Coiling Dragon #21

Coiling Dragon: Book 21: The Peak

Rate this book
Empires rise and fall on the Yulan Continent. Saints, immortal beings of unimaginable power, battle using spells and swords, leaving swathes of destruction in their wake. Magical beasts rule the mountains, where the brave – or the foolish – go to test their strength. Even the mighty can fall, feasted on by those stronger. The strong live like royalty; the weak strive to survive another day.

This is the world which Linley is born into. Raised in the small town of Wushan, Linley is a scion of the Baruch clan, the clan of the once-legendary Dragonblood Warriors. Their fame once shook the world, but the clan is now so decrepit that even the heirlooms of the clan have been sold off. Tasked with reclaiming the lost glory of his clan, Linley will go through countless trials and tribulations, making powerful friends but also deadly enemies.

Come witness a new legend in the making. The legend of Linley Baruch.

I'm finally done!!! The last book was rushed, and the plot device came out to play again. I was disappointed.

For me, Coiling Dragon reached its peak at book 11, then it went downhill from there. First, there's Delia the useless baggage. Second, it's the resurrecting-the-dead plot, which left a foul taste in my mouth. Call me cold-hearted if you want, but I think that kind of sentimentality didn't have a place in this kind of epic and bloody story.

Linley as MC was never truly solid, and except for his power, he also didn't grow as a character. Even in the last book of the series, after almost 12,000 years of living, he's still impetuous enough to get duped by his enemies. Other characters only appeared as they're needed for the sake of moving the plot. After that, they're either only mentioned in passing or never mentioned again.

Sorry if it seems that I'm being too hard on this series, but I'm really disappointed by those two points I mentioned above. I did like and enjoy book 1-11 though.

Rating is average 3* for book 1-11, and average 2* for the rest.

One of the best series I've ever read. It's massive 21 books series, but you will not take much time reading it. It's pure enjoyment. It's what we all read for right. And the translation is excellent.

The series is about a boy, Linley Baruch, who is a member of a dying clan, who happens to find coiling dragon ring. From then on the story picks up speed, it's one adventure after another. There is romance, tragedy, drama, huge plot twists and non stop fights. I guarantee that you will have a smile on your face as you finish each book.

Alright, Coiling Dragon is one of my favorite Xianxia* novels that I recently picked up, the ending felt a little bit abrupt.

What I really like about it, is how there's no element of collecting harem (which is infesting most of the Japanese light novels), I'd highly recommend it to any guy who read LN and fantasy lovers and it's a nice series to start reading LN and Xianxia novels.

You can find the whole series translated here (Thanks to Ren):

* The characters forming Xianxia are Xian and Xia, which literally means ‘immortal hero’. In Xianxia novels, the immortals are actually the people who simply have longer lives, not possessing eternal life or greater power than normal people, and those that people claim to be gods are simply more powerful people; in fact, they are still human.

asdfghjkl, I'm finally done the series! 2 months of binge reading these adorable books was definitely worth it. These books somehow allowed me to feel grief, happiness, sadness, anger- a lot of anger-, and pride. This is really recommended when it comes to reading eastern fantasy. 10000/5 :)

The last few books were rushed, maybe too much plot armour but overall a good story. Too bad about Grandpa Doehring.

Overall series I'd say is 3/5. Some books were great but most were average especially at the end.

IET seems to be once again unable to conclude his stories and so just… ends them without any closure

Ending was far worse than desolate era but I enjoy the setting more even if the cultivation is worse

The last minute main goal/ villain swap is a classic power scaling fuck up too which makes the ending feel like a waste when 20 pages earlier the mc is cruising towards his goal from 15 books earlier only to have it made irrelevant right at the end

Read reverend insanity instead at least there isn’t a disappointing rushed ending

One of my topmost ranking in terms of chinese novels. It's great and probably as great as King's Avatar (Quan zhi gao shu).

it took me half a year to finish this series. while the whole series are so worth reading, i have to admit the ending came a bit abrupt for me. the author took their time with the story but at the latest volume the pace is rushed. and that's why i only gave three star for the last book.

but still, Coiling Dragon is one of the best in its genre. the characters are loveable, the world is so vast and wonderful (definitely the best thing about this series)l, the plot is interesting, and some parts are so heartwrenching (my heart still ache everytime i remember Yale).

the journey was awesome, i might re-read some parts later.
