AH&T3I Update: 25 read, 3 more hardbacks to go (not to mention 15 additional paperbacks...):
This title, the Mystery of the Dancing Devil, is the shortest (141 pages) of the T3I books that I have read to date, but that is not what made this tale a good story. It WAS a good story, and my only complaint as I journeyed along with the three boys was the boys own fears. More than once, I found myself imploring the Three Investigators to charge the Dancing Devil and just tackle him. Would that not solve the case early? Instead, the Dancing Devil freaked out the boys more than once and the case was prolonged for an entire 141 pages. As with almost all T3I books, Dennis Lynds (aka William Arden) used most of the normal T3I elements in this book. The Salvage Yard, the Secret Headquarters, and the use of supporting cast members from the boys' families, etc. were all present in this particular title. The story grew from small to large, as many of the T3I stories do, when the boys are hired to find a simple toy and end up trying to relieve a situation that could have international implications. Yes, it is quite a tale for just 141 pages of text. The pace of the story moves along briskly and plot twists abound as the story unfolds. In the end, it was not too hard to pick out the real bad guy in the story, and of course as usual, younger readers will be somewhat surprised by who is the bad guy. This is a fun read even if parts of it seem silly to me as an adult--just tackle him! You know he is a human! Still, a great little mystery for all T3I fans--young and old alike!
