Handsome Amish men like Elden Yoder don’t fall for big girls like Millie Koffman, so she’s sure he bid on her charity-auction cake by mistake. Only it’s all part of Elden’s plan to woo his pretty neighbor—and put his failed engagement behind him. But as the past threatens their new courtship, can they overcome their own insecurities…and find love for Christmas?
From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.
I so enjoyed this story! I am very happy that the two characters portrayed on the cover actually match their descriptions in the book. Millie is a larger young woman and Elden is a tall and handsome young man. They have known each other as acquaintances for years, yet Millie never, ever believed they could end up together romantically.
Interestingly enough, both characters dealt with self confidence issues which, along with some communication issues, caused them some problems. Yet, I loved the way their courtship came about and some of the early moments between them when Eldon was trying to figure out how to convey that he wanted to court Millie. It made my heart happy. They were such a sweet couple.
This is the first book in a new series and I am looking forward to reading more stories about Millie’s sisters.
I enjoyed this clean, Love Inspired, Amish Romance. I bought this at a local store and I voluntarily chose to review this book.. I've given it a 4.5* rating. This book did nail down a lot of feelings that go along with what a heavier person is bombarded with from other people and media. I thought that it was just a touch too much. However, not being Amish, I'm not sure how much. Parts of the story were very touching, getting into some of the feels that may need a hanky. As with all people, dealing with older family members and the ageing process, the father surrounded by all girls presents some of it's own problems. This was an engaging and enjoyable story.
Her Surprise Christmas Courtship is an inspiring story written by Emma Miller. I have read all of her books and have never been disappointed. I enjoyed getting to know Millie and Eldon's story. This story shows us it doesn't matter your body type but the person you are on the inside. There is love, laughter, family, and faith throughout this story. The characters are very well developed and add a lot to the story.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
I put together a stack of Christmas books to read this December and this was my first pick. A sweet and wintery Amish romance, I really enjoyed meeting all of the secondary characters and look forward to reading more in the series.
Loved reading realistic characters as Emma Miller often writes. A sweet story about how our insecurities can keep us from seeing what is right in front of us.
As longtime friends/neighbors, Millie Koffman and Elden Yoder, begin spending more time together, their friendship begins to take a turn. However, lack of self confidence and insecurities threaten the path of their relationship. Watching Millie and Elden navigate through everything, grow in their relationship and put their trust in God was inspiring and a joy to watch, making this a beautiful and endearing read.
Book Quote:
Don't fret over the things you can't control. Let them go, her mother had always said. Trust in Gott and His ways
Emma Miller's new Amish romance series, Seven Amish Sisters, finds seven young women and their father learning to cope with life after their mother has died. Reader's learn of the struggles facing each character. Each sister is unique in size, temperament, likes and interests. Millie and Elden's romantic journey is the feature story of this first title. For various reasons, neither of these two young Amish considers themselves to be a lovable person...not good enough. They feel rejected and not worthy.
Her Surprise Christmas Courtship by Emma Miller is book #1 in her Seven Amish Sisters series. I enjoyed this one so much. It's not often you get to read about a bigger girl being pursued by a handsome guy. I loved reading about how each of them had insecurities and that they had to overcome them if they both wanted a happy ever after. It also had such a sweet epilogue. I shed some tears. It was a great book and I'm looking forward to reading book #2 in the Seven Amish Sisters.
A sweet, well written Amish romance. I like that Millie didn't fit the slim model image and was appreciated for the delightful person she truly was. Elden's mother was a character, not always in a good way, but I came to care for her as the story progressed. Best of all, there's many more stories to come with Millie's sisters, all of whom have interesting traits.
Millie and Elden have been neighbours a long time but haven’t interacted since youth. Elden is still reeling from his heartbreak being dumped by his betrothed. Millie lacks confidence as one of the few overweight women in her community. Neither one is sure they will ever be loved.
Millie’s family is a joy to read about and I loved the meddling mother-in-law.
#Emma Miller #7 In The Seven Amish Sisters Series Her Surprise Amish Courtship Elden Yonder and Millie Koffman are neighbors .Elden wants to woo his pretty neighbor. They have insecurities to over come .Well these insecurities keep them from finding love.To find out get this 5 star book today .
(The constant--and I mean in every single chapter--self doubt, self dislike, lack of confidence, etc from Millie was too much. It was a lot to read and I wish there had been personal growth there.)
Another short sweet Amish read❣️ Loved how the author addressed Millie’s self esteem due to being plus sized, feeling ugly, body shamed. Unworthy of a handsome suitor. I often wish we were all gender/weight/beauty/culture/racially blind.
When I saw that this was an Amish romance featuring a plus sized heroine, I knew I had to read it. Millie was kind and intelligent, though quite insecure and that really jeopardized her romance with Elden. That part of the book made me very annoyed with her, because Elden definitely didn't deserve it. She didn't even let him explain himself. Ugh. Still, I did like her. Elden was a very likable hero, with his kindness and willingness to be there for others. Millie kinda didn't deserve him at parts, but then, I suppose those parts helped the two of them really get over past issues. I loved the rest of Millie's sisters, as well as her poor father. Elden's mother actually ended up being likable by the end, which I thought was pretty impossible at first. I read this in one sitting, so though I did have issues, that should tell you how much I enjoyed this. I loved the familial aspects, the Amish ways highlighted in this book, and found the book to be an easy, quick read.
