Super Easy Crochet for Beginners
This is the most comprehensive beginner’s book available, yet it won’t overwhelm you with details and instruction you don’t need or want, so you can start enjoying your crochet hobby immediately.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Super Easy Crochet for Beginners is an easy to follow guide on how to begin crocheting followed with tips and plenty of projects to start you off. The projects increase in difficulty as you go further through the book but the steps seem easy enough to follow and there's plenty of photographs throughout too. Crocheting is something I want to get back into learning as I began a few years back but then life has taken over. This seems a great book yo get me started again and I've spied one of two projects I want to have a go at within it too.
In this book, Burger explains various crochet stitches and techniques in a linear fashion, helping the absolute beginner work up to more complex projects.
While I was not an absolute beginner when I went into this book, I had only recently started learning, so I found this to be a helpful resource. The author explains how to do the basic stitches through clear instructions and lots of photographs, with sections about troubleshooting any issues with the piece that may crop up. The author also explains useful things such as how different hook sizes and yarn weights work, as well as how to read patterns and charts.
However, I wished there were more patterns included. There's one per chapter, so that you can practice the stitches and techniques you've just learned, but giving more would have given the reader more kinds of things to practice, and more choice in what they wanted to make. As I wasn't particularly drawn to any make in this book, the only item I ended up making from out of this was a scarf using the staggered shell stitch, having found the stitch in Chapter 8.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a really text-heavy how-to book. I personally found it completely overwhelming though it does have a ton of information and lots of color photos. I do not crochet but two of my kids are self taught. They picked it up from a friend of mine who taught them in just a few minutes. Both of them are really good at making hats, coasters, etc. with all different styles. I can't help but wonder if they would have been able to learn if they'd had a book instead, because it makes it seem so complicated. I want to learn to crochet too, but I think I'll ask my kids to teach me instead of relying on a book.
If you like books that are extremely heavy on information and instruction, this will be a good one. If you want something that makes it look simple and straightforward, this may not do the trick.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
[This review is a copy from my Netgalley account; it is an honest review in exchange for an Advanced Reader's Copy from Netgalley, which did not affect my review]
As a beginner in the world of crochet, it is difficult to find a book that is genuinely for beginners; many of them are full of jargon without explanation, have a lack of photographs, and require previous knowledge. This title, however, is a beautiful example of a true beginner's guide. It was easy to follow, full of wonderful photographs, and had projects that advanced in difficulty as readers progressed through the book. With the added bonus of "tips and tricks", I could see this as an instant favorite for those venturing into the world of crochet and a fun challenge to work through each chapter. I myself have already started one project from the book and intent to hone my skills to make the more expansive projects toward the end. Will be recommending for purchase for my Library.
This is a good book for the novice crocheter. The books is formatted with chapters covering materials, tools, pattern interpretation and patterns. The pictures are colorful and good illustration for the instructions they are near. Easy to follow instructions for the basic stitches and several good patterns to get you started.
Super Easy Crochet for Beginners, Learn Crochet with Simple Stitch Patterns, Projects, and Tons of Tips by Deborah Burger I am a self-taught and always feel as if I missed something as I just create without reading. This book is such a great resource of information. It starts with an introduction about crocheting. Getting started explains what you will need and why and the differences between what is offered. Shaded areas on the pages are important information and tips and tricks. Chart sizes come in shaded areas also. Yarns are explained and how to use the right size hook for yarn weight you get for your project. Pictures of how to start off crocheting are included, very detailed descriptions and pictures. More information about stitching and other aspects of crocheting are discussed also. Each project starts with a title, summary of what you are making and shaded areas about what you will learn, what you need, yarn, hooks and notions. Directions are given with pictures and helpful tips in shaded areas. As you go along you will learn more stitches and other techniques, easy to do it this way rather than tell you about all the stitches and really complicate things. As you advance you will learn even more things about crocheting. Love the samples of finished projects. Troubleshooting tips are also given so you won't get lost along the way. Once you learn a few stitches the sky's the limit as you can make anything you want. practice is key, don't get frustrated. This is a relaxing, calming time to spend daily. Other interesting things are brought up: color wheel and even granny squares among other techniques that are fun to do. Some designs are even charted and you are taught how to figure out which stitches use what symbol. you'll get the hang of that also. Abbreviations and index are included at the end along with about the author. If you take your time and do all the pages a half hour every day you will see your progress and it will take you months to enjoy learning. A KEEPER! Received this review copy from Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, New Shoe Press via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion. #SuperEasyCrochetforBeginners #NetGalley
Super Easy Crochet for Beginners: Learn Crochet with Simple Stitch Patterns, Projects, and Tons of Tips is a nonfiction resource by Deborah Burger. Super Easy Crochet for Beginners is the book I wish I had fifteen years ago when I taught myself to crochet via books, YouTube, and helpful advise fro fellow crafters after my childhood lessons on the subject failed me. Event after years or crochet, sewing, embroidery, and other crafts I had somehow never finished a project by felting, so I still learned something new even as a more experienced crocheter. The projects are nicely varied and cover the skills and questions that new or struggling crocheters often need clarification on. My only issue is one I commonly have with this kind of guide- while the patterns are well written and the instructions easy to follow and great starting points they are also generally (with some exceptions) something that few of us actually want more of in our house, or that others would be overjoyed to receive as gifts. They are great starting points, and good ways to try new stitches and skills or to bolster confidence before trying something new, but not something many of us would make repeatedly to hone our skills. repeating a pattern you feel you mastered and enjoyed, and looks more difficult that it is results in a box of fancy shawls that it is way too hot to wear. Trust me, I know from experience.
Super Easy Crochet for Beginners definitely lives up to the title and is a great starting point.
This is an in depth look at how to get started in crochet. A true beginner will like the look at the yarn weight system and how to select the correct crochet hook for the yarn they are using. Many useful photos throughout the book will help you know how to hold your hook and make your stitches. Begin with the chain stitch and move on to the single, double and half double crochet stitches. It's amazing what you can do with just these stitches. Joined rounds vs. spirals are explained. I've been making amigurumi for about a year and these stitches and spiral rounds can make many fun projects. Some patterns included in this book are coasters, a hat, scarf, bag, and vest. The beloved granny square is explained along with textures such as bobbles and lace. Even picot edgings. I especially liked the section on reading charts because my skills with charts are non-existent! Crochet terms, abbreviations, and troubleshooting when things go wrong round out the book. I think this book will be very useful to new crocheters. I received an ARC of this title from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.
This book is literally what it says in the title, so for someone like me who has never crocheted but would like to learn, it is absolutely perfect. It gives you information about the different crochet hooks, the types of yarns, including a glossary of the different terms used when speaking about yarns. There are step by step, illustrated, simple and easy to follow instructions to get you started and take you through the basics. Then there are small projects for you to try and these gradually increase in difficulty as you gain skills working through the book. A great introduction to this craft that is perfect for any beginner. My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.
I really liked this book. It has a section about tools and fibers. Then it teaches a stitch and there is a project to go with it. I’m anxious to try the first project which is a “chain gang” boa - a scarf made from several long crochet chains. I found the troubleshooting sections to be helpful because you can tell something isn’t right, but it isn’t always obvious what has gone wrong with the stitches. There are also helpful tips.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The book is very well written and very easy to follow, instructions are well illustrated and the projects start and very simply one stitch item, and become more difficult as the book progresses. I particularly like the highlighting of each stitch and later incorporating it into a project. Excellent book . This book is written in American terms but there is a conversion chart at the back of the book to enable translation to English terms. . Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC .
I think this is good beginners Crochet book. Has good pictures with explanations to get started and few easy beginners projects that I'm really excited to try.

What a wealth of info! I would love to have this book in hand so that I can really get into the book and try some of the projects. I feel like some of the troubleshooting items would maybe actually help and the charts are just great! I have not been able to pick up crocheting easily and feel like I might actually progress with this book.
This book includes all the information you need to begin crocheting. It is full of fun projects, color illustrations, tips and troubleshooting, and yarn vocabulary. I am looking forward to using this book for my upcoming crochet projects. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Quarry for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I have crochet for fifty years now and consider myself as intermediate crochet. I alway loving looking at any crochet how to even if it is a beginner book. I love the way each stitch is illustrated and has a project/patter to compliment it. I even found out ther is third way to hold hook! Highly recommend this book for a beginner.
In addition to the basic instructional pictures, this book gives you trouble-shooting tips with each section. So if your chain stitches don't look right, the book offers help! If your Granny Squares turn out more like Triangles, the book has suggestions for fixing that. Definitely worth reading even if you already learned the basic chain and single crochet stitches.
I want to thank the author for gifting me the ebook. What a cute book. This book is actually stuffed full of patterns. I found some really great ones that I cannot wait to try. The author does a great job explaining crochet. Highly recommend!
