Für mich war dieser zehnte Band nicht unbedingt der beste, aber unterhalten hat er mich dennoch gut.
Kat und Harry sind in New York. Eigentlich möchte Kat ihrem Mann nur ihre Heimat zeigen, aber dann werden die beiden gebeten, in einem Entführungsfall zu helfen.
Durchaus spannend und kurzweilig. Mir gefällt an dieser Reihe besonders die Zeit, in der die Geschichten spielen - in den 1920er Jahren.
Kat und Harry sind in New York. Eigentlich möchte Kat ihrem Mann nur ihre Heimat zeigen, aber dann werden die beiden gebeten, in einem Entführungsfall zu helfen.
Durchaus spannend und kurzweilig. Mir gefällt an dieser Reihe besonders die Zeit, in der die Geschichten spielen - in den 1920er Jahren.

I love this series and was so glad when this latest audiobook popped up on Scribd recently.
This is book ten and the series is still going strong. This story is set in New York, where Kat was born and grew up, and she was supposed to be showing Harry around her hometown whilst they were there on holiday. If you’re familiar with the series you’ll know that there’s no way that that was going to happen, because they always get caught up in something and this time it was a kidnapping case.
This was the first time Harry and Kat were involved in such a case and you could tell they weren’t too sure how to tackle it. Fortunately help was at hand in the guise of friends, family and a former mentor of Kat’s to guide them a long the way.
Just like in an Agatha Christie mystery everyone seemed suspicious and looked like they could be involved in Teddy’s disappearance. Harry and Kat had to work quickly to discover what was going on so that they could hopefully rescue Teddy in time, although they didn’t quite expect such a big show down, and neither did I!
I loved the descriptions of New York in the sweltering heat, and I loved the way Harry marvelled at all the sights and sounds of the city, it really made me feel like I was there with them.
As always Nathaniel Parker’s narration was perfect. I loved all the different New York accents he did for all the different characters, he really did bring this story to life in a brilliant way!
I highly recommend this on audio if you enjoy cosy mysteries set in the 1920s.

I always love the quick reads in this series. Kat and Harry are always fun and their witty banter during the tense moments of an investigation is very entertaining. For some reason, this time, the book just didn’t resonate with me. It almost seemed as if Kat and Harry were cartoon versions of themselves or something. I think maybe the circumstances and the plot just seemed ‘off’ somehow. I can’t put my finger on it exactly, but it just doesn’t come up to the caliber of the other books in the series.
Kat and Harry, Lord and Lady Mortimer, have long wanted to make a trip from England to New York so Harry can meet Kat’s family. Harry is so excited about their arrival, and he can hardly wait to begin seeing New York through Kat’s eyes. Of course, the best-laid plans often go astray and theirs certainly did. As soon as they check into their hotel, Kat receives an urgent message from her old mentor. Groan! Should they go see why they are needed – especially since the message said it was a matter of life and death.
There has been a kidnapping involving the grandson of one of New York’s richest moguls and Kat and Harry are needed to assure he is safely returned – and to recover the money if possible. With betrayals, mobsters, and dysfunctional families, the poor young man who was kidnapped may not make it home alive.
I liked Kat’s family and would have liked to spend more page time with them. It would have been much more interesting to have them more involved in the mystery – or maybe even to have the mystery revolve around them somehow. Bringing the strangers into it just cut out time we could have spent getting to know the Reilly family.
I enjoyed this book, but it definitely isn’t my favorite of the series.

This installment skips over the ocean crossing on the Mauritania and starts after Harry and Kat arrive in NYC. Before they even have a chance for Kat to show Harry around her hometown, they are asked to help a wealthy family whose youngest has been kidnapped and ransom demand has been made. They reluctantly agree and give the case their considerable attention and expertise (complete with chases, mobsters, and a shootout!).
Whether you've kept up with this series, haven't read one in over a year, or never read one at all, I guarantee that you'll be as caught up in this one as I was.
Nathaniel Parker brings the characters alive and keeps the accents different enough to make it easy to know which character is speaking as well as adding to the suspense!

Flop
I have really enjoyed all of the other Mydworth Mysteries, but this latest book felt very forced; almost like the authors were required to pump out one last book and just put something out there. The first chapter drug on as did the descriptions of the characters that really had very little role or effect on the storyline. The storyline itself was weak and left me wondering why I wasted my time. I suppose it was the steep price that I paid for the Kindle version of this book. I, sadly, do not recommend this book.

The Mydworth Mysteries all do exactly what they set out to do. They are small, short, ultra-cozy stories that feature characters you want to have as friends in a place where you would love to live. City Heat is slightly different in that it is set in NYC but I'm not holding that against it. For whatever reason, the recipe of the Mydworth, Cherringham, and Bunbury books inevitably leave me smiling and what more can I possibly ask from a cozy mystery? I love them and will continue to read all of them.

Simple sentences in a ridiculous plot
This is not the usual Costello story. Harry and Kat are almost caricatures of themselves. And the story is just too unbelievable. It portrays the two as superhuman, easily outwitting a team of mafia style thugs!
Writing is simplistic. I just wanted to get to the end, not even caring about the denouement.

Lukijana ihana Nathaniel Parker.
Nyt oltiinkin Amerikan puolella seikkailemassa. Ihan niin viihdyttävä kuin aiemmat sarjan kirjat tämä ei ollut, vaikka toki juonenkäänteitä ja vauhdikkaita tapahtumia oli taas reilusti. Pidin silti tästä, mukavan erilainen etsiväpari kuitenkin kyseessä. Ja lukijaan olen rakastunut, Nathanielin ääni ja eläytyminen toi vähintään puoli tähteä lisää.

Another fun Mystery with some obvious and some less obvious twists and turns.
I did miss the 1920's British vibes. (Not a big fan of New York) But it was overall a fun story to read.
Loved the way Kat's family reacted, the concern they have for her and the help they offered her and Harry. (Even without asking)

Lord Harry and his wife Cat are in New York for a vacation and a stay in the Plaza. Cat who grew up poor in New York is excited to visit family and to do things she dreamed of as a kid. Right away they are asked to a meeting with a mysterious wealthy man that both have never met. His son has been kidnapped and they are asked to help get him back. As usual they do it with flair

A bit soppy
This was okay and would have been better without the soppy bits. Sir Harry is English and even though fairly newly married his upbringing would have instilled in him that emotions, particularly when in public, were always firmly under check.

Always a fun read
A new setting for the adventuresome two, and nice to see it set in NYC where Kat is from. I sussed our one of the culprits, but there were very interesting twists and turns.

The City That Never Sleeps
Fun book. Just imagining Sir Harry in the Bronx Brooklyn, etc. makes me giggle. What a fun ride with Kat and Harry as they take New York. Kidnapping, extortion, and shooting kept me reading. The whole book. All in one sitting.

interesting story…
Was wondering what mayhem the authors would dream up for Kat and Harry in New York. Glad it involved the mob and baseball. I think they hit the mark. Just enough action, double dealings and betrayal to make it interesting. Thank you for the fun ride.

Not the best addition to the series. I didn't love the location change this time (bustling New York does not really work for a charming small town Mystery series) and the pacing as well as building of suspense were off to me.

It was fun to have an episode set in New York. I would have liked to have had more engagement with Kat’s family. It was definitely an interesting time in New York. Another good episode in the series.

Why drink legally at home in Mydworth when you can venture across the pond and run smack into Prohibition? And kidnap, gambling, rollercoasters.... New York in the 1920s had so much to offer a young couple in love.

A new world treat
I just wish these were longer. But it was an interesting look at New York in another error. Plot was a little predictable but still interesting.
