A great sequel
At first it felt almost repetitive of the first with how Codi immediately took to Denise, but as the story goes it becomes just as good with so much more to add to the series that makes me excited for the next. I like the fact that Denise is not uncomfortable with the idea of a relationship like Becca was, and how Codi fits in with the little family. Honestly what's really driving me is the news segments of the fight between Humanity First and BioNex. There's a cliffhanger there that I hope gets a real payoff. You come for the romance and stay for the sci-fi.

Codi and Denise . . .
Denise Cartwright finds an android assistant discarded like trash in a dumpster, damaged and in serious need of repairs. She rescues him and takes him home. His name is Codi and he fits right into her life, cooking, cleaning, and interacting with her son Lucas. He is actually comfortable there.
As they begin to have feelings for each other, their feeling of family grows. And then Reagan Walter, his original owner, tracks him down, claiming he was stolen from her and the thieves obviously wiped his memory. Will she be able to take him away from Denise? Or will their love find a way to keep them together?
I love this series! The characters are wonderful and the story line will hold the reader’s interest. Fall in love as you read or listen to their story. You won’t want to miss this series as it opens your mind to new possibilities!
The narrator for the audiobook is Christian Leatherman. He does a great job with the voices to make it easy for the listener to get an accurate idea of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood and is an enjoyable way to “read” and enjoy the book.

CODI - Another Winner From Roxie McClaine

Roxie McClaine has once again thought outside the box with her new book, CODI. He’s an android found in the trash with no memory of how he got there. His discoverer, single mom Denise, takes him home and learns to love having a spotless home, meals cooked, and a built in babysitter for her five year old. Of course, romance must follow after finding a guy who can do all that for a woman. But after we hope for the possibility of a happy ending, a monkey wrench is thrown into the works. However Roxie McClaine promised a HEA and she really delivered with this one. Her characters are interesting with well developed personalities, and the story itself is unique and fascinating. I couldn’t put the book down and read it all in one evening. Ms. McClaine has become one of my absolute favorites authors!

I actually really enjoyed this and found it better than the first one, though I still think it could do with a little slowing down even if it adds to the page count.

Very fun scifi romance.

I hope the author realizes that extreme capitalism is the problem and not the robots. I wasn’t so sure with the owner of the androids saying he kinda regretted making them…..

Continúan las protestas de Humanity First y la crueldad contra los androides pero personas como Becca y Denise están dispuestas a ayudarlos.
Oliver y Becca hacen aparición y me alegró verlos tan felices con su bebé! Me gustaban Denise y su hijo Lucas. Los personajes pueden tener un buen corazón como el ellos o el más negro. Me indignó lo que le hicieron a Codi! Menos mal que Denise lo encontró a tiempo!
Denise y Codi me dieron una conmovedora y dulce historia de amor. Adoré los momentos con el pequeño Lucas. Los tres formaban una hermosa familia.
Amo a Codi, hasta ahora mí androide favorito! Fue divertido ver su crecimiento y nuevo comienzo con Denise y Lucas. Me intrigaba saber qué le pasó y cómo terminó en la basura con la memoria borrada. Nunca esperé el giro sobre su origen y lo que sucedió después. Parecía que no había solución! Mí corazón estaba con Denise!
Pobre Violet/Sophie y qué genial idea tuvo Denise de enviarla con Nicholas.
El mundo sobre estos androides que desarrollan sentimientos me atrapó. Nunca leí nada así y lo estoy disfrutando mucho. Amando esta serie!

I read this a year ago, but forgot to leave a review. Currently rereading this series.
The second installment, Codi, was one of the rare RARE instances I really liked the fmc, but the mmc was kind of meh. (I think she would have been better off with Dominic which is the next Android book but oh well.)
Denise is a single mother who works a nurse, raising her 5 year old son.
I loved the fact that she had an actual personality besides being the love interest. She’s someone I would love to have as a friend- smart-ass but with a heart. Supportive, but will speak up.
The little details like her rockabilly vibes, loves vintage, she reminds me of some gals I went to beauty school with. (We were all 50’s bombshell pinup wannabes.) 😂 But the character didn’t make it a fetish.
Her little boy was sweet but not portrayed way smarter than an average five year old would be. Well, there was a tiny bit of it, but just enough to engage emotions in the reader.
Codi, the mmc, started out interesting. I was a sort of hurt/comfort scenario with how they found him, and it was a unique premise from other AI books I’ve read.
The issue I kind of had with him was that his personality kind of got lost in the shuffle. He was the daddy bot, which may be attractive to some readers. Just really wasn’t my thing, but I didn’t hate it.
I do agree with what another reviewer mentions about the glossing over the aspect of the bad parties his first owners had. There was not much of a moment to take that in, and I’m sorry to say that I didn’t even catch that the first time I read the book. So much was happening.
Overall this was a decent book.

This is the second book in a series that is about Codi a humanoid and a single mother Denise. This story is a romance but also brings some darkness in the storyline and questions as you dig further in this engaging romance story. The main one question is when machines become sentient, how will humankind treat them (Like Data in Star Trek and Picard had to defend him)? Backstory-Humans are protesting against the big companies for replacing them in the workforce with humanoids. Meanwhile, Codi in this story is an entirely likable character who's trying to discover himself since Denise found him in an alley being harassed and hurt by humans and rescued him by taking him home. Waking up with no memories and afraid, the kindness from Denise makes him want to please and help Denise who is raising a child by herself. The child Lucas is adorable as he bonds with Codi and vice versa in this story. Denise also finds herself developing feelings toward Codi and vice versa. So, will Codi and Denise find their HEA in these unsettle times? I volunteer to read and review this enjoyable ARC that I received via Booksprout and look forward to seeing where this series goes.

Alternating with the “story chapters”, the author provided “news chapters” as the community was dealing with Androids replacing workers, and a Humanity First political group. Interesting dichotomy,
Bionex Corporation has created life-like androids to “serve” in the home or at work.
Denise and her friend Becca both have young sons. Becca recently became involved with android Oliver, who has surpassed his programming. When they discover a damaged android in a dumpster, Denise takes him home to see if he can be restarted.
Codi has had his memory wiped, but feels comfortable with Denise and her son Lucas. He proves to be a good sitter, and great cleaner. Denise takes him to an independent shop for further repairs and to have his inhibitor removed. This allows him the ability to say “no”.
Public opinion becomes dangerous, and Codi begins to also be more than his programming. Can he provide for more for his adopted family? Thought-provoking read.

Now unemployment is soaring, social unrest is increasingly prevalent, and anti-android violence against both bionics and their owners is more frequent and more brutal. When Denise and her girlfriend find a battered android in a dumpster, Denise takes him home, gets him fixed up, and has his inhibitor chip removed so he can defend himself if attacked again. Their relationship slowly changes; Codi becomes more than a robot, more than a servant, and even more than a friend. The his prior owner finds him, and insists on his return. Newly sentient Codi has issues with that, and his love for Denise guides his decision making. This is a complex story fraught with anger, fear, violence, and danger for human Denise, but her love for Codi guides her decisions. Suspense, steam, and an underlying definition of what it really means to be human make this a powerful and moving story.

Science Fiction at its Finest!!
I can’t get over how utterly immersive this series is. It lines up so powerfully with current human life. The way that these books are written, with dual POV staggered with “news feed” excerpts - a cozy romance and a teetering sociopolitical upheaval story are being told simultaneously!
Seriously, don’t hesitate for a second!!! Just all around a beautiful android series - it questions life in essence and what it means to have a soul. McClaine’s stories are hilarious, poignant, and utterly romantic to the core.
Also, this one in particular???!!! Codi and Denise? Not only is Denise a sassy bombshell single mom, but I am a siiiimp for a man who knows how to be a dad to a dinosaur obsessed kid. Like, I want some more please! The way that they allowed each other into their hearts/processors until they couldn’t imagine life apart?? And then the knife twist of the past coming back to threaten everything?? Sure, I knew it had to be coming, but GOSH I cried.
I look forward to SOPHIE getting her HEA!!

This was my first scifi book about androids, and I must say it was thoroughly enjoyable. It was well written and believable, as far as imagining the capabilities of future androids. And with the potential of having androids like Codi, I say let's get busy!
The story was sweet with a little nail-biting drama at the end and a pleasant amount of heat. I'll just say that I wouldn't kick Codi out of bed for eating crackers!
The relationship between Codi and Denise was smooth and perfectly relatable. And including Denise's young son, Lucas, into the story added a dimension that gave Codi even more human emotion as well as enhanced his ability to think for himself without the restriction of any electronic barriers.
I 100% recommend this book and hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love that this book is another in the series that speaks to the atrocities that we live. Although Codi is an android the treatment of their kind is what we see in everyday life of those that do not look as us. This book delved into abuse and racism (shrouded in android abuse) and the intricacies of relationships behind closed doors.
I love that Denise has no shame in who she is and what her past was but love is just out of her reach. Then she finds Codi, broken, thrown away and unowned.
Over time (short time), they fall in love as Codi learns who he is, what he can offer and what the truth is about his being found in dumpster. Although the original owner comes to take him back, Codi learns to fight fire with a blaze.
In the end, life is as it should be, Codi with Denise and Lucas as a family....no matter that he is an android...love is love....Especially that Lucas claims him as his Daddy.
I love that Denise has no shame in who she is and what her past was but love is just out of her reach. Then she finds Codi, broken, thrown away and unowned.

What an excellent book! I don't really read android romance books, but the first one completely captivated me and I was excited for the second. I am not disappointed! This is one of my favorite series now. Great world building- a very realistic feel to it if there were androids being widely used in the world. Wonderful characters. I was happy that this book also had the couple from the first book. Denise is a single mom and was out for a girl's night with her friend (heroine from book one), when they find an android in a dumpster. He had a dent on his head and when awoken had no memories from before they woke him up. He decides to stay with Denise and her son Lucas. The longer they are together, the more Codi and Denise begin to feel for each other, and there was attraction from the start. A wonderful story! I can't wait for the next book. 5 stars.

This is a strangely poignant series for a romance. While each book can be read as a standalone, there is an overarching story that feels too real, especially nowadays .
If you're interested in the larger story about the real-life repercussions of life-like droids becoming common in households and the workplace, I highly suggest reading "Victor" first (it's only available as a free book upon signing up for the author's newsletter). Now, enough about that.
Codi's story, while being rooted in trauma and abuse, is so very sweet. He is found physically damaged in a bar's dumpster; his memory is wiped clean and there is no way to restore it from the cloud. All we know is that upon activation, he is terrified... an emotion he shouldn't be capable of as he is a programmed machine. His reactions to Denise treating him like an independent human instead of a possession just melted my heart.

how is this one just… so much worse than the first one? let me iterate: i loved oliver’s story. a ridiculous amount. this one just didn’t sell me. i felt like she suddenly just dropped all of her responsibilities/childcare on him. i get it’s what codi’s programmed for, but she’s falling for him—shes actively pursuing him and just lets him continue to slave for her. this one just didn’t feel natural or real. it wasn’t believable. it was just so… synthesized. i found myself wanted to dnf it… and it’s a small little novella that can be read on my lunch break! i pushed through because i really want sophie’s story. i guess that says a lot about me; i loved the first book in a book about robot/human relations, hated the second one, and am chasing the high of finding out i was into this concept.

When Denise and her best friend find Codi in a dumpster they are determined to rescue him. Perhaps because said best friend is married to Oliver, an Android, and thanks to him they know there’s more to Androids than meets the eye.
There is so much more in this story than I expected. Like many genre stories, it has social commentary woven throughout, in though provoking ways, using the fictional local paper to provide a variety of view points.
I am falling in love with the New Carnegie Universe, and characters, love that some of the secondary characters here felt set up for their own story, and look forward to more.
I listened to the Audible version for most of this book, and really enjoyed the reading, the accents were good, and the narrator did a nice job differentiating between when it was a Denise chapter vs. a Codi chapter.

Mostly cute but not up to par with book 1. I have one serious problem with this story. Codi finds out his previous owners threw parties where for their entertainment, and that of his business acquaintances, college students were invited and given date rape drugs. It doesn't even occur to him that this is a heinous crime and more significant than a simple way to blackmail them. They have them on cocaine possession and insider trading. They have other options to get away from the Walters without letting them get awaynwith the rape of young students. Even when he tells Denise what they were doing, she laughs at his clever use of the information. Sorry, but I do not understand how a woman can just sweep this topic under the rug like that.

I haven't read many books about androids, but I'm sure if I had this one would rank up there with the best of them. I just loved his book and fell a little in love with the wonderful Codi the android who by chance comes into Denise and her son's life and changes so much about it.
Denise finds that Codi is so much more than she expected, capable of feelings which surprised her but what surprised her more was when they started developing feelings for each other. When Codi's real owner tries to reclaim him things begin to get complicated. I'm not telling you what happens but I will say it's definitely well worth reading.

Codie and Denise
Codie is found hurt, damaged with no memory but an unexplainable fear. Also a confusion of why he has an emotion like fear. He tries to find a way in life, but will his past come back to haunt him?
Denise is a single mother and a nurse. Out on a girl's night out with her bestie they come across some drunk men trying to burn somthing in an alley. Chasing them away, she finds out its a android. Her and her bestie bring him home. Let the crazy swooniness issue!
I'm obsessed with this series! The narration is wonderful and the story is out of this world! Must read/listen!.

This was the first audiobook I have ever listened to; that was a unique experience.
The main reason that I did not give the book five stars is that I'm not a huge fan of Denise, the main female character. I did not like her personality and felt very annoyed with her throughout the book. Her mentality gave me stuck in high school vibes and I found her immaturity very frustrating.
On the other hand, I loved Codi and getting to see him slowly realize that he was more than what he was programmed to be, and that made the whole book worth it for me.

Second book of the New Carnegie Androids series, I listened to this audiobook after "Dominic", so I was already familiar with Roxie McClaine futuristic but plausible world, where Androids are a reality.
As usual, I don't like to make spoilers, but the book is entertaining, with steamy hot sex scenes, the plot is original and never boring, the characters well defined, and the alternation between characters' POV chapters and the Carnegie daily news helps building the context in which the story develops. Politics, greed, violence against the different, the never-ending fight between great corporations and the working class, all these nuances can be found in this book.

As you probably already know, I love this series and though you may want to read it in order, you definitely don't have to in order to enjoy it. Not only is it a futuristic love story, it's also a story of civil rights and the line between what's right and what is wrong when dealing with possible sentient, free thinking 'machines'.
McClaine is able to take the ridiculous and turn it to something wholly conceivable, utilizing humor and love. The only issue, is now I want a New Carnegie Android for myself! ;)

A very good read. Codi is an android that Denise saves from being assaulted behind a bar. Codi had been beaten and abandoned behind the bar by his owner’s husband then more humans decided to further abuse him. Denise takes him home with her and their love for each other begins to grow. It’s a very good story with interesting social commentary. I have read two other stories in this series and so far and none of them have disappointed.

A very enjoyable read and great follow up to Victor and Oliver, but can be read as a standalone also.
The ups and downs of the story drag you into the lives of Denise , Lucas and Codi, as well as continuing the story of Becca and Oliver, which i love to find out about past character's and how they are going in life. Very well written, it draws you in and pulls you along with the characters in the life they are trying to live to get their happy ever after. The sexual scenes are Hot Hot Hot and enjoyable and believable.

Another fantastic addition to this series. As with the previous book ‘Oliver’, interspersing Codi and Denise’s narrative with news articles from the ‘New Carnegie Times’ created unsettling, uncomfortable and thought provoking elements to the story. Add to this the beautiful and steamy love story between Denise and Codi and the obstacles they need to overcome, I found this to be a very satisfying and enthralling read. Highly recommended. This is one of my all time favorite books. All of the books in this series are a one click immediate best seller. We all need this type of hero in our lives. Codi was every hero you want in a man that in reality you don't get, while the heroine was smart, strong and worthy as we all are. Codi said it best that he can do anything but breathe. The author is brilliant and her storyline is exciting, new and Hot! Enjoy this whole series. I am looking forward to owing the entire series.

This is the first Roxie McClaine book I have read.. Codi: A New Carnegie Android Romance. It is an interesting twist on a Cyborg/Android romance. As our robotics become more lifelike and self-aware. The perfect man maybe not a man at all but your newest household purchase.
You have to feel sorry for Codi in this story as a discarded dumpster find. Denise's life became a dream because of Codi. This is a sweet romance.

Denise is used to be in the life of the party but since she had her son Lucas five years prior she has slowed down some but she still likes to go out every now and then. She saves and android with her friend from being burned and takes home to have Oliver assess him. The android’s name is Codi and he makes Denise‘s life so much easier. They start developing feelings for each other but his real owner comes back for him and there’s all drama ensuing from there. Will he and Denise be able to be together?
