Wreckless: Book One

Rate this book
Hey, I'm Emmett Locke. I gave up on love years ago; that is, if you can give up on something you never really believed in. Sure, I would gladly accept a relationship and consistent sex, but it just isn't that easy. I don't do bars, clubs, or any of the other things gay men are 'supposed' to do and I'm sure as hell not going on some stupid app. I've accepted, rather begrudgingly, that no one is just going to fall into my lap.

Finnegan Walker the fourth, here. I have no time for any of the stupid men who woo, harass, or eye-fuck me on a seemingly hourly basis. I'm not dumb, even if people assume I became Vice-president of my family's company at the ripe old age of 26 because of my name. Being smart means that I refuse to be used for my money, name, looks, or body and the fact is that by the end of my long days I have very little left to give. Why can't I meet someone who doesn't want to take, take, take? That's alright; there are more important things in life.

Friday afternoon, their worlds collided. Literally. Emmett and Finnegan probably never would have met otherwise. They may as well have been from different planets. Luckily for them both, Finn was reckless. Or maybe it really *was* Emmett's fault?

This is a two-book series with a middle, his daddy, and a lot of expectations turned on their heads. Angst is pretty low and it ends in a HFN. Trigger warnings in front of book one.

It’s so crazy that what you could really like about one book just doesn’t work for you in another book.

I just read on different book by the same author and I praise the book for being really grounded. And this one is also really grounded, but it’s almost because of that it had trouble keeping my interest. I think the difference between this book and the other book was this one was a bit more of a slow burn. Once the couple gets going, the spice is hot, but it took a little bit longer for them to find their groove.

I don’t always need all spice all the time, but I do read for escapism and because this book is so grounded I kind of needed the spice to feel like I was escaping into fiction if that makes sense.

This book follows Finnegan, who is a young successful VP and unbeknownst to him. He’s a “little”. Due to a minor fender bender, he meets Emmett, who is an army vet/blue collar mechanic. The couple from an economic standpoint are certainly an unlikely pair and at first it doesn’t seem that they will have much in common, but there is a bit of attraction between the two.

It takes a while for either of them to really act on it, but Emmett does at least offer to fix Finnegan‘s car given that he is a mechanic and so that helps keep the two connected for a little bit longer than two strangers might have been in a fender bender. after a few what feels like false starts and low-key awkward dates they finally kind of get off the ground and Emmett starts to realize that Finnegan is a little even though Finnegan doesn’t seem to know that.

So we get a bit of kink discovery between the couple which I found to be an interesting dynamic. They fall into the Daddy/middle rolls fairly easily but because they are new and discovering there are some minor hiccups and we get to go along for the ride. There are also some really hot spicy times (way to go, Sammy D) and nice relationship development.

The book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger for the couple, but it’s not a major one. I haven’t decided if I will read book 2 because again it took me some time to really connect with the couple and once things got going and their relationship was a little bit more established. I enjoyed the read, but I just don’t know how invested I am in their future.

Emmett Locke doesn't do the bars and club scene let alone use an app and so has given up on love or finding a partner. Finnegan Walker the Fourth has no time for men who stupidly woo, harass or just eye-fuck him. Yes he is the Vice-president of the company at 26 and folks assume it is just that it is because of his name, but he is very bright and works hard so got it on merit. So he refused to be used and anyway, he has no energy at the end of the day to give to anyone else. Then their worlds collide in an auto accident and suddenly they both find everything they always wanted but didn't know about.

I loved this story with Emmy and Finny meeting and realising that Finny was little and that Emmy could be the perfect Daddy for him. Their learning process and the development of their relationship were very believable and I loved that generally their monetary differences didn't come up or were not causing them issues. I wish I could have hugged Finny as he seemed to need them with all the work he had to do. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BSDM-like DDLB dynamic.
