Just as the editions that came before it, this tome is likely the most comprehensive and in-depth there is on the invertebrates as a whole. Such a thing is quite the undertaking, considering that more than 90% of animals are invertebrates. This compendium is indispensable for any invertebrate biologist/enthusiast; every major taxonomic group is covered to the extent possible and most efficiently. Of course, the arthropods or molluscs, if absolute, comprehensive detail were the goal, would span multiple tomes the size of this one, maybe larger, just to fit all of the information that exists. Inversely, small phyla like the kinorhynchs get smaller, yet appropriate and equally, if not more valuable attention. This piece of scholarship discusses everything it can and needs to efficiently, a must-have for any invertebrate biologist. Only downside is the hefty price; if it were any cheaper, I'd likely recommend this to more people.
