A homeless single mother is on a collision course with destiny.
Laney is at the end of her rope. Homeless with three young girls in the mountains of North Carolina, all she wants is to keep her family together. But no one will give her and her girls a chance. Not until the mysterious Jess covers for her with the local sheriff.
But there's more to Jess than meets the eye. The woman lives in a haunted cottage, dabbles in horticulture, and talks about magic like it's real, not just a story to entertain children. And then there's the mysterious ghost who only Laney and her middle daughter can see.
Has this displaced woman found a home? Or will the odd circumstances cost Laney her girls and perhaps her life?

A native New Yorker, Jenn now lives in the mountains of North Carolina with her imaginary friends. I really enjoyed the prequel novella about the Silver sisters and their mother. We get to learn how they ended up living with Aunt Jess. This story fleshes out more of who Jess, Elaine, and Ethan were and what their dynamics looked like. These events are mentioned in the three novels about the grownup Silver sisters but not in great detail since they were small children when these events took place. Despite being short, the story was well written, includes three dimensional characters and an engaging storyline. We get hints of who the Silver daughters will be and some of their background as well as the potential for their fuller stories. It made me want to go and reread the other books in the series.
I enjoyed learning of the beginnings of the Solver sisters link to magic through their mom. Jacqueline Rendell did justice with this novella. I understood Lainey and her profound love for her daughters.
Laney, Jess and Ethan’s story Truly enjoyed this lovely story of a mums love for her children and the lengths she will go to, to protect them at all costs. This is a prequel to The Silver Sister novels, it introduces us to Alys, Maeve and Siobhan’s mother Laney. Along with their Aunt Jess and Ethan the Guardian (spirit) of the house. I loved hearing Laney’s story, how she evolves into a confident happy woman to her friendship with Jess (the fae creole botanist) and also her growing relationship with Ethan the spirit. Looking forward to reading / listening to more books in this series. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thanks to her slimeball ex, Lainey and her three young daughters are homeless and holing up in abandoned houses to get by. Just when Lainey’s life takes yet another downward turn, she meets an unlikely and unusual benefactress whose odd home is guarded by a resident spirit, Ethan. Despite the fact Ethan is dead, sparks fly. by embracing her feminine magic, Lainey is able to embody Ethan for a night. Will the unlikely pair consummate their growing relationship or will Lainey’s past come crashing in to destroy the only real happiness she’s ever known?
An outstanding, quick paced read with just the right dollop of heat. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed this "Silver Sisters" novella a lot. This story focused on the Silver sisters' mother's journey and related more about their background. The story was about family and how a mother's love can keep them together in spite of overwhelming difficulties. The tale was moving, tragic, sad, and a little racy. All the elements that make a great, albeit short story. I recommend this novella to others who enjoy this genre. Jacqueline Rendell's narration was fabulous and enhanced the written material. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
I love prequels that make me think about the series and all of a sudden it's like a lightbulb turns on. So many details are connected and things I didn't even know that had bothered me make perfect sense.
This book has it all! Terror, mistrust, friendship, family, magic, and love. If you haven't read the series start here. If you have read the series, circle back and read this emotional book. Reading this is truly magical, and a delicious and delightful experience!
The beginning before the Silver Sisters became women ,sister witches to be reckoned with. This is their mother's story and how it all began. Laney and Jess will draw you into their world of spirits, magic herbalism and the art of witch craft. The coming together of a spiritual journey. The bold writing of Jennifer L. Hart introduces you to the series of the Silver Sisters paranormal women's fictional romance .Acquire " Witch Way or the High Way " a Silver Sisters Novella. So you can enjoy it as much as I have. The story of how Jess and Laney met and became best friends. We are also introduced to Ethan, the ghost guardian of the cottage. Laney is anxiety-filled, high-strung, and with regrets about past choices. Now she is homeless trying to do the best she can to take care of her three girls. This novella fills in some of the blanks in the mother's backstory. I like the little details about trips to the library and how many of them like to read. Laney tells her girls a story every night before they go to sleep.
This story told me a great deal more, so I honestly do love prequels. I also loved how a homeless mother and her three young daughters were taken in and loved. In this modern day, that is more like a fairy tale, but it COULD happen, in the right circumstances. I keep hoping! The characters are alive and the emotions of the reader are real. IF I were able, I would want to help it happen. I definitely recommend this book.
This is a look into the live of the sisters with they're mother when they were kids. I liked this story, it explains so much about the sisters. I liked the characters. I liked hearing about the sister's mother before she died and hearing about the woman they called aunt. I love Jennifer's writing, this series is so good and I hope more people will read it.
Laney has been abandoned by her husband and left homeless with her three daughters. She piles what she could in the car and hits the road. Staying in abandoned houses along the way, she ends us pulled over by the sheriff. Then Jess shows up to tell the sheriff she is her employee and takes her and the girls home. There Jess teaches Laney about plants and magic and her girls finally have ahome.
It was fun getting the back story to the series to which I am now fully addicted! I am enjoying this world so much, and it was really helpful and fun to learn more about their pasts.
This is a captivating prequel to the Silver Sisters series. This is a great start to the series. It was great to have the story where it all began. I appreciated it. Jacqueline Rendell did an excellent job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to more in the series.

Story about a single mother, Laney and her 3 daughters homeless in the mountains of North Carolina. A mysterious woman named Jess lives in a haunted cottage and dabbles in horticulture. There is magic and a ghost that only certain people can see. Very entertaining story.
I love the Silver Sisters!! This is the prequel story to the Silver Sisters midlife magic series and it's fantastic! I can't wait to hear all the stories. Love that I found this author. So excited for more!
I love the extra insight to Laney, Jess & Ethan in this story. Sometimes you just need a safe space away from all those who let you down & that’s what Witch Way is for Laney & her girls. ❤️
Ok, I liked this story until I found it weird that someone was in a relationship with a ghost?? Am I the only one who found this strange? Maybe I didn’t understand the story line properly!
Definitely a wattpad book, took about an hour to read. Easy read kinda dumb but wholesome. MC is annoying and it was supposed to be a “spicy” book but in all honesty there is only one scene.
Witch Way or the Highway By Jennifer L. Hart This is a prequel about a mother and three little girls running from pain, shame and a man that left them hungry and homeless. This is how they got a foothold and how the mother gains her witch powers. There is a ghost involved too.
A magical beginning to a story of women’s empowerment!
While reading this novella is in no way necessary to understanding Hart’s Silver Sister series, the background provided add’s a richness to the family’s story. Honestly, I want to read more about Laney, Ethan, Jess, and the sheriff!
Beautiful, hot, intriguing! Which Way or the Highway, A Silver Sisters Novella is at least as good as the 3 main books of the series, and I loved all of them. I did not laugh as much in this novella, but my heart was in it 100% as we see how the family ended up at the cabin and come to understand more about Ethan, the guardian spirit of the cabin.
I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of Which Way or the Highway and I was glad I did. Thank you to Jennifer L. Hart for letting me take a peek. I still pre-ordered a copy!
I loved this prequel! There aren't very many books with an older, female protagonist, that show the real parts of that life. I love how the author introduced and seduced the reader with the descriptions and setting. I wanted to stay in the cottage on Witch Way forever with Jess, Laney and the girls.
We have all been Laney at one time, and I love that she isn't apologetic about being a mom. She owns it and admits there are times when being that mom isn't ideal. I so want more of Laney's story, and while I would adore seeing if Ethan remains a part of the tale, just Laney's journey into magic and getting on with her life is a wonderful beginning. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.
