An Amish Proposal for Christmas is a clean Amish romance set in modern-day Indiana. I don't usually read many Amish stories, but this book made me feel at home. I loved the Yoder family dynamics, the "small-town" feel, and especially the bustling outdoor market. The author also kept me wondering how in the world our main characters' stories were going to resolve; Becca and Gideon had such different goals and personalities that in some moments, it seemed nearly impossible for them to end up together. This made the resolution that much more satisfying.
However, shockingly much of the book does not take place at Christmas: only the last twenty or so pages are set around the holiday. This disappointed me more than I'd thought it would. Doesn't the cover imply that this is a Christmas romance? I am very grateful that there was indeed an , but overall this wasn't actually a Christmas story.
Readers of clean romance, Amish fiction, and/or Love Inspired romance may find themselves enjoying An Amish Proposal for Christmas. Though Becca's narrative wasn't all I'd expected it to be, I am still looking forward to the other siblings' stories as the series continues (the Yoder girls remind me delightfully of the sisters in Little Women!).

I have been reading Vannetta Chapman's books for years. This is the start of a new series called Indiana Amish Market. Becca and her four sisters live with their father, their mother has passed away. The father runs the family's enormous outdoor market. Becca has an urge to do some traveling and leave Shipshewana, Indiana behind while seeing what the world has to offer. With her father's blessing she'll be able to travel after training her replacement, Gideon. Gideon is from Texas and misses it greatly and is pretty unhappy his parents have sent him to Indiana to work and he's not afraid to let Becca know how unhappy he is. How to make Gideon stay and enjoy his job so she can leave is Becca's biggest worries. Becca and Gideon's relationship is like oil and water. I wasn't too sure if they could ever get along, but God has a way of changing people for the better. I enjoyed seeing the relationship come alive between Gideon and Becca. We get to meet Becca's four sisters as well and get to know a little about them. I enjoyed reading about the large outdoor market and how it worked. I am sure it would be very enjoyable to visit. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series.
Publication Date September, 2022 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
An Amish Proposal for Christmas By Vannetta Chapman Chapman did it again. She has written the first of a brand new series, An Amish Market Romance. I loved it. I love these Amish Market stories and can’t wait to read the next one. I enjoyed watching the two main characters get to know one another. Both has different wishes. One can’t wait to start a new life and the other wants to go back home. This is a beautiful love story. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This story was so heartwarming and sweet! The author captured the restlessness of the soul that is so easy to fall into in life. Whether it is wanting to travel and explore new places when you have only ever lived in one small community, or feeling homesick for your home state when you have moved across the country to a new one, it can be hard to be content. I enjoyed seeing the growth that both Becca and Gideon experienced in this novel.
Their romance was gentle and understated, which really worked well for this story. I could feel the interest grow for both of them. Some of their firsts together, such as holding hands or sharing a kiss, were even more special for the way it seemed like the natural next step, but also a little scary at the same time.
This is the first book in a new series and I am looking forward to reading as this family of sisters finds their happily-ever-afters in future books.

Another great story by Vannetta Chapman. This an Amish story that's a bit of a twist. For, you see, Becca Yoder wants to be a missionary. A highly unusual task for an Amish young woman. Becca has obtained her dad's permission to become a missionary. He isn't happy about it but he doesn't want to stand in the way of her dreams. Becca has always wanted to see the world and help people too. Then Gideon comes from Texas to help run her family's gigantic outdoor market. Becca doesn't mean to but she likes Gideon. Gideon is homesick for Texas and Becca decides she doesn't want him to leave. Such a sweet and delightful story. So many emotions, so many tender moments and so many decisions. A fantastic story to begin your Christmas reading! You're going to love it!
My first Vanetta Chapman (in fact, first Amish) book, but won't be my last.
Ms. Chapman has a way of allowing you to escape into a simpler life. Her characters are well developed and story pure.
If you're looking for a sweet respite from a busy, hurried life let Ms. Chapman take you away to Indiana. You might just be reminded of values that are important to you and take the time to enjoy day-to-day life even more.
This is the first book in another WUNDERBAAR series set in beautiful Shipshewana, Indiana. Chapman perfectly captures the chemistry between spunky Becca Yoder and shy Gideon Fisher as she trains him to take over her job at the largest outdoor market in the Midwest. He loves and longs for his home in Texas; she promotes Shipshewana 24/7 but dreams of leaving it to see the world beyond. Could love somehow blossom and persuade them both to stay? Along the way, their lives and plans are impacted by several interesting elderly Amish neighbors - I absolutely loved the wisdom of Nathan and Elizabeth. I also enjoyed the loving support and camaraderie among the five Yoder sisters, and can’t wait to see how the four remaining stories play out in future books! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and was not required to post a review.
Well, I just really enjoyed this sweet romance. It was so enjoyable to watch the characters change and grow in the their own respective ways. Becca had a goal to travel and needed to train a replacement for her job at the Amish Market. Gideon's father sent him from Texas to Indiana to fill Becca's shoes. He is missing Texas and his smaller community of Beeville. As the story continues, the love story starts to bloom. Going from friends to falling in love in a sweet way was fun to see. It was interesting to read about her plans to join the Mennonite Disaster Services and to find out about what they do to help others. I love Amish Markets and shops so it was a fun read.
I received a copy of this book from the author and was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
Amish Fiction is my favorite Genre to read and I have come to enjoy Vannetta Chapman's books. An Amish Proposal for Christmas is Book 1 in the Indiana Amish Market series.
I truly enjoyed this book as the storyline is a bit different than most Amish books. Becky Yoder's dreams of becoming a Missionary are about to become reality. The only holdback is finding someone to run the Family Outdoor Market in Shipshewana, Indiana. Gideon Fisher comes from Texas after his parents believe if he has a change of scenery he might find a love interest at 28yrs old. I really love how Becky and Gideon get to know each other as friends and Becky is fighting the feelings she has for him. Gideon is wanting to go back to Texas, but Becky sets to work to change his mind to stay in Indiana. I truly enjoyed seeing Becky train Gideon and at the same time reconsider her goal of becoming a missionary as her friendship with Gideon grows. The book is a WONDERFUL Clean Amish Romance book and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Clean Christian Romance books! GREAT BOOK!
An Amish Proposal for Christmas is written by Vanetta Chapman. This is book 1 of 2 in the Indiana Amish Market series. I love reading anything by this author. She always writes such heartwarming stories that you will want to get lost in.
We meet Becca Yoder. She has dreams of serving the needy with the Mennoite Disaster Services. She really wants to see more of the world. Her father has given his permission but she must train her replacement. She is in charge of training Gideon Fisher to take over for her in the Shipshewana Outdoor Market. What Becca did not count on is the attraction she feels when she meets Gideon. They are opposites Becca is a bit bossy and Gideon is quiet and reserved.
Gideon was sent by his family from Texas to become the Assistant Manager. He starts to feel very homesick. I really enjoyed seeing these characters grow throughout the story. Their romance was so adorable to watch. The author wrote her scenes in a way that you can see everything unfolding as you read.
Thank you to the author, publisher and JustRead Publicity Tours - all thoughts are my own.
A unique story of growing where you're planted . . .
One of my favorite sayings is, 'Grow where you're planted.' That quote certainly rings true for the lead male character in this story, Gideon Fisher.
At age twenty-eight with no prospects of marriage, Gideon's parents feel a change would do him good. So they send him from his comfortable Texas farm life to work at a sprawling Amish market in busy Shipshewana, Indiana. Gideon's reluctance to leave his quiet, small-town home leads him to develop a bad attitude which becomes quite evident to those around him in his new surroundings.
Twenty-four-year-old Becca Yoder is one of the five daughters of widower Amos Yoder, and she is the Assistant Manager at their Amish market. Independent, spirited, and determined, Becca is anxious to move away from home and discover the world—and herself—as a volunteer for the Mennonite Disaster Services organization.
From the moment they meet, sparks fly between Becca and Gideon. I did not like Gideon very well at the beginning of the story because he was snarky and seemed out of place as an Amish man. Strong-willed and capable, Becca met his bad attitude with her own less-than-positive attitude.
As the story progresses, readers will learn more about what truly makes these two individuals who they are and why they behave the way they do. Some interesting aspects of the story included how the Amish market was operated and how the Mennonite mission organization Becca was affiliated with worked.
There are a number of supporting characters in the story which were quirky in their own way who added depth and humor to the plot. I love the Christmas holiday season, so the Christmas events in the story were fun and enjoyable to read about.
The book is completely clean in language and content.
I received a copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.
This was a fun story with grumpy Gideon feeling like a fish out of water in a new state with a new job. I didn’t expect him to struggle as much as he did, and Becca is in limbo with her plans for adventure and travel depending on Gideon’s decision to stay or go back to Texas. The large Amish market is a great setting, and really kept them busy. I loved the way Gos worked on their hearts to reevaluate and give things a chance, opening the door for friendship and more. The sweet romance has some bumpy roads as Becca feels conflicted over her dreams and her love of home and family. We get to know all the sisters in Becca’s family with their unique personalities; this was a great introduction to them and I’m looking forward to reading more in the series!

An Amish Proposal For Christmas is another wonderful story written by Vannetta Chapman. This book is the first book in The Indiana Amish Market Series. The setting for this book was the beautiful Amish Community of Shipshewana, Indiana. Several of the places mentioned in this story really do exist in Shipshewana. It was so nice to read about places that I had visited. The main characters in this story were Becca Yoder and Gideon Fisher. You will fall in love with both of them as well as Becca's Dad and her four unmarried sisters. Becca has lived in Shipshewana her whole life and longs to travel with the Mennonite Disaster Service. Her problem is that she manages The Amish Market, which is her father's business. Her father said she could go if she found and trained a replacement for her. Her father hires Gideon to be her replacement. Gideon is from Texas and is very homesick and extremely shy. Will Gideon be able to manage The Amish Market and will Becca be able to leave Shipshewana and travel with The Mennonite Disaster Service? The only way you will find out the answers is to pick up a copy of this book and read it yourself! Did I mention that once you start reading this book, you won't be able to put it down? I finished reading this book in one sitting! I guarantee that you will love this book too! Vannetta Chapman writes the best books ever!!
It’s amazing what can happen when you open your heart and step out in faith!
I am a firm believer that opposites attract. I myself am married to my total opposite in every since of the word, but there is something endearing about our match, even if there are some unique challenges. This is where we find Gideon and Becca, two halves of the same whole that compliment each other, even if it takes them both some time to see it.
Becca is a powerful and headstrong Amish gal that was refreshing to see. Though she is Amish she is not letting that deter her from breaking from the traditional and fighting to see this big, beautiful world. She is optimistic, energetic, and a hard worker that doesn’t meet a stranger. Everyone loves and knows Becca.
Gideon, on the other hand, can be summed up with one word: sourpuss. He is newly employed as Becca’s replacement at the local Indiana market, and is a transplant from Texas, a home that he left against his will, and he lets Becca know it. Add to this fact that he’s a loner, preferring to be farming in south Texas, rather than working in the “largest outdoor market in the Midwest” as an assistant manager, a position that requires a lot of human interaction. All he can talk about is Texas, and all Becca can talk about is Christmas, her favorite holiday. They both annoy each other for a good part of the novel, which goes into the friends to lovers troupe, and one that I always enjoy reading.
Though on the surface Gideon and Becca seem to be opposites, they are both the “odd ones” in their families, and once they both steps out in faith, and stops fighting their situation, that’s when eyes and hearts are opened, and what God intended is fleshed out. This is such an endearing transformation, and one that I was in awe to witness.
“Love. Respect. First things first.”
This is sage advice from the wise old Nathan to Gideon in one of their deep discussions, and it is a mantra that sticks with Gideon throughout a large part of this novel. This whole scene really tugged at my heartrstrings and has stuck with me too! It is a mantra we all should abide by. If we all had our priorities straight just think how different our world would be!
This was such an enjoyable read for me that flew by way too fast! There were parts that I audibly chuckled at, parts I was smirking and nodding my head, and parts that I sighed with contentment, feeling all the feels as I read about these two wonderful people. A very character-driven novel that as the perfect flow and such amazing heart, I highly recommend An Amish Proposal for Christmas. It truly is amazing what can happen when you open your heart and step out in faith.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
Vannetta has been one of my favorite authors for quite some time! I have loved each and every book that she has lovingly created, from the Amish genre to the Futuristic. Her unique style of storytelling grabs one’s interest immediately and keeps the reader totally engrossed from start to finish. This book is the first in a new series entitled “Indiana Amish Market”. It lived up to my expectations as had every other of Vannetta’s novels.
Characters are so vividly described that you are pulled into their lives experiencing each challenge, joyful and heartbreaking experience. Daniel is certainly NOT what you would expect. A quiet Amish farmer is not what he is! Nor is Becca the typical Amish girl! I loved the spunky attitude that Becca displayed over and over again! Daniel was quite an individual! He had his own opinion and had no desire to change!
The plot moves quickly as Becca encounters one obstacle after another , keeping her from “discovering the world”. Will Daniel help her achieve her goals or will she remain in her “boring” existence?
This is a five star novel, not to be missed!! I can hardly wait for book two in this series!
I received this book as a gift and was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.
This is a wonderful introduction to Chapman’s new series Indiana Amish Market. The story is set in beautiful Shipshewana, Indiana with the largest outdoor market in the Midwest.. Becca works with her father at the market. Gideon was sent to Shipshewana to fill Becca’s position, as Becca desire is to join Mennonite Disaster Service and travel to see the world. The chemistry between Becca and Gideon was rough initially but over time a budding romance. What’s going to happen when Becca receives her call from MDS and receive her father’s blessings to go?
Chapman’s writing is always a joy to read as her stories are filled with great characters, picturesque scenes and events to bring an uplifting and heartwarming tale. I look forward to reading this entire series to see how Amos Yoder and his other four daughters lives will change in a touching story from Chapman.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author without any obligation to write a positive review. I have shared my own thoughts.
An Amish Proposal for Christmas is an excellent story written by Vanetta Chapman in her Indiana Amish Brides series. I absolutely loved the characters. They mad me smile, chuckle, and get teary eyed. I love that the story centered around the Shipshewanna Flee Market a place that is near and dear to me. I visit the market at least twice a year and sometimes more so as I read this story I felt like I was right there walking the isles. This story had a great message in it and I loved how everything played out. Another amazing read by this author who never disappoints her readers.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. I am looking forward to more inspirational stories by this author.
This was a charming book to read and managed to make me forget that I have Covid for just a bit. The Yoder girls are all wonderful characters. They are all the same yet different and together with their father are a fabulous family to get to know. Shipshewana is one of my favorite Amish communities so I was thrilled to read this book based there and was happy to get into Christmas and the holiday season. It is never too early for me. Thanks to Vannetta Chapman for my copy of this book in return for an honest review. I love everything that Vannetta writes and this book was no different. I loved Gideon. I enjoyed how he became more confident over time and was the super handsome guy I knew he would be. Never read an Amish fiction book before? This is a must read. Amish fiction at it's finest. Already an Amish fiction fan? Then add this to your Christmas reading list you will not be disappointed and if you are already a Vannetta fan this will only enforce why. Loved everything about it!!
This was such a sweet Christmas story! Christmas is my favorite time of year, and I'm already looking forward to my December reading list. I was excited to get a bit of a head start on the seasonal reading with this Amish Christmas story!
This is the perfect book to read if you want a little bit of Christmas, but it's not Christmas season yet, because most of this story actually takes place well before Christmas. Rebecca Yoder spends her summer training Gideon Fisher to take her place as assistant manager in the Amish market that her father runs, so that she can chase her traveling dreams as a volunteer with an Amish relief services organization. It isn't long before her heart tears between her yearning to see the world and her growing affection for Gideon. While I expected this story to mostly take place during the Christmas season, I was kind of relieved under the circumstances of the plot to see that the timeline was much more drawn out - no insta-love here! The pace of Rebecca and Gideon's relationship feels very realistic, yet the timing of the turning point brings lots of Christmas season atmosphere into the story.
This did feel a little different from other Amish books that I have read in that I didn't feel as immersed in Amish culture This wasn't necessarily a bad thing; just different than I had expected. I also would have appreciated a glossary - Chapman sprinkles German words throughout the dialogue, and while I did eventually grasp their meaning through repetition and context clues, it would have been helpful to have them clearly defined.
This was a fun little escape and a quick read - I devoured it in about a day! I had fun getting to know Rebecca and Gideon and I'm looking forward to reading the other stories in the Amish Marketplace series. If you are looking to read an Amish romance with a bit of Christmas spirit, look no further!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
# Vannetta Chapman An Amish Proposal For Christmas Becca Yoder dream has been to leave the Amish Community she lives in and traveling the world. If she trains Gideon Fisher to run the family's enormous outdoor market. Her father is reluctant to give his permission for her to go. Gideon is home sick for Texas. Can he learn to fit in Shipshewana. What happens to Becca and Gideon. What happens to the Market Place. This is a great book.To find out what happens read it and enjoy it as much as I did.Vannetta Chapman is a great author. Its a 5 stair book
"An Amish Proposal for Christmas" by Vannetta Chapman is a delightful, fun, easy to read "Love Inspired" holiday story. I really liked the town, characters, and especially getting to know Gideon and Becca as they navigated job training and learning new things about each other. After having spent the entire summer in Texas, I could totally relate to some of Gideon's comments about living in Texas. I liked that Becca was determined to make a difference with helping and serving others, even if it meant leaving her family and town. She seemed to have a big heart and good intentions. I also liked seeing Gideon evolve and give the new job and town a chance. I enjoyed reading this story! I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
An Amish Proposal is book # 1 in the Indiana Amish Market Series by Vanetta Chapman. Rebecca Yoder (Becca for short) has been given permission by her father to become a missionary. It's her lifelong dream. All she has to do is train the new manager to take her place at her father's Amish Market. Gideon Fisher has been sent to Shipshewana from Texas. He longs for home and Becca longs to be out there helping people. As they work together, feelings start to develop. Can these feelings be enough? Will they want to stay or does God have other plans for them? I know you will want to find out. I loved reading about shy Gideon and bossy Becca (LOL that's what Gideon thinks when he first meets her). It does not have an epilogue, but you will be satisfied with the ending. It was a beautiful story that not only has great main characters, but I know you will fall in love with the side characters as well like me. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm so happy this is a series! I was given a copy of the book, but all opinions are my very own.
