A knowledgeable, thorough guide to starting a hive, keeping them healthy and managing hives from your own backyard.

It was such an interesting read. I had no idea how beekeeping works and learned so much from this guide. It's easy to read and understand and definitely a book that new beekeepers will want to have on hand!

Thanks to NetGalley, the Author, and the publisher Quarto Publishing Group for this ARC! I have always been fascinated by bees, and while I cannot become a beekeeper yet due to living circumstances, this book caught my attention and I am so glad I read it! I learned a lot about caring for and keeping bees and will use this book as a reference for when I finally get the chance to keep bees of my own one day. Informative, well written, and filled with diagrams and images, this book is a must-read for anyone who is interested in beekeeping or who would like a reference.

A comprehensive introduction to the keeping of bees for the production of honey. The author is an experienced beekeeper and he shares his knowledge to advise anyone hoping to have a happy, healthy hive of bees. The information is very thorough with plenty of photographs and illustrations to support his guidance. The three chapters focus on 1. How to get started; 2. All about bees; and 3. How to manage your beekeeping. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a fascinating guide this is. It goes into what you will need to maintain a successful hive and, despite being a beginner’s book, as well as not overly long, it goes into considerable detail with many photos and diagrams.

There’s a lot of knowledge within these pages and this a recommendation for those interested in tending their own.

Temporary PDF kindly provided by New Shoe Press (Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry) and NetGalley. Opinions shared are my own.

Contained good information for beginning beekeepers. If you’re not planning on using Langstroth hives, I wouldn’t bother with this book. Other hive types are briefly mentioned but are definitely not the focus. Information felt irrelevant because of that. The pest management section felt very redundant. I ended up skimming a lot of pages.
