Your Greater is Coming is Joel Osteen's latest book. In this book, he reminds readers to keep looking ahead for good things and God isn't finished with your story.

I always appreciate Osteen's positivity when I get down on myself or life. I honestly think there are times, we just need this sort of positivity. Your Greater is Coming offers a mix of positive Bible stories with other uplifting stories from Osteen's life and other people in the world today. If you have read Osteen's books before, he does share a couple of stories that he has shared in past books. If you are new to his books, then these stories are good ones to encourage you to look ahead and look to God.

Your Greater Is Coming offers positivity but I don't really think it is over the top. He encourages to you to wait in the hard times, to have faith and to keep hopeful. He talks about all people going through hard times and places of suffering, but he encourages readers to not get stuck there. I think there are times we all need a dash of that. This book is fairly easy to read, easy to understand and I think it would be uplifting for most people.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

I love when a new book by Joel Osteen comes out. He is an upbeat, positive, people-builder-upper. His books, as well as his sermons, build me up, inspire me, and encourage and motivate me.

I also love devotionals, which this is (sort of.) There are fifteen chapters in Your Greater is Coming. Each are relatively quick reads, but plant so much in your head that only a few minutes of reading causes hours of reflecting. Below are a few quotes that spoke effectively to me and lingered for some time:

.The enemy brought the difficult to set you back, but he didn’t realize it’s setting you up for God to show out in your life.

God is not going to waste anything you went through.

Don’t settle for a watered-down version of your dream.
.

We all go through tough times, but they don’t define us or our futures. Rather, they propel us forward. It’s necessary to go through difficulties to reach the good on the other side. The title says it perfectly…what’s coming is greater than we can imagine.

First Line: We all face setbacks in life, things we don’t understand.

I want to give it three stars because I liked the cover and the overall message I really liked but the stories were repetitive. The chapters were quick and this might be a good read if you planned to do it as a devotional or read a chapter a month. Reading quickly just felt like groundhog’s day.

I rarely give such a low rating but a really struggled with this one. Sorry to NetGalley for not providing better feedback.

All of his books are the exact same. Same stories. Same encouraging messages. Very repetitive throughout the book. And I love it. I need to hear the good over and over and over. Five stars!

This was the first book by Joel Osteen that I have ever read. Frankly, I'm not a fan of the prosperity gospel or law of attraction. While I was able to glean some encouragement from this book, it's not one that I would particularly recommend.

To his credit, Osteen does not shy away from the fact that bad things happen to good Christians. The purpose of this book is a perspective shift. It's written to people, who like me, are in a season of trials, setbacks, and discouragement. Osteen encourages the reader to look forward with expectant hope for all the good things God is getting ready to do in our lives. "Your Greater is Coming" is 200+ pages of positive affirmations, interwoven with examples from characters in the Bible and Osteen's personal life and ministry. If you're in need of hope, in need of something to break the cycle of negative thinking and dark thoughts...this might be a good book for you.

Still, I couldn't stop wondering if Osteen was selling me a false hope. Do I really believe that God universally promises a better future for all who love Him? Yes, I do. That hope is in the person of Jesus Christ and how His sacrifice made a way for us to have eternal life in Heaven. That is our better future that we look forward to...even if our future on this planet lets us down. I felt that Osteen failed to make that point clear.

Osteen promises again and again and again, promotion is coming, love is coming, influence is coming, health, finances, influence, children off course are coming back (whatever your trouble, Osteen does his best to mention it by name). The book is very repetitive. But he fails to explain that not all blessings are worldly advancement. He doesn't mention that illnesses, failures, and heartbreak don't just exist to set us up for the next great thing; they teach us compassion, humility, dependency on God, and the value of life.

Another failing of the book is that it focuses so acutely on the person and the benefit they receive from God. We know that God does great things in our lives not only to bless us with His love, but to glorify Himself (which He is totally worth of). God doesn't just bless because of His love for us, but because HE IS loving, He is generous, He is powerful, He is worth of praise. The focus shifts from us to Him.

But again, I read this book in a time of personal trial, and there were some great affirmations that I wrote down and hope to remember. Just don't read this book blindly. Look up the scriptures in context. Study God's word and see what it shows you about HIM, not yourself.

In Your Greater is Coming, Joel Osteen explored the message of hope and believing that better days are headed your way. He reminded readers that when they are going through difficult times, they must remember that the bad break that we dealing with isn’t the end. There is greater coming. It’s imperative that we keep that phrase in our spirit and dwell on it when we are facing challenges. He shared what apostle Peter said about how after we suffer for a little while and God will provide us with grace and He will restore us and strengthen us. We can have hope that the suffering we are experiencing isn’t permanent. We have to remember that we must go through the suffering and keep an attitude of faith. Joel explained how our suffering is a setup and how He can use this to take us to another level in our destiny. We wouldn’t be who we are today without going through the disappointment, setbacks, and hardships.

Joel shared a personal story about how his dad began pastoring for a good number of years. He eventually had to leave that church because Joel’s sister, Lisa was born with something like cerebral palsy and she was told that she wouldn’t be able to walk or feed herself. His father at the time took a week’s trip to seek God and study scripture. His church at the time didn’t believe that God healed in today’s times. But he was reminded that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He taught on healing at his church and he felt he was forced to leave the church. His parents went on to start Lakewood and at first services were held in an old feedstore and around 90 people showed up for the first service. Joel shared how Lisa was healed and how the church has grown over the years. His parents were able to experience greater favor, opportunity, influence, and step into what God had for them.

One of my favorite stories, he described was on a lady who had been without work for over a year. She was a sales associate who contact wasn’t being renewed. She applied at many different places and was turned down. She had an interview out of state and it come down to her and another man. On the way, there she met a taxicab driver. She explained how she had been out of work and was she had been praying and believing for a door to open for her. Later that day, the driver picked up the interviewer and he realized that they were connected and he told her who she should pick for the job. The driver sang praises for the lady and she got the job all because of how the driver portray the lady who desperately wanted the job. Joel shared how this was a hand of God and wasn’t just a coincidence. God caused someone who didn’t know her to put a good word in for her that lead to her in getting the job.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to start believing and dreaming again. We must always remember that our story hasn’t ended and if we are still breathing, then we can rely on hope and that greater is coming. I immensely loved the positive message of this book and how if we will take the extra time to let the message get into our spirit daily, we will witness a wonderful transformation and go from a caterpillar to a butterfly. God is going to do a new thing in our lives and we must not place Him in a box. I also enjoyed the story about the car charger and how Joel explained how he didn’t know that some vehicles contain cordless chargers and he used that story to explain how sometimes things don’t come in ways that we are used to or expecting them to. God could be opening up a new door but we might not be able to perceive it if we aren’t open.

I am definitely struggling to think of my review with this book because I have conflicting feelings about the message. I do not connect well with prosperity Gospel teaching and felt this book came close to that. It seemed to preach the message that if you are sick, you aren’t praying for bold enough miracles, if you got laid off, you’re not believing in the promotion enough etc.

I also struggled that all his stories about God’s hand at work all concluded with healing and something better. But what about the person that wasn’t cured of sickness? What about the marriage that never healed? I think it’s easy to write a story like this and portray your prayer life to be as conclusive as this when you are writing as a very successful author and pastor who by the world’s standards has much and isn’t lacking.

I also found I struggled with his message that not only will God heal our trauma, he will also ‘rid us of any evidence of it.’ I definitely lean more towards the idea that God will use our challenges and trials for His glory. But this means you’re talking and sharing about those stories, while acknowledging their existence in your life as they have become part of your testimony.

I liked his idea of believing that God is already at work and claiming the things we are praying for, but just struggled with approach to the examples as I think this could be very triggering to people who are in the middle of a storm. I also found his stories so repetitive to the point that I kept checking if my audiobook was accidentally skipping backwards.

Definitely some good truths in here, but overall I didn’t connect with his main approach.

Suffering happens. Osteen does not deny it but he does give his understanding of why suffering happens. It is necessary, he says, because some levels God has for us can only be obtained after difficulties. It is sometimes how God gets us out of our comfort zone and into a new place of faith for a new opportunity in ministry or something else God has for us. He uses biblical stories as well as stories from his life and the lives of others to illustrate his teaching.

Osteen emphasizes our attitude as essential in successfully coming out the other side of suffering. He encourages readers to believe God's promises. One must believe in faith even when there is no visible evidence things have changed. “You have to be more confident in what God says than in what you see.” We must not lose heart or lose faith. Part of the test, Osteen says, is that it might get worse just before the promise is manifested.

I am glad Osteen encourages us to ultimately trust God. God has us in His palm. “Nothing can happen to you without His permission.” This is a good book to read when having difficulties although Osteen does come close to a name it and claim it kind of belief. That will not be the message if readers also keep God first, as Osteen encourages. The book is a little repetitive as Osteen covers the same idea from a number of approaches.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I've read many of Osteen's books, and I always find them encouraging. Granted, sometimes they can feel a bit repetitive, but the repetition is often beneficial as a helpful reminder. The chapters are short, which makes it ideal to fit into a busy schedule, and the book could even work well as an addition to daily devotional time, reading one chapter a day/week. Overall, Osteen's latest is a great reminder that God's not finished yet!

Some of my favorite quotes include:

- "The first place we lose the battle is in our thinking."
- "Something supernatural happens when you pray in faith."
- "The setback is not stopping you; it's setting you up for new levels."
- "Once you pray, believe that it's already done."
- "Don't be discouraged by what hasn't happened yet. Your time is coming."

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.

Very hopeful book
Literally law of attraction

If you can look past the religious aspects of this book, it is a very hopeful book which I recommend.

If it was written by a law of attraction coach, replacing all “god” into “universe people might dismiss it as hearsay,
But by using “god” and saying it’s words of “god” it would become spiritual and more widely accepted. It’s comforting for many I suppose when life is hard to believe in a higher power. Dear all humans you are literally the high power itself.

What I think, so long as it helps people and it works I’m all for it.

Takeaways:
Always keep the faith
People are ordained to help you at this moment right now
You might feel stuck like cocoon but it’s a “test”
Once you have prayed for it, it has happened in the “realms”
Wait with belief and everything will come into fruition 100%

Wow, praise for the book “Your Greater is Coming: Discover the Path to Your Bigger Better and Brighter Future” by Joel Osteen

It’s another of the highly motivating and inspirational book by the author. This time the author want to get your hopes up for you to know that the time to prepare and expects for the better is now. Do not be discouraged by the seemingly negative and disappointing moments and events we faced but instead hold on to the promises of God that it’s precisely God can turn it around the very next moment for a greater better brighter future. Read it to be inspired and motivated.

This is another book from Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. I enjoyed it. He writes in simple terms; shares Bible stories; and recounts many testimonials from friends, members, and visitors, alike, while being an encourager. His family shares the wonderful testimony of God healing his Mother from cancer.
Trust God when all seems bleak, stay in faith, and believe your greater is coming is the underlying theme. Things don’t always immediately change, so don’t spend your time bitter and upset. Believe in faith that your greater is coming. You choose to be a follower of Christ which isn’t always easy.

I felt as if the book was repetitive and wondered if Joel was trying to drive words in my head. He also forecasts difficult situations as if we all have a Cinderella story, and we don't. This can be misleading to those who do not have a strong faith in God. I almost felt he was bragging about himself in certain parts.

Excellent book! I found myself rereading and reflecting very often. It was hard to read very long without stopping and thinking about what I'd read. I'm at a point in my life where I am trying to make a turn for the better and this book is what I needed!

Personally I felt that the author talked too much about self versus the topic he chose- telling the audience their greater is coming. Most of what was written didn’t even make me feel it was related to the reason why I purchased the book. A one time read was enough.
