Nobody combines heart-pounding action with emotional investment the way KJ Harrowick does! This is a fabulous introduction to Jaden for those who haven't read Bloodflower and incredible backstory for those who are already in love with the world and characters Harrowick so masterfully created. Let yourself get swept up. You won't regret it!

Light Beyond the Glass is an action-packed novelette that follows Jaden as she and her boyfriend attempt to escape from those who want them caged or dead. K.J. Harrowick does such a great job painting the relationship between these characters and giving a strong sense of their personalities right away. The world building is incredibly unique, blending sci-fi tech with magic on a moon trapped within the ring of a giant starship. There's love, danger, hope, despair, and everything in between.

Light Beyond the Glass is an emotional adrenaline rush, and a great lead-up to the novel Bloodflower. Definitely check it out!

Harrowick blurs the lines between science fiction and fantasy in her Halon stories. This story is a great introduction to her world, her intense mastery of magic and emotion, and her kick-ass characters. A great prequel to Bloodflower, this story gives a closer look at the love that haunts Jaden and explains the lengths she will and has gone to to reclaim it.

What a great prequel. Wow! Okay, so I already know what happens in Bloodflower and yet my emotions are all still on high alert and I may just have to go read it again to get my fix? *So good!* Loved getting to meet Kale for real and see how it all started. Highly recommend you check this out and then immediately dive into Bloodflower.

As far as prologue novellas go, this series is well led by the story told within. I feel that this is one of the situations where the story moves so fast up front that you somewhat need to understand the first book to appreciate the novella, making this a fitting book 1.5 instead of book 0.5.

Another fantastic read in The Hidden Flames Artifact series. It was a bit bittersweet to see Jaden and Kale interact. It was great to fill in the blanks a bit more about her origin and what's at the core. I can't wait for book 2.

Good, fast paced story. Helpful as backstory to understand Bloodflower a little better. Could have spent more time developing the world and the characters, but still an enjoyable read.
