*** This is a spin off of the Finding My Home series, Jynx’s story. You don’t need to read the Finding My Home series to enjoy this one! ***
My life got turned upside down when I got an inheritance from the grandmother I never knew existed. Of course, it came with stipulations, one of them being that I attend this rich as hell private school, not so bad, right? Wrong, I come from the wrong side of the tracks, and I thrive there. Cursing is my only language, I’m covered in tattoos, and the sound of breaking bones is like music to my ears.
I’m bored though, ever since my uncle put me on the back burner due to a small incident, I’ve been going out of my damn mind not doing the usual jobs for him, the bloody ones. So I decided to give it a go, rich bitch myself up, looking and acting nothing like the real me, unobservant, meek, and innocent. None of which I am even close to being.
I figured I’d do it for a day and then say I tried and call it quits; the problem? The Kings, Rome, Ace, Rip, Malachi, and Mason, took an instant interest in me, bringing me into their group. So I’ve been playing meek and mild for months when all I want to do is have my wicked with them, that is until they suddenly turn on me. Cruel and hurtful is not something I’m used to from them, and they’ve got the whole school backing them up.
I think it’s about time the real me came out to play, and it’s a damn shame no one can warn them it’s going to get bloody!
This is a medium burn, Reverse Harem.
Warnings: Please be advised that this book contains dark themes, including abuse, graphic violence and cursing.
Additionally, sexual themes suitable for mature audiences 18+.

Sadly after reading Ever’s story, this one was a rather underwhelming. - Jinx’s bullying from the guys and the inevitable forgiveness was rather pointless. If you cut that part out of the book it wouldn’t affect the story in any way, which makes it rather pointless as those pages could have been used to flesh out the guys a bit more, which leads to point two… - The guys are rather 2D and only seem to be there to each shallowly represent a stereotype. (E.g twins, brooding guy etc. etc.) Most of the time I can’t even tell which guy is which. So all in all I couldn’t care less about the guys even if I tried. Which is rather different from Ever’s story as I genuinely cared and remember quite a lot about each of the guys in her harem.
This book is the first in a spin off series. You do not need to read the Finding Home series to understand or enjoy this book, but you may enjoy it more if you understand the little references to the character in the other series. This book does end on a cliffhanger, though it doesn’t relate to peril to the main characters so it’s an acceptable amount of annoying to me!
This new series deals with Jynx, Ever’s friend (from the Finding Home series). It seems to be set a few years in the past in relation to that series going by the references made, but they don’t interact with those characters in this book. Jynx has been attending a fancy High School and living in a mansion for the last few months. The grandmother she didn’t know existed died and left her the entirety of her estate provided she went to that particular school and graduated. Prior to her windfall Jynx lived in a trailer park with her lazy and useless mother and lived a violent and crime filled life. Her uncle is a feared lead of a criminal enterprise and he trained Jynx from an early age. She’s been doing jobs of a violent nature for years. Though she hasn’t done any for the last year after she was severely injured.
Since being at her new school she has pretended to be a meek and mild mannered girl. She dyed her hair back to it’s original colour, took out her piercings and covered up her tattoos because she wanted to try and behave how she thought her grandmother wanted her to. She’s also been friends since she started her new school with ‘The Kings’ of the school, a tight knit group of boys who rule the school. Everything was going well until they denounced her for being a liar about having money and it lead to open season for the bullies. It seems like she isn’t the only one who has been hiding who she really is.
There is a lot of violence in this book, guns, knives and fist fights. Jynx perpetrates most of it. If you have read the Finding Home series then this book has similar amounts of casual violence in it. However, this is a slow burn Reverse Harem and though it’s obvious that is where their relationship is heading, there are no more than hot kisses in this book.
This a completely improbable book where teenagers are master hackers or trained snipers who kill without qualm. Not to mention they all find each other at a high school. However, that doesn’t stop it being a great fun read, in the same way the original series is enjoyable. There are also some typos and grammar errors but they aren’t huge in number so I was able to skate over them to a large extent and they didn’t prevent me from enjoying the story.
This was a fun read and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next.
DNF at 75% It was an alright book but I could not get over the fact that they were all 16-17. They are in there junior year of high school and already high level assassins?? She is always saying she has years of experience but what did she start killing for hire at 13??? No. There was a solid idea behind it but it does not make sense.
Edit: also she has full body tattoos? At 17?? So unrealistic
I tried to like this book, in fact, I was liking it until even the fantasy expects of this book become to damn much. This book was just way to unbelievable for its own good. And I knew this when I started to read it. There's just no way! even knowing that this is totally made up, there has to be some limits of how much this story can be believable before it becomes eye rolling. And it definitely becomes way to ridiculous the further you read. By 64% I just couldn't doing anymore.
3,5 stars actually So usually i do have a hard time with reading a spin off which is about another character that is not the fmc. I don´t know why, but this has to be the first or one of the very few times i actually have liked to read from another character. So we have seen a lil of Jynx in the finding my home series and her guys, now we get her story which is as explosive as Ever´s. I just was a little annoyed with how they all handled everything with how the guys acted being nasty cuz of their stupid ass reasons. I just wanted Jynx to let the guys prove their trust back before they started all over again. (that they could win back her trust again or something) I mean trust is a big fucking thing with how Jynx has grown up and been thru. But i am so looking forward to see more of Jynx and Ever, plus Atlas. AAnnd the ending leaves us with a cliffhanger, rip
I don’t understand how it got so many great reviews. It’s rare I DNF a book but I quit after 55 pages. If I had to see her say “persona” one more time I’d intentionally trip myself off a building. The entire story is 2 dimensional and feels like a terrible story written by a 10 year old with a vast and colorful language. The heroine constantly talked about how bada** she is and how she kills and does this and that but she would be strong one second and “hurt” the next after just saying nothing bothered her and she didn’t care about how the guys treated her. This is written like a terrible soap opera that got canceled after one show. There’s absolutely no personality to any character let alone anything else in the book. I suggest you skip this book in favor of something else. Anything else.
This story has all the components to be an epic book sure to be my fav. Unfortunately the writing and the dialogue took a hit in the mid to latter half of the book. I found myself skimming pages and likely would have DNF’d it but I’m not a quitter.
I really liked the general plot of this book, but it could use some more editing. I read it from my Kindle and there were a couple spots where the author forgot who’s perspective she was writing from (Happened in Mason’s POV), and also reference some things happening like Rip killing for our main lady, but I didn’t read or see him killing someone for her? Commas and wording etc. Skipped through a lot of time early on and almost felt like the book started a few months late? All in all I did enjoy it and am looking forward to the next book, but definitely needs some more editing to polish it off.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. Lots of action. The MFC was really strong and independent. She had her life together pretty good and knew what she wanted. I loved her.
The men I'm getting to know and they are growing on me.
I liked the subplots and secondary characters as well. Triggers: RH, violence, mention of past abuse, mention of trafficking, cussing, kissing.
Reading this book was like watching a dumpster fire roll down a hill. It almost read like a fan fiction- the characters weren’t very nuanced and there were a lot of grammatical and spelling errors. Enjoyable premise, but extremely unpolished. I’d have enjoyed the book if the grammar and spelling were fixed, and the characters were given more TLC so they’re more nuanced.
The plot feels like it was written by a child. The sex by someone who hasn't experienced any fun. Everything is klunky and makes no sense. This book was a waste of time.
This was a really great read and fast paced! A lot of grammar issues with commas that should or shouldn’t be there and some spelling errors but it was good enough to overlook, can’t wait for book 2🙏🏻
It had a good storyline and it was an AMAZING idea, but it reminded me of a wattpad story, like a 12 year old girl writing a book. It was also REALLY fast.
Blurb: My life got turned upside down when I got an inheritance from the grandmother I never knew existed. Review: I laughed for like 15 min straight when Jynx revealed her true personality.
TW: Lots of violence & cursing. Antagonists are involved in human trafficking.
Jinx inherited a ton of money from her deceased grandmother but there were stipulations. She had to go to a prestigious school and graduate from there, and her grandmother left her with a letter that left Jinx wanting to try to see how the other side lived. Book basically starts months after this happens and she has pretended to be meek, hiding her tattoos and piercings and basically acting completely opposite of how she normally acts. For months she continued living like this because of the guys she has met and didn’t want to lose. All of a sudden they treat her like trash and make her life hard but they don’t know how strong she is and all of a sudden all kinds of truths are revealed.
I like that the book started off basically with the conflict between Jinx and the guys. Her previous months were quickly described and all of a sudden the story is moving. I really liked that right off of the bat because we are told they are close and then bam, instant hurt and Jinx is silica a strong character that it would have been boring and out of the left lane to actually have to read about how meek she was.
I don’t want to spoil anything but when truths get revealed you start to question a lot of things and makes the book fly by a lot faster.
This story was recommended on Facebook to someone, and it sounded interesting and wanted to give it a go. A teenager named Jynx decides to act like a meek and mild little thing at the new school she has to start attending, hoping to stay out of trouble so she can keep an inheritance from her (unknown) grandmother. She befriends five guys who suddenly turn on her. Finally, she snaps, and the real her comes out.
The story is pretty great, so far. The only thing is that the grammar and such are atrocious. There are some spelling mistakes too, but it's mostly grammar and punctuation. Missing commas, punctuation where it shouldn't be, etc. It was definitely distracting. The wiring overall makes it seem like this author might be on the younger side and has no editor, but I could be wrong.
That aside, she has a pretty great story going, and that's the most important thing. I'd have rated it 3 stars with the other issues, but I'm really enjoying the book enough to bump it to the higher end of the scale. I'm about to dive into the second book right away. Despite the issues I mentioned, I'd still recommend the book!
A splendid and divinely twisted read with backstabbing, secrets and a strange bond. When Jynx inherited her dead grandmother's money - a super rich lady who she had no idea existed - she was asked to give this posh school a chance and uphold the Luther name. Feeling like she owed the old lady, Jynx did. Removed the piercings and hid the tatts and had the same old boring hair as everyone else. She even went as far has holding her tongue on that sailor mouth of hers and attempting to appear all innocent and meek. Jeez were they wrong. When her new friends and the guys she trusts in the world of money and power and snobbery, well, our girl has a limit. The secret is out. She's a badass again. And now she's in trouble. Dead bird heads in a box, killing men in the dark, and trauma that still lingers. Creepy! Love it! BTW the way she exposed her true nature to everyone else and her heiress status was just beautiful!
I loved Jynx from the moment we met her in Ever's story and later when her guys made an appearance I couldn't wait to read their story, we were also introduced to Waverly and I so hope she will get her story as well. I loved how Jynx pretended to be someone else and how shocked everyone was when she showed her true self. The guys groveling was fun and I'm happy she made them work for her forgiveness. I would also like to know when I can get my own Gerald, because he is amazing. Only thing I didn't "like" was how short the story was compared to the home books. I can't wait for more and hopefully we get to see Ever in the books as well.
I couldn't put it down. The characters, the plot, the mystery behind old granny benefactor and sleezy careless mom, with a cliffhanger that I don't even care is there....That's how good it is. If you ever read my reviews, you know I can't deal with cliffs. They drive me up a wall.... But THIS WAS FABULOUS!!!! My fav character has to be Gerald the butler who reminds me of Woodhouse off Archer. The lead femme is fatale fabulous, love the besties connection and the men are equally juicy! Read it... You won't be disappointed!
Absolutely loved it! I couldn’t put it down, was completely mesmerised by it. Love the style of writing, the detail, the emotion, the edginess- perfection. Well thought out storyline with lots of twists had me on the edge of my chair. Add in the danger, blood, death threats and tonnes of sexual tension and it makes for a fantastic read. The cliff hanger ending was a killer, can’t wait to read more of this story.
I absolutely LOVED this installment about Jynx! I felt so happy whenever we got to hear about Ever (even if she is younger and still in a shit situation) and even did a happy seat dance when Jynx mentioned Atlas and their connection. Nikita I just adore your books so much!! I am so honored to read your stories and to see you develop as an author.
Nikita Parmenter has not given be a book Series I haven’t fallen in love with! I’m so excited to see this side of the story with a focus on Jynx and her story! I love Ever and her guys and I still reread the books over and over but this will be a great addition to give us a larger look at Ever and Jynx and the world they live in. Definitely worth the read.
Now don't get me wrong I absolutely loved this book. It's got the potential to be a great series. However, there are way too many swear words. The F bomb is dropped a lot and I mean a lot. It's in places were it didn't even need to be. There are also quite a few typos within the book. But as I said it's still got huge potential. Will definitely read the next
After reading her Finding home series, I was ecstatic to hear of this spinoff!! NP never disappoints with her slow burn romances and high energy action, dark and brooding alphas and secret societies with plenty of skeletons in the family closet. Great Read!
I loved Jinx and her guys in the Finding My Home series and I was stocked when I found out that she has her own series! This is the story about how Jinx and her guys met and became the team that is so sought after. Jinx is definitely a take no shit from anyone type of badass! I can't wait for more!
Good job for the first book. Definitely looking forward to the next. Strong female character with intelligent males who aren't wimps but show respect for her talents once she has them educated. Plenty of food for thought and questions to be answered. Would recommend.
This story definitely has potential! However, I’m not sure if I like it and I’m not sure I’ll finish the series.
The plot: FMC has a bunch of guy friends. They keep a lot of secrets from each other. They all have dark pasts and they spend the entire book evading enemies and killing people. Every once in a while they kiss and send each other coy looks.
Super spy Grandma is who I’m really interested in. I couldn’t care less about the rest. I bet she isn’t even dead. Also, I want to explore that house more than I want to read this book.
My biggest issue with this book was all these relationships were pre-established and the story had begun months ago. I felt like this book started in the middle of everything. The book starts when FMC is heading to school one day, she tells us about her guy friends and her inheritance. Then the guys turn on her, and that lasts about 3 days before they’re begging for forgiveness. It’s a weird start for a book...and pointless. That whole bullying theme has no impact on this story whatsoever, except it makes me think the guys are stupid…I mean literally dumb and lacking in intelligence.
There is no relationship building at all, because the relationships are already formed. It makes me feel detached from the story. It’s hard to care about the relationships of strangers. I don’t know enough to decide whether I even like these people.
The character development sucks, because there isn’t any of that either. The characters feel like blank stereotypes. The guys are 2D, cookie cutter, teenage criminals with no personality. No defining features. Do we even know what they look like?
Also, I didn’t read the series that this story is an offshoot of…and it made me confused about a lot of things. There are a lot of references to events that never happened in this book, things we’re apparently supposed to already know. There are people and relationships that are glossed over because we are already supposed to know them. I don’t like that.
The plot is not very good either. It’s all over the place - like the author couldn’t decide what this series should be about besides teenage criminals.
Anyways, I think I’ll give the next book in this series a shot, but I can’t guarantee that it won’t be a DNF.
