Every year, bugs from all walks of life make The Pilgrimage in hopes of seeing The Monarch. It's said that any bug able to survive the journey to the peak of Mount Kaefer is magically granted a single wish. The path, known as The Oak Road, is winding, strange, and full of dangers.
Which is exactly why Titan has never even dreamed of being a Pilgrim. However, the Monarch has other plans. A big beetle from a small village, Titan must brave the elements, giant creatures, and perhaps worst of all: his own doubt. Luckily he meets some world-wise bugs to help him along the way.
"Monarch: Titansong" is a tale of friendship and adventure for young readers (and readers young at heart), who love books such as "James and the Giant Peach", "Redwall", and "Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of NIMH".
Monarch: Titansong also includes the collaborative storytelling roleplaying game Monarch. Create a bug from one of the four factions and embark on your very own adventure to meet The Monarch!

(Not a romance! Since a lot of my goodreads friends are romance readers, putting this up front.)
This is a story about a bug who never fit in with his community named Titan who goes on a quest. It has all of the standard "chosen one" fantasy tropes and cleverly uses them, and then takes them in a bit of a new direction - with bugs. We have the "born different" chosen one, the going on a quest, the arrival at the Big City, the mysterious journey with insight given along the way by mysterious bugs, found family, and a fascinating thread of magic woven in along the way. The ending was wonderful - it was not what I expected at all, and I loved how it tied everything in together. There's this wonderful feeling of "not quite right" and mystery woven into the book, that keeps it from being overly cutesy and sweet.
But then. I get to the end. And this is a RPG? There is a TTRPG that you can play, based on the book? The most adorable thing I've ever heard of.
I recommend this to everyone and anyone. Redwall meets The Hike by Drew Magary. Wonderful read.
This book was such a delightful surprise! I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading it, but I found myself invested immediately. An adorable story of a beetle bug on a journey to save his community, this story speaks to the power of friendship, the thrill of adventure, and the joy of finding your way through a tough situation. I don’t want to give anything away, but even as an adult reader I thought this was such a fun story. I would have LOVED it as a young reader. I hope young or old you give this story a chance!
When I first read this, I couldn't get enough of it. I think it's a wonderful book, for all ages, by turning something anyone can see in their own backyards into a magical, mythic adventure.
Packed with loads of scuttling bug action, there's also a great amount of humor and heart built up along the way, with just the right amount of mysterious magical goings-on throughout. It's a tighly-packed, incredibly well-written little tale that asks you to consider what life would be like through an insect's eyes if they could think like us.
This book is gave me nostalgic flutters! The characters are so sweet and I became incredibly attached to them and the dynamic they share on their unstoppable power team. I don’t want to spoil or say too much but I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Do you dare voyage on the oak road? And if you would, what would you wish for if you made it to the Monarch?
Unlike their last book, -30-, Monarch: Titansong is an adventure story for any age. This is such a sweet book. The characters will touch your heart while you root and cheer them on. Not to mention, the world the author describes is one I want to visit; someone should make a theme park of it.
Dear author, do you have anything new in the works?? Asking for a friend. 👀
Grab this one! Think "A Bug's Life" meets "James and The Giant Peach". It's so exciting with such loveable characters - bugs and fantasy and adventure and friendship ❤️ It's whimsical and cute and I loved it!
This book took a direction I was not 100% expecting, but I really really enjoyed it! A fantasy adventure with different types of bugs as the main characters. I loved the description of the Monarch and how it received its powers. Great fun listen/read!!!
