Dead bodies are expected in cemeteries, but not simply thrown into an open grave. The newspaper’s notorious food reviewer had plenty of enemies in the small town of Oak Hill, Georgia. Unfortunately, it’s Emily Buchanan’s good friend Trish who is the prime suspect since the biscuits that killed him came from her bakery.
As Emily tries to balance running Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast and working to bring her late husband’s spirit home, she also has to help clear Trish’s name. After all, someone Emily knows and trusts could never be a killer… could she?
Beth Dolgner writes paranormal fiction and non-fiction. Her interest in things that go bump in the night really took off on a trip to Savannah, Georgia, so it's fitting that the Betty Boo, Ghost Hunter Series of paranormal romance novels takes place in that spooky city. Beth's young adult novels, the steampunk Manifest and the urban fantasy A Talent for Death, also have paranormal elements. Her non-fiction work includes Georgia Spirits and Specters and Everyday Voodoo.
Since Georgia is obviously on her mind, you might think Beth lives there. Well, she did, but these days she and her husband live in Berlin, Germany, with their three cats. Beth misses those mild Georgia winters and proper iced tea, but there's no reason her characters can't enjoy those things.
Beth also enjoys giving presentations on Victorian death and mourning traditions as well as Victorian Spiritualism. She has been a volunteer at an historic cemetery, a ghost tour guide and a paranormal investigator. Right now she's chronicling the best spooky spots around Europe.
It’s nice to be back with these characters! As with the rest of the series, I loved this book.
I also enjoyed seeing more of the characters and having them developed a bit more. Trish was a nice surprise in this book because we did not previously know much about her. So, it was nice to see her. It was also nice to have gotten a bit more from Trevor. As always, loved seeing Reed, Jen, Sage, and officer Danny, as well as the usual ghosts of the Bed and Breakfast back.
I especially loved how we are slowly getting a peak at what is going on with Emily’s late husband’s spirit and how she is working her way to trying to find and contact him. I can’t wait to see more of this in the next book!
Only 2 more left in the series, which I hope means there are more to come. Emily and Sage are wonderful characters and I'm so happy I discovered the series. I've been binge reading since yesterday and I really want to go work for Emily at Eternal Rest, even though I might get a little scared about the ghosts!
This is another fun adventure at Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast that I just loved, I don't think I have given a single book in this series anything less than a five star. Once again the author entertains the listener with an intriguing plot that keeps you guessing and delightful characters. This is book five in the series and I sure hope the author still has lots of plot ideas for future books because I for one don't want the series to end. I love the characters, both the living and the ghosts who make there lives difficult. This ghost was highly amusing with some of the antics and problems he caused. The main character and her trusted group of friends are also likeable and people that you would want to spend time with, even if you are not a believer but I think with this book even the hard pressed non believers would be hard pressed to deny there presents. The mystery was good, although I might have been shouting at the characters as they missed the most obvious clue, okay shouting might be a bit strong but it did seem to take them a while. I think this book might be the first one in the series that I knew the killer before they did, it was still a lot of fun. I can't wait for the next book. Trevor's father has passed away and despite the man having once tried to kill her, Emily still wants to support her friend by attending the funeral. The mourners get a big surprise when a dead body is found in an open grave. The dead man was the most hated man in town, after writing a bad review about nearly everybody in town, Emily's B&B included. Then Emily receives a phone call from her friend Trish asking for help, the dead man himself blames Trish for his death and is haunting her bakery. The police also think she could be involved when it is discovered its her cookies shoved in his mouth. Can Emily and her medium friend Sage convince the ghost he is accusing the wrong person? Or more importantly the police? Then evidence starts to turn up pointing the finger at Emily. The only way to help the ghost and the police is to find the killer themselves. I like the narrator and hope she sticks with the series for any future books to come because for me she is the voice of Emily and her friends. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Breakfast Included is Book #5 in the 'Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast' Series.
Emily Buchanan is a young widow and runs the haunted Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast. She took over from her grandparents, and shared her duties with husband Scott. Tragically he died 2 years ago in a suspicious car crash; and Emily has been trying to communicate with him since.
The ghosts at Eternal Rest are like family to Emily. Mrs. Thompson, her former assistant, died from natural causes and preferred to stay on; as well as Kelly a teenage ghost whose bones were found in the adjacent historic Hilltop Cemetery. Her psychic medium best friend Sage Clark, tried to help Kelly Stern cross over, after she and Sage solved her murder, but she also decided to stay. So these along with some other not so active ghosts dwell at the B & B.
This weeks' guests are a party of six; ghost hunters from Indiana. Normally these groups take readings of the B & B, and the neighboring cemetery, but Emily was asked by a local florist if she had any ghost hunters staying at Eternal Rest. So while the ghost hunters were taking readings at the florists', Emily was attending the funeral of Benjamin Williams. Mr. Williams, while serving his prison sentence, was getting chemo, until he died . Trevor Williams, his son had come back to town to take care of his sick father, while he worked for Emily part-time. With Kelly's help Emily, Sage, Trevor, and the police discovered that Mr. Williams had murdered Kelly.
Thornton Daley was a food critic in Oak Hill, he had a reputation of always finding fault with a dish no matter how delicious it was. Well in this case, Thornton was no longer criticizing; he was grave crashing, literally. His dead body was found in an open grave, at the funeral of Benjamin Williams. There was a scream, a freshly dug open grave; start the investigation!
Goodness! Scott still cannot get through the barrier; not who killed Thornton Daley, but who didn't want to kill him and why are they blaming Trish from the Grainy Day Bakery; and Emily's a medium-in-training !?!
Read Book #5 to find out who killed food critic Thornton, will Trish still have a bakery business, if Emily can contact Scott's spirit, and how safe are Emily and Sage against the dark entity ?????
A cozy paranormal mystery for 13+, with no racy scenes and no foul language! Looking forward to Book #6!
Emily is caught up in another investigation when she's (a) present when a body is discovered and (b) her friend's delicious biscuits appear to the weapon of choice. Since she can't believe Trish would do someone in with her biscuits (because they're REALLY good biscuits!), she's determined to figure out who did the deed.
Okay, okay, Emily also doesn't believe Trish could have killed someone because Trish doesn't have it in her to off someone. Probably. Anyway. Emily's on the case which means the bad guy is NOT going to get away with it.
While she's searching for clues and exploring her expanding mediumship talents, Emily is also trying to figure out how to help her late husband cross the barrier surrounding Oak Hill. Seeing as how she only knows there IS a barrier, not why it was put there or how to to work around it, this is a daunting task that doesn't seem to be making much progress. Still, she's determined to do whatever she can to help her husband's spirit.
Again, a fun mystery with some entertaining sleuthing. *thumbs up*
Thank you to Beth Dolgner for the Audio copy of Breakfast Included
Breakfast Included is book 5 in the bed and breakfast cozy mystery. Though it's part of a 6 book series I would say each book could be read or listened to as a standalone. There is an underlying storyline throughout but I don't believe it would distract or cause confusion.
I loved this cozy mystery of the murder caused by a cookie. It was fun to listen to and I like how the mysteries are featuring away from the bed and breakfast and introuducing new places around the town.
I love all the characters, though police officer Danny in this book was a bit ott and I'm left feeling there's an underlying issue with him and his feelings towards Emily - though that's just my thoughts.
I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of this murder and I love how everyone seems to benefit from a murder in town 😂
I can't wait to see what happens in the last book and whether Emily gets to communicate with Scott or not.
Starting off you have a funeral with a dead body being found in an open grave. Turns out it belongs to a major food critic who basically never had anything good to say about where he ate which earned him a lot of enemies.
It also results in the ghost of the murdered guy haunting the bakery which he thinks is responsible for his dying. Emily and Sage have a whole lot of work to do trying to calm the ghost down and figure out just who murdered him.
The part where they try to communicate with the ghost (who never actually appears) is well done as they try to logic out what they can do with a ghost who can move things but that's it.
There's also good library research done to track down the negative reviews and see if any of those would lead to a suspect.
There's also what almost seems like a convention of ghosts for some reason.
Beth Dolgner always delivers a great story and this is no exception. When Emily attends the funeral of Trevor's father she does not expect to discover another body . A thoroughly enjoyable cozy mystery with an unloved victim who is no more pleasant as a ghost, .Lots of suspects included Emily and her baker friend. The plot twists and turns and builds to a great climax and with a interesting development in the ongoing Scott storyline at the end which I hope will follow on in the next book. The writing is excellent with good dialogue and entertaining situations. Patricia Shade once again does a great narration with an excellent range of characters. Love this series. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author and am leaving a honest voluntary review.
This book is mysterious, tense and a little spooky. I felt like there wasn’t as much emphasis on ghosts being involved this time - they were still involved but arguably less so than in previous novels in the series. I really enjoyed the blossoming romance between Emily and Danny and I look forward to seeing how this develops. This book carried a sense of things bigger yet to come by dropping hints throughout such as the increase in travelling ghosts and Sage’s growing exhaustion. I hope to see more of Trevor in the next book because he is such a fun character who provides those moments of comic relief. Overall, I am really enjoying how the world of Oak Hill is deepening as the series progresses and each novel adds something special to the development.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I have to say this is become one of my favorite new series. It probably has been around for a few years, but I only started reading it last year. Emily is still trying to help her husband and his ghost is becoming a little bit more clearer in this book. This time this horrible newspaper food critic is found dead. The owner of Grainy Day bakery is suspect due to the critic being poisoned. Emily isn’t going to be involved but this is her friend. I will say the killer wasn’t surprising, but I do like how things are progressing in the supernatural world and I am very concerned about Sage. I really hope we end up finding out why the go seem to be more lively in a sense and does this have to do with the bad spirit?
3.5 stars. BREAKFAST INCLUDED was another solid installment in Emily’s story as an innkeeper who attracts ghosts and helps to solve their murders. I found the pacing to be better than prior installments, too.
One minor irritation I’ve had throughout the series is Emily’s choice of breakfast for her guests. At every B&B I’ve visited, pastries are an accompaniment, but aren’t the main course for breakfast. But at Eternal Rest B&B, pastries and other baked goods from the local bakery are the ONLY things that Emily serves for breakfast. The author actually explains the reason for serving a continental breakfast about a third of the way through this book.
I enjoyed book 5 in the "Eternal Rest Bed And Breakfast Paranormal Cozy Mysteries" series. In this book, Emily's friend Trish has been accused of murder. Emily, along with her medium friend Sage, must use their psychic talents in order to solve the crime and clear Trish's name. I like that the author was adept at leaving clues throughout the story, so that the reader can figure out who the culprit was. I find the characters to be admirable and relatable. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Patricia Shade's narration was delightful. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left this review.
I’m love this cozy paranormal mystery series. It’s so such a small town and everybody knows everyone and the gossip mill goes wild when someone new is in town. The new murder mystery seems to be pointing at Emily and Eternal Rest Bed and Breakfast. I always love seeing Sage, but I was happy to continue seeing more of Trevor and Reed as well. This one had me on the edge of my seat as Emily kept investigating and I was surprised to see who the murderer is! I can’t wait to see what happens with the storyline of Emily’s late husband. Slowly but surely we will get there. The narrator, Patricia Shade did a wonderful performance. I enjoyed listening to the very end. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
Book 5 was another fun adventure. But be warned, there is a baker who makes delicious biscuits. I am absolutely craving a biscuit right now!
In this story the victim is a mean-spirited food critic who has spent many years writing nasty reviews about the food served in local restaurants. Someone finally served him a lethal meal. That someone decides to blame several locals and finally puts the blame on Emily.
This story is a bit of a roller coaster…more action adventure than mood dark spirit stuff. A good old fashioned Murder mystery with very few ghosts involved in the murder investigation. RECOMMEND.
A food critic that has angered so many people is found dead in an open grave when they are burying Trevor’s father. The suspect list is long and every time they think of a motive the list gets longer and wider! Luckily his ghost is hanging around to help solve his murder. Emily is starting to have more and more powers and now she needs to learn how to use them. It seems they are getting closer to figuring out why Scott can’t come home. This had an interesting twist and luckily the law enforcement team takes Emily and Sage’s abilities to heart and provide back up when needed. I am enjoying getting to know the folks of the town! Still very much enjoying this series!
Love love this series. It’s book 5 in this cozy mystery series. The author Beth Dolger does it again. The story continues and grows with twists and turns on every page. Emily is in for shock , something unexpected happens to her Erternal B&B and it throws Emily , her friends and her live hood under question by the authorities . It’s becof a murder and will Emily ghosts help find the murderer
Patricia Shade performance was fantastic in this one like the ones before this one
I really enjoyed book five, and it's a great addition to this series. It's great to finally see some romantic sparks beginning to ignite, too! This book's mystery took me a little longer to figure out, which I really liked. I also liked how it involved a lot more Oak Hill characters. In addition, the overall series mystery is just continuing to ramp ump in suspense, so much so that I'm reading on average two books a day so that I can get to the end to find out what happens! Okay, with that said, I'm off to start book six!
I love this series of books. They're well written, funny, and touch on the importance of friendship and being there for those who need you. The friendships in these books make me miss all of my girlfriends I grew up with and came of age with. Nothing will ever replace those people or memories.
I read this one in a day because I needed to find out about the influx of ghosts. This book did not disappoint.
This is a fast moving story. A food critic is murdered an d Emily's friend Trish is being targeted with the murder. Emily will not standby and let it happen. Then someone tries to implicate Emily to make her a suspect. Twists and turns with delicious little hints throughout.
The murders and mysteries just keep getting better and harder to figure out! I can’t wait to find out why so many ghosts are coming into town too. It’s such a strange thing for spirits to do, especially if it’s not a place they’re associated with in life. Things are just getting more interesting!
Yet again Beth has not disappointed us, the story keeps you hooked to carry on reading. The characters are well rounded and you can identify with them or know somebody like them. I can't wait for the next book and hope there are alot more tales to come.
I was happy to discover I had missed this book in the series and could put more of Emily's story together. The fact that she has talking ghosts, lives next to a cemetery and is always solving murder mysteries make this series fun and interesting. Recommended Clean ghostly stories.
Emily and friends just cant stay out the way but just what is happening with Oakhill and the ghosts?! Certianly building a great backdrop with these books and im eager for more. Each story flows nicely to the next. Worth the read.
This one had Emily suspected for murdering the man! You will have to read it yourself to see if she did or not! New guest at the B&B. that aren’t ghost hunters! But lots of adventures! These only get better and better M
Even though you “know” Emily is going to solve the puzzle, there are enough twists to keep you guessing the who done it question. Looking forward to the next. Well done !
I have so enjoyed reading about the residents and visitors to Oak Hill Georgia! I can't wait to read about the next murder and see what new ghost they meet in the next book.
I stumbled upon this series and man am I glad I did! This whole series so far has been fun, interesting and suspenseful with great character development and storylines. I hope these keep coming, I don’t want this series to end!!
Quick easy read. Consistently fun with solid primary and secondary characters. A decent mystery with some twisty logic getting to the actual murderer. No romance in this series (at least not yet) so don't go in looking for that.
Emily is a widow who runs a haunted bed and Breakfast. At a funeral of a friend's father, and other body is found in an opened grave. When the ghost of the deceased starts to haunt her friend's bakery, Emily starts to investigate.
The biggest food reviewer came into town and has given bad reviews for a lot of people. But soon after he died, they found out it was from a biscuit, and the baker is being accused.
