Maxwell Morgan has always been a very practical guy. He started working at age fifteen because his foster family was stretched thin. He joined the army right out of high school to earn money for college. Even after getting his first job after college, he kept working the three jobs that let him get there--National Guard infantryman, farmer, and blacksmith.
About nine months into his new job as an HR Generalist, Max’s boss arranged a one-week team-building event for the team. Max and his five attractive, female co-workers boarded the plane for Sheridan, Wyoming, and then things went sideways.
Suddenly, they were going…somewhere else. What's a practical guy to do?
JG Jerome, like his namesake main character, is a Kansas farm boy, old soldier, and 'IT Guy.' He lives, works, makes music, and writes in Arizona with his wife Heather. He dabbles in martial arts, fitness training, cooking, bread baking, photography, drawing, singing, and playing multiple musical instruments.
Haremlit stories are by their nature pretty over the top, at least in terms of characterization, but this story goes above and beyond. First we have Max, who, as an MC, knows pretty much everything and is just awesome at everything he does. And physically, of course he's the perfect specimen of rugged man, being 6ft 6, nicely built and with an 11 inch penis. (11 inch? really?) Then there is the ready-made harem he inserts himself into when he gets a seemingly nondescript job in HR at a hospital. As well as the harem he had in highschool, banging not one but all three cheerleader teams continuously, and of course, most of them were madly in love with him. Oh, and there's also the child he has with a famous porn star. Damn i don't begrudge the author for throwing out what feels like a masturbation fantasy down onto paper, i mean, that's pretty much what haremlit is, but it's just so ridiculously over the top for me that i was just shaking my head repeatedly during the story's telling. I mean, how convenient that not only are you a master survivalist, hunter and soldier, but that you managed to not just prepare for, but over prepare for gear-wise for a one way trip to the Dark Ages. Along with taking with you, not only a girl who's proficient at weaving and crafting from the middle ages, but a hot German chick who just so happened to have grown up in the exact area you find yourself in, so she can not only translate but also identify your location when you're wondering where the fuck you are. And i'm not even going to start in on the ready made replacement children for his time lost son and daughter. Some people are going to love this story and good for them, it's not a bad story really, it's just too much for me.
If you want to read about a survivalist who winds up in medieval times and starts kicking ass and collecting babes, i recommend Viking Rune Smith by M.S.Earle.
The author may feel that in spite of his warning (appreciated) I judged the book by its graphic sexual scenes. Jerome told a good story, demonstrated sound knowledge of everything from guns, hunting, and survival techniques. He should have stuck to that. To me the constant sex and relationship building between the characters (much of which I found rather sappy) interrupted the plot. He would have been better off concentrating of the characters adapting to a new time period and their survival. I would have read the second book in the series but in the epilog the author made it clear the next book was going to take a twist into fantasy, something I'm really not into, but thanks for the heads up.
Though I found this fist book both original and entertaining, I nearly didn't finish it. Almost half of the book went by before the main story started. It starts slow, gives a lot of background, and spends a long time developing the main characters and their history. The MC himself is very Gary Stue, being perfectly suited for an encounter like the one they have. In addition he is very well endowed both physically and... Ahem... Sexually. And the instant way all of the female characters seem to instantly fall in love with him is unbelievable. That said the story has potential and a certain charm. It will never be a classic, but it's fun entertainment and worth a read for someone looking for a bit of escapist fun. If that is what you like, give it a read. If not, give it a pass.
Overall I recommend this book because it's got some good points I mean I give it 3 out of 5 stars and the reason I didn't give it 4 or 5 stars it's because there's too much whininess in the story. Good use of a unique theme about going back in time and about being in the Germanic. Before the Romans really collapsed but still there was just too much wininess yes and I found it very irritating heaven to constantly stop and forgot what German words meant. At some point I think the author should have just made it where everyone finally understood the language and switched over to writing in English because having all those German words all over the story just distracted from the story.

A student goes thru high school charming the cheerleader squads an army bound thru school later college charming cheerleader squads thru graduation then HR for a career . Thru it all develops relationship with co workers buys some land builds a home has 2 kids makes it all work some how . Great beginning series .
Max is a soldier with ranger training. He comes from a poor background and has worked hard all his life. He is into survival activity which comes in handy when the very unexpected happens. When their plane goes down, he and his female team from work find themselves working to survive in a wilderness somewhere. Making the things they need to live is a high priority. Defence from marauders is necessary. Good thing they brought their guns. I like the action, humor, and love/lust. I look forward to the next book.
I'm new to this author and was pleased to find the quality of his writing to be at the top in this genre. The storyline is intriguing, the characters are interesting and well developed. There is plenty of excitement, and some occasional humor. I liked that the female characters are quite varied with each being both ept and attractive in her own way. The survival concepts were well established based on the background of each of the characters. Looking forward to book 2.
Turned out to be a darn good read. Yes it's a slow burn harem and it is easy to see where that part is going but the characters are relatable and well imagined. Even the mundane basics of setting up their camp is engrossing. There are twists that weren't immediately apparent and bode well for future stories. The last pages I didn't see coming. I don't know how the author will manage to pull it all together but I really want to find out!
Mr. Jerome has my attention! The title was somewhat of a clue but he didn’t give it up until towards the end of the book. As a time travel story, it was different than others, and I’ve been reading sf for 50+ years.
This was a well written book, and held my attention throughout. In fact, I had to finish it before bed at 1am.
It definitely needs a continuation book or series!
I had to finish this book in one sitting. The characters are unique and are more realistic than many fictional characters, and the love that binds them all together feels organic and authentic. I have read many books with a similar premise (present day humans relocated to the primitive past), and this one is on par with the best of them. Thank you for creating this world for us to enjoy, Mr. Jerome.
I can say with complete honesty that this is the first CHAD type protagonist I’ve start a book with has there not usually the archetype most authors us. This became a first has threw the book all I want to do was hit him over the head a tire-iron.
How you make such a chacther dear g%% no one asked you to make the perfect man all it did was alienest the reader and hope the finished quicker.
A modern day HR Generalist and prior military Special Ops trained reservist gets pulled back in time!! Using his and girlfriends skills gets them ready for a week of glamping in Wyoming. His airplane ride leaves him and co-workers stranded in the mountains. What they finally realize creates a great story of survival. A great, quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. JG Jerome, tells a great story you won't put down!! Happy reading!
I really enjoyed this read. The characters are well defined and the dialog is interesting. I stayed up a couple of nights because I got engaged with this book. Many books like this one has so many details that I find myself skipping sections, but this one has enough detail to describe a scene but not so many as to become cumbersome. If you are looking for a book where the women just fall in to bed with the antagonist, this is not your read. There is a little work on the part of the protagonist to actually be realistic.
Wow,wow, wow!!!! Okay it was an excellent story before the ending through me for a loop de loop!!!! Excellent and I mean excellent world building while keeping the story flowing. Some fantastic characters with dynamic interactions!!!! I really can't wait to see what happens next!!!
Couldn't give this one 5 stars. The book started well but didn't really end. The author apparently just got tired of writing this story and grafted on a disconnected epilogue with characters that had never been seen previously. I will probably buy the sequel, if one is written, just to see if I can learn how book 1 turned out.
This one is a tough one to categorize without spoilers. While most of the book was enjoyable, the epilogue jumped the shark. Just don't read it and pretend it doesn't exist. That alone might give a star back. The relationships are interesting, the survival bit is always a fun read, and I think I'd enjoy reading some of the combat going forward if the series continues.
The emotional content is repeated ad nauseam, once is fine. A reminder is okay, every few pages and I just feel like you are beating me over the head with it. The start is very slow, the first twenty percent is just boring.
New author for me,thought I would give it a try. I like the story but was surprised that the MC would show his enemies the modern weapons so soon. He better hoard the ammo,it will go fast. Look forward to the next book.
Am a huge fan of this author and literally buy everything he releases. This was a nice surprise and can’t wait to see what happens next with Max and his growing harem.
Well I have to say that it started slow but was still a good read. I guess this is some sort of harem lit genre book. Interesting take on open relationships as well as time travel. Ha!f the book w
Max is an interesting fellow with an interesting tale to tell. A soldier turned HR individual who doesn't really fit into the world he lives in. Good read. Looking forward to know more about how it turns out in future books.
Overall good read. Looking forward to second book. A good reference text is Barnes, Cartridges of the World. The author has put together a cast with interesting skill sets.
Author is good enough to make you think the story is leading in a good direction. But he drags us to a crappie place you don't want to be. I cannot recommended this book, and I have to recommend you give it a Hard Pass.
Ten inch.Big Heart.Self centered or just naive? The typical guy with unusual facets… A new start in the past let’s our leading character conquer a new old dimension or is it just a cruel trick of the demiGods…
This book was ok. As the said author said in the prelude. There is a lot of sex in the book. The plot was a little bit thin. I read it to the ring but I do not consider reading the second book.
Seriously, this book is pretty good, and would be better with a bit less sex and discussion of penises. It comes across like "Outlander" written by a terminally horney 14 year old boy.
What is it with the “I’ll do anything for my mates “ thing.I would just get into the story and more affirmations of love and devotion again and again and again in my opinion it detracts from an otherwise good story
