Gates is jaded. Laet is optimistic about the possibilities in life. Gates is stoic. Laet is wide, happy smiles that actually somehow change the entire atmosphere of a room. Gates is a storm could. Laet is sunshine warming your skin on a lazy afternoon. Gates never wants a relationship. Laet is desperate for snuggles and romance and love and family.
As much as Gates hates watching Laet date other men, jealous and scared he'll actually find someone to share his life with, it kills Gates seeing him looking dejected after each date fails to meet his expectations. Romantic relationships have the potential to go horribly wrong. Gates has seen it with his own parents, and even decades later, he still carries pain in those scars. But Laet is Laet. He deserves to have everything in life that he wants, and Gates' lack of trust in others has him unconvinced that anyone will ever meet the expectations he's set for Laet's future partner.
If you want something done right, do it yourself. Offering to be Laet's romantic stand-in until the man finds someone they both find worthy, is heartbreak waiting to happen, but better Gates' heart than Laet's. Laet's easy acceptance is a surprise… but it's only the first of many.
Oh, this one was so much better than the first of the series! Graves is the perfect example that being blunt and gruff doesn't necessarily mean that that person is hurtful. Sometimes actually saying what you feel is the best thing you can do. The key is to know when to speak and when to be silent.
"Laet, I've loved you almost from the moment I met you. Long before I knew you were my flame, or that I could even hope to have what we have now ..."
"Graves: ...now that you've addicted me to snuggles I demand them."
If this is an example of how the future stories of this series will be told I can't wait!
Astonishing serie!!! Different but Love it so much!!!
Contains: a grumpy dragon, a romantic dragon, and a big friendship, a flame, a knot, and a big scandal.
OMG. Finally a book with 154 pages, I knew and believed in the immense talent of this author. I have been waiting for a book with more pages for a long time. She manages to do it without denaturalizing her writing style or even her ability to keep us on the edge of our seats. We fall as always in admiration with her characters and their cune. Again like the previous books of this new series, this one is more centered on the cune, more dramatic romantic and less humorous. But just as interesting as the other books written by this author
In this book, the characters are of a whole depth, fragile in their hard personality. As their story develops, they each perform acts of selflessness filled with emotion that make us feel the fullness of what they are feeling.
Check it out to find out what happens to a couple destined to be together when a marriage contract with a stranger gets in their way.
So I'll admit I haven't read the first books of the series yet, something which I will soon remedy, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this one. It had everything I've come to expect from a Light book. Awesome characters, swoony fated romance, and on top of it all action to drive the plot forward. I loved the grumpy dragon Graves paired with the hopelessly romantic Laet. I even cried at one point from the sheer amount of feelings. Definitely a series to add to your list if you're a fan of Light's work, or if you love sweet fated mate MPREG stories.
Anything written by J. D. Light is an absolute must for me! ...just thought I'd put that out there first. This series is fantastic! This story was just so adorable in how clueless the main couple is to what is so obvious to others. I tend to think that the love that's realized in cases like these is just that much more beautiful. They face what seems to be an impossible hurdle and definitely some tear-jerking moments. Their friends/family are right there with them throughout though and the humor is off the charts! A must read!
J.D Light has never disappointed me! I’ve read most if not all of J.D light’s books and I am telling you I have not been disappointed! The storylines are well written easy to follow, and then you have the spicy scenes *chefs kiss* the description put into every scenes mannnnn it’s definitely worthy the read!! In this book you get a friends to lovers vibe/ and insta-love with sweet sappy moments and moments that will level you wanting more!! I loved/enjoyed reading Laet and Graves story can’t wait to read what’s next!
Loved the story and the characters. I wish there was more! I enjoyed the side characters and am excited that book 3 is planned for Barik and Daer. The epilogue was epic and I even got teary eyed. There was great banter between all characters. I loved how Laet and Graves loved each other but were oblivious about how the other felt about them. It was great to watch them get together. There were a few typos and that's why it's not 5 stars for me.
I am loving this new J.D. Light series with dragons, dragons, and more dragons. Scalded is Laet and Graves' story and it's full of tortured longing and pure romance, with some light drama thrown in to stir the pot. Best friends who hide their true feelings end up with the deepest love possible. Throw in some old laws causing issues, meddling friends, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book.
I'm sure everyone and their mom noticed that the name in the blurb is not the actual name of the character. That's the .5 star but because I just love JD light and this series so much I had to round up. Just HAD to you understand. This book is everything you could possibly love about a JD light story: characters that you want to hug, humor, heat, and a plot keeps you interested. great series, great story, can't freaking wait for more!!
This was a really cute book where Laet finally admitted his feelings for Graves who returned those same feelings. The little bit of action thrown in was nice to balance out the sweetness of the couple. I love that this was a stand alone in a series, and while it is always more fun to read the series, that you could just pick this book up and go. I cannot wait for the next one!
Funny, sweet and the baddies get what’s coming to them
This was just what I’d expect from JD Light. The romance was sweet and fuzzy (even if the MCs were hopelessly oblivious in the most adorable ways) and there was just a little action (primarily in the form of a certain human threatening to make the baddies into dragon sushi). Absolutely loved it!
JD Light has hit it out of the park yet again. I loved the dynamic between sweet Laet and grumpy Graves. The build up to their relationship was perfect. This book has it all - hopeless romantics, grumpy dragons, an arch nemesis, baby dragons, a great storyline, and amusing antics. Really looking forward to book 3.
Loved Laet and Graves! These two were so obviously into each other and so oblivious to it that the book was super fun to read. It warms your heart to see how they love and protect each other. And their baby has the cutest name!

Graves and Laet are the last to know that they are each other's Flame. Everyone else has guessed. The way they dance around each other is quite sweet. This friends to lovers book has a bit of excitement, a bit of angst. The HEA is quite satisfying.
I love this series - it's funny, charming, with some sexy thrown in. I absolutely fell for this couple and the other characters are so entertaining. On to.book three.
Late and Graves were one of my favorite parts of the first book in the series so it was great to get them tie entire book. I’m really loving this series!
I liked the dynamics of the relationship better than in the first book. But Laet is no fun at all. So I ended up a little bored. Aidyn was highlight of this story
