Absolutely loved this book! I have the lockbox he lauds and use it weekly. One of the highlights for me was the part on schools. So interesting to learn that Danish schools run 9 am- 2 pm. Imagine all the extra time to for self care and just simply living better.

In this book, the author describes the problem of lost attention and how he dealt with it himself:
Overall, the message is a good one: we need to look beyond our own lives, to our families, our communities, our governments, and the world as a whole. But I felt that last third of the book is "for the all good , against the all bad"

This book has clarified what we are doing with our attention and focus. When I was working at the health care field, it’s expected you multi-task. Not only you need to read work emails, get rid of junk mails, you are on Team meeting, Zoom meeting and you carry the phone so anyone can call you. Then in Epic, the doctors can message anytime, any day to ask questions. That’s on top of doing your regular work. As a society, we have accustomed to this type of work setting. Now that I’m retired, I began to set up a trap to myself for spending too much time on iPhone and iPad. I’m going to set up goals like the author to spend more time doing other things that are important in life.
I truly enjoyed the section on education. I went to a rigorous Japanese high school where a lot of students are expected to apply to top universities. We studied during the day (six days per week), then some people would go to juku (night school) so they can apply for colleges. There are more students who are stressed out and some commit suicide. I think the solution is somewhere between Asian vs Finland educational systems. We want to raise children who can be self sufficient and think for themselves.
This book definitely is worth reading again from time to time.

I think everyone should read this book. ADHD and anxiety are on the rise and our lifestyle and environment need an overhaul. There are no quick fixes here, but some real food for thought.
