Twisted is a stand-alone HEA demon shifter romance
Most books have a coherent beginning, middle, and end and story in between to make the transition between those things less jarring and give it a natural flow... this book did not have any of those things. I felt like a lot of the plot didn't make sense and it felt like there were rather large parts that were missing that would have made this an enjoyable read. The character development needs work and I felt like the two main characters didn't have any chemistry. I understand this takes place between books but this does not hold up as a cohesive read
📖 **My Thoughts** I got this book free from a Stuff You Kindle event and I'm glad, because I would be annoyed if I'd paid for this. It's juvenile and just bad all around. Abused FMC somehow has a witch best friend who helps her summon a demon, and she has a perfect memory but somehow manages to fuck up the spell? A lot of his begs belief or doesn't make sense and just registers as a mary sue fantasy. The MMC is generic, the "bad guys" are generic, and I really struggled to find anything interesting or novel about this book....which would be fine if it was well-written or had a decent plot/love story progression. But it really doesn't. 10/10 would not recommend.
⚠️ **Triggers** - Domestic abuse - Mentioned SA - Kidnapping
🌶️ **Spice** Honestly can't even remember the spice in this. It was so boring. How does someone make sex with an incubus boring? When he's a jersey shore reject with timid abuse victim who shames herself for wanting sex. The whole thing's a mess.
I got this free with the stuff your kindle, and after this I'm going to delete the whole frigging bunch. Every single book I got was either seriously badly written or had a beaten down FMC. No wonder they were free, and this was no different!! Abused women do not make for a good story and to see it over and over makes you wonder about the writers. Do yourself a favor and read Moon's " Bad Alpha" about a kick butt FMC and learn a little.
I enjoyed this story. Julia is in a physically and mentally abusive relationship and has the mindset of one (so fair warnings if this is a trigger for anyone). One day she needed an envelope and goes into her boyfriend Desmond's office to look for one even though she was warned never to go in there. In the midst of her search, she sees documents and information she shouldn't have and only just manages to close the drawer before he comes in in a rage.
Later when she meets her friend Bailey for dinner, Bailey could tell she had new bruises and was convinced her boyfriend would one day kill her. Bailey is a witch and gives Julia a spell that would summon The Demon Lord to protect her if she says the incantation when she needs his help. The Demon Lord owes Bailey and would come immediately. Julia is doubtful because she still loves her boyfriend in spite of his "anger issues," but takes the paper.
Julia's boyfriend is a blood-servant for his boss, a powerful vampire, who was even more twisted and dangerous than Desmond. He knows what she saw in the desk and made sure she knew it. The next morning and alone, Julia knew she was trapped. She could never escape them, and seeing no other options, she decides to summon The Demon Lord.
I enjoyed this story. Great world building. The story was well written, well paced, and suspenseful. 5 stars.
The story was OK, but the writing was weird. There were a lot of sentences that made little to no sense. I ended up ignoring that or I wouldn’t have been able to finish it. Needs heavy editing. The author went out of her way to shove into the reader’s face how this incubus wasn’t a r*pist, because he only fed on women who were willing. How can someone give their consent if they’re asleep when he feeds? Just because he doesn’t PHYSICALLY touch them doesn’t mean he’s not abusing them, since he’s still using his power to arouse the “willing” women. He says at the end that they only feed on something that “is naturally there”. If so, why not go to a bordello? or a BDSM club? or a porn set? Now THAT would have been feeding on willing people. But how they feed or what they actually feed on is not explained very well, so they do come out as sexual predators (I mean, incubi are DEMONS, I would expect them to be at least a little evil, right?), even though the author would want the reader to believe otherwise. The villains are not very villanous, are gone for most of the book, and when they return they're killed within two pages, sot there's no real sense of danger.
Julia needed an envelope to send a birthday card to her cousin. So despite being told to never go into Desmond’s office, she just wanted to see if she could find one quickly. Unfortunately, she found something she should not have seen and has put herself into danger.
Julia’s friend, Bailey, is a witch who is very concerned about Julia’s safety around her abusive boyfriend who beats her regularly. She is justifiably concerned that Desmond could one day kill Julia when he goes into his rages and pounds mercilessly on her. So Bailey gives Julia a spell to call forth The Demon Lord to protect her if she is in severe danger. But when that situation actually arises, she messes up and ends up binding herself with the wrong demon. Instead of Osmodos, she bound Osmodeus (“Os”). Luckily she didn’t know she could now ask him to do things he would not normally do. She could make him her slave if she knew. How will she get out of the Underworld? How will Os get released from the spell? And how can Julia stay safe from Desmond’s evil cronies?
I had been anticipating this short book for such a long time and I finally decided to read it. I got it for free a long while ago.
It was such a waste of time to be honest. Despite it being a terribly written story I wanted to know where it would lead so I finished it even though I should have dumped it.
The reader gets two POVs from the opposite love interests, but half the time I had trouble telling them apart. Julia and Os, along with everyone else was basically written as the same person too.
There were seemly scary and terrible bad guys, that were the villains of the story, but who are we kidding?? They were defeated with such ease that all the build up made no sense to even have mentioned it. Julia and Os also had ZERO chemistry together. Like how are they in such love if they know NOTHING about each other?? At one point Julia even says this and at the end she still decided to be with him after only 6 months?! Be freaking for real!!
Over all this story gets 2/5 stars. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.
I wanted to dnf this book. I chose not to only because it is so short. If I were to rate this based simply on vibes like I have before, I might have given it 2 stars. It started well enough, but I was soon really bored with the main female character. I didn't get the connection between Julia and her incubus, and even though I liked that at the end of the book they say they dated for a while, in not showing any of that, we don't get to see that they have a relationship that is any deeper than the sexual relationship we see developed. I don't think that making this book longer would have made it better. I don't care about any of the other characters in the book enough to read another book in this series. It doesn't read like a well-plotted book, but more like a series of events. There was also a section where Julia was suspicious of one of the other characters, and that suspicion led exactly nowhere.
Book: Twisted: A Paranormal Romance with Claws! (Shifter Days, Vampire Nights & Demons in between Book 4) Author: N Gray My Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed by: Tammy - Book Nook Nuts
REVIEW When you are treated like crap, feel crappy about yourself, and your man insists on giving you to a monster what do you do? Well, Julia goes straight to the devil himself for help... Why not?
Julia knows vampires are real so why does she have a hard time believing what other beings might be out there? It will take a friend, a spell, and two brothers who aren't human to get her out of the mess she is in... Can she also learn to realize that not all demons are dogs?
When Julia needs help with her abusive boyfriend, her witch friend helps her. But Julia summons the wrong demon. Or does she? Os & Julia's story is part of the Bella Thorne universe by N Gray, but can be read as a stand alone. Julia doesn't know what she gets herself into when she summons a demon for help and ends up with a mispronounced name. A story with claws, vampires, rivalries, revenge, finding your mate, helpful demons. This is another story with very interesting and well thought out characters, returning characters and more intriguing details to the world of the Bella Thorne universe, if you want to find out more... And if you need a friendly demon to help you with your troubles, you'll might end up with a mate instead...
This is hands down one of the worst books I’ve ever read. There were major gaps in the storyline where characters jumped from one plot point to another with no explanation, leaving me confused as to what was happening. The author uses lots of incomplete or grammatically incorrect sentences which are distracting and there is no character development, if you could even call them characters at all. They’re never really explored. I got this for free on kindle, I would hate to have paid any money for it.
I loved the story line. Iris is in an abusive relationship. (trigger warning) Her best friend, being a witch, wants to help. I love the twists. The story to me is original. I read a lot and I haven't come across a story quite like this one. Os and his brother are truly unique demons. Quick and enjoyable book. But please take note of the authors warning about triggers. Sometimes I like my stories dark and this one is. This story is one that I will read again .
Honestly, this should have been a DNF but it was so short I skimmed through the last half of it and got the gist.
The premise was pretty good, and I think it would have been a great story but unfortunately this fell flat. It was very rushed and if it was meant to be a novella then there should have been only 1 twist. Not the 3 there were. Plus the last two chapters were just unnecessary and didn't add anything to the story.
Another exciting read by N.Gray. I loved the characters in this book, not all demons are the same… A great short story with a HEA… But also with a unexpected twists throughout their dramas… Demons, witch and human! What an unlikely mix … A really great short read….
I love a paranormal romance with smut! And this was perfect! I loved reading the FMC becoming strong and the interaction with os was just so good I couldn't put the book down.
Alot happened and I wish it was more dragged out and there was a little more to the plot because I was sad when it was over.
The fourth book in the Shifter Days, Vampire Nights & Demons in between series. Os and Julia's story has drama, some danger, suspense, mystery, villains, and romance. A well written paranormal romance story that kept me turning pages. I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily reveiwing.
Fun and a little twisted. It is amusing how Julia messes up the names, but also not surprised. There is some blood, guts ,and gore along with some smexy scenes. It is sweet how Os and his brother are so very protective.
Twisted was a very quick read that I kind of wished was developed a bit more. Os is a demon lord that Julia accidentally conjures and from there the story moves very fast. They run into some trouble, fall in love, and get their HEA.
I actually really liked this book. Only reason I rated low is because it has a lot of potential however due to the length of the book, this came at the cost of character development and story building. I liked the concept and will be trying to find books that are similar.
There was a bit of angst but there was whimsy, too. I did not expect that Os would fall in love as I was almost afraid Seth might fall in love. Thank goodness I was wrong!
Update: I just discovered I read this out of order so that would probably explain 90% of my confusion. It is book 4 in the series. However on KU it is listed as “Book 1 of 11” so it was misleading.
This was…. Pages added to my reading goal. I did not enjoy the FMC, honestly kept getting the twins confused, didn’t understand the world building one bit. Is Seth their step dad? Still don’t get the Desmond/Bill affair, I stayed for the angst/spice and even that left a lot to be desired. Happy reading..
I went into this book blind since I purchased during stuff your kindle day. I think that’s why I actually liked it, I enjoyed the plot I do wish that Bills death was prolonged, it just seemed too easy. But I liked the characters, the banter was cute, and it was the perfect amount of spicy.
I DNF this book at 72% it had a strong start, but I had really struggled towards the 60% mark. I was waiting for something else to happen and felt that there was a lot of “fluff” that didn’t belong. I was hopeful for this book and I’m disappointed it’s been a let down.
Though I was glad to see a trigger warning at the beginning. So many books don’t include this when it is necessary, especially when delving into triggering subjects.
