Born into an ancient family of the Russian military aristocracy, 97-year-old Erte tells of his first 19 years in St. Petersburg, his 22 years with Harper's Bazaar, and his experiences designing costumes and sets for Hollywood films. 80 halftones, 70 color plates.
I saw this very wonderful book at Hennessey + Ingalls in Santa Monica, however, the store sells this book at a grossly overpriced cost, so I was suspicious. I don't know why it's currently marked at $250 when you can find many copies on Amazon for no more than $85. The actual title of the Hennessey + Ingalls copy reads "ERTE': MY LIFE/MY ART AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY". You've been forewarned.
Erte was truly a creative genius. From the time he was 5 through his death in his 90's he worked at his art EVERY day. A true disciplined as well as spiritual artist. Now when I think I am too old to pursue my creative dreams I remind myself that Erte was in his 70s before he even began some of his dreams. A true inspiration.
