*Spoilers* What did I just read? I don't like to leave bad reviews, I try to look for the good in a book regardless if I liked it or not, but I can not find a single good thing to note about this. Novellas are notoriously short (this one is only around 100 pages) and fairly fast-paced, but this book's pacing is insane. To start, the way the book started made me feel like I was jumping into the middle of a book instead of the beginning. And maybe it's just me, but I expected more to happen according to the blurb.
The mmc claims to want to make the mother of the fmc suffer, but instantly kills her on page two or three. Also claims to want to make the fmc suffer, but two pages later is talking about how thinking about the fmc in pain or being killed or whatever bothers him. He even bathes her right after kidnapping her lol. (And just as a side note, they have never met or talked or anything before he shows up, kills her mom, and takes her.)
Also, the "reaction" of the fmc seeing the mutilated, dead body of her mother is...well, basically there is no reaction. She doesn't cry, or get sick, or hardly even think about the fact that this man just killed her mother afterwards. I mean, sure, it's mentioned a few times, but I'm more so talking about the lack of inner dialogue of her even remotely grieving her mother. And she claims to love her mother so much or whatever. Plus, the reaction to being kidnapped is also basically non-existent. She doesn't fight back even in the beginning (even when he tells her to undress for a bath, at which point she is only thinking how beautiful she feels standing there with him looking at her instead of, oh, I don't know, how he just killed her mom an hour ago and kidnapped her?), and she only runs after he kills a man for threatening her but she wasn't even trying to get away really. She was laughing while he was chasing her, even though seconds before this she was running because "he was a psycho and she wasn't going to stay with him".
The instant connection between the fmc and mmc is comical. Especially considering the mmc has never been into another woman because of his past and everything, but all of a sudden this girl can touch him and it doesn't bother him? There's no build up to it, it's all instant. He's instantly okay with anything involving her, he's instantly possessive and willing to kill over her, and so forth. Oh, and they apparently are in love by like the second day of her being taken by him.
The dialogue was so, I don't know, robotic? It didn't sound like actual people talking half the time. It was pretty stilted and awkward. Especially during the long paragraphs of dialogue.
And what little plot line there was was just meh. I feel like it could've turned out to be a decent one, but everything was so rushed and, frankly, even with the killing that happened, I found it pretty boring.
I could go on and name a few other things but I'm just going to leave it at this.
