When Darla's friend Sammy who ran the ice cream truck was suspected of murdering his wealthy aunt as her sole beneficiary, Darla couldn't let poor Sammy rot in jail, so she sleuthed in whatever time she could get. I was glad she at least took Sarah her police officer friend with her when she ended up confronting the killer. It always makes me feel better when a sleuth's got some reinforcements with them, lol. As always, India's antics and her pet alligator made for some good comic relief.
I hadn't guessed whodunit, and it was fun to see Darla eliminate suspects and settle on who it really was. Can't wait to borrow the next in KU!
Page 99 quote by the killer - “My grandfather is going to be next.”
I haven’t written a review on the last several books I’ve read, but wanted to “check in”. (Not like anyone is paying attention to my previous 70-or-so reviews! But anyway, the killer in this book was cray! They were completely peanut butter and jealous, ya’all! I suspected this from the beginning and this time I was right. A few of these books had me question who the real killer was.
Darla Jones is the main character and owns two food trucks - a dessert and coffee one and a more recent fish and chips one (she bought it from the previous owner for a great deal after the owner had been found to be guilty in a murder. I really liked him and wish he’d stayed as an active character! He was feisty!)
Darla is not only an amazing baker and chef, along with her 3 college attending workers, she is also extremely nosy…annoyingly so, at times. However, she is also an amateur detective/sleuth who has helped solve murders in the previous 5 books of this series.
In this book she is voluntarily helping her co-food truck owner, Sammy be proved innocent in the murder of his Aunt Irene. Motive - Sammy stands to inherit over a million dollars from his aunt as well as numerous assets upon her death. But Darla believes in Sammy’s innocence and will do all she can to prove he doesn’t belong behind bars. She even confronts a person she believes may be the real killer. Luckily she has Officer Sarah with her when “interrogation” begins in the suspects home. Office Sarah often bends the rules to allow Darla behind-the-scenes investigating.
This read turned out quite sad because I really liked Aunt Irene and also because the killer’s motive. But Darla and Sarah uncover the truth so that Sammy can be set free. It is also sad because of the manipulation to a small child of 8 by a pre-teen. That’s life damage, yo.
I’m also holding out for Darla and Caleb to finally confess their romantic feelings toward one another. The next (7th) book in this series will not be released for awhile, so I don’t know if feelings will be involved as far as romance, but I hope they are!
Next book in this series that will be released April 5, 2022 is “Ice Cream and Investigations (Darla’s Delectables Food Truck Cozy Mystery Book7)”.
Since I cannot read the next book yet, I am going to read another series by this same author, Susan Harper. I chose the Country Girl in the Big City Cozy Mystery series. Book 1 of the12 book series is “Murder in the City”. The good news for me and other readers is that all 12 books of this series are available for reading now!
3 1/2 stars This book picks up where the other leaves off at. But don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous books. The author writes enough back story to fill you in and not leave you hanging wondering what’s going on. But once you read thus book you’ll want to find all the previous books and get to know the main characters and the town people they are a bunch of fun and crazy characters you soon like to join! These are clean books that don’t have any sexual references or language so that I can honestly recommend to my preteen reading friends and anyone wanting a good read!
I have loved all of Susan Harper series this one really focused on Sammy the ice cream seller and how he was blamed for an accident that happen when he was a child Darla and Officer Sarah Got the truth out of his cousin who had actually committed the accident crime love the characters thus is a very fun read

Darla is catering the grand opening of a resort on the island. It is a three day event and the first day goes great. The second day ends with a murder of the aunt of the resort owner. Lots of twists and turns with a surprise ending. A fun read.
When fellow truck vendor is on the hot seat, his good friend Darla comes to his aid. This is yet another brilliant cozy mystery that has Darla delving into her friends past, uncovering the historical true assailant and thecurrent murderer.
Darla was all geared up to cater for the opening of the new resort in town. She wasn't ready for there to be a murder and for one of her fellow food truck operator to be the prime suspect!
This book is cute, campy and delightful. It can be read with no prior knowledge of the rest of the series. The mystery is engaging and I was quite pleased to be correct in guessing the culprit.
I loved this adorable story and I highly recommend checking it out and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
