With kingdoms in ruins for generations, the Fae Lords have been scouring their own lands for the elusive crystal, said to be the only thing that can save their world from dying completely. And although their situation gets a little more dire each year, Fae Lord Karou has decided to take a vacation….
He insists that he and his three bonded men, along with Enyo - who refuses to be bonded and have his freedom stripped away - accompany him to the cold wintery resort of the Lush Pines Ski Lodge. While Enyo is already pissed that they’re wasting days they don’t have balls deep in snow, things only become worse as they get caught in a magical storm that literally buries them.
Now trapped, the fae find themselves surrounded by a lodge that comes to life with things that go bump in the night and walls that will literally take a bite out of you. Just as things get a little precarious, Enyo meets a feisty fox shifter that changes his entire world, especially when Karou decides that she’s destined to be HIS and the queen to his kingdom!
Crea lives in upstate New York with her dog and husband. She has been writing since grade school, when her second grade teacher had her class keep writing journals. She has a habit of creating secondary, and often time tertiary, characters that take over her stories. When she can't fall asleep at night, she thinks up new scenes for her characters to act out. This, of course, is how most of her meant-to-be-thrown-away characters tend to end up front and center - and utterly swoon-worthy! Don't ask her how many book boyfriends she has...
When not writing, Crea is an avid reader. Her TBR pile is several hundred books high (don't even look at her kindle wish list or the unread books on her tablet). Sometimes, she enjoys crafting; sometimes, exploring nature; sometimes, traveling. Mostly, she enjoys putting her characters on paper and breathing life into them. Oh, and sleeping. Crea loves to sleep!
I really liked the fact that the main character in this (which isnt Karou as the title of the book would suggest) RH book was male. I dont think ive read a book with this dynamic before and i found it refreshingly different in that respect but it was so bloody good.
Enyo (who is the lead in this book) is ostracized within his close friendship with Karou, Lark, Creed and Whisper and their intimate relationship that they all have together after they are all bound to the Fae Prince - Karou. My heart went out to him because he came across as lonely right up until he met Kyla. I really liked Kyla's sweet and playful nature which is what kind of linked them all together. With some very steamy scenarios. The relationship between all of them was built up slowly mainly because there was plenty of hurt that they were carrying but i kind of liked that. It gave us time us to discover each character individually.
It was a sweet read with characters i really liked but with that ending it felt like there was more to come from all of them in the future??? I hope so
All the feels. This book showcased the emotional journey of the male main character Enyo. As he reached his breaking point, he found Kyla, a fox shifter, who helped hold him together. The forced confinement to the lodge due to the mage storm helped create new bonds between his old lovers, Kyla and himself. The characters are beautifully written and the story engaging. As Enyo sets out on his new path, I can’t help wondering what happens next.
Karou By Crea Reitan Fae Lords Book #1 Paranormal | Romance | Polyromance
Crea Reitan has another hit on her hands with Karou, the first book in the Fae Lords series. When Crea announced this book I was excited because I'm still fairly new to Crea's work and I have yet to read a fae book by her. Not to choose a favorite supe, but the fae are my favorite and I just knew Crea was gonna bring her unique brand of fantastical to the fae and I wasn't wrong. The story surprised me right away, the book is named Karou and Karou is a major character (he's the fae lord) but the story isn't told from his perspective, it's told from Enyo and Kayla's perspectives.
Enyo is basically Karou's General and is determined to save Faery by finding the missing crystal. Enyo is determined, caring, stubborn, and grumpy. He's working really hard to find the crystal to save Faery pretty much by himself and he's hit a wall, totally stumped on how to move around a problem. Not to mention that he's been in a fight with his four best friends turned lovers for a long time and is too stubborn to even hear them out. I like Enyo a lot and while I can understand his position his stubbornness also added to things.
Then there's Kayla, a fox shifter who is the sweetest, kindest, most understanding person I have ever read about. She's curious and loves to learn new things, loves to travel. Kayla and Enyo hit it off fantastically well, she's just what he needs and maybe more. Kayla surprised me by how open she was to things, I mean sure she realizes that things are moving fast and questions pop up in her head but ultimately she follows her instincts and things turn out really good. Of course, it wouldn't be a Crea book without a bunch of really hot and steamy scenes. I loved it.
Crea really hit the emotions hard in this one. A centuries-long relationship between five best friends is in turmoil, Enyo wants his loves but refuses to lose his freedom, miscommunication, and so much raw hurt. Then just when things couldn't get worse, they do because everything turns into a complicated mess. It hurt to see them all struggle but they work things out, for the most part, it wasn't a HEA but things were on the road to healing. I would have preferred a HEA but this wasn't bad.
Omg, I loved the setting of a luxury mountain lodge brimming with decadence from the art to the food to the decor, everything was dreamy. Crea did a wonderful job creating the scene, not gonna lie I wish it was a real place that I could visit. Well, that is before things got weird and it became like something from the Shinning mixed with a haunted house. Seriously went from wonderful winter wonderland to Halloween scare fest. The fae history was awesome. How Faery is divided up into seven kingdoms, the crystals, and the queens was good but it was the brief touches of several fae races that have gone extinct, ancient sites, and other things that were really cool. However, there was a lot of weirdness, things that everyone knows as history but were never written down, what happened to other cultures is unknown, and many more mysteries pop up. Plus I really want to know about Karou and the bindings, it's very secretive and caused so many problems. I'm just hoping we get some answers in the upcoming books.
Karou was everything and more, Crea brought the fae out. The story was more than I could have hoped for, it was compelling, I instantly loved the characters, and had emotionally heavy moments. Not to mention, with it being Crea it was wonderfully unique and hot as heck. Karou ended on a bittersweet note but I regret nothing. I'm not quite sure how the series is gonna be played out but I think each book is a standalone while being connected with the other book eventually telling an overall arc. Even if that's not the case I will still be excitedly awaiting the next book in the series.
This book is filled with cute ass moments, grovelling and of course steam. You can always rely on Reitan’s books to have more steam than a sauna. After dealing with the weight of trying to save the fae kingdoms and being prevented from having romantic relations with his life time friends and lovers, unless he binds himself to Karou, Enyo has reached his breaking point. This standalone follows Enyo in his journey in letting things go, forgiveness and finding new love with our newly single Kyla. With a magical storm stirring up chaos in a once relaxing, luxurious ski lodge, our two leading characters find solace with each other. I absolutely adore how quickly they both become smitten with each other. I will also add I love how smitten the other guys were with her and how smitten I am with the absolute sweetheart Lark, he gives me total Labrador vibes and I am here for it. I swear I just want to pinch all of their cheeks and tell them how cute they are, then pinch their other cheeks and see how firm they are. Even with this book taking place over a short period of time, this fast burn romance does not feel so fast with how engrossed with the story you become. With the details surrounding the lodge and the events that take place, I found myself desperately needing to be wrapped up in a cosy blanket in front of a roaring fire, with a mug of hot chocolate watching snow fall.
Standalone’s are always a hit or miss for me. Too many times I've read a book that was paced perfectly for the first 80%, but then loses its flow when the author realises it's too close to the end. Loose ends are left behind, the problems that have plagued characters from the start are too quickly resolved, questions are left unanswered! All of which leave you unsatisfied when you reach its conclusion. Karou was a slight miss for me. Though there is a HEA so many things were left unresolved, certain aspects were left unexplored and there wasn’t nearly enough grovelling from a certain someone for me to be happy with how we left this group of characters. With this story’s bittersweet conclusion, it felt more of a HFN ending even though things with Enyo were good! He finally got to break free of everything that were stressful and painful and finally get everything he wanted and deserved. It was a great story that I found myself laughing at, saying “aaaww” a couple of times, and getting teary a few times. I fully appreciate Reitan’s creativity and amazing skill of bringing a book to life, but I wish this was a duet just so we could investigate the mysteries she’s teased us and yet again pull an all nighter exploring yet another unique universe she’s fabricated. It's almost heartbreaking to be unable to fully delve into the world of Reitan’s creations. It's as though you are l watching everyone have fun and you're only allowed to watch the sidelines, let me play Crea!! Stop teasing me with these fantastical places with their mysteries and magic!! I do hope this becomes a series instead of standalone, I'll even accept and love if, like The Harem Project, it follows a new set of characters with every book.
Karou, the first book in the Fae Lords series by Crea Reitan was a fun captivating dive into a new magical world of the kingdoms of the fae if you’re a fan of fairytale fantasy romances that have a fantastic plot, tons of action, angst and mysterious suspense in a magical world featuring a variety of characters involved in a hot and steamy polyamorous relationship then this is the one for you!
This is a story of a life time friendship/relationship between Lord Karou, his three super sexy bonded men Lark, Creed, Whisper and his military strategist Enyo who has dealt with so much on his plate due to carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders while trying to save the fae kingdom from falling, that he’s reluctant to form that final connection with his friends turned lovers.
So when a vacation is suggested the five men set out on journey that little did they know would change everything. Especially when they find themselves trapped in the Lush Pines Ski Lodge after a magical storm comes through burying them in the middle of the winter wonderland that’s scarily familiar to the hotel in the Shining, and not alone like they thought because there also happens to be a feisty fox shifter named Kyla trapped with them. And let the fun begin!!!
This is a story full of pain, forgiveness, finding new love and establishing old bonds that will leave you captivated. I love how Enyo and Kayla instantly connected and how the others felt the same but mostly I loved how Enyo was finally able to find some peace and freedom from the stress, pain and reluctance to join the guys in order to get what he so badly needed.
Overall this story was an intriguing mesh of so many well loved tropes and I loved how the story unfolded and was told from different perspectives. The ending was definitely unique and even though its geared as a stand-alone, with so many questions still being unanswered and mysteries hinted at remaining unclear, I do hope for the chance to see more of this world and these characters again sometime soon! If you’re a fan of fast burn, insta love steamy connection fae romances then this is the one for you!
I really appreciate this authour’s ability to bring the world in a book to life. The attention to detail and the way the surroundings are described makes it so easy to “picture” this story in your head. It ran like a movie through my mind! While this is titled Karou, that fae lord isn’t who this story solely focuses on, while his actions are what led this particular journey to start, this book focuses on Enyo, who is very loved by Karou, but they are in a difficult spot in their relationship. Enyo is one of Karou’s near and dear lovers and friend whom he has drawn a line for. To be with him and his other lovers/friends he must also become bound to him, like the others.( we are led to believe there is a reason for the binding that they cannot explain unless he becomes bound) Enyo refuses and continues to try and find a solution to why fairie is dying, this leads to the entire group of men to take a vacation at a well known resort in the between . Karou and the others insist that Enyo needs a break. This is where the real adventure starts. We meet Kyla, who is a fox shifter, but maybe more than that? Enyo and Kyla connect immediately and this book really focuses on their relationship ( and the other men) while also contending with a magical storm that leaves them stuck inside the lodge , but they are not exactly safe in the lodge as the storm outside brings things inside to life and that are not friendly. This story, while entertaining and spicy, leaves a lot of questions unanswered that I hope we get to see some answers in the next book. Especially for Karou. I was really intrigued by what we did get to see in this book and I look forward to finding out more. I have lots of questions! Overall though, I felt this book did a great job introducing us to the characters and setting up a really unique world that I am excited to see more of!
Despite this book being named Karou, it mainly followed Enyo and his journey, with Karou being the main source of his heartache. The pain that Enyo had been put through at the hands of Karou for years had me feeling so sorry for him, the fact that what he once loved was taken from him. I definitely don't approve of Karou's approach to trying to get Enyo to come back to him and his lovers. From forced separation to forced proximity, Karou was pretty much grabbing at straws in hopes of finally pushing Enyo over the edge and having him fall in line. To know and clearly see that he was causing Enyo's unhappiness but still continuing with his methods thinking everything would go back to the way it once was so selfish of him, especially when it involved the hearts of people other than himself as well.
Kyla was like a breath of fresh air for Enyo. I loved her kindness and her sweet personality, how supportive she was, and how she brought calmness to Enyo, allowing him to begin healing everything that had once been broken. To be withheld from love for such a long time and finally feeling the freedom to be able to love again is something Kyla was able to give him even though they didn't know each other for very long.
The ending of this book didn't end on much of a cliffhanger but it was more open ended. I think there is a lot more of this world to see, especially with the need of the crystal being returned to its proper place to bring Faery back to full health as well as the continuation of the relationships between Enyo, Kyla, Lark, Whisper, Creed, and eventually Karou. I'm hoping that if there is a next book that it involves a lot of trust building, earning forgiveness, learning lessons, and groveling.
Soo another book of Crea's. I love Creas writing, it's so unfiltered and direct, that I can link with every character she creates. Karou is the name of the book, tho it's a little misleading. Karou is one of the Fae Lords, and he has bound 3 of his most trusted lovers and loved friends to him. That leaves Enyo, he is the main character of this book and I really enjoyed seeing this new world thru his eyes. Enyo doesn't want to be bound because binding himself to Karou would mean to give up aspects of life that Enyo values way too much. Besides the over all Plot of Faery being sick and dying and Enyo being the one trying to find a solution, this book concentrates more on the interpersonal aspects of their relationship. Karou and his lovers force him to go on vacation with them to a neutral place, the Between. The resort they chose seems very popular and is heavily frequented. When a quirky Fox-shifter female pops up, everything changes for Karou. And besides the whole relationship Drama, they even have to solve the mystery regarding the resort that becomes quite blood thirsty out of a sudden and a brewing storm that rages over the Between and makes it impossible to leave. It ends on a HFN, which kinda irks me and is also why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I'm sure we'll revisit those characters as the journey progresses in the other books because obviously unfinished business regarding Karou and his lovers, and Faery needs to be saved or the Fae are doomed to go extinct. Also, I can't wait to see what the characters will find when they travel together with their lovely Fox.
He wouldn’t stifle my growth but be the latticework that would allow me to reach higher. He wouldn’t crowd me or suffocate me… And he wouldn’t manipulate me into being what he wants. Because he wanted me exactly the way I am.
This author is quite new to me, but I'm starting to really appreciate the originality of her work. While I read a lot of books with poly relationships, I was curious about a book that doesn't start from the perspective of "the female" of the group. Even though Kyla has a crucial role, Karou is mostly Enyo's story, and I really enjoyed the different perspective. More than that though, the world building in this book is superb! There are a lot of stories about fae out there, and this one is entirely different. I loved the creativity, and the author only showed a tiny bit of the world she created in this book, so it feels like there is so much more awesomeness to come!
Another thing I enjoyed is how this book closes down a part of the story, and leaves the bigger storyline to flow throughout the series. It means no real cliffhanger, just some lingering questions and things to look forward to. There is a lot I want to discover in this series: characters like Lark, Whisper and Karou, the rest of the world this author created, and the mystery that connects all these people. I highly recommend this series to everyone who wants to hear it!
I was surprised by this book. Although the title is Karou, this book follows Enyo through a good majority of the story. I can vibe with Enyo - overworked, underappreciated, and sometimes quite lonely. We can ALL relate to Enyo's struggle when his boss/former lover/Lord Karou decides to take a vacation when times are tough. It's frustrating to feel helpless and defeated, and then to go on 'vacation' and be expected to relax when things are quite literally falling apart. Throughout the book, we learn that there's high tension about the "Binding" topic and about the relationship of the group, from which Enyo is now excluded. When we start to get the feeling that Enyo is destined to be alone forever, we meet another interesting character: miss Kyla! Watching this story develop, I thought I would be able to predict what would happen next. I found that to be true only a small fraction of the time. The unexpected twists were quite refreshing! Although there probably isn't as much spice as you'd expect, the scenes we do get are very detailed and incredibly HAWT! Most of all I enjoyed watching Enyo evolve and create his own path. We are still unclear about several things in the story by the end of the book. I see that it's listed as book #1, so we can only hope that we will continue to follow these characters and watch the story grow and develop!
Something different This book has an interesting premise in that the Faeworld is slowly dying and they’re in search of a Crystal to restore the lands. The responsibility of this is a role that Enyo has taken on…although the book is named for Karou the Fae Lord I would certainly say the MMC is Enyo and his story of how he’s separated from his harem…Karou does not particularly come out in the best light here. Our FMC Kyla is a fox shifter and manages to attract Enyo’s attention although there may be a whole lot more to that connection then either of them realises! The relationship between them is believable and has a Insta love written all over it 😁 I will give it the author they do create chemistry! There is plenty of angst in this one with the divide between Enyo and his previous lovers…..can Kyla be the one to help them?? As a series starter this is a good introduction to the premise that I’m assuming will be picked up in the next books in this shared world…however it is a standalone and for me there are too many unanswered questions left open which I don’t know when/will be addressed in the other connected books. May continue the series in between other reads to see if the open questions are addressed…
“You don’t understand. And we can’t make you understand unless you let us in.”
Here is what makes Karou, book 1 in Creat Reitan’s Fae Lords series, so very unique. This is ultimately about a group of men who care so deeply about each other, that they make choices, some they ultimately regret, all in the name of honoring each other. Karou, one Fae Lord, is the linch pin in this story’s making.
Military Strategist for Karou, Enyo has been in pain for decades, as he has been separated from those he holds most dear to his heart. As he struggles daily to choose his own path, he is overwhelmed when unexpectedly meeting another puzzle piece that fits into his soul. The meeting of minds and bodies are sensually depicted and emotionally charged.
Karou is the story about the rearrangement of Enyo’s heart puzzle pieces, in the hope that they can help him start to heal.
There is an additional magical component of the story that brings upheaval to all of the fae and supernatural beings, while they are stranded together. It creates a sense of urgency that allows these individuals to find a new perspective, and may even help the survival for all of kingdoms of Faery.
Taking a vacation when the Fae world is crumbling and dying around you seems like a sublimely bad life choice but that is exactly what Fae lord Karou decides to do, dragging his bonded men, plus one, along with him. This is no happy family vacation. This book hits all the emotional ranges for me: anger, betrayal, hope, love, loss. While the world they come from is slowly dying, so is the love and friendship between Enyo, Creed, Whisper, Lark and Karou. Betrayed and abandoned by his lovers, Enyo is ready to walk away from it all when a sassy little fox reawakens a desire within him and gives him something worth fighting for. The storyline is fresh and entertaining. The author did a great job of really giving each of the guys their own individual personalities and attributes, different reasons to love them all. Kyla is a great FMC. She's done with fake people and is ready to move on with her life, away from her toxic ex....although he may not be done with her. I loved the story and the interplay between the characters. The world building was beautifully done, and I can't wait to see what is next for these characters in upcoming books.
The world is in peril and the Fae Lord Karou decides this is the perfect time to go vacationing. Along with his bonded men, and Enyo, they set off to a winter resort, much to the displeasure of Enyo. But when they find themselves trapped there and feeling less and less hopeful, a fox shifter enters the picture and changes everything.
I have to give major credit to Crea Reitan for giving us a completely different outlook on reverse harems. This book focuses on Enyo and his feelings and perspectives rather than Kyla, our FMC. I loved this twist and it made me appreciate the harem aspect more because of it.
I still have a lot of questions and issues with some of the plot points. The whole vacation thing never made sense to me and felt like it was just a way for the author to give Kyla and the men a way to meet. The story pacing was also off for me. It was a weird point of feeling rushed, but also moving slow? As in, plot points come and go quickly, but the progress of the story and getting to the main event felt like it took forever?
This book is the continuation of the short story (first 6 chapters) which were previously published in an anthology, and ever since reading them I've been waiting for this! As usual Crea has a fresh way of writing and portraying her characters. The main character here is Enyo a fae in the court of Karou (one of the fae lords) at a time where all fae lands are dying. Enyo has dedicated most of his life to find a solution for this but he reached a point where no more ideas appear to him so Karou forces him on a holiday with him and their 3 best friends/lovers, however their relationships are all strained due to Karou's actions. When on holiday they get trapped in the lodge because of a storm and Enyo mets Kyla, a secret shifter on holiday after a big breakup. Well they met and whilst trapped inside the cabin find they're just what each other needs... well them and maybe the friends. In between a lot of intrigue and mystery, a murderer house and a slowly less self-centred fae lord. Really hope the story continues because that ending needs more!
Karou is the first book in the Fae Lords series and I'm down on my knees begging for more from these characters. I absolutely loved this book. It's not often that you get a book with a reverse harem trope with the focus being the male main characters, but that's exactly what you get with this book. When you first start reading you aren't sure who is the main character, but as you get deeper into the story it becomes very clear. I loved this shift from the norm and that made this book really hard to put down for me. Yes, there is a main female character, but the guys get center stage this time around. This storyline is multi-faceted and keeps you page-turning as it goes beyond just the relationship between the guys...which is not all well. You get the intro of the female MC, and then you get danger and drama. I loved it! This book has an ending like a stand alone novel, but I'm really hoping that we come back to these characters and this world. I'm hungry for more! This book earns 5 out of 5 stars.
This RH PNR is a very refreshing book in this genre because finally, finally, there is a male lead who is in the center of attention and whose steps the reader is following. And it also isn't the Fae Lord whose name gives the title to the book. Enyo, a strong and independent man who is refusing to have his will bent and bound by Karou, isn't happy about the Fae Lord's decision to go for a vacation when the situation in the lands gets from bad to worse. Even more gets irritated when they get trapped, but the real drama starts when Kyla, a beautiful shifter, enters the scene and starts to wreak havoc in the relationships of the harem.. It was a nice and fast read, with both sweet and hot moments, gradual character development and slow burn romance. There was enough conflict, misunderstanding, and clashing of personalities that needed to be communicated to sort things out, which made the whole mess more interesting. The author gave the characters plenty room for development, trapped by the circumstances, and I enjoyed the interactions until the last page.
Enyo has been friends with and in love with Whisper, Lark, Creed, and flippin’ Karou since they were children. Things were perfect for the quintet until Flippin’ Fae Lord Karou decided to change things up and demand what Enyo would not give up. For 20 years Enyo has watched his best friends become even closer while being denied their touch, their love. Until flippin’ Karou decides a vacation is in order and books a suite with one bed.
Kyla has busted ended a three-year relationship she regrets immensely but decides to keep the vacation she booked for two. A magical storm hits the ski resort and Kyla finds herself literally in Enyo’s arms.
The result is a pretty fast-paced, action packed, steam filled read. Battling internal and external forces leaves Enyo completely off-kilter and Kyla realizing how much time she’d wasted. Readers will enjoy tue pacing and world building for this new series in which the land of the fae is dying and at present, no one knows how to fix it.
Not your typical reverse harem, this story takes place centering itself on the actions and feelings of one of the harem men, instead of focusing on the single female. An interesting concept, to say the least, because normally it is all about her, and her problems. And while yes, we do get scenes from her pov, and one of the problems is attached to her, it was nice to see the men struggle with their own things as well. There are still hot and steamy scenes, for those who want them. A lighthearted read, it is an almost why choose for one member is not part of the group…. Yet… Hopefully there will be other stories involving these men. Maybe from Lark’s perspective, being the one who definitely needs the most cuddles after being touch deprived for so long. My heart aches for him the most.
The lack of a star is because there were quite a few things repeated, some in different ways but still the same thing nonetheless.
Yet again, Crea Reitan managed to surprise me with one of her books. Karou is the first book of her new Fae Lords series. The story revolves mainly around Enyo, a fae who doesn't want to be bound to Karou, Fae Lord, like his other lovers were. In this world where Faery is slowly dying, Enyo is seemingly the only one looking for a solution. He's then forced on a vacacion with Karou, Lark, Creed and Whisper where they end up trapped in a murderous ski lodge (yeah, you read that right) because of a magical storm and they meet the FMC, Kyla. Where the story is unusual is actually in the harem's dynamics. I was really surprised to see the direction in which it went and could never have guessed how it ended. I don't want to say too much because of spoilers but let me tell you I NEVER saw this type of ending in an RH book. Are you curious now? Only way to know what I'm talking about is to read the book!
I really enjoyed the start to the series. I know it's listed as a standalone but.... there is soo much unfinished business. I can not wait to find out more about these Fae men. We meet Karou as the fae lord. But the book I feel is more centered around Kyla and Enyo. Karou decides he is going to take a vacation. This is where we meet Kyla. She is on a vacation by herself after a break up with a jerk. We also meet Enyo. He is forced to go on a vacation with the fae lord and his bonded. While at this mountain lodge they all get snowed in together. There is a lot of background build with Enyo and the other fae. Then Kyla and Enyo meet. Talk about some steam!!! Off the charts hot. Now they must try to figure out what is going on with the magical store and the lodge. I loved how this book just flowed. It was a really good read. I breezed right through it. I can not wait to see where the author takes us next!!!
I really enjoyed this book. Another awesome story from the author. If you love books with supernatural creatures in it but Fae being the main creature then this one’s for you. If you like stories where the man group of lovers are guys ten you’ll love this one. Then as the story progresses they find a girl that fits them all. Then you’ll love it. Our main character Enyo is trying to save his home. Faerie is not fairing so well. With no luck on saving faerie his Fae Lord send them all on a vacation. He is forced to go on vacation with Karou, Whisper, Lark and Creed. They used to all be involved until Enyo didn’t want to be bonded. While on vacation Enyo meets Kyla. They have an instant connection. Then trouble starts when they are trapped by a magical storm. Will Enyo get back with his men? Will Enyo and Kyla work out? Will they find out who or what’s causing the storm? Check this book out to get all the answers and then some.
Well. Karou is an a-hole! Spoiler alert! Just kidding - it's in the first chapter. 😏 Anywho - Enyo sucked me in from the get go, and his fury over Karou's controlling ways by trying to bind his will makes me feel for him and makes me angry on his behalf. "Although he hadn't TAKEN everything from me, he had absolutely taken everything from me." The relationship between Enyo, Lark, Creed, Whisper and Karou is broken, but I love how you really get to know them and even though this vacation turns out QUITE differently than what Karou had hoped for, I'm hoping for plenty of more stories of them and Kyla in coming books. This book is filled with beautiful scenery, plenty of poly loving in all combinations, a haunted cabin that tries to eat you and adventure and I can't wait to see what the other Fae Lord books brings us. And, murderous tendencies aside - I need a vacation at that lodge! 😁
Everybody loves vacations and taking breaks right? Well not for Enyo he wants nothing to do with this vacation to the beautiful ski lodge he is being forced to attend with his long time friends and one time lovers. His lord Karou is insisting on it. Well the vacation turns out to be less than relaxing when the weather and hotel starts acting weird. Throw in heated tempers, new love interest, longing and a little bit of drama and boom you have an amazing read. Told from a mostly male point of view through Enyos it’s a different kind of read. I enjoy the authors different tales and views in her story’s and throws in a different style I’m really enjoying. Really if you have a chance to read her books I would recommend reading them. I have learned through reading her books that she might not always give you the end you want but it’s usually an end you will at least embrace.
The Fae Lords series is off to a good start with book one. It’s different from other books I have read. It’s told from mostly Enyo POV one of the men in the harem not the FMC. It is a nice refreshing change of pace from the usual RH books. Karou forces Enyo to accompany him and his bound men, Creed, Lark, and Whisper, on vacation to a ski lodge. I loved how each man has differences in personalities. It make you just love them more. Enyo struggles with trying to save their world even when he has been betrayed by the ones he cares for. While at the ski lodge he meets Kyla a fox shifter that helps to renew his faith in the fight to save his world. She is the healing touch that he needs. The world building in this book was fantastic. A winter wonderland turn Halloween nightmare. Want to know more about the mystery of how it became that way. Can’t wait to read more in this world.
Before I read this book, I got the warning that the main character is not the female. I didn't really think that that would make a lot of difference to me. It didn't and I actually really liked it, for me it could have been even more focused on Enyo. But when I started writing this review I noticed that I needed to turn a switch in my brain. I was automatically thinking about telling the background of Kayla instead of Enyo.
You're probably wondering; Enyo?? Who is that? And why haven't I heard about Karou? Karou is a character in the book, but he isn't the main character. His actions were the catalyst to a lot of what is happening in the book. Enyo was happily in a relationship with Karou, Whisper, Lark and Creed. Until Karou decided that everyone had to bind themselves to him. The others went along with it, but Enyo refused.
This was the first reverse harem I have read from a mostly male POV, and it was fantastic. Enyo was the point of view we had most often, and he was a terrific character which I was strong emotionally invested in. We also got POV from Kyla which is the only female in the harem. I wish we got a little more of her in the story, but her character didn’t feel unfinished at all. My favorite from the harem was Whisper because he is the quiet observer of the group which I most identify with. I didn’t realize this was a standalone until the end and though the story was wrapped up there are still some lingering things from Karou’s character that I hope will be finished in the rest of the Fae Lords series.
Enyo has been trying to find a way to save Faery for the last twenty plus years. Whisper, Creed and Lark betrayed him by Binding with Karou the Fae Lord, he never wanted to have his will taken away and he feels that is what would happen. But for the last twenty years Karou has forbid Whisper, Lark and Creed from touching Enyo and cast him out. He is now being forced into a vacation after failed attempts, but a storm pushes an adorable fox into his path. Kyla left her lying ex boyfriend to come on a vactation, and meets the group of men above as a freak storm forces them together. This was spicy and I really enjoyed learning more about these characters, I am interested to see what Karou's reasoning will be. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
This is a story that really brought out the feels as we start the journey to figure out why the Fae lands are dying. This is the first installment of the series but we do get a HFN at the end with overarching plot threads that will continue on with the next books. Enyo and his old lovers meet Kyla, a fox shifter, and get magically snowed in together. This forced proximity really let these wonderful characters bond - let the steamy times roll ;P I really enjoyed this lighthearted read and loved how things developed for the characters. I can't wait for the next book to see what's next. I should mention that this story is told by Enyo's POV which was a fun twist on a Why Choose romance, where normally we get the gal's POV. Good fun!
While the book is about Karou, one of the Fae Lords, I for one felt like Enyo definitely got more of a leading role throughout the story. This definitely isn't an issue cause I absolutely adored him as a character. He's basically the tactical guy in Karou's part of Faery and close friends/lovers with the Fae Lord and also Whisper, Lark and Creed. They've known each other for years and it's all going fine and dandy until Karou forces them to bind themselves to him, but Enyo refuses. They all end up taking a trip to the Between and it mostly goes downhill from there.
Kyla, is a fox shifter who used to visit the lodge in the Between when she was younger. She plans a trip for herself and her partner, only to find out he's not who she thought he was and goes on the trip on her own. Throughout the beginning, she meets with some of the Fae men before everything goes to Hell.
The story starts off fairly M/F in the beginning but the other men do come into the relationship as the story goes on. There's a lot of steam and a lot of action a long the way and I really did enjoy this story from start to finish.
