The reader can find here what the Bible says and where. Major points are set forth in outline form for easy location and understanding.

This book offers more information about doctrines than many other books written for laymen, but it is concise and simple in its presentation. Everyone who wants to understand his beliefs will find it helpful, a book to read through and one to refer to again and again.

The book is well-organized, concise, yet covers a lot of ground. When there is more than one interpretation on doctrine it seems to me the author fairly summarizes the competing views and ultimately ends with the view that the Baptists adopt. I was never off-put but the way it was stated, in fact the Baptists seemed to reach the only rational conclusion when consulting scripture. This brings up a major plus for the book. Scripture is cited in the text for points made, so the reader can check easily. The style is not flowery, very factual, and never wastes a word. It is not preachy. I debated whether to give it 5 stars, since the book delivered on all it promised: fundamental points were covered, clearly and for the layman, and there wasn't any non-fundamental fluff. It was entertaining to me in the way it answered many questions I had had in my years of being Christian, and firmed up other beliefs in its systematic, A to Z approach. I want to compare other similar books to see how they compare to this one. I can't imagine another being as page-for-page rewarding. It was like the doctor found your health problem and prescribed the drugs, all without cold hands, chit-chat or a long wait in the reception area.

It was a good look at some of the fundamentals of the faith from the Baptist perspective. I used this book to lead a sunday school class and took on average a chapter a week. The study was a great study and elicited plenty of discussion and answered many questions that I and the people in the class had about what we believe as Baptists.

I don't agree with every detail of the book, but overall, it is a good book for the layperson to read in order to learn more about Christian doctrine, especially from a Baptist standpoint.
