I’m so glad I came across this book. The writing is exquisite, it flows beautifully, it’s well edited, and easy to read. Everything is laid out in such a unique conceptual fashion that it keeps you wondering what’s going to happen on the next page. Almost as if you were reading a story, and even though there are indeed some of the author’s personal stories, the book is still about you—the reader.

The poems throughout in the pullout boxes are powerful as well.

What impressed me most was the breakdown of the different sexual types. I am the diva, hands-down.

Although I do wish the author had told us what her type is because I think that would’ve given us something to relate to.

Also, I didn’t realize the author was African-American until I finished the book; I later went back through and realized it is mentioned only in passing. That would’ve been good to know from the beginning, because I am an African American woman as well, but there was something pretty cool about the fact that wasn’t a major player in the book. Many books I read by other African-American women focus heavily on that and victimization. There was none of that here. Her entire book was extremely empowering and gets you thinking about every single paragraph.

Sexuality is so important and so ignored in our society. And when not ignored, it is grossly exploited. Sexualization should be an art form and not a power-play. Also, the difference between sexuality and sensuality is profound. They complement each other beautifully, but are very different.

I recently read a book about slut shaming by another woman of color (Middle Eastern), Qat Wanders who talks about many of the same concepts from an out-of-box POV. Although the books are very different, they complement each other beautifully because they bring a whole new perspective to an important concept that is always a major player in our lives. That book got me thinking the way this one did.

I’m going to reread this, probably more than once, and apply the lessons and exercises in my life on the regular.

Miss Notto is a new fave of mine! Definitely hitting the follow button now.

This book was Very Eye Opening. I can honestly say its rightful position is next to Emotional Intelligence. I was naturally curious to read it but it delivered in a way that makes me feel like I need to recalibrate some of my thinking. I am a person who loves psychology and this feels like a necessary companion to good mental health. I carry some extra body weight and often wrestle with some shame around it. I love the idea "the only way to heal shame is through the heart". Shame is a dangerous thing in psychology so I was happy to see this addressed in a sensual sense. Incredible addition to my library. I am quite willing to say this might be my second all time favorite book. The author's ability to engage and her descriptive language illustrated her deep knowledge of what she speaks about. Reading was a sensual experience.

The Lost IQ’ fills a crucial gap in the somatics and holistic health fields. Shawnrey Notto brings us her bold perspective delving into the sensory and how our bodies are experienced through the lens of race, gender and the history that shapes us. In essence this book is a juicy manual that opens us up to our aliveness, our creativity, and helps us to remember how pleasure is our birthright. Notto reveals how sensual intelligence is a form of activism in stark contrast to the patriarchal and cultural conditioning that keeps us in our head, and away from the full range of our inner experience (physical, emotional, imaginal, spiritual). ‘The Lost IQ’ is refreshing in the way that it maps out how sensual expression varies for each of us and guides us to celebrate our bodies and our sexual nature.

I struggled for the first one-third or so of this book. It seemed as though the author tried to pack many very expansive topics into one book (history of feminism, her memoir, and many metaphors that felt too elusive to me). I failed to find a user-friendly definition of SI. But she won me over when referring to a self-aggrandizing "mental masturbator" who mistook attraction for compatibility (and thus sensuality for sexuality). This was brilliantly worded and unfortunately very relatable. I then began finding many gems in the work, even though I found it a lot more abstract, and thus less practical, than most of my readings. Still, the author's grace and beauty shine through. If I ever get the opportunity to attend her workshops, I will jump on it.

Brilliant Body Wisdom!

Absolutely love this book! The author has so many incredible insights. As someone who is healing from CPTSD, I have struggled with being disconnected from my body and stuck in my head. Reintegrating with the body is so important to healing. This book is a brilliant guide to becoming embodied and feeling whole, just as we were made to be. Oh, and the way the author breaks down the different types of sensual intelligence is fascinating and honestly pure genius! A must read for anyone with a body. ;)

A wonderful guide to self-reclamation. Sensual Intelligence: the Lost IQ is simultaneously deep, beautifully written and remarkably practical. I love Shawnrey's concepts, peppered with personal story, her journey into this work, and the clarity with which she outlines the Sensual Intelligence methodology. It works! As someone who also works in the embodiment fields, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book as a healing resource and guide to reclaiming the wisdom, power and joy of your body.

very insight

This book took me a bit longer than I expected, not because it’s especially long or anything but the subject matter was more heavy and intriguing than I anticipated. The author shares her story which is always brave to do. There were a lot of things to learn but the big takeaway for me was the difference between sensuality and sexuality. Overall very insightful, I highly recommend this to anyone interested in the subject matter

Very Informative

This was a great read. I never heard of Sensual Intelligence. This book takes self love to the next level. It’s all about loving your body and being and feeling free to know it, embrace it, touch it, and see it as beautiful art. This book could be a class given to high school students. Health teachers could add it to their sex education/abstinence lesson to give students a more accurate and informed positive look at themselves. Great book.
