Nelly Rosato grew up in a small fishing village where hard work and heartbreak were simple facts of life. Roger Jenkins was born to wealth and privilege. Until he met the wildcat from the north, his heart remained free.
Having lost her entire family by the time she was fourteen, Nelly knows how to survive. She has an enviable range of skills, including ancient navigation secrets learned from her Samoan grandmother.
The year is 1924 and the prohibition laws in the USA have opened an opportunity for Nelly and Roger. They build a business together: Roger supplies the liquor and Nelly delivers it. He risks his money. She risks her freedom and safety.
When her adoptive mother Mercy is senselessly murdered, it is one loss too many. Nelly wants revenge. Roger insists she wait for the local authorities to act.
While the police are chasing the wrong suspect, Nelly learns who killed Mercy. Ignoring Roger’s order that she stay home, she prepares for her most perilous run of all.
Untamed is the third and final book in the Without Mercy series. Your enjoyment of it will be enhanced by reading Unbowed, the prequel, first (available for free at most retailers). Each book contains an HEA for the main couple, but the murderer isn’t revealed until this book. The investigation begins in Unseen, continues in Unchosen, and concludes in Untamed. This book contains sexual and erotic scenes including power exchanges. If such content is likely to offend you, please don't read this book.
Strong men and feisty women populate the books of Libby Campbell, USA Today bestselling author. Her fast-paced stories are full of challenges and setbacks. Each couple finds their joyful HEA only after major differences have been resolved with classic dom/sub discipline.
Some of these books span one hundred years or more, through the magic of time travel. Others take you on a fantasy ride to a faraway galaxy or into the life of a stern billionaire. Many of the romances are contemporary. Her Without Mercy series steps back in time to the roaring 20’s, 1920’s that is.

You know you are reading a good book when you have a preconceived idea as to who did it. The ending of this book, and the series, was not at all what I expected or even conceived. This book keeps you reading right through to the end to find out the truth. This is the story of Mercy’s third daughter Nellie and her significant other, Roger. I think I liked Nellie the best of all the sisters as she seemed to be more of a free spirit, not tied down like the other two. She lives to be on the seas and it most happy with a deck under her feet and the wind in her hair. But enter Roger. From a well established family, he knows that he will do whatever it takes to make Nellie his. Their connection to each other is amazing. She needs Roger to anchor her. Roger, a firm but fair beau, helps Nellie grow and find peace with her life. It may not be in the most traditional way, but his firm guidance works for Nellie. This book keeps you reading right to the end, the reader will be shocked by who killed Mercy and why. It was a really good read, right up to the end. I was so happy that in the end, the mystery was solved and all of Mercy’s children found their Happy Ever After. I received an advance reader copy of this book from BookFunnel in exchange for my review.
Untamed is book 3 in the Without Mercy series and there is also a free prologue. Although it can be read as a standalone, it is a much richer experience to read the entire series. This series has been such a treat! I loved the historical era portrayed and very thoroughly researched and have really enjoyed the varied and wonderful relationships of the characters. You feel you are back in the 1920s and everything from the clothes to the cars to the status of certain characters embeds this feeling in the reader. Untamed features the relationship between Mercy’s daughter Nelly and her love, Roger. Nelly has possibly the most unique background in a romance that I’ve read and it is so interesting and, at times, heartbreaking (kudos to the author for the research here). Nelly has learned to be very self sufficient and the wild side of her takes a lot of risks. Roger has had many advantages but he didn’t come through unscathed. He saw the treasure in Nelly from day one as they first met when she was only 14, and he has seen the wonderful woman she has become. He also knows her reckless side must be taken in hand from time to time and he is just the man to do it! Their love and acceptance of their differences is a beautiful and romantic thing. The book also concludes the mystery of the murder of Mercy and my goodness, it is an exciting one. It certainly did not go where I thought it would and it was a very satisfying ride. I have never enjoyed a series more and even though the series has ended I’m hoping to see more from these characters (hint to Ms. Campbell!). I highly recommend this terrific story where the reader is transported to another time and is given a behind the scenes look into the lives of some extraordinary women and the men they love. I would give it ten stars if I could – it’s that good!
"Would she ever learn not to blurt out the first defiant words that flew into her head?"
In many ways Nelly stands apart from Josie and Gloria. What they have in common is the fact each was orphaned, and taken in by a single woman named Mercy.
This book is most reminiscent of the prequel, which is fitting as we discover Nelly has the most in common with Mercy, personality-wise.
Roger knew Mercy didn't care for him, or his relationship with Nelly, he could even understand some of the reasons... but his love for her is true, and his desire to protect Nelly, even from herself, is unparalleled.
This book finishes off this Kindle Unlimited trilogy. The first half of the book focuses on Roger and Nelly as a couple, and in doing so gives us as a reader more about Nelly as part of Mercy's unique family. As the whodunit returns to center stage this book ties off dangling threads from the previous stories, gives thoughtful treatment to each character, and allows Mercy, in her own unique way, to teach her girls one last lesson.
Untamed is the third book in the Without Mercy series. After reading Unseen I was hooked on this series and then I got even deeper with Unchosen. So I was waiting for Untamed and it did not disappoint. This book continues the overarching story-line of the murder mystery of Mercy Harris and then three young women who were taken in as her wards. This story centers around the Nelly Rosato and Roger Jenkins. This is an opposites attract with a powerful magnetic passion between them. Plus add in the final part of finding out who murdered Mercy and why, and then what happens is heart pounding drama.
This book is as well written as the others, with character development that is vivid, emotional and deep. The story-line of Mercy's murder is interesting and has you guessing right up until the murderer is unveiled. This series is a great read.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
This third (or more correct fourth) book is written in the same style as Mercy’s book, the prequel. Here now I was following Nelly in her quest for answers. Some things better stay buried. I liked the fact that here, more than in the other two books the focus wasn’t solely on one couple per se, but gave me the feeling of being involved with all of the black hen habitants. Evidently, like before, there’s still some questions left, but perhaps there’s no good answer… and therefore it’s better they aren’t solved. I really loved these books and am very glad to say that there’s no waste of time and money for those who want to read them. But please be aware that they really should be read in order for more understanding and that these books, each of them, holds themes of power exchange and might hold some triggers. If that’s not a problem… Enjoy your read!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the final book in the "Without Mercy" series and I must admit I was completely surprised by the solution to the mystery of who had murderd Mercy. This book tells the story of Nelly and Roger. They first met when Nelly was 14 and Roger 22. Six years later they meet again and this time the sparkle that ignited between them when they first met became a burning fire. Nelly is wild as the sea she likes to sail in, but under Roger's guidance she finds the her safe harbour. He is her ancore in the storm and she can find peace and acceptance under his strict guidance. When the story ends all the sisters will find their HEA and will come to terms with Mercy's death.
Untamed is book 3 in the Without Mercy series. It can be read as a standalone, but you will enjoy the book more if you have read the previous books. This book focuses on Nelly and her beau, Roger. Nelly is an independent and wild young woman. Roger helps to temper Nelly's impulsiveness. Nelly works with her sisters to find out who has killed their mother, Mercy. I was very surprised to find out 'whodunit'. I am sorry that the series is over and look forward to whatever this author writes as her next venture.
I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.
The storyline flowed through from the prequel to books 1, 2 and 3. I love the backstories and the melding with old Canadian history (sure glad I didn’t live there in those days). Nelly and Roger’s story was a fitting end to this series with all the different tentacles of the story melded into a brilliant ending. Those who deserved to have happiness, got it, and those who deserved to be punished got their’s too. Great reading.
I loved how the two main characters first met! Even back then when she was just a kid, she was quite feisty. As the murder mystery is investigated, the number of potential suspects sky rockets. The seance was revealing, fascinating, but quite eerie, sending goose bumps up and down my spine and arms. All in all, an amazing end to a great series
I absolutely loved this series. It just pulls you in and you don’t want it to end. The mystery is so well done you won’t see the whodunit coming. I was so surprised by the ending. Nelly’s character is unique and interesting. She is probably the strongest of the three sisters but gives her submission to Roger. I loved how they all worked together to protect their clients from Sutherland too. History, passion, and mystery come together to create an enjoyable and captivating read.
I have completed this group of book and overall I enjoyed each of them. Some parts I read because it was there I enjoyed the knowledge I gained but was not so interested in the outcome. Each to his own enjoyment. The family dynamic was great and I do so enjoy a strong woman/women story. I thought it would have been interesting should the tables be turned on the male characters. I did not predict the ending so that always pleases me in a book. Read and enjoy.
What a brilliant ending to this series! Nell got more of an adventure than she bargained for and the mystery round Mercys death is revealed! Loved it! Highly recommended.
