Seriously, this is about as close to Silver Age storytelling as you're going to find in modern comics. and it was GLORIOUS.

I fell a little behind on this series, but pretty fun, if slight overstuffed issue to kick off this series that ended up having some truly stunning art by Dan Mora. It’s nice to see the Doom Patrol pop up too saying how much I adore their show on HBO Max. Excited to get into the rest of this first arc.

Mark Waid is back!

This is the book Mark Waid was born to write. No on, and I mean no one, has a better grasp on the chapter of Superman. Having him write a new team-up book with the classic name of World's Finest is all I need in a comic. This first issue was stellar.

That was jam packed. Perhaps a bit too much so. Great concept for what happens to Superman. As always, love Mora's art.

OHH BOY! This was SO good!

I was mildly interested in reading this series but after finding out the secondary cast would include the Doom Patrol (my beloved) I had to pick up this up as soon as I could. And I'm so happy I did (and so happy I bought them physically instead of opting for a digital read per usual). The story was so much fun, and the cast of characters is delightful. From the Doom Patrol to Lois and Jimmy to Poison Ivy popping in, it was a blast.

But, honestly the best thing in this is the art. It is absolutely stunning. It is so crisp and clean, and every panel is a pleasure to look at. The coloring is gorgeous, and they did some cool work with paneling, which is always fun to see. I'm officially obsessed with this book.

The first readable story in a while. Their own titles are ridiculously inaccessible currently. The cancellation of the prior multiverse hopping team up series was disappointing but it’s Mark Waid. He can do no wrong. He’s an absolute genius. This pulls all the silver age Superfriends magic and brings it right up to date. This is definitely going to stay on my list. An absolute must read

Epic! Loved it! 'Nuff said.

Bonus, Doom Patrol inclusion made it even better. Love both my slapping covers too! Very happy about this new series and all its unbridled potential. That's it.

I’ll admit I did read Worlds Finest back in my misspent youth. I don’t remember much about it though. But I’ve been keeping my eye on this one simply because the covers are beautiful. I even bought the one with the Robin cover on it. I thought I’d check it out.

Mark Waid’s name doesn’t hurt either.

”The Devil Nezha Chapter One” starts in Metropolis in the not too distant past.

Poison Ivy starts growing giant plants smashing through the building, but Batman and Robin (now with tights!) are there to stop her.

Superman shows up as well, but then Metallo also shows up. The plants and Metallo attack. While Metallo throws Robin over a building he tries to inject Superman with Red Kryptonite.

In Gotham years before the above attack the Penguin has made a deal with the Anti-Universe of Quard warriors for lightning weapons. He boasts while holding Robin (wearing boxers instead of briefs) hostage. Superman helps out here.

The art is really good here. Dan Mora & Tamra Bonvillain. Reminds me somewhat of Kubert.

Back to Superman screaming from his Red Kryptonite injection.

Batman has called in the Doom Patrol to help. Superman is having hallucinations, fighting Zod who is not there. He’s going berserk and there’s no one there who can stop him.

That was a great start! An idea we’ve never really seen before. Sure Superman has been taken over a few times - but not quite like this! Ingenious stuff here!

I appreciate the deep cuts here too! Penguin and Qward?!

5 stars. Great start!

I've heard a lot of good things about this series. Mostly about the artist, Dan Mora, and the writer, Mark Waid.

It was mostly correct.

Dan Mora is the new DC secret weapon. His ability to draw great depictions of its two biggest characters and more, can't be understated.

Mark Waid is as good as ever. His encyclopedic knowledge of DC lore comes in handy for this series, something only he could do really well. Waid managed to pencil in an appearance of the classic iteration of the Doom Patrol, and I'm happy he did because I wanted to see Mora draw DC's most uncanny team.

This is a really good first issue. The only thing that I heard wrong was that each issue was basically a standalone story. Not true, there is an overarching plot with shadowy figures involved. This is still built for the trade. Other than that, I have no real complaints.

I think the title is referring to the creative team! Am I the first person to make that joke?

Marking this review for the whole volume, it's exactly what you would want out of something like this: Batman and Superman teaming up at some nebulous point in the past and having a fun adventure with some surprising cameos. Canon? Don't worry about it. Banter? Plenty that shows off the best parts of both characters. Punches? At least one good one every issue. New costume/toy design? Dan Mora's specialty. It's only slightly dissapointing when compared to DC's recent output of quality super hero books that are trying some new and different things for modern times. But who cares?! Batman! Superman! All the stars are here!

I kept hearing from various online channels and fans that this series was great and I found the last issue #1 of it at a comic shop in Milwaukee so I took a swing and I was so glad I did. Firmly rooted in a Silver Age type of feel with some 70's Bronze age flavor, this book delivers. Waid's writing and handling of Superman, Batman and Robin is spot on and Mora's art captured each hero and supporting cast member and villain perfectly. An appearance by the classic Doom Patrol lineup happens and to me the story felt like it flowed and longer to read than the average 2022 comic book.
Just glad I gave it a try to now know what all the hubbub is about.

Okay, so the "I always have your back" thing just gets me. The interior art is gorgeous, as always. Have to love Dan Mora's work. Fantastic as always.

And Mark Waid is probably one of my favorite writers, always. The flashback with Penguin was excellent, the whole Red Kryptonite take -I am sure this is more comic accurate but I'm used to Red K making Superman a jerk not making him mutate so that for ME is new but fun.

Robin taking out Metallo? Hello. Yes thank you. This was a fun read and I look forward to the rest of the series. I definitely hit the subscribe button.

The initial back and forth non-linear beginning threw me off, at first. Made me think we were in the past for the story and then there was a flashback, and then we're in the present, which quickly recapped the initial pages. But! Throughout that jumble was Dan Mora's art and Bonvillain's colors!! 🖤 And the story begins to take shape and takes off. Looking forward to the next issue, but I am still confused about where we are in continuity. Does Lois know who Superman is? Does the world? I'd guess not given Batman's speech. 🤔

This was absolutely phenomenal!! I’m freaking out right now omg I cant believe how good this is I have so much to say!!! The art is without a doubt some of the best art I’ve seen in comics to date, I’m blown away by how amazing every single character looks in this style! The writing is fantastic as well and the DOOM PATROL?? I lost my mind when they showed up what a cool crossover idea!! I’m so hyped for this series I can not WAIT to read more!

It kinda feels like cheating by adding this to my read books, but if it's on Goodreads then it counts.

I only recently got into the magical world of DC after my daughter became a DC fan and wow what a comic. Quite a few big hitters show up and it ends on a cliffhanger, time to read #2.

I've been waiting a long time to dedicate myself fully to this series, and all I can say is that Dan Mora is now the greatest comic book artist. I get why DC adores him so much. Nobody draws as well as he does. His style is so unique. Such a start, I hope he draws more Doom Patrol.

Exciting volume that introduces a Batman with the B89 symbol. Doom Patrol shows up and Poison Ivy delivers some deadly blows.
