WINNER OF COLORADO INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER ASSOCIATION PRIZE FOR WOMEN'S FICTION Book 2 of a trilogy :The life journeys of Brigid, Rosie, and Babs, beloved characters from Magold's first novel, A Beast No More, continue in The Treasured Egg. Having achieved worldwide success in their respective careers as English professor, zoologist, and NASA scientist, these women approach middle age with a yearning to reconnect with their families, especially their aging mothers, in Cleveland, Ohio. The novel takes the reader through the splendor of Africa, the magic of Ireland, and the pulse of California—always with the underlying rhythm of a woman's heartbeat. Marriage, music, romance, and cosmic explorations intertwine as the characters rely on their friendship and faith to conquer personal crises of divorce, cancer, and sexism. Dominating the narrative are the women's close relationships with their mothers, especially when confronting the ravages of Alzheimer's and the frightening inevitabilities of old age. Many ancient civilizations traditionally revered women who carried "the treasured egg," the preserver of procreation and survival of the tribes. This story of Brigid, Rosie, and Babs, and their mothers and daughters, honors those traditions of reverence.

Well, I finished your second book and I have such a satisfied feeling as if “all is right with the world.” I have three new friends who have shared their lives with me and I am inspired by them. Phyllis, you have developed them in such a way, that I, too, could laugh with them, cry with them, love with them, or be angry like them. Rosie had her soulmate by her side but she could be wife, mother, and “female person” all at once. Babs discovered how miserable love could become, discovered life as a mother and a daughter, but still was her own “female person.” She found her soulmate a second time around. Brigid was her own accomplished “female person” first and re-discovered her soulmate later. Did I cover it all? Your writing is wonderful! You drew me in as an author should. As I said with your first book, I grew up during these same years. I have had a great life but did I miss something? Did I just live as my parents wanted me to? Did I live as society dictated? These girls lived with the same questions. I loved it Phyllis-I thank you for sharing your talent.
Highly recommend reading this lovely book. Even though this is a sequel toA Beast No More, A Beast No More: Emerging from the Middle State it's not necessary to read in order to enjoy. I found this to be delightful and encouraging.
