Desparion—the place where they put men with an inner monster.
A place no sensible citizen goes unless they’re seeking a dark, unrestrained kind of thrill.
That’s me. The thrill-seeker. Well, not usually, but it’s my birthday, and I’m making an exception.
Only, I think I might have taken on more than I can handle…
Ryder—no other comes close to his level of raw sex appeal. All the smoldering good looks that a girl expects from his kind of man, along with a brooding stillness that makes me shiver from the other side of the room like he sees things beyond the understanding of us mere mortals.
What did I do about it?
I propositioned him. Told him it was my birthday and I’d like him as my present.
I just wanted to take a big bite out of all that hotness. And that was when I discovered that alphas bite back.
Ryder is book two in the Her Monster series, an extra spicy dystopian romance.
In a secret garden hidden behind a wall of shrubs and trees amid a tiny English village, you'll find L.V. Lane's writing den, where she crafts spicy adventures...Magical and mythical creatures, wolf shifters, and alphas of every flavor give our sweet, sometimes willful omegas and heroines a guaranteed HEA. If you like my books, you might also like my contemporary pen name, Verity Arden!

So….thinking i would get some answers,i decided to read Ryder. Alas,it was not to be….. I would’ve liked to see a little more of the who/why/where/how of the enemy…. Having an almost repeat of the first story, and nothing more, wasn’t what i was looking for,if i’m honest
Sloane’s little sister turned out to be another Omega. And Ryder was the Alpha that ended up claiming her. We saw what happened to Sloane from Emma’s point of view. We also saw what Emma and Ryder did during that time. When she revealed as an Omega, during her graduation, her best friend did his best to get her to safety,to her Alpha,Ryder. Yes,they were chased by the enemy, but were saved in time for her to go through her heat with Ryder in a safe place before returning home to Desperation. And that’s it…..
I feel a little ripped off...this was the same plot as Jace but from Emma and Ryder's POV. Not great but not bad either. Smutty omegaverse lacking character development.
Notes, comments and warnings: This book contains some elements associated with BDSM. This is not a BDSM how to book. This is a fantasy setting with supernatural creatures (Alphas and Omegas / Omegaverse). Do not try this at home with out proper care and supervision. Specifically bondage, spanking, spanking with belt.
In the book “jace” it was about the older sister and in this book,is about the younger sister..I did enjoy this story, even more than the jace book and I would have given it more stars, but in this story there are many pages that are copied from the jace story(repeated word for word) and it ruined it..other than that it was a good book 😊
It’s Emma’s birthday and she is wanting to spend it in the Alpha Zone with her sister Sloane and her friends. This is the second book and we learned Sloanes story in Jace. We pick up a little before Sloanes story but still follow the similar timeline. After they enter the Alpha Zone they go to the bar owned by Jace, Ryder and Dane called Inked. Ryders beast zeros in on Emma but she’s a beta and he thinks he can’t have her. He wants to punish her for being a brat, his beast wants to claim her as his mate but Ryder knows she could never take his knot. Emma is a young bubbly woman with a mind of her own. She sees Ryder and wants him anyway she can have him.
These two are like magnets to each other, they will have to overcome a few obstacles but we see them lean on each other when the unexpected happens.
The only issue I had was the ending. It stopped abruptly but with a HFN. I know there is one more book so hopefully we learn more about the previous couples in Danes book.
She's a beta, and he is the alpha. Although their chemistry is sizzling, how can they be really together when naturally alpha will bond with omega?
İnteresting how their inner turmoil goes. How Ryder in his glory alpha realise he can't be whole alpha with Emma. And Emma, how she have to find her own after her sister reveal as omega and how one particular alpha bring down her world.
They are at crossroad. A future where they have to hold them self for beta and alpha relationship won't be as easy or natural in their world.
Until, "... There was a monster behind me, his name was Ryder, and he was about to rut me."
Now its all raw. İts all animalistic. İts all brutal. İts all perfectly fit.
This is the first book of the series I have read. You do not need to read the others for this book but I feel like I will have to in order to get the 'big picture'. The good thing is I want to know the whole story, the bad part is I will have to be prepared for the spice. Not necessarily a 'bad' part but definitely a book I should read at home, by myself. Hint, hint. Wink, wink. The spice was great but like all of her books so was the story. The characters are well developed with good believable dialog that had me wanting to know what would happen next. If you like dominant alphaholes you will love Ryder but you will enjoy his sweet caring side just as much.
Not much more world-building unfortunately, but I like Emma more than Sloane tbh. She had a bigger personality and she and Ryder were more interesting IMO. I would love to find out more about the world they live in though and the Dawn Agency.
True L.V. Lane. Solid story, well-developed characters, and lots of steam. I’m sorry there are only two stories now. I’m going to stalk this series for more. 6🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥/5

Well easy way to write a second book in a series is to take half the chapters of the previous book and edit it to another characters pov. Way too much smut, not enough of the background plot, no mention of Art and what he's up to.
Phew…. Let’s take a minute to discuss how spicy this book is? D A N G!!! Not your normal hot but a need a fan to cool yourself off after reading type of hot.
Ryder is Omegaverse perfection and I can’t get enough of these guys ♥️
I absolutely loved Ryder. Hands down. If I had to pick between him and Jace - well the answer is easy, Ryder hands down. I am curious to see what happens next with Dane. I will (Im)patiently wait for it 😉
Emma is determined to have a little fun this birthday and decides they need to go to Desparion for just that, only she got a little bit more than she bargained for. I knew when she asked for Ryder to be her birthday present that things were about to go down…. 🥵🥵🥵
I loved how he cared for her the entire story. He wanted her but didn’t want to hold her back. He wouldn’t sleep with her initially because he didn’t want to hurt her. I mean… what normal alpha would do someone like that? We know Snake definitely would have taken advantage without a second thought. I’m not a fan btw, although I kind of hope he gets a book. I digress….
Could an alpha and a beta truly ever be together? They didn’t seem to think so but it looks like fate had a little bit to say about it.
If you like steamy Omegaverse stories with nests, knotting, growly alphas, slight BDSM, and bratty omegas then this story is for you!!!! HAVE A FAN CLOSE BY 😂
I always say there’s no way she can outdo herself but she always ceases to amaze me with her talent.
Sam and LV are a fantastic co-writing duo! I can’t tell where one starts and the other ends. Their words flow beautifully together. I’m hoping that this series is not the only one with these two amazing authors. Bravo 🎉

Ryder, the second book in the L.V. Lane and Sam Hall Her Monster series, is a must read for anyone who loves a heartwarming omegaverse with lots of Alpha knotting.
The book starts out simultaneous with Jace and Sloan’s story (Book 1, Jace), but told from a different angle, that of Sloan’s sister Emma. Emma is a Beta who finds herself drawn to Ryder, a possessive and protective Alpha who lives behind the gates of Disparion. And Ryder is equally drawn to her. But after a 3 day whirlwind of endless pleasure, it becomes obvious to both that an Alpha needs an Omega and a life together isn’t possible. If only Emma could have turned into an Omega like her sister…
This book had me laughing and crying, the characters had so much depth and were so well written. The world building is such that you can feel yourself transported into the story. And of course there’s plenty of smexy time, with lots of Alpha knotting and Omega heats.
This was another great book to the omegaverse series by L.V. Lane and Sam Hall. I loved the world that they created in the first book and how it continues through the second book. I really like with this second book how it starts out at the beginning with Jace and Sloan’s story only told from another POV. This book brought out emotions in me, which I loved, and it had so much going to the story.
When I first read Jace, I wasn’t a big fan of Emma at the beginning, but after reading Ryder, I loved her. Emma is a beta who is drawn to Ryder, a possessive and protective Alpha. The dynamic between Emma and Ryder was a lot of fun to read about. I laughed and cried on certain parts of the story.
This book is a fast burn read with plenty of spice and heat. I would definitely recommend this book to others. The plot was amazing, and the story flowed together nicely. I can’t wait to read more about Dane’s story next.
This story continues with a bit of Jace and Sloan, just to remind us of where this takes place. Emma is having her birthday celebration Desparion, behind the locked gates where Alphas with an inner beast reside. Ryder takes on Emma who just claims to want to see her sister Sloan who is in full blown heat as she reveals as an Omega. Even without being an Omega, Emma wants all of Ryder she can get, the feeling is mutual with Ryder, but and Alpha just can't have a Beta without harming her, he would eventually harm her if he lost control. This Alpha, Beta, Omega world is well described, the pairings and matings are sizzling hot and Ryder has a hefty bit of kink to his sexual way of controlling and soothing his inner monster. I enjoyed this whole story, it had all the elements of an enjoyable story about family, sex, a strictly controlled living section specifically for Alphas and Omegas where they won't influence "normal society." I hope to get to read more from this Desparion world.
This is one of those books where I wasn't sure I was going to it. I wasn't much of an Emma fan while I was Jace and Sloane's story and I was worried I wasn't going to connect with her, but I was wrong. She was nothing like I expected and I loved this one as much as the first. Emma and Ryder are fabulous together.
One of the things I loved about this one is that it takes place simultaneously with Jace. It gives you a broader picture of what was going on. Then you have the ABO dynamics and a whole lot of steam. We are talking need something to put the fire out level steam. There is also humor, sweetness, and a lot of attitude. And don't forget the storytelling. I was drawn in and the descriptions are detailed enough that you feel like you're in the book.
I really can't wait to get my hands on Dane's story because I know it's going to be fabulous.
Ryder is the second book in the Her Monster series, and takes us back into Desparion, where the alpha’s rule and anything goes. Emma is a spunky beta introduced in the previous book, and she is fierce and feisty and ready for a party. Her connection with Ryder is instantaneous, and while sparks fly between then, she knows that as a beta, there is no place for her in his world.. or is there? This is a fast burn, fast read Alpha/omega story, delivering L.V Lane’s signature spice and heart. I was prepared not to fall in love with Emma (given the sneak peak I had of her in Jace), but I was happily proven wrong. This is a definite recommendation for any reader looking for a protective h, some knotty fun, size difference and a hea.
You know when you read a book and think, HOT DAM didn't know I was into that. Yeah, well this is that book. I mean I didn't know I wanted to be rutted by an Alpha so much. hahahaha Emma wants to PARTAYYYY.... and why not, it's her birthday. But when she walks into Inked and catches the eye of big ole softy alpha Ryder things are about to get interesting (insert Marvin Gaye 'Let's Get It On). This is a; I want to say medium burn for an omega story. All the little bits in between the saucy parts are just as entertaining as the getting down and dirty. Who is this Dawn Agency and WTH are they actually doing? But heck, if you want to keep that a secret and give me more Omega/Alpha action I will be a happy camper (wink wink).
I really enjoyed getting to see another side of the story as Sloane and Jace (in Jase by LV and Sam Hall) went through her first heat/their mating. The dynamic between Ryder and Emma was a lot of fun. Emma is definitely sassy and a bit of a brat, which clearly suited Ryder just fine. I liked their dynamic, even though they behaved a bit like ostriches with their heads stuck in the sand. Because it was slower to grow, their bond may be even deeper than what we saw in Jace, because these two chose each other before pheromones ever did. I liked seeing more of this (totally f*cked up) universe that LV and Sam have created, I can’t wait for more… Is Dane next? 😉

Protective alphas, knotting and a damn good plot! What more could you want in an omegaverse book?! This is the second book in the Her Monsters series and it’s really unique as it takes place at the same time as the first book featuring Jace and Sloane. I would recommend reading that first so it doesn’t spoil anything but I love that you get Emma’s and Ryder’s point of view during the conflict that occurs. Ryder is all Alpha, strong & caring for Emma, who we meet as a Beta. Emma isn’t weak, standing up for what she wants even though Ryder has to remind her of a few things 🥵🥵. This was steamy and hot with an amazing plot!!! Definitely read this series!
Loved the first one so was sooooooo happy there were more books! This one is about Sloane's sister Emma. Emma just wants to have a great birthday and have her sister and best friends there. She also wants to go into the Alpha section and be a little less responsible then she normally is.
I love that you get to read part of Sloane's story in this one and see it from Emma's side of the story. It was really interesting and shows how you can come up with different things from different points of view. And I also loved Emma getting her HEA. It was great to see.
I can't wait for the next one! And I wouldn't mind if they decided to keep this series going! It has a great back story!
I hadn't read the 1st book, Jace, in this series, however you actually don't need to at all to enjoy this 2nd one.
Ryder is a hot, possessive Alpha who hasn't had it easy and certainly won't have his head turned by the many Beta's that come to party at his club behind the locked gates of the Alpha zone.
That is until Emma arrives to party for her birthday and maybe scratch some some Alpha itch.
There's an immediate attraction and when Ryder offers Emma a night to remember, she's smitten and they both fall hard. However, Alpha's need Omegas and Emma isn't one.
What follows is a whirlwind of heartbreak, danger, heat, passion and possession.
The 2nd installment of the LV Lane/ Sam Hall mashup had me feeling all sorts of ways. Mostly hot and bothered. But hey, that’s what I’m here for.
The story picks up after the first, connecting characters and storylines effortlessly. It’s a seamless transition and I am HERE FOR IT.
Ryder though. I just. Ok. Hand me a towel.
Juicy. Steamy. Knotty. Angsty.
Idk who called it “childish” but they clearly have no clue what they’re babbling about.
The perspective changes fluidly and the authors have a firm grasp on the nuances of each individual character. Another AMAZING book you need to read rightmeow.
This alpha knows just how to put those feisty kittens in their place. He likes to play with them, bat their little paws, and see them fluffed up and spitt'n mad. He just can't help himself. I guess you can say the bratty little beta in kitten ears has worked her way under his skin. Now that is all he can think of . . . and smell . . . and taste. Dang, his inner beast wants to keep her and he's having a hard time find reasons why not. But it can't work between an alpha and a beta, right. Right?
This was an awesome read that I enjoyed from beginning to end. IT moves along at a speed which works really well for the story making for an easy and enjoyable read. The characters are so real that you feel as though you know them and you want to be there for them no matter what happens. This story will hook you and keep you interested till the last page is read. It needs to be on your TBR list, you will not be sorry that you did.
A great read. This book starts concurrently with Jace and Sloan’s story, but offers a different perspective. I really enjoyed this. Ryder and Emma are so well written, I enjoyed getting to know them better in this book. I loved the world that was created in the first book and what was added in the second book. There is a lot of steam in this book, to much for me, but the plot kept me reading. I highly recommend that you read this book.
The Alpha in this story was much better than the one in the first book. He knew what to do and when to stay even though his dynamic was revealed later in life and it was more clear that he really wanted Emma as a person than just because of compatibility. The conspiracy plot with Art from the end of the first book wasn't part of the book at all and therefore was not brought to an ending. Bad writing?

THIS WASN'T LANE'S BEST OMEGAVERSE, AND WHILE I ENJOYED HOW ALPHA OUR MALE LEAD WAS, I WASN'T A FAN OF THE HEROINE - a little off the charts and...overly emotional to the point of hysteria. Story started off good - hot - and engagingly steamy but, this was a pretty straightforward Omegaverse story to 'get your literary rocks off'. Nothing special, nor exciting.
