offered to help him write and Leo refused, but that's it? No talking him out of it? No "come on. We'll think of something and you can check if it's to your liking" ok just sit around and let Leo stress over it I guess.
Trinity has a crush in this Leo guy. Leo just wants to fuck her. Their relationship developed so fast that it feels like a terribly written wattpad book.
Lastly, I like the concept of the story being set in a gen z time period bacause you rarely see published books like that, but the author over explained everything that it makes it annoying for me. The story is so predictable to the point that you don't even care to continue reading because you already know what's going to happen because of the VERY COMMON conflict and tropes.
A book can be salvaged if the plot is good, and the characters are likable, but I don't see anything that makes me want to continue reading it. I've seen wattpad stories that are better than this book. I've never hated a character so much. ( I could compare Leo to Hardin in just those three chapters.)
